    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

*snip* You seem not to understand our jobs as a 'alpher testers'. No one here playing the game is testing anything, we are simply playing a game. The 'Team Rocket' is doing the testing. They are compiling data, reading bug reports, changing parameters, tweaking etc. THEY are the ones running tests, we are just running the rat maze. Seemingly fine line nuance there, but the difference is as wide as Chanarus.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

no, absolutely wrong. First and for most, this is alpher. That means that things get added, things get tweaked, things get removed (wash rinse repeat) etc. If you're restrained, and you log, it should be a death sentence... e.g. you decided you just couldn't take it any more and really got the 'easy way out'. Same if you are unconscious. That said, I have to go back to my first statement. I believe that the logging due to unconsciousness, (which may or may not be tied to being restrained) was causing issues with the hive. The immediate fix was to just kill the character that's passed out if he dc's. I doubt it is a 'punishment', just an alpher hot fix. I would however like to think that dc's of restrained people is (or at least should be) a punishment. To answer directly "What is wrong with getting away from the game and come back whenever you have the time"... when you are restrained and you log out, are those accosting you (and making that particular DayZ scenario that you are a part of) going to be waiting for you to que back up into position "whenever you have the time"? No, so yes, you should be punished for logging and taking the experience away from other players because you didn't like the situation you found yourself in.
  3. Hogwash. Its kind of hard to come up with anything right now, as not all dynamics are known. That said, there are a myriad of reasons for the need to server hop, specially in the current builds. Until loot starts to dynamically respawn, and/or all loot spawns correctly, server hopping many times is the ONLY way to survive. I have died three times of starvation (not thirst, there's water in every town) because ZERO food as its already been looted, over a number of servers. Another issue is ping kicked/battle eye not responding kicks (yes I know BE is not going to 'protect' SA, but if vac or whatever can do random kicks...), ALPHER game crashing (Ive had the game crash at least 6 times), or whatever other reason, can not necessarily be differentiated from an alt-F4 or a meditation to server hop. There can not be any punishment for disconnecting and reconnecting to whatever server, aside from a logout timer, and your (very vulnerable) avatar remaining for a period of time (if a player, or zombie is within 'x' number of meters). Both of which I very much agree with having.

no, you're supposed to play the game to find and report bugs, not rant on and on about how they (the bugs) suck for you. If you do indeed find any enjoyment in playing the ALPHER, that is simply and only beans to go with the tuna. Thats what alpher testing is all about.

    Possible FPS Enhancer

I have a copy on 116 cassette tapes (with the steam launcher on 198 floppies). Page me, and Ill mail them to you  like legit, I still have my 64 boxed up in my closet. One of the first times I heard Rocket speak and he said one of his fav games was Elite (one of the greatest games ever made and on the C64), That's when he garnered all the cool points in the world. I think DayZ is the only game I have more hours in...

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

What you were talking about is your va-jay-jay being all in a knot about your character being killed and needing to fresh spawn when you log out unconscious and re-log in. Your assumption that is to punish combat loggers and that you as a casual player think that just plain sux QQ. Now, my reply is completely accurate. You will experience many many deaths by virtue of it being alpher, and probable more deaths due to server wipes (we have had one already). So yah, I stand by what I said, because your 'feedback' is a bent va-jay-jay complaint about a current feature NOT A BUG. Now, go sniff some glue.

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

ALPHA. ALPHER! Expect 100's of player wipes over the next year. Its not about punishing combat loggers, its about having a 'congruent unconscious timer'. I (making wild guesses here) think its something like the knock out system needs to be fixed, yet can not be specifically addressed here. The hive would keep track that you were passed out (for whatever reason), and if you log out would not know how to properly 'knock you out' and make you unconscious for some long indefinite period of time when you log back in. Since now you can now properly take damage while unconscious, the ONLY 'legit' logging from being unconscious would be due to a bug/glitch. Either way, there is no really valid argument to be all butt-hurt that you are killed and fresh spawned if you log out while unconscious. Besides, as the system is indeed broken, and we are all ALPHER testers, testing the mechanics of the game...

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113860

the harder you run, the more you need to drink. If you crouch run without a weapon in your hand, you can run almost as long as you could in the MOD before really needing to drink (no quite, but ...). You really have to drink 4-5 times more by running full speed with something in your hands.

Servers not showing and waiting for host

I agree, and you got my beans... best bug I have seen so far (Rocket mentioned it in his stream, so I never reported it), putting on hiking boots with black cargo pants (dunno about other combo's, this was the one I found). Your feet (the boots) are a few inches behind the cuffs of the pants when running...

Servers not showing and waiting for host

so this post is relevant how exactly?

