The thing that makes me lol the most, is the simple fact that when 1st person servers become available, just by sheer numbers of all the first person 'proponents', they (the 1st person servers) will still remain empty. bad_mojo said: "There's no risk & reward in third person view or being under the ground a foot. In real life, while you can hide better, you can't hide perfect, you have to expose yourself at least a bit to get a peak at something. In dayz, you risk nothing and see everything." but I bet dollars to doughnuts he will not frequent the first person only servers, nor will all the other 1st proponents. Maybe once, but if that will only be to 'prove me wrong'. He, nor any other of the most vocal 1st only drum beaters will go play with their like minded brethren in arms. Will not keep the numbers high enough to keep 1st person servers alive. Didn't happen in the MOD and won't happen in SA. Now after ALL the bloviating on this subject, I would ask a simple (but oh so telling) to the 1st person proponents. Why were 1st person MOD servers perpetually empty (and subsequently) why will SA 1st person servers be equally as barren if 1st is so popular amongst your ilk? Remember, you now have your own server, where no one can TPV 'cheat'... why will they be empty all the time? If you have the beans to actually answer please do, mind now to be honest

I dont follow. What do you mean "...lose the ability to truly conceal yourself and be sneaky."? You will actually be able to be more sneaky, than in straight up 1st, as you can see your body in relation to everything around you (part of that sense of presence I go on about). You gain everything you want (as a first person proponent), the only legitimate argument being, TPV seeing other players over walls and around corners. That problem is mitigated with raycasting. I honestly do not understand what your getting at in the second paragraph (unless sarcasm?).

That is a true statement. We use the tools given. Seems to me, there are (in the SA) two options (game wide) that can change the 'difficulty' of the game. 1st/3rd person and cross hairs. The MOD had name tags, death messages, way points, on map locator etc... The SA seems to be limited to two. I always play in third, but go into first when any encounter is about to happen. Do I 'peek' around corners? yes, am I proud that I do? no. Have I been killed by more people that peeked me first? you betcha. Do I think that in and of itself is reason to take 3rd away? absolutely not. Take away the ability to see other players in 3rd, if you can not see them in first and all is well, everyone happy. Outside of that, separate servers is the second best option. The absolute worst option is limit the entire game to 1st person only. Its nothing personal, until personal. B)

From way back in the MOD I have been arguing (and somewhere in every thread Ive posted in on this subject) for what that fellow did in the the mod (video first page, is after or before the 'merge') Doing a ray cast LOS rendering. If I couldn't see you in first person, I shouldn't see you in third. It is confirmed that it can be done on this engine, so it should be/could be the mitigating 'fix' we all need. And for all you dead set ONLY FIRST PERSON, but then say, well, 3rd is ok for in vehicles, yah of course its ok for vehicles. GET BENT, you all just destroyed your personal credibility and invalidated ALL your arguments, FOV sliders etc... (aside from seeing players around corners, that argument is always valid).

Eaxctly, just as in the MOD, and is now in the SA many servers will be rented by the community. *and real quick I need to ad, why would there need to be a separate hive? that's just silly talk, it is a server option, no need for a separate hive*... So Strat, and gobonez or however you spell it, and all the rest of you 'play my way or no way' nobs, go rent your own servers and play in 1st to your hearts content. Then, us 3rd person cheaters can play our way and you hardcore leet gamers can play your way, and everyone is happy.... Oh unless like in the MOD, everyone screams for 1st person only servers, then they perpetually sit empty. Another added bonus for that is that you guys can come slumming down to the 3rd person servers any time you want, and us sad silly crutch needing gamers can come try the 'big leagues' every now and again (if any 1st person servers survive past the first months rental...)

actually it is a very good argument. you have my beans, and those berating you get empty cans! :beans: <--- for you :emptycan: :emptycan: :emptycan: :emptycan: <--- for 'them'

