Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008
BelMarduk replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I would guess the rubberbanding is a function of the SERVER/CLIENT fps (not to be confused with video FPS)... Remember, the gutting of the engine to remove all scripting capability, made the client 'dumb', as it it has to get 'permission' from the server to perform any action (this is the 'main' defense against hackers, which are more aptly named 'script-kiddies). The rubberbanding is the server getting confused over what the 'client' is saying it is doing (you having the client on your computer playing). kinda like this example... Im in Kemenka and want to run to Balota. everything looks good to me on my screen, and I run 200m. Then the server says "wait, I don't remember you being 'there' you belong back here", and the server 'forces' you back to where it thinks you should be. example 2... you're running up some steps in a building. you have had your finger on 'w' for 15 seconds running, turning etc. a loss somewhere between a frame from the server and your client while you reach the top of the stairs and stop. The server the relies on the 'last action' it knew you were doing and thinks you should be 5 meters in front of where you actually are and throws you through the wall outside the building, where you fall to your death. Server 'ping' has nothing (directly) to do with the problem (although can affect the severity of the problem). It is the server FPS thats the issue. -
Early/Pr-Players is kept throughout the Updates and Versions

being 'alpher' right now, that by definition means things get added, removed, tweaked etc... When major tweaks, additions, removal happens, the database wipes are for two primary reasons (and we could come up with hundreds more). First and fore most is 'we' the players are not really doing the 'testing' from the point of view that the devs are running the tests, and they need (many times) fresh 'data sets' to see what the 'changes' they make do. Kinda like in the MOD, when the AS50 was removed, it took weeks (months?) for all the AS50's to finally me completely removed from the game. The second thing is immediate 'balance' (although tied directly with the first point) on the new build. Balance for the players. -
Interesting that your first 'go-to' disconnect is Alt+F4. That being the quickest way to disconnect, it is the most inefficient way, if you're still planning on playing. e.g. why wouldnt you just use the UI to change servers, instead of exiting the game fully, reloading the game and waiting for all that?? Got in the habit of combat log much? That all said, Don't do that. That said. it is alpher.

I think it would be neat (although with no for see able defense if heli's are ever in the game) a 'roof top farm' atop any of the high rise apartments. Have barricading of course. Could make a craftable 'rain barrel' that would 'catch' rain water. Would make for some interesting rooftop base warfare.

Issues with firearms in Dayz SA (real world shooters perspective)
BelMarduk replied to daltar08's topic in Suggestions
The 'long range scope' looks more like a 'weaver mount' style not picatinny to me. I will take the side of the mechanics as it is now till the cow comes home. Not necessarily exactly how it is now, tweaking I am sure could help. I have commented before. If you're an 'experienced' shooter, then you have been around many novice shooters. A couple things that you can rest assured about a novice shooter, they are going to have at least one bad habit, like pulling their wrist, or dropping the muzzle. I honestly think the current 'scheme' portrays that. Remember, better attachments better the weapons accuracy (depending on the attachment). There is NO 'levels' in the game, your gear is your 'level'... -
I would say, just give it time. Remember, the MOD was Rockets vision. The straight up Arma II engine couldn't do everything Rocket wanted (although arguably it *could*, but its script based mechanic left it too open to the script-kiddies (a.k.a. hackers). The MOD was only a 'taste' as it were, so its really a bad idea to make any real comparisons between MOD and SA... I know I sound like a fanboy, and to a large degree I am, DayZ MOD was an absolute 'first', what made it great came from Rockets ideas for a game. Lets see what he comes up with en-toto... and remember ALPHER.

I have heard of a bug, that can allow anyone to make themselves 'admin'... making it lucrative to 'restart' the server ay will. I think there should be at least a 30 second warning on 'forced' restarts, and a couple minute notice for scheduled restarts... Sure, 'server restart in 5 minutes' may be 'immersion breaking', but 'no message received...' is way way worse.

Do you know how to adjust sights on a Ruger MkIII (as referenced in my example)? quite simple, if and only if you have a 1.5MM allen wrench (and know exactly what you're doing, as there are TWO adjustments, windage and elevation). Do you know how to adjust the cross hairs on a leopold 12x9 scope, and the difference between THE IDENTICAL looking knobs on a weaver scope? Do you even think in any of the known worlds, that you could perform those adjustments, without firing a single shot, with any accuracy at all? The answers are a huge NO. Now, since we don't really want "gun sighting simulator 3000" as the game we are playing, and that aspect of authenticity is appealing to Rocket well.... There are BTW adjustable sites in the game... pageup/pagedown... Just by that statement tells me you have no idea what you're actually talking about, in as much as 'real' sighting in a gun, and why you need to do it" and transferring that to a mechanic in a video game. Oh and to 'the devs dont know guns...' Google back the inspiration of DayZ, where is came from, and the vision of that experience put into a game as best it could. Rocket knows plenty about weapons, his vision was a PvE experience with no limits on PvP. PvE is the core of DayZ. EDIT : whats added in RED text

you can not have a 'live' character and change it. connect to a server and die. then log out (DO NOT RESPAWN). then change the character as you like, MAKE SURE TO HIT SAVE... If that doesn't 'fix' your issue, then submit a bug report.