Servers not showing and waiting for host

Something to think about. When you join a server and all is good, the client will 'remember' that server and connect you to the same server next time. When you are in the server menu looking to join a server (and here's where my point comes in), if you try to join a 'full' server, or a server thats almost full (or looks almost full, but really is) I think you get put into a que. You will get 'waiting for host' for an extended period of time, until a slot opens for you. I know this is not the exact issue of OP, but it can seem very similar.

    Help for a beginner

yes there are maps, you find them much as you did in the mods. Progress should stay across all servers. There is an (alpher) issue with character sync however where thats not always the case. As for the broken leg, as of now, I really do not know. Haven't broken my leg yet, nor seen all the medical loot to even guess. I am sure however, that yes, if you can break your leg, there will be a mechanic to fix it.

    KABOOM!!!

all in all, I love this! Team speak and other ways of meta-gaming detract for the 'true survival' aspect of the game. Using TS against users of TS (or whatever meta gaming device used) is absolute brilliance! (IMHO). keep it up LHE!

More games coming out like DayZ

Im guessing yo weren't here a year and a half ago. The 'birth' (or should I say gestation) was a complete unplanned pregnancy (to follow with the analogy. DayZ MOD wasn't planned to be the success it was, a pleasant mistake (I started playing April before last, when it took 20-25 minutes just to connect to a server, and everyone had 6 AS50's in their tents... but I digress). The popularity of the MOD was so great that a SA version was planned. The SA (at that time) was really only going to be a polished mod. The circumstances of the decision to make the SA were always public. Even before a SA really became its own entity.
  16. I also use a coin, rather a stack of coins and a zippo lighter for weight. A small coin can be used to hold the "w" key down as an 'auto-run' feature =D I think this is whats referenced.

