standalone default controller layout?
SG-17 replied to silentghost2001's topic in General Discussion
Right now it is pointless to use a controller. Too many buttons and no radial menus to replace functionality. Wait for the PS4 version near the end of 2015. -
Well I hope that it returns in some fashion near the northern edge of the map by the time the game goes gold.
-
I'm just curious as to why it was removed in the standalone. It was a unique area in the mod.
-
Removing third person from all servers is just asinine. Don't like third person? Play on a server without it. Pretty simple.
-
Did anyone else pronounce it as Day-Zee at first?
SG-17 replied to Rising (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
American English is a separate (and better) dialect of English than British English. Noah Webster intentionally changed the spellings of certain words (removing the unnecessary "U" from certain words, like color, returning them to their proper Latin roots instead of the bastardized French influenced "colour"), and altered pronunciation on others. Funnily enough the current General American Accent (the one you hear in movies, on TV, from news hosts, or in areas like the East Coast outside of New Jersey, New York, and New England) is the original British accent. It is what you would have heard from both Colonists and Redcoats in the 1700s. The modern British accent didn't evolve until the mid 19th century. So American English is the correct form of English. The pronunciation difference between American English "Zee" and (in SGA's case) Canadian English "Zed" was lampooned and lampshaded throughout the early seasons. -
Yeah, and being in Teamspeak with people across the map isn't an "immersion killer".

That video in the OP was simply amazing.

The Winchester 1866 should, realistically, have a MUCH longer reload time
SG-17 replied to Powell (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Zipper is correct. Henrys were basically prototype repeating rifles. Winchester improved on the design so much that Winchester Repeating Rifles are still very accurate and very efficient guns. They just have been overshadowed by modern weapons. The reload time of a Winchester by an experienced wielder is about 7 seconds. There is a reason why the Winchester is called "The Gun that Won the West". -
No. 3rd person is the equivalent of having periphial vision but without the wallhacking white dots of the ARMA2 periphial feature. It should be an option for server owners, the same with crosshairs.
-
No. Let the server owners decide.

Staing alive. But how "old" are you?
SG-17 replied to deadzen's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
42 days. Playing it safe as fuck. I only ever entered Berezino once and got all of the gadgets I'd ever need in the supermarket. Sticking to raiding barns, deerstands, and sheds may sound boring to some (it isn't to me) but it keeps you alive. -
Is there any way to play this game on high without lagging?
SG-17 replied to pixelbl4ster@yahoo.ca's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
At that resolution you should be running everything at max with even 3 year old cards. Is this a prebuilt PC or did you build it yourself? What OS are you running and is it 32bit or 64bit? -

Well I was advised by a cadre of people to stay away from the 560Ti 488 when I was building my above build. Are your drivers up to date and what resolution do you play in? Also RAM is cheap (at least in the US) so if you can, just upgrade to 8gb regardless of your usage, and make sure the voltage and timings are correct in your BIOS. -

I can't check for a few hours because I am not at home, but I am pretty sure that I have everything set to "High" or "Very High". Whichever is the max for each setting. But if I remember correctly, the GTX Ti series are shit cards. So that is probably your problem. You could do with some more RAM too. -

AMD Phenom IIx4 965 Black 3.4ghz Quad-core XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB 8GB DDR3 1600 RAM Win7 64bit 20" 1600x900 LED. No overclocking at all. $823 total build (with case, speakers, monitor, and OS). And I run the game at max settings and get 60fps constant (Vsync on). It is amazing what running at sub-1080p will do for performance.