*facepalm* There are mechanical devices you can get for your weapons that mitigate those things. Weapon sway? bi-pod (or lean against a tree, that is not/can not(?) be put in the game.. High recoil? muzzle suppressor, forward grip. Whats hard to 'simulate' is the fact that you never fired the specific weapon you just found, thats been sitting how long NOT covered in cozmoliene (sp? the grease/wax compound for packing things long storage) ?. I don't give a crap who you are, there is no person alive that can pick up any weapon and fire it with proficient accuracy EVER, outside complete and absolute blind luck. RL example (and true story). A friend and myself (year before last) took a drive to a gun store. We both bought brand new Ruger Mk III .22 semi-auto's. He actually had to get the 'anniversary edition', where as I bought the 'standard'. We get home (well he dropped me off) and went to go do our own thing. Both of us did the same thing. Strip our new toys down, and clean them up for the range tomorrow. First two mags, not even paying attention to accuracy, more to feeding and feel. (CCI stingers). Third mag, there are still some golf balls on the back stop hill of the outdoor range, 50m distance. 3 out of 10 shots hit the golf ball (mine). Flat and level 'out the box'. Hand mine to Dan (another friend, that doesnt shoot much at all, he doesn't own his own firearm). He is grouping like 15-20 inches at 50 meters. I let him know what I see him doing wrong, next two mags, he's grouping 4-7 inches. Now to Toms gun. Now first let me put it this way. I think I know what I am talking about when it comes to guns and shooting. I KNOW Tom knows what he's doing. Same thing, he blows two mags through not ever really aiming (and had some feed problems that I had to bust his balls for, as his anniversary edition was 300 bucks more than mine). Third mag, he's shooting inches to the right. 4th the same. he adjusts the rear site. Now its even worst? I notice the gun pulling as he squeezes the trigger, NOT something I have EVER seen him do. Now, looking at this we came to the conclusion, it was the 'wood grips' on his Ruger, not being as perfectly cumfy in his hand as the polymer grip on mine. Now, this issue took (two rather experienced shooters) about 50 rounds to figure this out, under 'range' conditions. And you are right, it should NOT have took that many rounds. If it were Dan shooting, I would have noticed it before the first magazine was empty, but as I was 'assuming' it HAD to be the gun and not Tom's technique. Second and the most important point, the GRIPS would have made that gun exponentially more accurate for him the shooter 'right out of the box'. So YES absolutely, unequivocally, 'accessories' do indeed make a weapon more accurate. even hand grips on a hand gun. TL:DR? you want perfect precision on any gun you pick up in a game? CoD and the like are games for you.
-
without discipline, 'pressing the trigger' will indeed give you the dispersion pattern the game currently has. First, without training, it would take tens of thousands of rounds to become even 'proficient' with a single gun. Remember, practice does NOT make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect. If there is no one to tell you that your jerking the trigger, no one to tell you your fulling your wrist, you will be under the assumption for a long time, that its the gun and not you. Even a trained 'weapons expert' will need a number of rounds before a weapon is 'accurate' to any degree. @Gews. This game IS and ALWAYS was (as in the dream of its creator Pocket) a PvE game first with PvP allowances. So the direction of precision guns with perfect aim is a direction opposite to its original path. If you honestly want to argue that point, Im going to have to make another pot of coffee.

The bullshit flag is officially thrown. No you didn't, quit making things up for attention.
-
well, a cursory mention that weapon accuracy is total crap without looted 'replacement' parts and add-ons for the weapons e.g. bi-pod, scopes etc... and that bi-pod what ever the weapon added only helps when prone.

photoshopped

"purely player knowledge on the subject, and neither, none of this matters" are the same thing... really

I believe that you can not have a 'live' character change any attributes. -
Battleye... I'm thinking it's not good
BelMarduk replied to InvisiMan2013's topic in General Discussion
you were being sniped man. didn't you hear the shots, giving you your que to get out of the windows? I would guess from atop the hospital. NOTE your shirt gets damaged just before the "you are unconscious"... you were getting shot at the whole time you were in the room. -

