DMR test-out range finding and mil-dots table
Daddy'o (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually posted this thread couple weeks back but since I lost my previous forum account during the change I'm reposting this under this user so I can get the updates from the thread as well as the PMs. If you see the old thread don't bother bumbing it or contacting the OP as that account is in the database ether. Pasted: I was going to reply with this to the other DMR thread that's on the first page at the time of writing this, but isntead I decided to make a fresh thread for it as I'm hoping it will be of more help and more easily found this way. I would first like to say I didn't intend to spread these numbers online only for the reason that I'm not anyway trained nor have any real experience nor have I the know-how related to zeroing weapons. These figures are purely tested out case by case, moving 25 meters back and forth on the North Western Airport using the ArmA 2 In-game editor. I tested each range, moving back and forth until I found a spot where I could lay a headshot precisely and repeatedly using the mil-dots aimed at the head. Be mindful the mil-dot ranges and the range-finding figures are both approximates and not factual. Having said that tho, they are completely recreatable and are reliable. I've been playing with these figures glued on the sides of my screen with post-its for a long time and they've served me well. My team even asks me for these figures on VOIP when they're scoping out people themselves and have yet to complain about a miss. There will be a youtube video of my testing, yes I frapsed the whole thing to prove these numbers. So first off I'd like to get this out of the way; the DMR is zeroed at 300 flat when fully zoomed. Trust me. Yes the wiki is wrong. Here are the mil-dot ranges. They obviously vary with your level of zoom so here are both unzoomed and fully zoomed (but nothing in between). unzoomed: 0. mil-dot 175 meters 1. mil-dot 400 meters 2. mil-dot 600 meters 3. mil-dot 800 meters 4. mil-dot about 935 (bit inaccurate due to target size at this range) fully zoomed: 0. mil-dot 300 meters 1. mil-dot 425 meters 2. mil-dot 500 meters 3. mil-dot 575 meters 4. mil-dot 650 meters Range finding lists I tested with hand-eye coordinated measuring using the scope: Mil-dot height by leveling the crosshair horizontal line just under targets feet: Standing / Crouched / Prone Fully zoomed: 7.0 / 5.3 / 2.2 = 250 meters 8.0 / 4.5 / 1.7 = 300 meters 5.5 / 4.0 / 1.5 = 350 meters 4.8 / 3.5 / 1.4 = 400 meters 4.2 / 3.1 / 1.3 = 450 meters 4.0 / 2.9 / 1.2 = 500 meters 3.6 / 2.6 / 1.1 = 550 meters 3.4 / 2.2 / 1.0 = 600 meters 3.0 / 2.1 / 0.9 = 650 meters 2.8 / 2.0 / 0.8 = 700 meters 2.5 / 1.9 / 0.7 = 750 meters 2.2 / 1.7 / 0.6 = 800 meters Unzoomed: 4.6 / 3.2 / 1.2 = 150 meters 3.5 / 2.4 / 1.0 = 200 meters 2.9 / 2.0 / 0.9 = 250 meters 2.1 / 1.6 / 0.7 = 300 meters 1.9 / 1.2 / 0.5 = 350 meters 1.7 / 1.1 / 0.4 = 400 meters 1.5 / 1.0 / 0.3 = 450 meters 1.2 / 0.9 / 0.2 = 500 meters Hope they're of use to you. Happy hunting! -
DMR test-out range finding and mil-dots table

Can't tell you right now as I'm not home and can't check, but I'm quite sure you're correct with that assumption with the evidence you've provided. Guess I'll have to start testing out more setups and make more tables :) -
DMR test-out range finding and mil-dots table
Daddy'o (DayZ) replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Ah well this would seem to confirm the previous statement of resoulition and aspect ratio difference. Also, I get that exact same result with 300 flat no matter how many times I try :S Well I guess it's back to the drawing board! -
DMR test-out range finding and mil-dots table
Daddy'o (DayZ) replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Yeah I'm afraid that could very well be true. That's why I tried to be careful to point out these aren't factual. I would like very much if someone could test these out with the arma 2 editor and confirm or deny these. My thought process however is that the resolution and aspect ratio affect the target as much as the target, meaning if aspect ratio or resolution affects the mil-dots, it would also affect the target in the same manner canceling each other out. However this is just me thinking out loud. -
Dual boxing accounts step by step guide
Daddy'o (DayZ) replied to Daddy'o (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Originally I intended the other character as a super safe storage mule for items, but I ended up using the other for solo play when I used the other to play and log off with my group. Every once in a while I use the other character to overwatch with L85A2 and snipe while I use the other one to loot a town I'm watching. -
Dual boxing accounts step by step guide

