have the box open and listen... the ONLY moving parts in a computer are fans and hard drive (also CD/DVD drives but for obvious reasons don't need mentioned)... no moving parts (by definition) in a SSHD. Any how, its going to be one of your fans, case fan, CPU fan, or PSU fan. We can not completely rule out PSU as 'brand new outta the box' means absolutely jack sh*t. That said, prolly a case fan or CPU fan... actually troubleshoot a problem before you start throwing money around. EDIT: in all honesty, you'll be hard pressed to hear let alone be annoyed by 'coil hum' from a PC PSU.

"persistent" in this context means "stays after server reset". Absolutely NO, tents (or any other 'persistent' storage device) will not carry over from one server to another... Example, you set up a tent on one server, and the tent has say 20 item slots. You can 'store' things, beans, bandages, ammo etc in the tent, and those items will stay safe (from server restart) not in your personal inventory. EDIT for clarification

I found one yesterday in Zelenogorsk (or however you spell it) barracks... north of Kamenka. That was from a trek from fresh spawn north of Berezino, across the northern map, NWAF, the two military bases north west, and more west of Cherno, and finally over to Zele... it was way under a bunk, and I would have missed it except I hit z when I was going for x, after a c to get loot off the top bunk, and seen it when prone. TLDR? They are spawning... quick scans in the barracks will not do... gotta look way under the bunks B)

Find a large building and jump off. Really. Ive been there before, all geared up, and scared to walk around as a high value target.

until what implementation starts? You do know that for all intents and purposes we are playing on the 'new' engine right now? That its not so much a new engine, but a rework of the old engine...

the 'post processing' provides the visual ques of your health. e.g. if you have post processing on the screen will get progressively worse the more your overall health deteriorates. I play with it on, until the times where I am really bad off and cant see anything. The 'best' graphics (with post processing on) are when you are healthy energized and hydrated bright green. As a new spawn you are none of those, so you dont get the 'best' graphics to start.

I know it can be difficult, however, you must realize, you are only "testing" a build. NOTHING you test is for your benefit per se. The actual (and most important) "Testing" is being done by the dev's. We the 'alpha testers' are simply working the code. The 'answers' for the 'tests' come from both the data collected (at weekly maintenance) and from 'feedback'. Without 'us' playing the game with all the 'game breaking' bugs and giving feedback the dev's have a much more difficult time. Thats what our jobs are...

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
BelMarduk replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
or maybe the 'alphaness' of the game is seen as bugs/desync/lag etc by 'veteran' players, while new players think its all hackers and cheaters? -
How Did They Know My Player Name?
BelMarduk replied to Nastradamus87's topic in New Player Discussion
how many people were on the server? if it was low pop, you might have been the only one *not* in his 'group'... hitting 'p' will bring up the player list, and well if the list is short, then its simple deduction... -
I don't PoS, however, I dont allow myself to be too far outside 'fist range' when I come close to other players... A have way more fear of someone with an axe than someone with any gun... as long as I am close enough B)

Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557
BelMarduk replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
again, from our point of view (we the gamers) the term 'test' is somewhat accurate. We are 'testing' a 'broken' alpher game. However, the term "test" in "alpher test" what we do is NOT the 'testing' that is alpher testing. Like I pointed out in the post you're referencing, the dev's are running the tests, they need the data on what changes they make/content added etc that we work the mechanics of. That data is of zero use to us, yet hugely important to the devs. We are workers/players NOT testers... as per the 'reason' tests need done in alpher. -
Rolling Changelog: Stable Branch: 0.32.114557
BelMarduk replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
because you (we) are not testing anything. The devs are doing the 'tests' we are just playing the game for the sake of data collection, the data THEY need (along with our feedback) to progress the game through alpher... -

How can I make a armored vehicle in DayZ mod?
BelMarduk replied to golomer's topic in New Player Discussion
vanilla dayz mod, you can not. There is a mod of the mod Origins, There is some ability to armor vehicles. Epoch has some ability to add weapons to some vehicles. -
well, first we need to define the parameters of server hopping. Server hopping to ghost, or otherwise meta-game a contact/conflict scenario is just plain cheating (which is what the devs are looking to fix). Server hopping to gear up on the other hand, I believe at this point in the alpher is completely acceptable. Later on when loot tables/ loot respawn works? maybe not so much. Right now, a person logging in to a server 30 minutes before server restart is at a markedly huge disadvantage to a person that logged in 5 minutes after restart. As loot does not respawn (as it did in the MOD, upon the player entering the area), there is no mechanism for all players having equal chance to find loot. Server hopping is the only mitigation to that overwhelming stripping of base game equity/equality.

