Perma death improvement (SAFE HOUSE IDEA)
Kiro (DayZ) replied to death665522's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Why do you even play DayZ? Why do you play a permadeath game and then ask for it to be removed? Do you go to McDonald's and ask them to remove hamburgers from their menu? -
We need some form of law, and a place to post bounty's.
Kiro (DayZ) replied to blynx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Impossible, anyone can change his name at any time. Hopefully they'll find a way to fix that. And I don't think we can know the same of our murderer. Does it appear somewhere? I never noticed it. -
That's happening right now: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/39159-event-freeside-trading-co-open-trading-720-722/ A clan organizes a safe trading zone, with guards to protect everyone, and all players have to drop their weapon before they can enter. But almost everytime some hackers kill them. I hope it'll get fixed soon, I want to be a guard and defend the place, but with hackers that's a lost cause.

Did you ever play Eve Online? In this game you can attack and destroy a clan's base that took months to build. You can do that on some Minecraft servers too. That's full PvP, that's fun, there's no other reason.
-
That goes completely against the spirit of the game. Betrayal and banditry are a big part of DayZ and one of the reason it's so exciting. Why don't you simply suggest creating a safe zone for trading? (something that the creator of the game dislikes and will never put in DayZ)

Sins of a hacking gamer...
Kiro (DayZ) replied to DigitGreen (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tl;dr: he cheated in DayZ, got banned, he's now full of regrets. -
Calm down. It's an alpha, they'll find a way to prevent hacking.

Zombies? What zombies? This is pure PvP.
Kiro (DayZ) replied to AzinGaming's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Zombies are too easy? Solution: remove them from the game. Dude. Seriously? -
Warning thread: look here before picking a server
Kiro (DayZ) replied to Disgraced's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Wait wtf. What's the difference between your "list" and a cheat report on this forum? You want to make a short-term hacking report thing, but that's exactly what this forum is about. -
Cheat report section. Next time take a screenshot and post it there.
-
FYI, there are hacks to see the position of tents and vehicles on the maps, but apparently they don't work anymore in the last beta patch. So it could be hackers who destroyed your camp. Alex988, what's wrong with you? Do you think cheating in DayZ is alright? Can't we complain about it?
-
hackers ruined it for me, such a shame
Kiro (DayZ) replied to satanicgamers's topic in New Player Discussion
No. There are some real "hacks" that teleport players, instakill everyone, god modes, spawn vehicles and weapons... If you get killed twice a day by hackers, I don't think it's possible to appreciate the mod... -
No, that's not what happened. How could he know you were going to login at this moment and this place? He was walking around and you spawned next to him, that's just extremely bad luck. Sometimes, you spawn next to someone who didn't see you and you can kill him. It happened to me in the wood, in the middle of nowhere. I connected, heard a tractor and killed the driver in one bullet. This time he was very unlucky that I spawned next to him. At least you didn't get killed by hackers or disconnect abusers!

In Grand Theft Auto almost every players kill people for no reason. I guess they're all psycho murderers.
-
I haven't played Eve for many years, but don't you level up your skills even when offline? You just need to log-in to chose a new skill to level-up right? So it can take 5 minutes every day :/ How does it rewards no-lifes? Well maybe we could just chose 1 skill at character creation, and that's it. So they're just different classes, each with 1 skill (healing, car repair, base building, fishing...) and you couldn't level up this skill? That way there's no difference between no-lifes and casual in term of skills. That'd sure force cooperative play.
-
Apparently he changed his mind. In his lastest interview he said he'll try implementing random skills to players to increase teamwork. If you need other players you're not going to shot them. I hope it won't be possible to farm for skills and just stand in your base healing and shoting at someone to increase your healing skill :/ A Eve Online model would be cool, ie you could increase your skill automatically, even when you're logged out.