  18. I awoke to the water lapping on my face. I'm not sure how long I was out. As a matter of fact I am not sure of many things. I remember boarding the The Queens Rose luxury liner with my loving wife Karen. I took ill, food poisoning I think, and spent some days in the infirmary aboard that ship. That was sometime last April, the leaves are starting to change color, where am I and when is this? Exactly how I got on this beach, I have no Idea. The beauty of the beach, the calm serenity is eerily beautiful. No time to waste, might as well figure out where I am at. Running along the lonely beach thoughts meander through my head. "Will I make friends with a soccer ball" I chuckle to myself. I don't have a soccer ball. These silly thoughts I've used to pass the time running are replaced by a great sense of joy at the sights of cranes rising above the horizon. The rumbling in my stomach doesn't bother me so much as I see civilization. Happy days! As I approach the city, I see some locals meandering in a field by a barn. I hope they have a phone I can use I think to myself as I walk towards them. Thats when It started to hit me. The rank putrid smell hanging in the air. The noises they made, oh god the noises they made. I ran. I seen a small open garage, what luck. I can find shelter within. I duck inside and quickly close the door. I hear that guy outside banging on the door. Bath salts, drugs? I remember reading something about people going crazy on drugs. I find a few pieces of metal, some car parts, an old hunting knife, a can of beans, and an axe. The door smashes down and the crazy man bursts in. I tried to reason with him. I tried. He would not listen. He tried to bite me, honest. I had to do it, I had to swing the axe. The broadside of the axe knocked the man aside. I heard the crunch of his arm and shoulder shattering. He didn't make a sound aside from the shrieks and moans he had been making. His onslaught never stopped, I had to swing again. The axe sunk into his side, yet he is still grabbing for me. I lunge forward and he falls down below me, I stomp on his head. He is quiet. I can't stop shaking. What is happening. I sit down on on a tool crate in the corner of the garage, to gather my whits. I hear more moaning and shrieking outside the garage, My mind is racing. I hear the pop of a gun off in the distance. Seems to have come from the direction of town. The moaning seems to be subsiding a bit, so I gain the courage to look out the window. *Pop* *Pop* more gunfire, much closer now. I look closer at the people I see, their skin, the same pale grey as this drug addict I had to defend myself from. What did this whole neighborhood have a bath salts party? What the hell is going on here? More gunfire, getting closer. I see a man running towards the beach, being chased by a whole crowd. Occasionally turning around to shoot one of them. 'Oh my god' I think to myself. Where are the police? There are three uniforms in the mob chasing the man. Why are they not shooting back? The man turns towards the crowd running backwards with his pistol raised. He must have been out of bullets because what I saw next was right out of some crazy horror movie. The mob swarmed this man and disemboweling him. I am sure I seen a few eat his entrails. I spend an hour holed up in the garage, watching, listening. I keep telling myself This can not be real. I hear sporadic gunfire off in the distance. The door behind be bursts open, A thought occurred to me some time later, when I reflected back on that first day (DayZ I call it, everything is so fucking backward in this world, The day my world ended). I wonder if I looked just as scared as he did. I almost took his head off with that axe. "Friendly, Friendly Friendly" he yelled. I swung hard at that thing chasing him. "Thank man, for not killing me", he says, trying to catch his breath. "I'm John, I think, I really can't remember" I greet him. "Dean" he replies extending his hand in friendship. "What the hell is going on"? I ask. He tells me the tale of the outbreak. The story of how NATO, Russian and Chinese attempts to contain the outbreak failed. The complete breakdown of governments, infrastructure, and society. "Look, there are three kinds kinds of people out there" he explains. "Killers, survivors, and those things. Although I don't think those things are still people" "What day is today?" I ask. "August 28th, I think" "Wait, I boarded a cruse liner in April for a 2 week holiday" I say in a low voice as I collapse back down onto the crate my head falling into my hands. "We can't stay here" Dean urges. "There is a Grocery store right up the coast in the city. We need to get some food and supplies and get out of this area." More gunfire, "Expect those bullets to be coming at you. That can of beans you have can mean the difference between life and death, and people will kill you for it" Dean and I made out way through Chernogorsk. We found supplies in the desolate city, food for a couple days. a change of cloths, a camping tent, and some weapons. Those 'things' are easily avoided, if you don't let them see or her you. "Last stop out of town is the hospital" Dean says, "Its just on the other side of that wall" The large factory we were in was scattered with machinery. "We need to come back here later" I say out loud. An hour later and we are in the tree line, our back packs full of supplies, and my first kill of a non infected man. It was in self defense. We hike through the woods in the dusky light when we come across a small lake. Where we pitch our tent for the night. Its been a very long day, surprising how fast I fell asleep. "wake up John" I hear the voice of my loving wife. The covers pulled up tight under my chin. "Wake up John" she says again, I feel the soft touch of her hand nudging me awake. I slide the covers down, swinging my legs off the bed. "Dear, I just had the strangest dream..." I start to tell my wife. "Wake up damn it!" its not Karen's voice, it is Dean. The crack of gunfire, and the shrieking of the infected rips me from my slumber. So starts Day 2... EDIT: suggested formatting.
  19. You can have whatever 'back story' you wish to assign your character. I actually took a month or so off of DayZ. I came back to play some Epoch (BRMF servers, they rock!). Got a couple hours in last night. There have always (to my recollection) been 'documents' that you can find, but (last I played) were limited to books, newspaper clippings (server obits) and plans for a ramp (least thats the only one I found previously). Last nights playing I found two documents that were 'fuel tank repair" and "vehicle upgrade" respectively. I have yet to use them, or know exactly what their function is. However (as I imagine how it works) I think this could be a very good 'skill set' system. Whatever your life before outbreak, we will just assume that everyone 'uninfected' has the ability to read and comprehend. The 'skills' you gain proficiency at come from loot/books. Today, I could fix just about any car to operable condition, however I couldn't put an IV in. Give me a book, and Ill get it figured out. Practice does not make perfect in any world, however perfect practice does. depending on the action a certain % is given to do the action correctly, reading a book you found on the subject greatly improves the chances of success. e,g, You shoot a cow 45 minutes after spawning. You gut it and get 4 pieces of meat. Looting in Cherno, you find a book in the grocery store "The Butchers Guide to the Proper Cuts of Meat". Now, all the animals you gut yield 50-75% more cuts (yes if you do not know how to butcher an animal, you will waste/loose that much if not more meat). e.g. #2, without a Chiltons manual, there is NO WAY you are going to repair that pick-up truck, sure you could figure out how to put a wheel on, but engine work? No. You shouldn't have any problems fixing the old bike up though. I do like the ides of the 'mini-game' like the GoW reload. Reload without playing the mini-game? reload takes 3 seconds, play the mini-game and nail it? reload in 1 second, fail it and it takes 6 seconds.
  20. you do realize that 'increased immunity' after you become infected(and subsequently cured) , well would be a 'hidden skill set' in and of itself.

Unable to play on any server!!!

    a) what do you use to launch DayZ? b) are you trying to launch vanilla DayZ or a mod? c) any errors? d) can you join a regular arma server? ... very descriptive problems gain quicker meaningful answers.
  22. If and only IF there is a differentiation between ping kicks, BE kicks etc, and a regular I'm changing servers disconnect.

Rocket, you can watch this video?

my understanding is a fully dynamic weather system is going to be in SA, might not be fully implemented on alpher release but...
