    Main hive consistency

As a former server admin both main and private hive myself...I can say, with a certain level of personal experience that I think for the game to stay valid, it simply cannot cater to the demands for custom settings. Custom setting servers should be allowed but they should only be allowed on private hive scenarios. They should not share the main hive at all in any form. Everyone has the right to enjoy DayZ as they want to play it amongst a like minded server community. But servers where the sun never went down and people spawned on the beach with custom load outs took almost as much away from the DayZ mod experience as the hacking problems the mod had did. Main hive should remain completely unadulterated, it should have a set of easy to understand parameters and none of them should change ever. Servers should not adhere to local server timezones either but should be run on a timezone heartbeat from the main hive itself. A realistic experience requires a realistic day and night cycle, not a system in of which if I don't like how dark it is I just have to switch servers til I find one running a different GMT setting. A realistic experience would demand I use a damn light if its too dark and assume the risks that come along with that. And to everyone that says "no one plays on night time servers" that only happens because server admins mess with their configs and there are options for playing on servers where its sunny out at 3 in the damn morning server time. If that wasn't an option...people would play at night because it would be a difference between playing and not playing at all.
  2. Most of Chernarus..currently, is highly underutilized. Here are the reasons for that. Servers have a 40 player limit Theres no need to do anything but work between Zelengorosk and Chernogorosk with a 40 player limit...that area alone has everything a player needs...including other players to shoot at/be shot at by. Until the stand alone's real survival options get implemented, this will likely to continue to be the case and the simple facts are is...most people don't want to walk 7 kilometers just to get to the same stuff they can get less than one kilometer away. Literally I'd say probably at least 9 of 10 people you see at the NWAF...like...ever, are server hoppers and thats it, cause theres almost no reason to walk that far north, everything you could find there you can find anywhere in the 7 kilometers to the south of it down to the coast.

Blood types, Blood bags and Transfusions

Uh Saline doesn't actually restore lost blood, it restores volemic loss, which is a temporary solution to keeping volemic pressure up and dealing with shock. Shock does not currently appear to be fully integrated in any kind of actual debilitating way...at least not realistically, you have to be REALLY near to dead to start passing out from exertion for example. Even if a saline bag does deal with the immediate problems of vision impairment, its still not replacing the actual blood volume lost. So numerically it kinda looks like this. Healthy = 12000 Wounded = 3000 Wounded/Saline = 3000/9000 (only 3000 of that counts in regards to further injury) Wounded/Transfusion = back to 12000 Thats my pseudo logical understanding of how that actually works. Edit: Wait hold on....transfusions are only giving 1000 blood back? That can't be right at all. Nobody is going to have the time to collect and use 6+ blood bags for themselves much less anyone else...its just not anywhere near feasible and 1000 blood is the difference between nothing and nothing if you're down around 1000 blood as it is. Sorry about that my last understanding was that transfusions actually replaced all lost blood volume, not literally a liter of it. Okay Rocket....realistic medical system too realistic now. Dial it back a little there champ.

Blood types, Blood bags and Transfusions

I'd much rather survive. But I'm also not good with games that expect me to be playing with a friend at all times. I tend to play on my own a lot because my clans not committing to the standalone in alpha and my wife and I can't play together due to the wonderful WRT54G router problem BIS software always has...so I'm kinda stuck on my own. As much as I'd rather survive, I'm just as likely to die approaching someone I don't know to give me a saline drip as I'd be to shoot at them first simply to avoid the potential of them killing me because I've let them know I'm injured and easy to take down for my stuff. I do keep medical supplies on hand, and I do my best to survive at all times, but what I'm saying is that any system of survival that doesn't give a single individual much of an option other than to die...or to probably die in the process of attempting not to die..is a system that is going to see more people opting to die rather than bother with it. Natural regeneration is not as cut and dried as the information out there on it makes out, so staying well hydrated and eating well doesn't really offer much of an acceptable alternative for those of us that don't come with another player in our back pocket to help us "survive" this survival simulation. And again, on the internet...and yes, even in the real world, if you tell somone you're weak and you need their help...its highly likely that they'll either ignore you and/or exploit that weakness to take advantage of you in some way...and in DayZ...its as simple as saying "Sure I'll help you" then clocking the poor bastard in the head with an axe when you see them switch their gun down from the ready position. As much as I'd like to join you in a fantasy world where this kind of thing isn't more common than people actually helping other people they don't know out....its just not a realistic vision at all.
  5. I think the assumption of civilian armament > military armament comes simply from a few logical conclusions. In a situation of societal collapse, most individuals surviving it will have more immediate access to civilian weaponry that they either own, and/or can liberate from various sources like other civilian houses and relatively common hunting supply sources.Military hardware, even if it is in abundance in certain regions of the world isn't always the easiest thing to get your hands on...unless you happen to be surviving the apocalypse somewhere in Sudan maybe and even then I'd say your chances of surviving crossing the road are much lower than your chances of finding a 40 year old AK-47 laying around that still has a functional magazine. In the terms of high end military hardware even if say an entire military base was devastated and had no defenses whatsoever, getting into the munitions buildings in these bases is not actually as feasible as one might assume from the DayZ standpoint of just walking into a barracks and finding guns on the floor....most military bases keep very tight track of their hardware and almost all of it is locked up behind some pretty thick walls and doors so the chances of the average civilian survivor actually getting to any of that stuff is not very likely.Suffice it to say...in an apocalypse...I'm betting on Wal-Mart before I'll bet on the National Guard Armory down the street from it. Just cause at least at Wal-Mart I can grab a crowbar that can snap the locks on the gun storage cabinets from a couple isles over..whereas at the Armory...I'd be lucky if I got into the munitions locker there even if I had a stick of dynamite.

