Staff: Need clarification on ban-able offenses
Magotchi replied to walkerbait421's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It's not a vendetta, as nobody's wronged me. I'm just supporting the developers and advocating we respect the agreements we've made with them by hosting DayZ servers. -

All servers not following rules their operators agreed to, and therefore breaking the cohesion of the game, being blacklisted, would be great for the community. I agree completely. I hope you're wrong. -

No sense in reinventing the wheel with more discussion: -

That's not their official position, as of right now. -

Again, you don't have sufficient evidence, as I explained. Also, the important point of discussion is not about this particular rule, but that the rules should be universally followed, as all server operators have agreed to follow them. This would make sense if what went on in your rental car affected all the other cars the company rented. -

You're not obligated to host a DayZ server, but when you do host one, you agree to abide by the rules set by the DayZ team. -

Dekey: It isn't different. Admins ban on their own personal experiences, based on what they see in the game. What they see are their direct encounters with other players and what the logs tell them. They have tunnel-vision in that regard, especially with regard to DC-ing to avoid death, as they'll likely only ban people that do it to them in the game. They also generally have zero proof that the opponent left the game on purpose to avoid death. The person could have had connection/hardware problems, or the player could have teleported away (which would cause the admin to potentially ban anyone else they see disconnecting around that time), and without nametags, it's even more difficult to know which player you're dealing with. Someone disconnecting around the time you see a player disappear in front of you is circumstantial evidence; it's not conclusive. -

If admins can ban players at will, it's similar to them having a locked server or a no-friendly-fire server; the server can potentially just be used as a loot farm, with only players the admin likes playing on the server. The banned players also lose all their tents, tent items, vehicles, vehicle items, fortifications, and traps, often on the admin's whim. Regarding there only being a small number in favor of official DayZ rules, for one, that's irrelevant to the truth of the matter, and secondly, people don't often speak out unless they're opposed to the status quo. -
Be aware, I'm going to start banning.

Here's a similar argument: "My debtors aren't paying me, so I don't have to pay my debts." It's nonsense. Two wrongs don't make a right. If you are hosting a server, you've agreed to follow the rules set by the DayZ developers. -

While not relevant, I'm actually a libertarian Republican, and I'm very active in the party. -

I'm not a troll for disagreeing with you. You're the one resorting to namecalling, rather than sticking to the facts at hand. I'm of course very opposed to cheating and hacking, and as I get proof of it on a case-by-case basis on my server, I will permaban for it, and then notify the DayZ staff, as I'm allowed to do per their rules. -

When one sets up a DayZ server, they agree to abide by the rules of the developers, or else be blacklisted. You don't get the same level of control over your server as you would with, for example, a Counter-Strike server. Please read the stickied threads in this forum for more information on that exact subject. -

You're welcome to take a look at my signature that's been here the whole time to find out which server I manage. I've decided to start responding to these two threads on the topic because I'm bothered by all these admins who believe they can thumb their nose at the very important rules set by the DayZ developers. -
Again, I'm wondering if/why I should "want to install 1.61 RC2", and if so, will it be harder for players to connect to my server, since they're used to installing the beta builds on their clients, and the server naming scheme doesn't specify a difference between RC and beta builds, just the build number.

I'm not trolling in the least. In order to have cohesion in this game, which is essentially an MMO, the rules for adminning must be followed on all servers. Much like the airport terminal system, even one bad link in the chain compromises the entire system, and as the developers see such bad servers, they should delist them. -

This game isn't run server-by-server like many other games: it's essentially an MMO. You are not free to do as you please on a server you host, regardless of your MOTD. You are breaking the game by not following the rules the developers of DayZ have set and you've agreed to, either implicitly or explicitly, by hosting a server (or servers), and I hope your server is blacklisted. -
If they were the same, they wouldn't be two separate downloads in two separate threads, with two different descriptions. They're absolutely not the same. One is a compatibility build for those wanting to continue to use the Beta rather than RC2. Thanks for attempting to help, anyway.

When you say that, what it really ends up meaning is that they should avoid doing anything that might make you believe they're exploiting, and only in your tunnel-visioned view of the server as a player within it. -

When you ban a player from your server, you steal: all the tents the player owned all the loot within those tents all the vehicles the player owned all the loot within those vehicles all the razor wire, tank traps, bear traps, and fortifications the player had set up This is why we need universal rules on bans. -
Please re-read my post. I'm talking about the difference between RC2 95054 and beta 95054, not about the differences between beta 95054 and earlier beta builds.

You can totally permaban hackers. You just must provide proof afterward, or you risk being blacklisted. "...if they want to hamper us from protecting our server we are going to stop paying to host servers for the community..." IMO, good riddance. This game is a persistent world: admins breaking the rules on any one server harms the the game as a whole. If you can ban or kick as you please, you might as well have a locked server. -

I can't wait to see these renegade admins get their servers blacklisted.
