i become attached to certian weapons because i use them frequently. i learn the ins and out of their behaviour, the amount of time i have to reload, or how its scope works, for example, i love the einfield more then most guns in thie game. i like the look, ive hit targets upwards of 150-200m with this thing reliably, i cant shoot an ak to save my life though, i gave my kobra away to use this gun again. when it comes to sniper rifles, m24 is where its at. i know its scope i know its temper. ill take the m24 over the 50 cals anyday. maybe its sentiment, maybe its all mental. but tehre is just some gear i love having.

rocket has stated it would take him about an hour to make a map work with day z.

Is the average life expectancy accurate for you guys?
opticalshadow replied to kirak95197's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
my very first character lasted 3 days, logging about 20 hours, i just ran as far north on spawn as i could, and looted the empty towns. the last guy died to friendly fire, partner shot me by mistake (was trying to shoot the zombie aggro) this guy now, short of being shot and killed by anotehr player, i doubt zombies will bother me much. me and my buddy have a nice supply of ammo, blood packs food and such. i do however see players gettign killed regurally. the same names pop up every ten to 20 minutes, so i guess theres a huge amount of players that cant make it. -
A definitive end-game discussion. Experiences & Opinions.
opticalshadow replied to Goldstein (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i play with a small group, end game id liek a large one, able to field 10 guys, with two fire teams. i want to be able to have our mobiel camp, build our stockpiles to replenish lost of death goods. be able to move into a city and hold if for a day or so, just looting, stockpiling. eventually when rocket adds in player fortifacations, move into a more permanate situation. perhaps after we establish ourselves on whatever server we make home on, we become big enough to take and hold some portion of the map permantly, and lay claim to surrounding loot areas, maybe another group will follow suite and make home elsewhere. i would love for it to grow into a realistic evolution of society. currently were all nomads, eventually with enough force we can settle, with that we can from a localized economy, a form of goverment, maybe one day people will wish to hire us for reason, need an air field escourt? we take a hefty percentage of the loot. need particular ammo? we need blood packs. maybe we will get so big, or prominate that players seek sanctuary within our borders, they seek to safly loot our towns, under our guards, perhaps they will pay a tax for this service. maybe one day my group will lay down its days of adventure, becoming poloticians. we will have people who depend on our supplies to the point of performing jobs, we no longer have to loot, we dictate who does, and the will be paid how we see fit.. laws will be born, a police unit forms. we can reliable field a flow of players of around 20+ at any time. our numbers stay on the server high enough that only another equal sized group could ever hope to do any harmt o us, but they would have their own soceity across the map, maybe diplomacy will be born. the bandits will try to test us, there will be blood shed, but there will be a point where our men are not dying often, and when they do that dont lose anything, a helicopter will pick them up at shore, and their equipment will wait for them, the bandit will spawn at cherno, and struggle with the world outside our walls. yes i know how unlikely that sounds, but the game mechanics are all there, its all possible, it could happen. and if were talking about theoretical end games, why not shoot big. -
Anyone in Cherno? The Good Old Dayz.

i found myself trying to type out in side chat today after i killed a guy, he ran into the barn i was in, didnt even see me, but he was alerting the horde with his careless fire, and i cant afford unneeded attention. was ashame, because his loot wasnt worth the bullets that i used to put him down. i miss being able to talk as im on a 15 minute trek across a forest, or as im spending 30 minutes skirting and scanning a town before entry. alot of my time in this game is spent in the shadows, and i play almost always in night, so things are slow and lonely, miss having global chat. -
i love people who hide on buildings in cities and snipe people. you are so easy to spot with my m24 from the forest, i dont even want your loot, i just come to the shore time to time to snipe the spawn campers. they tend to rage more then the people their camping.

Stary Sobor a waste of time?
opticalshadow replied to mccullxch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i normally hit the big loot spots during night time, on low pop. if there are between 10-15 players on a server at night, theres a much lower chance their camping all these places, and its alot harder to get spoted. as a rule of thumb military instalations and cities are off limits to me in the day time, to many people doing dumb things, the only exceptions are if the server im on happens to be low enough pop to risk it. -
if you allow admins to password their servers or kick for anyreason, it gives them power to restrict the player base. now you might ask, why is having people who want to play friendly have a server for themselves? because it skews the data. players are playing the mod with a restriction not in the game, and it messes the alpha testing up.

Is losing everything... Enough?
opticalshadow replied to Deuzerre's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
well i did not intend to be understood liek that. and while he did say he want IRL skill to matter, he also said there would be progression on characters lost on death, as an insentive to group and survive together. -
Is losing everything... Enough?
opticalshadow replied to Deuzerre's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
no what i read is he mentioning specifically things liek engineering improving over time and all progress lost of death. because thats literally what he said. i didnt say youd get a talent tree, or xp point anywhere, i mearly said that you would have skilsl that improve as you use them, and lose when you die. -

i have a map i use, it has loot marked but i mean, its common sense to check the barn hosues buildings and tents anyway, so i dont see how its breaking immersion. i was going to walk into one if i seen it anyways. but i use the map for naviagating with a party until i find a map, if im playing by myself i generally wont use a map unless i have one in game, but if i dont have one and a friend hops on, i want to be able to connect with them.

