This is meant for those of us who have a low end PC and want to make DayZ playable. It's a list of things to try if your game is running like crap and need more help. Some of these items don't affect the game directly, but help your system, which can increase game performance indirectly. This does not include any 3rd party software, only things you can do with your system to increase performance. This does not mean that if you follow these steps your game will be magically running at 100 FPS, but if you struggling with low FPS and believe you can get more from your system then try these things. My system is an Acer Aspire X1420G that I bought at Wal-Mart 2 years ago and I get avg. 40 FPS. I have an AMD Athlon II x4 645 @ 3.1Ghz, 4GB generic Ram and the only upgrade from OEM is an Nvidia GeForce GT 430. I will not go into detail in the list of items, you can google for more information specific to your system or hardware. And this is not a step by step, just a list of items you may not have tried, and some other info. If you have any tips you'd like me to add, just let me know. *Back up your system or settings before doing any of this, I take no responsibility! Defrag Hard Drive. Make sure your system is clean of virus, malware, etc... Ensure your firewall is not blocking or limiting Arma 2 in any way. Check your router settings for conflicting port forwarding, or set up port forwarding for Arma. Download the latest drivers and firmware for ALL your hardware, including motherboard, routers, graphics cards etc.. Set advanced system settings for max performance (system properties or advanced system settings in control panel), click on "advanced" tab. Click on the settings button in the "performance" area. Set "Visual Effects" for "Best Performance." Under the "Advanced" tab go to virtual memory and uncheck automatic, select "custom" and enter the same number in the initial and maximum box equal to twice the amount of ram you have. Example: 1GB of RAM = 1024, If you have 4GB of RAM you would enter 8192 in both boxes. Make sure your hard drive is defragged before doing this. Make sure you have the official drivers for your graphics card and not just what Windows tells you is right. This can go for "built-in" graphics as well. Add Arma 2 OA to your list of applications in your graphics driver software. For example: Open Nvida Control Panel, manage 3D settings, click on program settings tab, click add and navigate to your Arma 2 OA executable file and add it. Make sure it's operation arrowhead and not just arma 2, DayZ runs on OA. In your graphics driver control panel, turn off "threaded optimization" or equivalent. In your graphics driver control panel, set maximum pre-rendered frames to 1 (other settings may work better, up to 8) Turn off all other settings in your graphics driver control panel such as Ambient Occlusion, anti-aliasing, anistropic filtering, etc... Any settings that allow you select "performance", do so If your processor is overheating, your system will run poorly, check for proper cooling Ctrl-Alt-Del and open task manager. Close any unnecessary programs and processes before starting the game. You may need to play around with what you can close and can't. Startup Parameters More information on these can be found HERE. You can add these in Six or DayZ Commander in options/settings. The startup parameters I'm using are below. You may need to adjust the cpuCount and exThreads depending on your CPU. -nosplash -cpuCount=4 -exThreads=7 -maxMem=2047 -skipIntro -world=empty -maxVRAM=2047 Arma 2 OA config file You can find this file in Documents/Arma 2/ArmA2OA.cfg Open it with notepad. (the below settings are mine, brief explainations are in red) Before editing this, open your game and go to video options > advanced and change any options you are sure of. (change video memory to default to get the most out of it, make sure your resolution and 3d resolution match.) language="English"; adapter=-1; 3D_Performance=48387; Resolution_Bpp=32; Resolution_W=1366; Resolution_H=768; refresh=60; winX=16; winY=32; winW=800; winH=600; winDefW=800; winDefH=600; Render_W=1366; (make sure this number is the same at the above "Resolution_W") Render_H=768; (make sure this number is the same at the above "Resolution_H") FSAA=0; (0 = off for better performance) postFX=0; (0 = off for better performance) GPU_MaxFramesAhead=4; (the lower the number, the better the performance, you may need to play with it) GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=8; (the lower the number, the better the performance, you may need to play with it) HDRPrecision=8; lastDeviceId=""; localVRAM=1025966080; nonlocalVRAM=1878716416; vsync=0; (0 = off, depending your system you may have it on or off - try it) AToC=0; (0 = off for better performance) PPAA=0; (0 = off for better performance) PPAA_Level=0; (0 = off for better performance) Windowed=0; Once this is edited, save it. Right click the file and open properties. Click on "read-only" so Arma doesn't change it back automatically.

