    Shit Really Gets Real...

Please pay attention: I think you mistook my language. What I mean is the localized map for each server is topographically accurate to the region its in. I am well aware that "Russia" is not one BIG region, there are multiple states there, so there would be multiple maps.

    Shit Really Gets Real...

I think you mistook my language. What I mean is the localized map for each server is topographically accurate to the region its in. I am well aware that "Russia" is not one BIG region, there are multiple states there, so there would be multiple maps. And far as it being difficult, its not as difficult as it would have been five years ago. Procedurally accurate generation from accurate parameters can be a fairly automatic process, as DayZ is working with a static set of buildings (currently) and all loot types are tied to those buildings, even automating mesh placement along population centers is not that hard, then simply adjusting your civ/ind/mil percentages is also something that could be automatically done within a design suite. Then the human work of going in and making adjustments to the population centers to ensure for clear play flow and no mesh collisions takes far less time. Trees get painted onto a map in Arma, not planted one tree at a time. And if you have a suite which allows you to build a map by hand, anyone with enough time on their hands can design an advanced script extension for the design suite that auto populates a map with the appropriate static meshes for civilized areas simply by adding another "brush" to the map suite where you can paint in zoning types around the roads and have the buildings automatically place themselves. Stuff like this would have been impossible five years ago, its not impossible now.

    Portable Generator?

    Take it to Green Mountain.
  5. LOL entitlement much? I could run a rack of DayZ servers if I wanted to, I've got the servers and the bandwidth to do it. Christ if I just went and BOUGHT a server from someone else it would be even easier cause I'd pay less for that monthly than I would dedicating one of my blades to running my own server. DayZ has 1500 servers for its ALPHA already. I shouldn't have to run one of my own just to put up a server where the admins play just like everyone else. So as someone who has more colocated datacenter space than you do Mr Server Host who bought your DayZ server from a game hosting operation, just cause you're paying a paltry 50 - 75 bucks a month doesn't mean you get to play god with timezones to your liking.
  6. Exactly and the only people that I'm aware of that can keep adjusting time cycle at the server controls are the admins.
  7. Gamma/Brightness settings have server side clamps now, they're not half as useful as they were in 1.7.2. What I'm saying is without the night cycle, the game loses much of its sense of dread that it does have. Surviving the day is easy. And if the day never ends...the game stays easy. And in my group, I'm the only person that has a set of NVG's, this isn't about "wanting advantages" this is about wanting the environment to be challenging and at times, even scary. Zombies and daylight aren't very scary.
  8. Milgrade spawns are all hive linked, tin cans and chemlights are a sure sign that the server hoppers have gotten there first and all you're left with are the junk spawns.

Where'd you hide the animals, rocket?

I'm turning them all into TASTY MEAT. My plan for domination of Chernarus is to starve everyone else to death.
  10. This thread is the site of a successful troll raid. Everyone above this post are its victims. Poor souls.

    l85 tws still in game

I'm carrying an L85A2 AWS right now both thermal and NVS work on it. I did not crash when I looted it, and I don't crash when I use it. Odd.
  12. I'm sure you were in Dubrovka or Gorka looking for replacement parts. I really regret making off with your L85A2 AWS you left stored on it, and your NVG and RF and all your STANAG clips and all your morphine and cooked meat. But in all fairness I did leave you an M4A1 and an AKS-74 Kobra with plenty of ammunition (well for the Kobra, I took all the 5.56 after all, and even then only 5 clips of 5x45 for the Kobra.)...and even a can of beans! Which should at least feed you for your trouble! But seriously I'm really, really, really sorry about your flat tire, hope you get that ATV back on the road soon! Think of it this way, I'm merely an opportunist, a bandit would have just shot you in the face and taken everything! I actually gave you some stuff in trade! So...even Steven? :beans:
  13. Have a can of beans sir :beans:

    Is losing everything... Enough?

Perma-death with infinite lives is not perma-death. Thats why it has no teeth in DayZ. DayZ needs more reasons to survive, than it needs more reasons to disregard your own safety.

Going far up north, whats the point?

I go north due to Boy Scout/Military survival instincts. The mil grade stuff up there is a dangerous gamble. I need water, food sources, and cover position that gives me an eyeball warning on anyone coming within one klick of my position. Chernarus is a hostile place, all civs are potentially tangos, and everything that isn't is a zombie. Fuck the loot, getting up into the tree lines is about surviving one more day than you...or anyone else that gets within a klick of my position.

Zombies ain't doing shit + no loot

Its got to be related to AI sensor radius detection scaling to server enemy difficulty rating if you can go to different servers and get different results. Perhaps some servers were running a very low enemy_difficulty setting and now using a setting less than a certain numerical value completely zeroes out the 180 degree detection radius for zed AI.
  17. Or its a SQL error on the hive database servers which has assigned someone elses player_ID to your CD key for some strange reason. SQL demons can and will occur in alpha technology under high load...and DayZ definitely qualifies as high load.

Zombies ain't doing shit + no loot

Never....and definitely not today. But...it might be that they tweaked zed detection AI and nullified the sensor range at 180 degrees on some AI difficulty settings? Sensor detection at 180 degrees for all zed AI should be low....but thats definitely way too low.

    super zombies

Just below this post is someone else saying zombies won't even wake up if you wave raw meat in their faces. This is quite a conundrum.

Zombies ain't doing shit + no loot

Yeah I'm still belly crawling myself if I don't and I'm in any town or city I'm immediately trailing every zombie in the immediate vicinity. Perhaps its a difference in AI settings on different servers?

    Pitching a tent...

Yeah I've had immense trouble doing that because of the buggy placement interface atm. And still the rain was going through the tent I had. I guess for attempting to keep a persistent resupply point for key supplies when you've died the tent is a good thing, but with the rain issue I was seeing and the buggy placement at the moment, they're a lot of trouble.

Zombies ain't doing shit + no loot

I'm an indy developer myself, I know how it goes developing alone or with a small team. Sometimes shit breaks and you have to patch it and patching it breaks it more....it takes time to release a full stable and functional system. Suffice it to say, I wouldn't be making a living off my game if it wasn't good enough to survive its development growing pains, and its damn obvious that Rocket is on the right track as well. If I had a dollar for every developmentally ignorant malcontent on the internet, I wouldn't need to work 10 hours a day on my own game and I'd have enough money to turn an entire city of low income families into millionaires.

    Pitching a tent...

Right I know that, but the tent doesn't seem to be blocking rain...or wasn't last time I tried it. And storing things in it is of course a given...but why would I want to store ANYTHING in a tent that has a visual profile that is so unnatural and can be immediately recognized by its 90 degree line profile...even in the dark? Just saying the current mesh is obviously basic and needs some improvement in the area of making it a bit more functionally worthwhile to carry around...especially since it takes up a good chunk of non-tool inventory space.

Zombies ain't doing shit + no loot

Heres an idea. 1.) Buy Unity 2.) Do it better. 3.) Secure Trademark and Copyright claims 4.) ????? 5.) Profit Or....just deal with it, its an alpha, not a game you paid for, or you pay for monthly to play. Rocket's done pretty damn well, all things considered. I've seen professionally developed products release rougher than this.
  25. I was there, the tents were there, and some one was shooting at me as I left. I bet it was you!