WTF Global/side chat removed?
opticalshadow replied to Jaeskern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
there are threads on these forums that have public chat servers, for mumble and ts, which are free of use. perhaps you should join one to communicate with other players. -

acording to rocket, player skills/traits will be added in, you can specilize in being a doctor, or engineer, the better you are the more you can do, the more importent you become, and when you die, you lose all of that progress. when this gets implemented death will be alot more harsh, when your groups best doctor dies, and your overall survivability falls with him, you might all actualyl mourn him. the subject of lives being more valuable and death meaning something more has been touched on in the past, sticked threads contain the links. -
Zombies being overpowered is good...in concept right now it is just annoying.
opticalshadow replied to Slyguy65's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
in the thread containing things rocket has said, he goes into saying exactly what he wants with day z., more to the point, neraly everything discussed in this thread has been commented by rocket (in one of the links in the thread i mentioned earlier) not only that, the fact that all this has been discussed and is labled as a sticky on the first page of the forum, you contridict yourself. you want settlements, but you say barb wire and sandbags are crap. but those items are the foundation of a settlement, they allow protection, most importently from players. zombie ai has been touched on by atleast 5-8 threads i can recall rocket talkinga bout. there are alot of things that take priority, there are alot of restrictions. if it were as easy as just doing it, it would be done. rocket (Again in the thread sticked at the top of the forums) has went in depth as to why these things people think need to be done now, cant be done now, or why their put off.. im not trying to bash people here, but i see a person mad that someone didnt read their post whent hey said you were restating things, and i see you making assumptions about the design process. the thing is this all has been discussed, the developer has commented on it, and went out of his way to explain the why's and why not's. please read teh plethoa of comments rocket has made (it will take over and hour) and you will have most if not all your questions answered by the one guy who actually matters. -
The Person who owned the server YogsCast was on
opticalshadow replied to iomegadrive1's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
rocket has said bluntly having a private server compromises and stalls development. that servers are not to be private, kick or discriminate who can play on the server, and any server doing so is breaking the rules. if you doubt this statement, read the sticky post containing all of the things rocket has said, this point comes up multiple times. -
WTF Global/side chat removed?
opticalshadow replied to Jaeskern's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
as for finding a gun, they really are not hard to find, your spawn points will either be a few minute run to a farm or a town, and either one will have some nice weapons. it can be rough, yesterday i had two annoying spawns, on one server all the coastal building had the loot spawns barbwired off (found one i could "v" over a table got a revolver) and another one had nothing but people camping the coast, took 20 minutes, but i got past the general camp area foundan 1911 in a house) guns are plentiful, you just need to look for them. -

Is the PMC DLC worth it for the higher res textures?
opticalshadow replied to SG-17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
most are buying a game and an exspantion to play that mod, so your already in the shit waist deep. and again it goes back to what rocket was saying, putting out money for this game, shows the big dogs were tired of carebear games. -
theres a sub forum called survivors HQ, in there you will find plenty of people to group with.

dead on some servers????
opticalshadow replied to Aggressor (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
it could mean your joining servers that are modified and not on the database that they should be. -
personally, i feel night is better, i can survive vastly longer at night. but you have to adjust, and most people dont, and event he ones who does primarily gamma blast the darkness.

What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
opticalshadow replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
rocket already replied lootable skins are a planned feature. as far as zombies being mroe of a threat, im sure it will come, but somethign you have to look at, and something rocket has brought up multiple times. zombies are seldom the actual threat in zombie genre. weather its dawn of the dead, walking dead, 28 days later, carriers or zombieland what ever movie or series you look at, zombies are more of an area of denial object. they force people in isolated and crowded situations. the major threat in all of these things, is the otehr people. weather its arguments over whats moral, or a strife in power. if its love, or if its supplies and survival. the majority of the plot, and time in the movie where drama and thrill builds and plays out isnt between zombies and humans, its between the humans themselves. rocket sees this, and he points it out, and also points out DayZ emulates this. Yes the zombies kill people, they are dangerous, they are the main protaginost. but the greater threat is still otehr survivors. and just like in those movies, the zombies are area of denial. they control how we have to move, what we can do, you can fight though them or avoid them, but they are still forcing you into a situation where life is harder, supplies are dangerous to get. everyone experiences this, and its down to the humen behaviour to sort out priorities. sadly, this often means that weapons and food, are more valuable then life in alot of situations. even in groups you watch on youtube, people who are friends in real life, who play with eachother, you will see, that dispite this, when teh situation turns sour, they wont risk that m204 or that GAZ to save their friends life, the supplies are simply worth more then the life. -
Worried about DayZ's future, let's discuss.
opticalshadow replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
if you want to survive in any situation, then you must learn to adapt, there will always be CoD for the crowed that doesnt. until then ill enjoy the free beans.