Blood types, Blood bags and Transfusions

As useful as this information is, the unfortunate state of affairs is the medical system is simply too unwieldy to be "playable" in a game environment. Even in the real world we have to pay people to donate blood or get them to attend blood drives through various means of evoking charity out of individuals to ensure we have a ready supply of all known blood types to deal with volemic fluid loss in trauma patients and we also have to refresh that supply about every two weeks or so cause it doesn't stay usable forever. And even then the process of blood transfusion is a relatively complex procedure that not just any hack off the street can do. Now you take a system like this and move it into DayZ and you end up with a lot of relative confusion until people realize how absolutely useless it actually is. There is no ready supply of blood to be found anywhere. Theres no method of engendering donation other than at gunpoint and even then you're probably not going to get the right blood and....then what? At best you might be able to carry six blood bags of various types on hand but what if you need to administer immediate aid to someone and you don't already know their blood type? In the military we had a way to get around this kind of confusing situation...it was kinda important cause getting fluids into a patient in a field trauma situation might be critical to their survival, the saline bag is a fair nod towards dealing with immediate volemic loss, but again this does not in any way seem to directly address blood volume loss that can only be done by transfusion. And as stated in the military we didn't need to do a blood test...thats what dog tags were for. We could tell blood type right there at the scene and call in the transfusion type needed as we were moving the patient to medevac, this continues to stand today where I can literally get someones blood type from any number of federal and/or state ID's simply by looking at them and/or swiping their mag strip to get the patients critical medical data. But again....thats taking a patient somewhere where a ready supply of blood already is. There is none in this scenario..so we need donors, thus forcing a greater need for cooperation amongst players...at least on Planet Rocket where everything that makes logical sense never plays out in any other way than was envisioned in his head. This system drives people to not survive, because dying is easier than living....much much easier. And in fact its technically more fun killing as many people as you can before you die, than it is to try to survive having almost died. So in a word...as much as this system impresses me...it needs some work.

    Can openers LOL

Actually there are always axes on the piano of every version of that house in every town...its kinda like someone did that on purpose and its some kind of hidden reference to something.

Drinking wells need to be contaminated

This is correct but the high fructose corn syrup, in parts per million actually almost completely negates the fluid intake from it. Which is kinda crazy when you think about it. But its a lot of sugar to convert to metabolic glucose. The fluid requirements almost require the soda to have as much water as it has to sustain the HFCS being metabolized. I'm not a water nazi or anything, just saying, assuming that anything that can be drank can sustain a healthy fluid intake is also incorrect. You might as well say that you can stay hydrated drinking Anejo Tequila...I mean its made from blue agave nectar after all....it should be like totally hydrating right? Except its not cause again, alcohol requires fluid to metabolize to metabolic glucose. Same with everything. No matter how you come at it there is no life without water, theres just first world lack of having to be concerned about it.

Drinking wells need to be contaminated

And from a diagnostic standpoint you were also probably chronically dehydrated which is a common health condition for first worlders all over the place. Its not specifically dangerous to your health unless exacerbated by other existing conditions, as stated you make up for the intake deficiet in other ways, the issue being is a can of preserved beans or spaghetti or even tuna does not have the required fluid content to sustain hard living conditions and heavy physical activity for a long term without seriously devasting physical affects. There is a reason why the extreme climates of our world are not generally places where people are just allowed to go without the proper preparation and its because most people wouldn't survive in them for a day based only on their dietary habits alone.

And when does that happen specifically? Can you scan your day planner for today so I'll know when you're going to shut the fuck up?

Cause a dead cow was dropped into it as a joke by some fratboys from Cornell. I mean why else?

