. I like the idea of base building, I think I have an idea that could make it work. The two DayZ building systems I am familiar with are Epoch and Origins. Either way (I like Epoch myself) I really think some form of base building is important. Upon completing the 'doors' (final step of 'enclosing' an area with a lock) and have a lock you get a key. The magic-ness of the key is this. As long as you are alive, your 'base' is 'indestructible' and the lock can not be broken (adds real importance to keeping your guy alive). Once you die however, the lock can be broken and contents easily raided. The key can be scavenged from the survivor/hero/bandits body and will allow instant access to said lock. Have construction need 'maintenance' if the 'original' owner gets killed. Construction 'deteriorates' and is wiped from the server on day 7 without (or orig builder does not login to server). Have a mechanic that if the key is used, the clock resets to 14 days, so if IRL things come up, give the key to a mate. Either way, if the 'original owner' doesn't at least log-in for 14 days, construction gets cleaned. There would have to be some sort of mechanic to keep griefing to a minimum. 30m plot pole comes to mind (Epoch), non 'locked' walls deteriorate in just 3 days? Just a few ideas...

OK, The DDoS'g of bohemia will not have any affect on your server, other than maybe Battleye not catching anything straight off. Therefore you can stop looking there, The issue is in your server files (I know not which ones) but what is needed is a complete clean install I would imagine. The server got hacked (your account specifically) and the hackers changed setup files.

If you cant get into your server controls, I would guess your account with your service provider has been compromised. Take appropriate actions.

ARMAII OA / DayZ Crash on Start Up
BelMarduk replied to lugerman's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
ummm, may sound silly here but... To launch the mod you have to add things to the shortcut. the ...mod=@dayz etc... depending how you historically launched Arma II to run Dayz in the past may be causing you issues. Without knowing exactly what steps you have done I would suggest complete uninstall, manually confirm that ALL shortcuts etc are removed. Re-install Arma II and updates (launch and ensure it works), use (as you have) dayzcommander to install mods. one at a time. Oh, one more thing. You mentioned Origins (I like that mod) I do remember having issues after I installed Origins (some time back) Cant remember exactly what issues I was having (crashes on loading, when launching from DayzCommander) but the nuances of the crashes escape me. Anyhow, clicking 'clear cache' in DayzCommander under ALL the mods you have installed (and have the cache button to click) seemed to solve that problem. -
I am fairly certain rocket was in 'god mode' in the (most all the) video(s). I think there will not be a casual gaming bone any where in the SA. I did however see rocket in those zambies, remember the MOCAP videos from way a long time ago (good times)? I remember rocket doing those attack jumps with those silly little balls tapped to his forehead:) BTW Tuesday is the alpha release. How do I know? Easy, Tuesday (the 19th) is my birthday and rocket will give me SA for my birthday. You heard it here first.

It actually does make sense. First you don't spawn in at the very start of the outbreak. Second, remember, the armory has already been looted (concept why there arn't 100's of every gun in the armory (barracks) every time you go there?) Who looted it? That one room with alot of prize loot in the top corner appt, or the bedroom of the farmhouse, may have belonged to some guy that made a good run to the armory before it was cleaned out, made it back home, then succumbed to the infection... What Im saying is good loot should be able to be found anywhere (yes indeed cans of beans are more likely to be found in a kitchen cupboard than a fire station floor... I get the 'chances slim to none'). Probably not going to find engine parts (or SA equivalent) in a downtown apartment building, but a 'high tier weapon' sure.

Quick status update for week 8 November
BelMarduk replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
I would say without a doubt in the mod ping, whereas in the SA server fps (although always ping is important). Whats irrelevant is making a comparison between sa and mod server fps rates. -
Dude, are you kidding me? Your apology is what you think is important? ok, to soothe your aching conscience... I officially accept 'your' apology. Thing is, I doubt you guys know exactly what the words "I'm sorry" actually mean. Let me clue you in. Im sorry has three parts to its meaning, "I have wronged you, I understand how I have wronged you, and will do my best to never wrong you again". Although I believe you meet the first two parts of that (you know it was wrong and why), I fear that the latter part will never be met (you're immature kiddies incapable of not cheating as long as you have access to the tools). Question, is your friend still Admin of the server? Is you friend still an alcoholic? Will your friend grief other new spawns next time he has a beer or two? Will you and your friends continue to cheat all your gear? Why did you guys waste the money on renting a server when you could have just loaded up Armex? I mean really? One by one answer the questions, honestly, and after you read the answers, ask yourself one more question. "Is this really how a good popular server is ran?" EDIT: HA just looked at the graphic for the server again... "NO CHEATING" and "RESPECT ADMIN" bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

