Take note that the Standalone is more demanding on graphics since it has been improved with the modified ARMA 2 engine(Pretty much a new engine altogether) What are your in-game settings you play on? I agree. I'm sure this will be worked on as the new sound designer has started work a couple weeks ago. Sound was noted to be crucial for development by Rocket. And there are some girls who happen to play as guys to avoid the confrontation of cyber attempts and harassment altogether.

I have played a game called Project Zomboid and you were able to move as many items you wish as long as they were in your inventory, just some take longer to put in than others and there'd be no damage at all. Some people have reported having better performance on high settings which is strange while the lowest settings seems to set you down quite low on FPS. Ping won't help much on computer performance unless if we were talking about DayZ Mod when it required a lot of restarts, ping is only good for your network latency. Try going to My Documents > DayZ > Other Profiles > Your Profile(Open as notepad) and edit your scene complexity to a higher setting.

Would we also see different types of melee weapons? Perhaps the ones we can craft to expand the varieties such as a wooden plank with nails or a barbed wire baseball bat :)

Very strange. I'm assuming this is just a bug since this has been reported by other people as well. Last week it was an issue with the Steam Authentication system but was fixed, guess it still occurs for some other people to my guess.

When using the server browser and hitting refresh, does the Receive (b/sec) change?

You could restart your Steam and have a friend of yours join a server in DayZ. If you do, open your friend's list in Steam and right click their name and click "Join Game"

Go to your Steam Library, right click DayZ and then click "Create desktop shortcut" Once that appears in your desktop, right click DayZ and then click "Run as administrator"

I'd suggest refreshing again and then leaving the server screen alone for a moment, perhaps like 2-3 minutes? Perhaps it could be a firewall issue as well if you have that enabled. If possible, you could try allowing the firewall program for DayZ.exe.Running DayZ as Administrator.
