    Stuff conditions

Everything is affected by its damage. However, somethings are more apparent than others. Clothes offer protection from zombie attack to a degree. e.g. you probably wont bleed after an encounter wearing a hoodie, where you would in just a tee shirt. I do not think (in the line of clothes) there are 'degrees' of protection. e.g. you're protected until 'ruined'. Water bottles and canteens seem to loose water if their condition is 'damaged' or worse. Other things I havent actually 'seen' any difference from 'damage status'. Axe's for example. I would imagine that 'condition' of items will play more and more into the game as it progresses through alpher.
  3. Wipes are necessary. EVERY time any 'major' patch comes out. Remember this is alpher, AND we are not doing the 'testing' as testing means to the devs, that is to make a better game. The devs are running the testing. That requires things to be 'zeroed out' from time to time, to get 'clean' data from the patch. It matters little what we 'the community' think about the wipes... really... clear as mud?
  4. ...thats what 'persistent' death means. This is at the core, what DayZ is about. Its is NOT a casual gamers game by design... Be happy tho, you died not because of an 'alpher' glitch and actually got to be murdered :D
  5. I think the biggest issue the dev's have (aside from many obvious issues) with letting the community 'contribute' directly is copyright issues. If a community member were to use 'someone else ' sound (or whatever) and that sound 'belonged' to yet someone else... well BI and the devs find themselves in hot water. Love the idea of the community helping 'directly', but in the 'big picture' its really not a very good idea. Say someone made a 'pepsi' model, and got it in game, then pepsi comes and sue's for trademark infringement. (glaringly obvious example, but it gets the issue across...) Yes, you and I can agree that that would only be 'free' advertisement for pepsi, how could they possibly be upset. They arn't upset, they only see that pile of millions SA made and want a piece of it...

My character is still being DELETED!

both of you. When the loading screen first loads, and you see 'character' you MUST go in and set a 'default' character. If you don't hit 'save default' you will never get a character to save login to login.

    Storage (i.e Tents)

Imma start by saying alpher!. Although I would like to see storage now, its really silly to put in the game at its current state. There will be many 'hive database wipes' along the way. The (relatively) minor butthurt I have now that I can't 'store' my gear, is nothing compared to the butthurt that will surely be prevalent when the hive gets wiped and my fully stocked tent(s) get erased. Think about that...
  8. no you can not, the gun must be empty to reload it. As Luis said, if you're down to one round and want to 'top it off', you must eject the single round, then fully reload. Another 'authentic' mechanic for this particular weapon, as it is not a 'fast loading' gun in any sense of the concept.

    FNX45 = More Accurate then M4A1?

If you all wonder why there are only two 'long barrels' in the game (currently), this is why. The 'testing' of the devs, is the balance/play of, usefulness of (beyond ascetics) of attachments for guns. Indeed the attachments on the M4 make a huge difference in accuracy, just as in 'real life'. I think that is one of the most beautiful things about SA (and Rockets vision in general). Out of the many many weapons I own, only one (Lugar Mk3 target .22) was ever remotely accurate 'out of the box'. This is a very 'authentic' mechanic in the game, and I for one love it. You can't just pick up a gun and start doing headshots at 500+ meters (as you can in virtually every other FPS type game). We'll see where/how the balance plays out as the SA progresses through alpher.
  10. I wonder if it would have been such an issue to so many people, if it were never 'pointed out'...

    Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.113925

I have found way more Mosin's than M4's in the game... Though I have only been to mil spawns twice I think? I wrote a whole paragraph on where to find Mosin's but decided to erase it as, well discovery is a huge part of the game. Change the places you loot, like check out the places you haven't been bothered looting, and you'll find the prized Mosin. I will give a hit... ladders!

    "It's an alpha."

Dude, really, you're not doing yourself (rag boot, although I actually do not believe you that you serve in any military at all) or your argument (whatever that is, as its premise if flawed beyond belief) any favors...
  14. BelMarduk

    "It's an alpha."

First I would guess your parents are Democrats, and you are being raised as one yourself. How do I come to this conclusion? Only Democrats think that If a pile of money is thrown at something it automatically and immediately becomes better... and simply that is NOT the case. EVER (shit takes time...) That said... You did NOT pay for a finished polished game, you paid for a broken clunky foundation of a game that has only a little of its envisioned play value. You paid for an 'alpher' that you got, and all the updates throughout the entire life cycle of the game. You did read all the disclaimers about alpher? Rockets "DON'T BUY THIS GAME..."?, The onus is on you my friend. The butt-hurt you feel is of your own making. Maybe if people read 'terms and conditions' and all the 'fine print' and/or just simply took an interest in the transactions they make that require opening their wallets beyond "Oh shiny, take my money" attitudes, there would be far less butt-hurt in the world.

oops.. I thought Harry Callahan carried a .44 magnum, you know..."the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you’ve got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do you, punk?"... not a .357. Guess old timers getting Alzheimers? :P btw I am in my mid 40's so...