Its not seeing a few extra inches side to side, its the natural 'presence' of all thats around you, that you can not simulate (with current tech) in a game. You get 'more' of that presence with third, and 'less' with first. Is how (IRL) you know right where your feet are without looking down... Your definition of 'immersion' and mine are different. Your computer monitor is different than mine. You set a different distance from that monitor than I do. You are not affected by the motion on screen the same as I. There are 1000 different variables between what you think is a good gaming experience and what I believe is a proper experience. Now, that all said, DayZ is not a game to cater to anyone. Thats not what core DayZ is about. However, there will be FPV servers shortly. I cordially invite you to play to your hearts content on those servers.
-
I remember long times ago, right around the time when the server files for the MOD were released to private hives. Oh there were so many servers that popped up "HARDCORE FP" servers... lots of them, and all but a couple lasted more than the first months server rental... and I can't think of a time ever seeing one full.

wrong it can be 'fixed'. Just don't know if the dev's will do it. LOS (line of sight) rendering. If my character can not see you if I were in first person, your character is not be rendered for me by my client in TPV... relatively simple fix. TPV fans can still keep all the aspects of why they like TPV (without the 'cheating') and FPV 'hardcore-leet-ass gamers' can stop their incessant whining. Besides, if ya'll so so 'hardcore' seems to me others playing with a crutch (TPV) shouldn't be any problem for you to overcome? Just be the hard-core-leet-street BOSS that you are, and smoke us all in your FPV.

there has already been tonnes of feedback. many many discussions on the topic. many people (including myself) just plain wont play 1st person exclusively, and we all have our valid reasons. I agree the third person 'cheating' is something that boils my bum too. My suggestion is LOS (line of sight) ray casting, you can see all of the environment as you do now, but if you cannot see another player in first person, he will not render in third. (relatively) simple fix to a 'cheating' issue, without making the game absolute shit for those of use that simply do not like being forced into 1st person all the time. I for one have a hard time judging close distance (in first). Third person makes for more smooth navigation. I know there is an alley on the other side of this wall, but I don't know there is a person waiting there for me...

rule number one. Do NOT talk about fight club B)

combat timer, logout timer, AND residual avatar that sticks around for >30 seconds if a player, combat, or zed is/happens within x number of meters from the player fixes combat loggers That takes care of that issue Throw in a server specific 'location' timer, as mentioned 100 times on these forums and you fix ghosting... I don't like the idea of 'send 'em to the coast' if you log out. I for one don't want to spend 3-4 hours making my way up north, log to go to bed, and have to start in Kemenka the next evening.

I do not think there would be a wipe without a patch release, and a notification... either a 'hacker' or just an alpher bug. I would actually lean towards the glitch, as all the 'bodies' seem to indicate every spawn spawned at that location, where as they should have been more varied spawn locations. all of them standing (prolly' dead and bleeding) has bug/glitch all over it... How many people were on when you tried to join? like if you were attempting to connect to a low pop server with 4 people and seen 20 some standing dead bleeding survivors... That just don't happen without something very glitched.

Batteries and some electronics thoughts.
BelMarduk replied to Land Squid's topic in General Discussion
Im not sure of a forum discussion on batteries, but I (for one) don't think anything more than a 'universal' battery (as is currently implemented) is really needed. With the advent of 'damage' to any and all gear, that mitigates (virtually) every issue. The proliferation of things like GPS and NVG's will be no where near that of the MOD. Unless you are a very good shot, or able to mug the person with the NVG's a firefight is probably going to destroy them. I guess we need to wait and see as the 'electronic' gear makes it into game as to how it plays out :D -
Well, at least now there is some 'mechanic' involved, compared to the MOD (save Epoch, that was actually pretty good with encumbrance/running). I believe Rocket has stated an encumbrance system will be implemented. From the MOD to now, there is far more authenticity to running than was then. Adding the encumbrance in and well, I think we will be as authentic as a game can be (I hate the words realistic, or any variation as 'realism' goes out the door with 'zombies').

