Completely false information. Your friend is most likely broken the target and start in lines within the OA properties in steam and an error is preventing him from launching. He just has to fix the target and start in lines and it'll work again. EDIT: Also, he might mean that DayZ won't work if you run the normal ArmA2 steam version. THat's true. You have to make a shortcut of the ArmA 2 beta client, found in the steam Operation Arrowhead folder, then add the beta client shortcut to steam, then add the "target" and "start in" lines to make it work. Google installing dayz for steam and you'll find instructions.

Immersionally: Yes it's against the spirit of the game. Functionally: A vital and much, much needed part of the game. Without, it would be a real pain coordinating and playing dayz in a group. Realistically: Even if it was against the rules, how are you going to enforce the rule? How do you detect without guessing who's running TS?

You probably accidentally used a private hive server, those have separate character progress from the main DayZ hive. That's the only explanation I can think of. You can't have 2 characters without having 2 copies of Operation Arrowhead and so 2 cd-keys. Changing profiles in-game does not make a new character.

beta patches come out quite often. Prolly once a week. Update to a newer one when your favorite server does.

I can dual box DayZ with 40 fps running everything on high and I'm using a 3 year old HD5850 1 gig. Also the recording quality isn't influenced by the oomph of your graphics card but your processor and in addition for better quality you need a good amount of HD space. Runnin fraps at steady 30 fps capturing full screen size ends up with about 3 gigs per minute of video. Fraps usually eats ALOT of processing power, even with an i7 870 I drop from steady 45 fps to 20 fps when running fraps, so instead of having a hugely powerful graphics card (tha arma 2 doesn't really need to run everything on highest) you should focus on a powerful CPU and fast SSD hard drive. SSD will help a lot with your fps because arma 2 is very client side heavy and the faster it can access data the faster your game will process if paired with a powerful CPU. Rendering is what takes most time in video editing, and rendering is done by the processor, not the graphics card, so having a powerful processor will speed that up as well. Also, don't bother with 16 gigs of RAM. Just don't. Most applications in the entire width of the software world don't even make use of 8. So 16 is just waisting a good 8-12 gigs of RAM and money.

Of course there is data for the game. Go to C:/program files(x86)/steam/steamapps/common etc... there you will find a full list of your games, including ArmA2 OA and the beta client.

If it makes you feel any better, it wouldn't have mattered if you had a different kind of a vehicle. It's easy enough to shoot you through the windows. One time I sniped 2 guys out of a moving UAZ :D

SVD camo is pretty much the rarest item in the game at this point but still you could probably find people willing to trade their svd for a pair of nvgs. People get turned on by the idea of playing during the night and hunting people who don't have NVGs.

Many servers run an automatic system that locks the server when too many people are trying to connect at once. It's to spread the traffic on a wider time span so the server doesn't lag out.

Well maybe one of the less valuable vehicles. Not more than one though. You could switch it for about 2 weapons though, or one m4 SD. Ya have to understand that NVG's, while asshat rare, are a bit useless when most people play during the day and avoid night time servers. They would allow you play on a night time server, but what's the point when there aren't many others around? NWA isn't safe even with NVGs during the night anyway.

How do you plan on doing that? If you have yourself attached to rockets hive, it's exactly like any other server, even if you name it RP server. Anyone come and go and do what ever they want and you can't do anything about it. Only thing you can do is get an immoral private hive server.

Once you find 1 tent, you have infinite amounts of tents. Every time you repack a tent and pick it off the ground, it respawns back after the first server reboot and you can just repack that as well and so on... And most people who have anything of any worth already have a tent one way or another so, they're not really interesting goods for trades. However! I do wish good luck with your trials :)

You would be surprised, every time a server locks down for any reason, someone has this happen to them and they come here with a thread like this. Truth is, there is no way to tell and no way to make sure.

Steam sale for ArmA finally hit so I ended up buying a third copy of Operation Arrowhead. I've been dual boxing DayZ for a couple of weeks already and I initially intended the second character as a safe storage mule, but alas it ended up being my loot-town-man while other one is cower-from-vantage-camp-monkey. Now I have a third character to run around. Though I doubt I can triple box the game :D Either this one will be my storage mule or maybe it'll end up being a cherno / elektro ass-hat hunter. I love killing them high gear asshats off the hills overlooking these cities. I was wondering how many others do this and has anyone else gone the triple boxing way or having more than 2 characters in general? Got any dual-box / triple-box stories to share? So far mine are pretty uneventful, but at times I've chased out people with my runner from Stary tents out in the open and nailed em from 700 meters with the sniper. Also, I welcome some heated discussion on the topic, as always before!

Not really much point in this because we only have like 3 screen shots of WarZ and no idea what DayZ will end up being. So... :D

You bought another copy of Combined Operations? You didn't know you could do with just buying another Operation Arrowhead? Would have saved you 10€ Been there and tried that. We had a tent city of about 15 tents between 7 people, raided, later on when you could hide tents in forests as well, we had a small camp of 5 tents, raided, then I went solo camping and made super well hidden "stash" tents around the map, within a week all raided. Camps are good but mainly just for temporary storage. Good rule of thumb with em is that they will ALWAYS be found. It's just a matter of time. Mule character negates that completely although can't store nearly as much. But then again I've already found a better use for this third character than a storage mule. Something a lot more creative and useful for the community ;)

Yeah I recall having 3 accounts of my own at one point back when I was still fairly noobish at 2 year mark :D Used to float 2 hulks and an orca to munch out belts all by myself in highsec. Got expensive and got boring. Played with one account for a long time after that, been dual boxing in between at times, pvp and industry toons,you know how it is :)

Cool cool. I've been away for a few months again. My interest wanes and peaks up again in some sortta few month intervals. Last time played was in may, stocked up like 8 billion worth of nocxium and zydrine and now waiting for the stocks to dry up towards the winter to make a few billion isk profit on the piles. I'll be back again around when the prices sweeten up <3
