I don't know what happened. It was the most awesome thing that ever happened, I met a friendly! He gave me some cooked meat and we headed up to cherno from balota. We were in the hospital and you were about to transfuse me. You suddenly fell over and disintegrated. Thinking you just got sniped, I booked out of there. I hopped on the forums hoping you'd see this and we can hang again. Thortimer

Mr_Oklahomie I swear I didn't kill you!

Mr_Oklahomie I swear I didn't kill you!
Thortimer replied to Thortimer's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And I found him again and got kicked from the server. I can't find it now! It was a recruit server (US) and he was with/waiting for his friend Mercid (sp?) he was thinking of going and finding another guy NP (with some symbols in his name) who had killed mercid and stole their bus. It was gonna be awesome! -
But, it may start making the difference a number of times. So many times, it may discourage battle dcing and curb its use to only the truly dedicated dcers.

I know mine could've gone better, or rather, almost made me drop the mouse and close the laptop. I spawned just outside Cherno (by the docks). I managed to somehow wander all the way to the grocer without alarming any zombies. I finally sneak into the back lot of the grocer and *bang*, my legs are broken. "Friendly," I say frantically into the air. At this point, all I have on me is a flashlight because I accidentally used my bandage already. A female avatar runs up to my body, with the revolver she used to break my legs still aimed at me. After looking down at me for a moment, she picks me up and drags me out into the street so I can be feasted upon by zombies. Fuck. Five minutes of fuck.

Server admins stealing GUIDs for spoofing
Thortimer replied to dayzdeadmeat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If I understand correctly, if the problem is that GUIDs are being stolen and spoofed by hackers, the problem rests with BE and not DayZ (or possibly even ArmA 2). Why don't we (everyone who has purchased a copy of ArmA 2 [bE included]) use our combined consumer leverage to get BE to look into this issue? -
My name is Dr. Phil, and I'm here to help you.
Thortimer replied to Doyle McPoyle's topic in New Player Discussion
I support you and your efforts, Dr, Phil. If I see you though my scope in Cherno, know I've got your back. -
I think that the loss of keys could be made up made creating layers of buttons (kind of like Assassin's Creed with High profile and Low profile actions). It may take some creative engineering, but isn't that what separates us from monkeys flinging poop at one another (that and poop flinging). But I agree that current generation consoles couldn't even begin to attempt to play Arma 2, even stripped down to stick figures.

This is one of those things that, you know, might be useful. I can't say how many times I've come across a little lake or water pump and wished I could scroll my mouse wheel up and select "Drink from Source".

Noob question for Wire Fencing Kit and Tents?
Thortimer replied to Lawson's topic in New Player Discussion
Only the person who places the tent can pack it back up. That being said, I think you can destroy them in other manners if your goal is to cause others grief (not nice, btw). -
Unless they're the only one qualified to design the next mission to Mars. Seriously, don't judge a book by its cover. Just because the limitation of current generation consoles is what it is, that doesn't mean anything for the next generation. If it can be done, someone will do it. If it isn't Rocket, then it'll be his own damn fault (not that it seems like he's overly concerned about it, anyway).
-
Of course, instead of entertaining any other viewpoints or opinions, we should just get them off our forums. You heard him, march! ;)

Noob question for Wire Fencing Kit and Tents?
Thortimer replied to Lawson's topic in New Player Discussion
Items placed on the map are server specific. If you want to move that tent, you'll have to pack it up. The only constant is the player characters and their inventories (mostly). EDIT: Barbed wire, too, and that can only be destroyed upon removal. -
Why I cant run normal arma 2 oa without DayZ mod
Thortimer replied to palisk's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
When you have the DayZ mod activated, the Arma 2 single player (possibly even non-DayZ multiplayer) doesn't work right. If you have the game open, you should be able to disable DayZ in Expansions. If not, find the base .exe (not the Beta alias) and run it from there. That should resolve not being able to play Arma 2. -
I just found the most amazing thing...

It was great, I did this today, but instead of killing me, it just highlighted and I didn't actually select it. I'm never changing that shit again.

Trust me, as someone who tried going through the same exact experience, you're climbing a mountain in a mudslide. No one here is going to help you with that, they'll hardly tell you to just get bootcamp. But seriously, bootcamp. Windows 8 Cunsumer Preview is free right now, and runs great (and you should be able to use it several months after Window 8 comes out proper). Wine just doesn't get along and there just isn't enough support for Arma 2 with it. I use Mac for music (recording and composing). Be aware why you bought a computer, since I found DayZ, I've started playing alot more video games on my laptop (something I never used to do outside The Sims and Spore). I'd still buy a mac. ;)

You guys are acting like PC gamers would share severs with XBox and other Console gamers. In all likelihood, if it did ever make it to the console, the two would be played on separate hive severs specifically to combat advantage/disadvantage issues. The way I see it, if Rocket can incorporate console play to DayZ without compromising his overall vision, he's only limiting possibilities for the future by not considering all venues. Heck, it could be used to hype up the PC version, which could be a much larger expanded game than the console version (kind of how the Sims is, but not like that because EA murdered the series [especially with the console releases, so it really isn't a good example for my case, but rather, the opposite xD])
-
You're preaching to the wrong choir... Besides, I don't think current gen consoles will be able to give everyone the DayZ experience they're going to expect. However. I saw so reviews about the developer release software for Microsoft's next console (codenamed Durango). It looks like it might at least bring a sliver of hope for something as in depth as DayZ. I'd buy it.

I like the idea, but why not a step further. Most weapons in the game are disassembled/damaged you have to find the correct parts to get them to work. Like you found an akm that is assembled except for a firing pin. On your travels to the NWAF you find a box of firing pins. Now you have a working akm.

Water Bottles, How Many Is Too Many?
Thortimer replied to Bramacgar's topic in New Player Discussion
I always notice players around me by the sound of opening a soda can. Just chugging them inside the building is about the worst thing you can do if you don't know the extent of your surrounding (i.e. always in this game). -
servers not showing up in six/betapatch/steam launch of game + freezing
Thortimer replied to Prec1sioN's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
Just has to be the night I can play DayZ, right? -
It's still a problem... :( And I'm almost to Stary.

Currently a big fat load. I got stuck there today and, despite logging off and on repeatedly, I stayed in the debug hills.Hopefully this does get resolved before the Respawn is removed.

Shooting on sight and shooting new spawns

Stop them yourself. That's what I do. Or try. Miserably.