*snip* This here is only fun for me, dont expect me to be angry. Im only here because i am interessted how the fanboys justify there entitlement. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ If the above is not admission of being a troll, I don't know what could be said, that would be an admission... (its just a little bit farther back, page 9 where I quoted you from...) EDIT:messed up 'quoting' fixed formatting via *snip*

First off, do you really/honestly want building/environment destruction? Have you ever played a minecraft server after it has been up for a while? Remember, this is a MMO not a single player experience. Does a huge map make any difference over a smaller map? Absolutely. This is as much (if not more) as a PvE game as it is a PvP game. The more area I have to enjoy the PvE aspects of the game the better. (this can be argued to an extent, the arguments are invalid however as well, its ALPHER and all content has yet to be added) Is 'eye candy' the most important feature of a game? Nope, not even a little bit. The playability of the game is first and foremost of importance. I can think of more games I played on my C64 with sprite graphics (Elite comes to mind, Hunt for Red October another, Flight (pre-MS flight as it was on the C64)) that I have put 100's(more) hours into than many many AAA 'eye-candy express' games of today. Most of which I don't even bother playing. Because they were just that fun. Read the roadmap of the game, for the 'mitigation' of just about every other point in OP. <--- ITS ALPHER That all being said, who forced you to pry open your wallet to buy this game? Personally, before I bought Arma CO (specifically to play DayZ May, 2012) I did so only after watching hours of game play on youtube. I was very disapoint when I finally got the game, as it was like just the day before or so heli's were removed from the MOD... I jumped on TDL (The Dead Linger) as it looked smashing, I bought it the day after the 10g (I think it was update) that broke guns making it unplayable. I still have high hopes for TDL. Point being, when you are going to buy a game... a) due diligence is on YOU. If a game is not what you want, or you don't think there is any way 'promises' can be kept, then don't enter into the exchange (you buying a game). b ) being butt-hurt because you failed 'a' is well, also on you c) I am indeed a fan boy of DayZ, as I have yet to have a game that gets my heart pounding, head spinning, and palms sweating the way DayZ does. Oh, the very first computer game I played was 'golf' in 8th grade (1982) on a TRS 80 (green screen) with an ascii representation of the 'course'. I have been playing computer games ever since...

Last two times I geared up (with all pristine items) I climbed atop the large apartment building and jumped.

no, it makes perfect sense, to use your hospital analogy its like walking into the hospital and asking... "How do I find patient SalamanderAnder's biopsy results" e.g. if I have to ask the receptionist where to/how to find information on you, I have zero 'legitimate' use for said info.
-
its desync/lag. Its an issue, not much to be done about it on 'our end'. When this is happening, take note... Hit 'P' (brings up player list connected to server) highlight your name look at the values ping, bandwith, and desync you will be experiencing the issues you describe if/when desync is anything over 0 (zero). only 'fix' is to either wait for the sync to catch up (which it will) or get on a different server (which may or may not exhibit the same thing)
-
I would say, if you do not know how to find the info yourself, you have no real 'legitimate' need for it... if you take my meaning.

because your internet is drunk... go home internet.

some places I never expected loot... there is a ledge on the outside of the prisons?(the same coloring as the atc building, with the bars on the first room) I have found canteens and canned food at about shoulder height the roofs of the 'new' apt buildings. well, just about every accessible roof seems to spawn loot. under and on all chairs, even behind the jumble of chairs in the 'first room down the hall upstairs' in the pub and not mentioned in the vid, about cars... in the trunk (or boot for some). I thought those looked more like lathes than they did sewing machines, but whatever lol, those boxes are everywhere, and indeed always worth a look. you really do have to look/loot everywhere.

Connecting to the same server on the same network?
BelMarduk replied to Aeoneth's topic in General Discussion
There are three DayZ players in my house (so same IP). Myself, and my two boys. We have never had this issue you speak of. High pop servers or low pop servers. Granted, we do not always play together, but we have. I would think there is something else going on... EDIT: it could be your router... specially if you have a linksys or other such piece of garbage. -
"hot wiring' a car sure will get the motor running, but the car still can't be driven... steering wheel lock anyone? Alarms? Who leaves their vehicle in the middle of town when they log off? e.g. for the zambie's come running idea? Yes, I know there are to be roaming hoards but still... No locks, No 'securing' of a vehicle. Maybe wheel boots, but again, should be (relatively) surmountable. If you can't hide your ride well enough, you loose it :o
