When you approach a town they'll start to spawn in at around 100-150m IIRC. Spotting zeds only works when you are outside of a town. When you get into town it's impossible to tell if the zombies are being spawned by you or another player.

How do you get to the NW Airfield?
Rogan (DayZ) replied to hotfrost's topic in New Player Discussion
Walking is how most people get there, since all the vehicles are hidden in bushes and your chances of finding them are slim. Dayz in its current state is essentially a hiking simulator with zombies, best get used to it. It generally takes a few hours for me to get to the NW airfield because I'll come from the SW, loot the towns, check the gulleys to the West, and generally mess about. You should loot the south airfield at Balota, all of the fun and none of the orienteering.. -
I wouldn't go anywhere near them, unless you enjoy hanging out with 12 year old script-kiddie retards.

Why are some servers darker at night than others?
Rogan (DayZ) replied to DerekTen's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't servers have the ability to restrict gamma settings now? I haven't seen anywhere doing it though. -
A jam on a reasonably well maintained weapon should take seconds to clear.

I think to trade we'd need to have some kind of no-pvp outpost. Not entirely sure how that would work, or whether there's even a real need for serious trade in this game. The most I ever need from another player is medical supplies, or maybe the odd magazine.

Get Lee Enfield, aim centre mass, problem solved. No need for your antipodean tears.

Taking away even more access to our servers?
Rogan (DayZ) replied to Soujyo's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The hive needs to handle a massive amount of data, so there's zero chance of that. Oh and you know what kind of people enjoy playing pirate servers? Hackers. Enjoy. -
I much prefer no pistols. Because... Now if I meet someone on the beach I can team with them instead of pew pew shootout.

I picked up an L85 2 days ago and it's fine. Ditto ghillie etc. E: noticed post above.

Try going prone and rolling with q and r.

Second video was really useful. Subbed.

DayZ should become a stand alone game using a different engine.

You are both incredibly rude and astoundingly ignorant. -
Underground Player Created Bases
Rogan (DayZ) replied to Oscarias's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To dig a hole you need a shovel and some time. I'd like to see how it's implemented before I rubbish it. For all we know they're talking about digging a hole in the ground and putting a bag in it. e: have some beans. -
You opinion on zombie aggro range?
Rogan (DayZ) replied to Shaimou's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
It seems a bit random at the moment. They aggro at 150m or so, which is way way too far. This would not be an issue if they didn't sprint so fast, and if there was some feeling of consistency with regards to light levels, stance, range and movement speed. If we are to work with the AI please tell us what kind of ranges the triggers work at because it's impossible to give a fair appraisal of the AI when one day you can crouch run past them at 20m, then the next day you're aggroing 10 at a time from across a field. -
20 words or less: Spawning without a weapon
Rogan (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
YES Now I don't have to kill everybody, just players with a rifle. Wish axes were more plentiful. Three words left. -
Yay! Updated to latest version+patch, logged into a server; I'm at the coast.
Rogan (DayZ) replied to Gashed's topic in New Player Discussion
This happened to me. I died and respawned into the character I used on the 1.7.2.1 test server. I've been having crazy times with the save state since 1.7.2/ -
Overwrite arma2oa.exe with the one from Expansions/beta. That was my problem... I guess you guys run the steam version too.

Upon entering a server, the screen fades in and out
Rogan (DayZ) replied to imepicwin's topic in New Player Discussion
Also having this issue on Steam version. Running 1.7.2.2 and taking care to enter only 1.7.2.2 servers. Beta is at 94876. RESOLVED by overwriting the arma2oe.exe in the main folder with the one in Expansions/beta. Schoolboy errors all round. :D -
No starter weapon removes survival instinct, and respect for zeds
Rogan (DayZ) replied to breetai3's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Unlucky, on the bright side you now get to play the game, instead of lurking about drinking from puddles. This game is all about the multiplayer interactions, which are a lot more difficult when every encounter is kill on sight. No starter weapon means there is no reason, other than amusement, to kill new spawns. In the current game it's important to become combat effective as soon as possible. You should be able to get a hatchet within 5 mins... unless you get really unlucky. -
next Patch: FIX D/C BEFORE NEW FEATURES
Rogan (DayZ) replied to osiriszoran's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This really isn't a major issue for me. My day isn't made or lost on the suffering of another player, if they care so much about some time they wasted playing a game then that's their problem. It has very little effect on the playability of this alpha build. Bodyshot with a Lee Enfield is going to be a kill on this server or the server you connect to next. Unless of course they hit Alt-F4, even then why should I care? -
Honestly, having them unarmed makes them absolutely no threat. When everyone spawned with weapons we were having firefights right on the beach. Now there's no reason to drop someone who's minutes into a game. More importantly if you meet other new spawns there's less risk in grouping with them.

Loot spawns on the shore would be good. But they should be stuff like crates of beans, firewood, flotsam and jetsam.