quite trying to make your replies sound like what happened less than what it was. It was admin abuse/cheating period. Quit wording your replies to make it sound different than that. He never offered me a ride. He cheated the heli in (or at least cheated it fixed/fueled) then he cheated to know exactly where I was at (only 4 people on the server, three of you and me). Then he flew directly to me and shot me. When I was like WTF in side chat one of 'you' (one of the three on the server, dont remember names) was like "He's in ts, he's really sorry' and I was all like 'Im butt-hurt, and going to tell DayZmod forums on you'. and then you guys were like 'don't, he's sorry', and I was all like "Im too butt-hurt for that, the masses must be warned!" and the last thing I remember reading from you guys was something to the affect "You do realize he is offering you a ride" (in a cheated in heli I might add)... ooohhhh I get to ride in a cheated in heli! woohoo! Again, only points that need to be taken about this server is this, cheating abusing admins run it, 12 yr old 1337 haxor script kiddiez with access to moms credit card will great you down on the coast...
-
wasnt ai that shot me, was admin. admitted in side chat. I viewed 'admin fixed/refueled vehicle'. All of a sudden heli over me, At that point I knew what was up, and I typed something like yah yah lol in side chat, then I get sprayed. Dont mind the combat royal with all the extra buildings and such as long as no one is cheating. Simply, if you want to play with 12 yr old kids, that talked mom into renting a server for a month this is the server for you!
-
Really don't bother. Joined the server to check it out, see messages about admin repairing/refueling a vehicle, then two minutes later heli flies in and shoots me... ha ha ha, very funny, he's so sorry about that, let me give you a ride... absolute fluff of map mods (added buildings and such), cheating/abusing admin.

ummm, that would be lag would it not? hence the rubber banding zombies and them glitching through walls. -
I, and I would make a bet many other people wouldn't play the game if first person were forced. Not a QQ, just a simple fact. I do not like 1st person, and choose not to play forced 1st person shooters. The simplest way to "fix" the meta gaming advantage of 'seeing' over walls/around corners is to force a LOS rendering. What I mean is this. If you are on one side of a wall, and I on the other, because there is no Line Of Sight from me to you, I would not see you over the wall. I could keep my third person perspective, and you are saved from my 'cheating' by 'seeing' you over the wall.

I very much doubt Rocket is paid hourly... Prolly salary with a %.

I really do not play vanilla DayZ much any more. I have been recently playing Epoch. Obviously I have been playing private hives. I bought Arma II the 4th of May, 2012 specifically for DayZ mod. I have but one issue with public hive concept. Meta gaming/server hopping. That's huge IMHO. I don't however think that's a bigger problem than of your private server going down (and all your time into 'random dayz spawn number x^23'). I think it will come down to exactly what the public hive policies are, specifically when persistent base building is implemented.

But Fraggle, the topic is "October Roundup..." Its now November... The roundup of October has been discussed to where nothing even remains of the horse. I think the thing I am going to miss the most in the zombie apocalypse are peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

From looking at the earth from top (north) down it would appear to turn counter clockwise. Therefor the new day will always start 'east' of you. There two kep meridians (those north/south lines on the globe) the IDL "International date line" and the PM "prime meridian" IDL kinda splits the pacific ocean, where as the PM splits Greenwhich. There are other "PM's" as there is no reason why they can not be arbitrary, however the Greenwich PM is the meridian used to set clocks (every time is based on UTC or Greenwich mean time). Traveling east is always going 'forward in time' and heading west is always going 'back in time' (really only turning clocks forward/backward no actual time travel) Thats what 'jet lag' is all about.

what? I mean the Nov 1st part here is right, but the part about being the 2nd in the west... what? That said, Yah, Oct is over...

*mental exercise to follow* Think about Minecraft (as that's the poster-boy game of 'alpha release' or 'Minecraft model'... Notch paved the way for the concept). Its hard to imagine if you bought Minecraft a while ago, or even at first release. Where the game was back then (Ive been playing Minecraft for about 2 years now myself). Where it was then to where it is now. If you were to take someone that just today bought into Minecraft and starts playing it. Then throw them into say a release of 18 months ago. Things you see as staple items, today didnt exist 'then', like "The End", emeralds, fireworks, them light towers, carrots to steer pigs to make them saddles useful etc. Thats what an 'alpha release' is. Thats what the 'Minecraft model' is. Sure DayZ SA is not Minecraft, but is being released under that development model. That model is what it is. Release a fundamentally working piece of software, add to and enhance it over time until it becomes a fully functional, fully robust piece of software. Minecraft is how old, and still being worked on? I see SA being very bare when first released. Many glitches, and much frustration. Over the course of the next year or so after release however I expect to see vast amounts of fixes, content, and hours/days/months/years of enjoyment from the initial low price of getting in for a 'maybe-no-threat-zombie-few-weapon-glitchy-crafting-system-three-style-motorbike-helmet-headgear-holy-crap-this-sucks' alpha release. TL;DR tuff go back and read it if you don't understand what 'alpha' release means.
