Uh, no. Devs who mod are not devs turned modders.

Sometimes my character doesn't save and I come back as a freshspawn!

Multiple hives. Pay attention to server naming. If you're sure you're on the same hive... bug. -
Some settings should be forced on, like shadows
[email protected] replied to whatup2003's topic in General Discussion
They can't force gamma and brightness. I don't mean they shouldn't, or won't, but can't. Short of taking complete control over your hardware and software all you're doing is changing where the setting is. -
I actually like zombies moving slow in buildings. It results in players taking cover in them to kill zombies and conserve ammunition. If you remove it then you're better off running and strafing in an open field which is silly. The bigger problem right now is there aren't enough zombies which makes it trivial to lose them, especially in a building.

Criticism on this forum is not allowed I see...

Bullshit. "WARNING: THIS GAME IS EARLY ACCESS ALPHA. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME AND ARE PREPARED TO HANDLE WITH SERIOUS ISSUES AND POSSIBLE INTERRUPTIONS OF GAME FUNCTIONING." If they were happy with the current state it wouldn't be an Alpha. Some people... -
Night time is tedious because of narrow light cone (tiring for the eyes)
[email protected] replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
Problem is the lighting. I don't know if it can be fixed with the engine. A flashlight in a small room should illuminate the room, not be bright in one point and pitch black an inch over. If that can't be fixed, then they need to have a wider, softer beam. -
Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
[email protected] replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
Why do you care? It's clearly stated the game is in Alpha. I'd rather contribute and have a chance to play it during development than wait. Nobody is forced to buy it. -
If you like that, go ahead. If you're looking for loot, it'll take orders of magnitude longer.

Thoughts so far on Dayz Standalone
[email protected] replied to ProGamerGov's topic in General Discussion
While I really don't want to be a party pooper because SA has a lot of improvements... 1. Actually it's based on server time, which can be anywhere. 2. Weapons are extremely common, just hit up any good spawn on a fresh server. 5. Loot isn't scarce. It's either everywhere, or nowhere, depending entirely on how many people have been around since the last restart. 3 & 4 I agree with. Sadly 2 and 5 aren't accurate (I wish they were). -
You can tear most (if not all) shirts into rags and use those as bandages. You don't actually need "bandages" per se. Hospital was (most likely) empty because the loot only respawns on server restart. Go to a server recently restarted and it's a gold mine, go there on one that hasn't and it's empty.
-
Just go to any good spawn area and find a server that's fresh. Exploring and scavenging is a waste of time.
-
Which has very predictable results. Scavenging or scrounging is not one of them. Exploration is not one of them. It's easier than ever to find "phat lewt". You go to a server that has recently restarted. If it remains it's only a matter of time, and not much at that, before there's websites and tools to track server schedules. And that's why it's absurd, and why the "arguments" here are absurd. If Rocket wants people to scrounge, explore or have trouble this will accomplish none of that. Except perhaps for the very new, who will likely find nothing and quit. I have an M4, gas mask, pistol, ammo, mods, mountain backpack, etc. anyone who thinks I believe this system is borked because it is "difficult" has a serious reading comprehension issue.
-
You should probably read the definition you just posted. My character was not running. So what are you getting at? That it's not ironic that my character dropped unconscious after 5 minutes of jogging? Or what? You're just posting nothing but smartass remarks yourself bud. I've argued this system is going to result in very specific (and likely undesired) behavior, not scavenging.
-
Hmmm what? Did I mention running? Unless you consider a light jog running. In which case people should be dropping unconscious left and right every morning.
-
Exactly which point did you respond to? I said having loot spawn on a server restart leads to certain obvious and predictable behaviors. You didn't address any of that. Who said anything about running. Reading comprehension please, for serious.
-
How is a text message more `realistic` than an icon. Last I checked neither scrolls by my eye in the real world.
-
You built a few straw men, knocked them down, didn't address a single point. And no, this is not difficult. It simply changes it to a "farm the restarts" game from a "farm the barracks" game. Ironically I just passed out traveling between two towns. Drank up at the well, started a light jog... unconscious from thirst within 10 minutes before even making it to the very next down (which doesn't have a well, unless they changed the map). I haven't actually found a drink yet, of any kind, or a canteen. Though I do have weapon mods, backpacks, helmets, etc. etc. So even when it's a fresh restart the loot mechanic is rather borked. Apparently there are 18 motorcycle helmets and backpacks for every can of beans.
-
Naive at best, you haven't thought this through. The ignorant will search buildings nearby, find nothing and quit. The rest of us will look for a server that restarted recently, or we'll wait until a server we know the schedule of restarts. Your hopeful scavenging decision will never enter into it for the vast, vast majority of players. P.S. We had a mechanic where loot spawned at server restart before: helicopters. What happened with that? Exactly. Now it is writ large.
-
Loot at server restart isn't going to force people to explore. People will login at restart, and not bother otherwise. Someone will die and the phrase "I'll be back after server restart" will be heard. Eventually someone will put up a website to track restarts by server and people will use that to flood or switch to more recently restarted servers. And so on... So, no, it's really not all that clever. On the other hand if there was a fairly random and large range of time in which new things show up then you could actually get scavenging. There'd be little point in trying to camp one spawn whereas visiting a server that hasn't restarted recently wouldn't be pointless.
-
No. The best you can do is monitor it and take action. It won't be stopped until at least standalone and higher populations attract the behavior for obvious reasons. When the server is at 20 or less it's usually only the people spawning vehicles, ammo boxes and handing themselves ghillie suits and coyote backpacks over and over. Soon as it hits 30+ it's only a matter of time until teleports, broken legs, death, etc.

Would you let your tents get wiped?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If I had the power I'd wipe everything on my server every 4-8 weeks. The problem will be back within a month or two. -
Hackers out of control
[email protected] replied to acid_blotter's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
To catch a cheater they must first cheat. There's been a lot of cheaters caught on 2099 lately. -
Vehicles are broken. Tents are broken. Graphics are broken. Multiple forms of duping are rampant. Hackers killing or teleporting entire servers is inevitable every time there's a decent population on one. It's damn close to 'unplayable' and we've seen essentially zero progress from the DayZ staff for about a month. Did get a nice update that made it more difficult to catch cheating and hacking though. Can't imagine why people aren't playing.
-
Are you ever going to address a single point? You mentioned corruption, which is utter nonsense. Anyone who wishes to be malicious or abusive has far easier and cheaper ways than using the log file. Removing the log file does exactly nothing. Every single time I'm on a server that reaches a 30+ population a hacker will show up within minutes. Rocket himself has said the hacking issues are at the heart of the engine. It highly improbable there will be an anti-cheat powerful enough any time soon. If there comes a point that such an anti-cheat is available then that is when you neuter the log files and start blacklisting servers for banning. Until then, it is sorely needed. It's another step, not a solution.

3 Servers useless now - Thx Dev Team
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
No it's a known issue with DayZ and has nothing to do with server configuration. Generally it's preferable if you know what you're talking about before you post.
