I should also point out that everything the log file revealed can still be gleaned by a server admin who knows what the hell they're doing. The difference is now the time and effort required to do so is simply too much for me to spend to weed out cheaters. If I wanted to be malicious I could do so, neutering the log file does not stop that. But if I had wanted to be malicious in the first place it was always far easier and cheaper to use a "hack" than it was to pay for a server and use the log file. Furthermore as a matter of policy there is still a rule against banning cheaters, so there's that too.

Again, what does that have to do with anything? Do you believe that "corrupting" the Hive had anything to do with removing debug messages? Bull. If you think those messages allowed any kind of corruption of the Hive and more importantly if you believe that such corruption could be stopped by removing them you have not a clue what you're talking about. There was one very effective tool for rooting out cheaters. They removed it. I guarantee you that was not a technological decision, it was a policy decision. Furthermore there can be no debate that the simple act of deciding to make a rule stating that server admins cannot ban is anything but a policy decision. This is a very simple argument about policy that you keep conflating with other irrelevant topics.

Easy method of seeing just how many hackers there are
[email protected] replied to UsuallyFriendly's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think I've ever spent more than 30 minutes at most in a 30+ server without a hacker showing up. That's only counting the ones that make their presence obvious by killing, teleporting, etc. everyone on the server. It's easy to avoid hackers if you never play on a server with more than 20 people. But then if you actually want to play this multiplayer game on a server where there's a more reasonable chance of encountering someone, good luck. Every day for the last 4-5 days one of my servers has hit 40+ twice a day, and every day it is quickly followed by a hacker and everyone leaving. I want to thank Rocket, again, for the inane policies and removing the RPT logging so that it is now far more difficult and indeed often impossible to tell who the hacker is. Thank you, I appreciate that. -
They'd have to absorb the $200k+ a month that the community is providing. Guess they'd rather engage in development and policies that ensure a hacker paradise. Anyone else notice that players in the last 24 hours is going down? Can't imagine why. Meanwhile every time my server hits 40+ players I know it won't be long before someone shows up to ruin it. Before I could track down who it was pretty easily most of the time and ban them, although even that was against policy! Now I can't even do that.

Vehicle and Tent Saving
[email protected] replied to Forceflare's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I haven't seen a single tent save work in 1.7.2.5 and there's numerous reports of it. I'd be very surprised if it's only "some" servers. -
Question about tent 1.7.2.5
[email protected] replied to Yipikaye's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tent and vehicle inventory do not save in 1.7.2.5. And no, that's not where all the duped items come from. There's far easier ways to dupe, fixing tents does not fix duping. -
People be cheating + Proof.
[email protected] replied to Mad_Vengeance (DayZ)'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Where does it show that? Because I don't see anything but someone sitting way the **** off map. -
Any program to read the RPT file?
[email protected] replied to echosyp's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It's not like they didn't announce it two weeks or so ago. Now we have essentially nothing to identify cheaters with. I would like to thank the author of DayZ Radar for being a flaming dumbass and releasing it to the public. Some of us had been catching cheaters with the RPT file, thank you for screwing that up. -
Tent and vehicle inventories are not saving in 1.7.2.5. So anything in them is pretty much stuck at this point.

Hotfix Build 1.7.2.5 Rolling Update
[email protected] replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
No artifacts so far but... Tent missing when I logged in, just one out of 4 disappeared. AS50 in my backpack is gone. Figured maybe the tent didn't load at mission start and restarted the mission. Logged back in at Balota Airstrip, about 13km from where I was before. =/ -
US 1857 Admin bans for guns we had
[email protected] replied to wurocket's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
How about you just play on one of the other 4000 servers? How about you drop the gun when you do or find some place that doesn't mind people running around with weapons that aren't supposed to exist? No. We should punish the people paying out a collective $200,000 or so per month to support DayZ, and by extension ruin the experience for the legitimate players they're protecting. /golfclap -
We Deserve an Official Response on Vehicle Spawns
[email protected] replied to worsin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Nobody cares what you would want for your server. It's a major part of the game to the rest of us. Stop digging, you just look worse with every post. -

Apparently you're the one who doesn't see the issue with DayZ servers missing a major component of the mod. -
A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
[email protected] replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
We make it a point to use vehicles to hunt for vehicles, and then destroy them, drive them into towns or give them away. -
Thinking about hosting a private server
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't believe DayZ Staff look kindly on private hives, so this is probably a bad place to post it. 120GB SSDs are more than enough. Traffic depends on whether the hive you connect to is local or remote, if it's local your traffic is going to go down substantially since that doesn't have to be sent anywhere. You're not going to be able to do this on a managed host, you'll need something like a VPS where you have control or a dedicated server. -
R4z0r49 restart script - Anyone know what happened?
[email protected] replied to masterbrain's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I don't see why that would be unless it's because they're using the configuration in the cfgdayz he bundled in the ZIP and it has something wrong/different. I have noticed problems with GameSpy (and SixLaunch and DayzCommander) with servers showing up but that's unrelated and happens regardless. -
Dealing with hackers on a Veteran server
[email protected] replied to shawn058's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The RPT file makes it obvious usually. Ban them. Of course there's several problems. 1. You're not allowed to ban them. 2. You have to ask DayZ staff to ban them. 3. Above requires proof, proof is literally impossible to provide since it's in a text file. 4. The RPT file is going to be gutted and probably be useless in the next update. So according to DayZ policy your only real option is to sit there and take it. And people wonder why hacking is so prevalent. -
We Deserve an Official Response on Vehicle Spawns
[email protected] replied to worsin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Restarting the mission does not clear vehicles or tents. Lately the server forums are just chalk full of people dispensing bogus information. -
We Deserve an Official Response on Vehicle Spawns
[email protected] replied to worsin's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Are you seriously this naive? Do you really not understand that when someone pays for a server to support and host DayZ they want it to actually have DayZ? If zombies and guns were not spawning would you be making the same asinine, utterly ridiculous and absurd comments? -
Used DayZ Radar to spot a hacker who does not appear on playerlist
[email protected] replied to sgtwilson's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Or the rest of us aren't foolish enough to release it on the official forums where it can be abused and will inevitably result in said tool becoming useless when the RPT file is gutted leaving us with virtually nothing at all to stop cheating. -
Incorrect server version?! and its bang up to date!
[email protected] replied to SNiperSMokey's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I would seek a refund and find a new host. If you're paying 135 you can find a dedicated server with full RDP access and handle it yourself. -
R4z0r49 restart script - Anyone know what happened?
[email protected] replied to masterbrain's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
It's in the e-mail you got. Unless you're with one of the 'managed' hosters, in which case it's in the e-mail they got. -
R4z0r49 restart script - Anyone know what happened?
[email protected] replied to masterbrain's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The script seems to be working actually. Can the OP post the errors they're getting? I checked and the files are all where they're supposed to be so there should be no issue downloading. There are some what I assume to be undocumented assumptions about your folder structure made by it, but that shouldn't be related to downloading the bans. I don't know if these were documented on the site before. Someone posts something with the word 'script' in it and you immediately accuse them of hacking and I'm the asshole?