I agree, but even with death messages turned off you can check the debug monitor to see if you got a murder count. Hopefully that goes away eventually too.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this feature already exists. If a vehicle isn't interacted with in a certain period of time it re-spawns. But I think it's over a week.

Lol, really? Fail? I love internet people... There is a difference, and simply because you can see some settings in a config file that are the same means squat. The difference is/was on the server side. It has recently changed I guess, but when I hosted my own server the difference was that "expert" was editable and "mercenary" wasn't. So to my point... if you wanted a true hardcore experience, choose mercenary. If indeed this was changed then I concede, but fail? Learn to express yourself without using memes.

Being a bandit shouldn't give an advantage such as camo. Find camo like everyone else.

Just use DayZ commander and you can easily search for server features regardless of what's in the name. Also, mercenary and expert are not the same, do some more digging before you complain.

Chernarus is slightly bigger than Namalsk and still the biggest map currently. I believe there is another version of Chernarus that is even bigger.

People should read entire threads instead of just one post then rage about it. I've personally playedon Redux servers since they've been active and haven't had a single problem with the combat logging feature. In fact, I'll be honest and say I've actually logged out in the middle of being shot at by a heli, I hid under a tree and 30 seconds when by... I logged. Simple as that. You can still avoid any problems easily, It's the blatant alt-f4's that are being controlled here, those that when hit one time automatically hit alt-f4. If that's you, then complain all you want about zombies, disconnects, power outages, etc... we see you for what you are. cowards.

I think the biggest downfall of first person only is that it makes it hard to play for long. I personally get get ill when playing in first person too long, and I've heard this from many others. I agree 3rd person isn't as "realistic" as first person only, but the Field Of View doesn't match up with what a person really sees. Well, the FOV might match up slightly, but a human can move their eyes, and swivel their neck giving them much more control that what is capable in a first person only server. I personally can see my own shoulders in my peripheral vision but while in first person in DayZ can't even see my elbows really.

This is where the possibilities come in. We are currently thinking inside of the box that Rocket built, many things could be added that would only work if there is power. Like what you ask? I have no idea, I just thought it was cool. Don't get me wrong, I love where you're going with Redux, it's really the only version of DayZ I've been playing lately. I've been playing DayZ since very early and am just itching for something "new" is all.

A while ago I saw a "mod" that implemented a working power grid into the chernarus map. If that could be integrated into redux then wow, that would be nice. Would give people a reason to work together and a reason to fight instead of just a large death match with no real "end game" besides hoarding vehicles and gear. You'll never find a completely hacker free server. What you can do though is look for a whitelisted server that requires some type of registration. Do a search for whitelisted private hive servers.

I was stalking around the NEAF last night as well, solo... just went there to get some loot and there sat a heli, watched it for a long time but my piloting skills are still crap. Excitement eventually ensued. You guys shot at me on about 3 occasions, one of which you had me pinned down in a tree with a broken leg and less than 2000 health. The lee enfield that was found by the other guy came from me when I found a corpse and traded up to an M16 and got some meat. I eventually followed one of the little birds towards berenzino but with such low health I randomly passed out near a zombie and he ate my face off.

Please please please turn off the stupid ass death messages. This is the most ridiculous thing in any Arma Server... How the hell am I to know if when I shoot someone they actually die, and the rest of the server to know as well. Also, on a personal level, I don't want the rest of the server to know when I die. Just turn it off, it's a plus to the realism factor... clan wars be damned, I don't care if people want to know if their 600 meter sniper shot actually killed the guy or not, just turn it off. Sorry for the seeming rage, but it's just ridiculous.

I've driven a bus into the field north of electro near the power plant, shot out some tires and surrounded it with tank traps. It's all yours if you have the initiative to take it. There is also one bike at the lighthouse in cap golova and topolka dam. Please take advantage of the opportunity and make this server your home. There will be more vehicle give-aways in the near future on this server (US2461) as I would like more users.

If you were disconnected while on riding it you need to look behind or in front of you in the direction you were going. Sometimes the vehicle will keep going until it hits something, other times it stops and is behind you when you log in. More vehicle giveaways to come. Getting close to the end of the billing cycle on this server, without more activity it's not worth the time, money and effort to keep it going. If there is more usage then I feel like it's worth it, maybe giving away cars will help :)

Makes me sad to see people say "friendly" then shoot their face off.