It stops the automatic fire function that comes when you dual box. At least in my case every time I alt + tab in between the 2 characters, the character I hop to fires one shot from the weapon he has out 100% of the time even if you don't touch the mouse. Easiest way to stop is to press esc to open main menu before tabbing. -
1. Install operation arrowhead 2. open windows start menu 3. type in the search "regedit" 4. open regedit 5. using regedit open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE 6. open SOFTWARE 7. open Wow6432Node (win7) 8. open Bohemia Interactive Studio 9. open ArmA 2 OA 10. On the right hand side of the window, double click the file that says KEY. Those 15 pairs of numbers and letters are your character specific key. This determines which character is being loaded when you start your OA. 11. Write down the key. Only the 15 pairs. ----------------------------------------------------- Now you will need to buy another copy of the Operation Arrowhead, so you will get another key for your other character. You can install that copy either by A ) Installing it under a different windows user on the same computer B ) Installing it on a different computer. After you have done either, repeat the 11 steps above. ----------------------------------------------------- When you have both keys written down: 12. Open notepad 13. Copy paste this in to the notepad: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA] "KEY"=hex:XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX 14. Replace the 15 XX pairs with either key you wrote down. 15. Save the file as 16. Save as type "all files" 17. name your file mycharactername.reg ----------------------------------------------------- Repeat steps 12-17 but use the other key code you got from the other Operation Arrowhead. ----------------------------------------------------- To play both characters at the same time: 18. double click either of the .reg files you just made. Hit ok and see if it says the changes have been successfully added to the registry. 19. Boot up operation arrowhead. 20. Get on a server. 21. Press esc. 22. Alt + tab out of the game to the desktop 23. right click the other .reg file you made. Check if it says the registry was successfully updated like last time. 24. Boot up another instance of operation arrowhead so that you have 2 open. 25. Get on a server. 26. Alt + tab between 2 characters! If something's fucked up, try using REGEDIT5 in the start of the file instead. Try running the reg files as administrator oor... use google! That's what I did :D

DMR is more common than M24?
Daddy'o (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
M24 has zeroing and is 1 hit 1 kill. DMR doesn't have zeroing and is 2 hit to kill. I'll take the m24 over the DMR any day. -
What's the difference in difficulty levels?
Daddy'o (DayZ) replied to mccullxch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
regular expert and veteran designations are only for a sense, and nothing solid. Ultimately each server admin decides which aids to enable and disable. Normally a regular server would have: + Player names and distance to target (tags) + 3rd person view + Crosshair + Shift click map markers An expert server would have: + 3rd person + Shift click map markers and Veteran none of the above. But as stated, each server admin decides which to enable and disable. -

This is an alpha mod that is being tested by a vast 500,000 strong base of free-will testers. A tester does not get annoyed by changes to the build and he does not whine about the direction the build is moving toward. He only proceeds to test and report problems with the build. When the game is in beta phase, players are allowed to play the mod to iron out the remaining bugs and do the final stress testing. When the game exits beta phase and the first release is made, then players get to whine about issues and direction or lack of. Then they are reminded they are in fact playing a free mod someone used their own personal time to make for everyone else's enjoyment and that they should really not be whining at all. -
Forum account with ' didn't get through and isn't on the affected list
Daddy'o (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
My previous Forum account was titled Daddy'o, and I checked the affected username lists and it wasn't there. I did a search multiple times. Trying to use the name when logging in results in bad username or password. Trying to register with the same name results in username already taken. Trying to get password retrieved results in no such username found. So you guys obviously got my username in some table, but apparently not in all of them. Can this be fixed by any chance? I was looking for a more direct way to contact but didn't find any :( Help? -

Still would like some help from a forum administrator if possible :( -
You can make a .reg file using the notepad. File looks like this: REGEDIT4 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA] "KEY"=hex:XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX,XX you can find your OA key from that same path using regedit. Just make 2 of these .reg files and put the other key in the other one, and the other in the other. Replace the Xs. It's a always a 15 pair code. After that you can double click either .reg file and it will replace the key. Have fun.

That's exactly what I did, several times :) No one would have the tenacity to manually browse through the list :D -
I've been dual boxing for some time now, so it's completely possible. At first I bought the second Operation Arrowhead thinking I'll just use the character as a super safe storage mule. But then I tested out actually dual boxing the accounts and I'm happy to say I can run both at the same time with good settings at 45 fps. I can alternate between the clients by simply alt-tabbing. I can tell ya, being able to over watch yourself with an AS50 and L85A2 from 700 meters away while you loot with your other toon seriously makes a difference. Not only that but I'm able to use the other character for group play when my mates are online and the other for solo play when they aren't, so it's pretty sweet. Setting it up on the same computer and same windows user is certainly possible and quite easy at that, but you'll have to know what to do. There's a registry key in the windows registry that is stored when you boot up OA. That key defines which character or rather which copy of the OA is loaded. By alternating between these 2 keys using a single double click shortcut on my desktop I can change the key with no trouble. After booting both clients with seperate keys I can switch and hop servers no problem and use both characters at the same time just as long as I don't exit either client. Completely doable, easy and efficient :)