Warning thread: look here before picking a server
Kiro (DayZ) replied to Disgraced's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
A hacker killed everyone last night on DE 246. Now what? People should stop going on this server? I don't understand the point of this thread. At first I thought there was a way to protect your server against hackers, in which case a list of unprotected servers would be useful. BUT if there's no way to protect your server, then they can be anywhere, no server is safe. EVERY server should be on the list then, because there has been a hacker on every server at least once. -
FPS help and Post Processing
Kiro (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Defrag. I went from 15 FPS to 30 FPS, just by defragmenting my hard drive. And do this: http://pastebin.com/BiSnmAj7 In the options, HUD size and 3D resolution need to be the same. Memory must be set to default, NOT on high. If it's too dark, increase gamma and luminosity. To see at night, set HDR to High. -
How could i make DayZ run faster???

The creator of the game disagrees, watch this interview: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/40626-rocket-interview-with-sidestrafe/

Not giving a buff to someone because he kills other survivors IS a punishment. That's like not giving candies to a kid because he got bad grades in school. I didn't say you want to get rid of PvP, but that you want to punish it. You say you want to give players a choice, and yet this choice must be influenced by a reward? We already have a choice, a moral choice that the player has to do, and WE have to do it. The game doesn't tell us to kill or not to kill, only the players interactions do. If this system is introduced, the game will tell us not to kill if we want a reward. And giving a buff for not killing players is not realistic. Why are my guns magically doing more damages? Why did a uniform just appear from nowhere? Oh, right, because my ratio is lower than bandits. Watch this interview: http://dayzmod.com/f...fe/#entry387195 Rocket repeats again and again that PvP is awesome and doesn't want to prevent it with fake systems that aren't players-driven (ie moral or depression systems).
-
Great interview with very interesting questions and answers. If he keeps going in this direction, this game will become the best game ever created. 1. He doesn't want to add fake "psychological" effects from killing other players. So no "depression" effect, no character becoming insane. 2. He thinks the main goal once you master the game is to hunt other survivors. He doesn't want to prevent any form of PvP. 3. He wants to add groups mechanics and bases building options. He thinks group spawn changes the balance of permadeath (if you can always respawn next to your friends the game will be extremely easy) and so he wants the game to be harsher. 4. He doesn't want a solo mode, as it's always been done thousands of time (Left 4 Dead, other zombies mods for Arma 2). He wants to do something that people always wanted: a multiplayer survival experience, and he has to focus on this player-driven open world. 5. The importance of the narrative: the world needs to make sense to the players. The narrative won't be forced down your throat but rather appears as you play. He doesn't want to give you a cop uniform and tell you "You're a cop"; rather you have to become the character that you want to be. 6. Death should be extremely traumatic. The game isn't as hard now as he wants it to be, death should be a greater penalty. 7. He talked about giving some players special skills that could be given to people randomly, like "special kind of healing", that'd give more opportunity for cooperation and people wouldn't shot on sight as much because they could need each others. 8. "The senseless killing is part of what makes DayZ magic and so terrifying.". Talking about the insane axe-muderer who run around killing new players for no reason : "It's what makes the mod so compelling, the fact that you can do that. That's why I'm so reluctant to change these elements because that's the magic of it. [...] So we have to be very careful with any penalty or deterrence we'd apply [to PvP]." 9. He admits there's a problem with noob killing, BUT he repeats again that penalties for player killing is a bad idea. The solution is to give to the players more options, to dig underground bases and giving players some specialized skills. That way, once you reach the "end game", you can either spend some time killing new players, OR getting serious and building something that makes sense. 10. Server capacity: his ideal would be to have Eve Online size server, thousands of players on the same server. Now the servers do a lot of stuff that is needed to run a realistic military simulator, and these parts could be removed and we could "cut the middle man and send the data directly to the main server", so it's not out of the realm of possibility to have huge servers. Previously servers could only have 50 slots, now they can have 100 slots, so there's already improvement, and we could see 200-players servers. 11. When Rocket plays the game, he always play with a team, purely cooperative, and killed only 1 player since he released it and still feels guilty about it. He prefers running around helping people.

No. It's a full PvP game, punishing PvP doesn't make any sense. Getting killed and killing players is what makes the game exciting.