Drinking wells need to be contaminated

Thats not medically accurate at all. A cucumber is what we'd call a very wet food its not even a "moist food" its full of liquids. Problem being is those liquids are consumed by the bodies metabolic processes while converting the vegetable fiber intake into glucose. Now lets take moist foods and or foods with little to no moisture content and its simply exponential from there. Simple facts are is you need about 4 times more water than you need solid intake, simply to maintain the solid intake and proper metabolism of it. Now granted not many people IRL actually do this but we also generally in the first world at least, don't live in situations of such extremity that it ever becomes a health hazardous issue. We make up for our intake deficiets at various points in a day or week, we're never in a position of extremely difficult to balance metabolic demands in this day and age for most of us that have the time to get on the internet and talk about whats important to surivival in a game. There are millions of people that will tell you right now that a bowl of moist rice isn't going to keep them going nor did it keep their child from dying of dehydration and malnutrition. So..yeah...lets not make blanket statements in regards to whats "fine".

    Let's up the Fear Factor

Hah this....definitely. I remember this stuff. We used to have to get our water from a fresh water well out away from the cabin where we lived because our ground water had sea water in it due to our proximity to the Straits of Juan De Fuca. Going out there at night with a flashlight used to freak me the hell out cause of all the shit I'd catch looking back at me sometimes.' Light reflections off eyes in the brush would be good but to have to render that many wild animals at a time might be a problem...though rabbits are apparently being rendered client side right now so...perhaps its a possibility cause client sided stuff doesn't put a huge load on the server.

Oh man you got me there. Totally. I don't know how to come back from that one. Except to say....hello Mr. Hospital Runner Person, 1999 called and wants its cutting edge erectile dysfunction aid back. I mean seriously you run a hospital and you can't come up with something a little more 21st century as a humorous ancedotal reference image? Here I have something for you.

    Let's up the Fear Factor

True enough but most people haven't lived in that kind of outdoors. I haven't been much further north than Anchorage but I was raised in the Olympic Mountains in WA myself and spent a lot of time out in the forest growing up and I still get out there on occasion. Nothings more unnerving than a boar in a dark camp though I'd say, they sound a lot heavier than they look.

Well speaking of personality disorders...I thought I might point out that its rather convenient that the guy that I was "bitching" at disappeared and some account registered with a total of 4 posts, all coming at me is spending its time defending said individual and doing so by making wild claims of sexual and financial competence as some kind of personal qualification of superiority. Actually I don't think I have to point anything else out do I? I shouldn't have to...not if you're as smart and awesome as you seem to think you are. Looks like you took the blue pill.

Your experience in the north / east cost ?

North and East definitely need more reasons for going that direction right now. I spend an inordinate amount of time never feeling like I'm being watched at all which is not a good feeling in reference to a DayZ game. There are a few hidden gems up there but nothing on the level of Balota to NWAF definitely. Course I haven't been killed yet either but...I'm also usually pretty hard to spot if my spider senses are tingling. And Berezino has been my home in Chernarus for several years now, I'm probably somewhere around there at any given time. Can't really say why, I just like a nice coastal town.

Little far south for polar bears. Kodiaks maybe. Browns definitely. Also bears don't tend to be predators on that level unless driven by other extremities but for a games sake I definitely like that idea a lot more than zombies doing the booga-booga-booga routine cause seriously its just not scary any more. Random hostile encounters with dangerous wildlife though? Yeah that might be something new and interesting and cause me to shart myself at least the first time it happened to me.

Are you still talking? You're supposed to be getting a blowjob right about now by your own schedule there...where I come from down here in the real world those can take awhile...yanno, unless you're kinda quick at the trigger or something which I can be an issue for guys with narcissistic personality disorder....or so I've read, I'm sure one of the doctors that kisses your ass on a daily basis can help you with that though.

    Let's up the Fear Factor

This game needs them jumpscares so the Pewdiepies will play it. Yes precious...yesssssss. I mean Lewis is terribad at DayZ precious and his commentary is horrible, oh my yes precious. And Frankie gets paid too much to do other things these days and Jack is bored with DayZ precious so we needs the Pewdiepies....yes we does. Now in all seriousness...all you need to be scared in DayZ is to know you're being hunted but not be sure where the hunter is. And if you don't already play with that level of paranoia, then no amount of animated zombie nonsense is going to make you any more scared.

Hahahahaha. I'm just happy that someone finally made a movie about that short story so I could use it as a forum reference. Far as what you do for a living...I could really give a rats ass Burger King. Who you're fucking, how much money you're making and what you're sticking up your ass for fun and profit is none of my concern and never will be. You could be Nelson Rockefeller and I'd still think you were hilarious.