give it time, realize that there are three levels of things going on with the devs... First monitoring whats been released, analyzing that data. Thats what we play and they test. Second, the known bugs and the bugs we find... Thats 'us' griping about bugs and content suggestions. Third, what they are planning on putting in. Thats them changing priorities based on first and second and what the data says. Now all three of these things are separate, yet flow together... Separate as much as our perspective of only getting the 'released' part. in other words... ALPHER.

replacing battleye with some other anti cheat program
BelMarduk replied to hattukauppias's topic in Suggestions
well, why dont you contact steam, and find out the IP address that was using your account at the times in question (while you were sleeping). BE is (at this point) absolutely correct in their actions. Of course they wouldn't tell you anything, nor would it be a good idea in any *legit* world to act any differently. Have steam support find out who was using your account... Now this is giving you the benefit of the doubt. All your credibility will be lost if you do not update this thread, and your points all rendered invalid, and be forever labeled as a scriptkiddie if you do not post here those communications with steam... -
Sure will, you won't be disconnected from the server until the timeout, once the server knows there is a server timeout, it checks against the 'rules' for the timer, if in combat, or near another player, the server keeps the toon there and alive for no less than 30 seconds (after server gets the client time out), but as much as 40 seconds. It works.
-
I really think what was done in the MOD is about the best 'solution'. A 10 second 'logout' timer. When you hit 'escape' a timer starts counts down from 10 before you can press 'abort'. coupled with a 'combat' timer, cant logout if a bullet came 'x' meters around you. If you're being fired upon you can't log out. Not sure if its in 'vanilla' MOD, but Origins had a 'logout dance' where if you logged out near another player, your toon hangs out and dances a jig for like 30 seconds. None of these things cause any issues if you log out legit, but pretty much ensure your death at the hands of your prognosticator if you log out by any form in any hostile/combat situation.

Yes, it can be done, I think fishing is in 'Epoch' MOD. I also think Rocket said fishing will eventually make it in.

As you really seem to not understand just whats going on in an 'alpher' test, or literary tools for that matter... I will try to explain. First, analogy is used to represent a point/counter point. Generally speaking you can not draw exact lines between analogy and the original topic. Analogy is used to show a like perspective, thats it. That said. As per 'ALPHA TEST', we the players ARE NOT TESTING, we are simply 'working the mechanics' of the game. The DEVS ARE THE ONES TESTING. As the DEVS are the ones actually running/performing the tests, they make the rules for the test. *period*. Now, with those very very important points out of the way, lets look at the most obvious problem with breaking this specific rule, of NO PvP only servers. Say we allow these servers, whats to stop someone that LOVES PvP joins a PvE only server, knows that he can now loot with impunity, gain all his pristine gear, then server hop to a 'PvP' server to have his way. The most readily apparent thing is that guy just exploited a carebear server to gain advantage on a PvP server. Whats maybe lost, and not so apparent is the data the devs are looking for (loot tables/loot distribution data) is now very skewed (just one 'problem' among many off the top of my head). We, here, now, are NOT here so much as to 'have an enjoyable gaming experience', thats for post beta release. Right now our 'jobs' are to work a clunky/buggy/sometimes almost unplayable game for the benefit of the DEV ALPHER TEST.

you are a special kind of stupid aren't you? I mean really? honestly?

Add "quests" (not quests...ummm opportunities)
BelMarduk replied to Randy_Pie's topic in Suggestions
ummmm, no 'explicit' quests. DayZ's wonderment is that it is 100% sandbox. There is only one quest that is needed in DayZ, and its already here. SURVIVE. Every action in DayZ is a subquest to that ultimate quest. It is a 'quest' to find food, find water, find a weapon (or two) and ammo for that weapon. The more items/crafting added to the game will add more flavor and color to that quest. We make our own 'quests'. Not to sound flippant, but if you want 'quests' that others design for you to play a nice canned scenario WoW, DayZ lets you walk your 'quest' however you wish, nothing 'canned' save the beans... and spaghetti, and sardines and.... -
Can admins kick you for suspected server hopping/ghosting?
BelMarduk replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
No, report the server as violating the rules of public server hive hosting. It is not up to the server admin (at this point in the alpher) to be making decisions of who's hopping or not. Remember folks WE ARE NOT NOT NOT 'testing'. We re working the mechanics of the game, the DEVS ARE RUNNING THE TESTS. They can not adequately 'test', get the data THEY are looking for to make the game as good as they can, if 'random' people decide for themselves to go against the rules the devs set up for THEIR tests.