I have no idea where to go...

Ingame map's dont use "M" anymore. You need to ad your map to your hot bar and use the corresponding number to bring it up. EDIT: and remember map parts can be/should be joined together.
  17. and the zoom will render detail that you other wise would NOT see. AND your argument that a game mechanic give you awareness that the game mechanic simply can not give/render in first person is the exact same argument that we 3rd proponents make... just sayin

if you are running any flavor of Un*x (what ever distro of linux you're using) and can't fix mouse troubles yourself... you really shouldn't be running that OS... I think from this reply you Sir are the derp.

    [HELP] Object view distance.

I think I know what you mean. For me tho, it seems 'hit or miss' sometimes loot 'pops out' and sometimes it doesnt. There are three of us in my house that play. and honestly, I think it is a monitor issue, NOT an in game settings issue as two out of three setups here are identical save everyone has different 'monitors'. I use my 55"tv, one son has a 45" and the other boy has a 32"... just some 'food for thought'.

    How is the character stored?

When you hear 'hive' that's really whats being talked about (among other things). Your character is stored on the Hive. The Hive is a server, that 'controls' all the servers we play on. So, your account on steam is 'portable' e.g. you can play on any computer by logging into your steam account. You can connect to, and play on any 'public' hive server and have access to your persistent character, from YOUR account, no matter the computer you log in on (providing of course, the game is installed on the computer you log into steam on). "Private hive' servers are computers that have both hive server function and game server together on one box (server is a piece of software NOT necessarily a specific piece of hardware. Most servers run on 'dedicated' boxes and we incorrectly think that a server is the dedicated computer, but its really not, its the software ran on that dedicated computer)... clear as mud?

    Question!?

its a fun game to get four of your checkers in a line before your opponent, while blocking his same attempts... skill against skill alone.

    New Player Views

Welcome to DayZ. I would suggest a forum search for tips and tricks. There is a wonderful guide to nutrition (food and water). You will find once you know the mechanics of eating/drinking, the 'chore' aspect goes away. Zombies are as Rocket puts them a WIP. Maps (or pieces of maps that can be combined) are generally found in gas stations and abandoned cars. Crafting will be a large part of DayZ. Currently there are only a few craftable things, medical items, shirts ripped to rags, and map parts together. The controls and animations are very clunky (IMHO also), the controls will probably not change, but animations are sure to be being worked on. Check out the alpher road map for more detail on whats coming in the game. As per other player interaction, or more to the point, finding it, could be anywhere depending on when the server restarted. <-- that explanation would take a paragraph in itself. Good luck and have fun.

Possible solution to KOS, hear me out

ummmm, no. I 'accepted' the humanity system in the MOD at first, then grew to enjoy the system. The SA doesnt really 'support' per se that system. Kill a bunch of survivors and you get a 'bandit' skin, (the 'hero' skin for killing zeds and 'helping' anybody), but with all the character customization, its just unfeasible... Punishing players for partaking in the PvP aspect of the game is just silly. DayZ is a unique mixture of PvP and PvE. That's the beauty of what the core experience is all about. Don't wanna be bandit bait? stay clear of everyone. In all honesty outside of when I just play silly and run around looking for my lost marshmallows (yup is really fun to get other players reactions to a guy/gal running around in skivvies yelling for Henry to bring back marshmallows...) sure 75% or better ends in KoS but sometimes you get to hear maniacal laughter. The only 'acceptable' punishment that a bandit should receive in game is punishment brought down by you... Sandbox play is just that, no teachers allowed in the sandbox!

    Pending Update Rev. 0.29.113822

you are a special kind of stupid arn't you? We that bought the alpher get any and all updates free for life, that would be up to and including 'final' release... and all updates after...
  25. so to sum up all the pro-1st person arguments. You all have ZERO self control, and all of us should be forced into a play style because you all have no self control. 1st person servers will alleviate all issues. BUT because none of you can actually bring yourselves to play in your hardcore-leet mode. everyone needs to be forced... is that about right? I mean really? honestly? really? It truly does seem to come down to this. That is the underlying argument across the board here. Wow, I am done arguing this because I honestly now know the mechinations behind ALL you 1st person or nothing arguers. You all have left me wanting.