BelMarduk replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
I believe you have to look at, and understand just who is doing the "Alpher testing". Its not 'we' the gamers. It is the devs. They need all the data gained from all of us 'play testing' their creation. I believe the 'sub-private hive' would mean, release of hive files, that can be made 'private' but with stipulations, e.g. devs get full access to logs and game meta-data. That data would be invaluable. The making of two different hives, between 'hardcore' and 'regular' also makes good meta-data mining pertaining to the game. These things also have a way of placating issues the 'community' likes to fret and argue about... Just my take EDIT: Another thought about the splitting of the hives, is the current hive structure is not adequate to handle everything, and/or susceptible to DDoS (and the like) and/or whatever reason its failing due to the high volume of players? No immediate 'fix' in sight? allow the hive to split (splitting the players into more reasonable, ergo playable numbers)? TL;DR? The devs prolly wouldn't want to split the hive unless there was a compelling reason. -
*snip* First ... Alpher! That said, realistically (as you all know I dislike that word in relation to SA as 'authentic' is much more appropriate.) your accuracy with virtually any weapon can increase exponentially with added attachments. You do know what a muzzle compensator does, and why you would put on on a weapon? Ever seen the show 'Top Shot'? Each new series of peoples going through all these HIGHLY TRAINED weapons experts (Top Shots) are usually given each get ONE shot from a 'unique' weapon at a target, two closest get to be 'captains' and choose their teams. Its usually funny to see these experts miss by inches targets 50 meters away. Point being is this, NO ONE will EVER (outside of blind luck) Special forces green beret included, pick up a weapon and start using it with precision proficiency. Bench/range conditions will require no less than three rounds to even decipher where the bullets are going, let alone 'figuring the gun out'. That's range conditions. Thats understanding (I mean really understanding) what you're looking at it the grouping. e.g. just because your grouping is slightly right of target, does NOT necessarily mean the gun is shooting to the right, you might have shit trigger control. Should 'name brand parts' make a difference? yup. you get what you pay for. A 'stock' M4 is shit. Should a butt stock really make a difference to accuracy, no matter the manufacturer? "Realistically'? NO "Authentically"? absolutely. In the same manner that "Realistically" does a morphine shot fix a broken leg? NO but its an 'authentic' problem/fix for the game. Absolutely. Going back to 'Its Alpher"', could the numbers be tweaked? probably. Should the 'concept' behind the mechanic as it is now be changed? No, I think its wonderful. As there are no 'levels' in the game, equipment is your level....

You are a special kind of stupid arn't you? Not going to lie, it was my boy that pointed me to DayZ MOD May before last. We have talked a lot about the game, items, etc... It took a long time for me to get him to understand the 'mechanics' behind a computer game, . Im not going to have that patience with you. I will however give you one of my favorite quotes, a quote from John Wayne... "Life is hard, its harder if you're stupid". Im sorry you will have such a hard life.

The back story is what you make it... As someone that has put 10's of thousands of rounds down range. More to the point, trained 10's of hundreds (well maybe 10's of 10's) of people to put rounds down range safely. Without having put 10's of thousands of rounds down range, no one (besides maybe an idiot savant who's talent is weapons), NO ONE is going to be immediately proficient in the handling of any weapon regardless, especially in the zombie apocalypse... That said, there is no 'perfect' way to have that be an immersive aspect to a video game. DayZ being a game without levels, sandbox survival, our gear is our level. Upgrades to the weapons increasing the accuracy/grouping of that weapon seems to be a very good (albeit imperfect) solution to simulate that. I agree though, the 'values' need tweaked and balanced. EDIT About your back story. It is, as I said, what ever you make it to be. One thing you are not however, is a special forces weapons expert. You might have been, but you retain no 'muscle memory', just the fundamentals of operation... thats the trade off for me being the industrial electrician but can't get the power plant back up. B)

the 'zombies' are not mutated walking dead. They are still living breathing people, they are however 'infected'... :o Or I like to think of them as just really hung-over grumpy Russians... >:( The only need a snack, and get really annoyed at loud noise... >:( They really just need a hug,.. In the MOD you found empty whiskey bottles a lot as trash loot...

Suggestion: Empty water bottle + duct tape = improvised silencer
BelMarduk replied to Nehefer's topic in General Discussion
...note the video e47 shows. You would have ZERO use of optics putting an oil filter on (with the 'econo-can adapter' ) and being that a water bottle is about the same diameter... I vote bad idea... -
I lolled and lolled again... and am still lol'ing

Dean "Rocket" Hall, may I ask a Favor?
BelMarduk replied to Joseph1234's topic in General Discussion
Port for xbox will probably never happen, and port for playstation will probably be a slim proposition. In any case, neither could be ported until in reaches 'retail' status. xbox is absolutely crap for any type of 'update' system (sure from 'your' point of view any 'updates, dlc etc' seems easy enough, but its really a bad 'system' for a game like DayZ (SA)), The way the console companies require 'packaging' of updates (et al) is not friendly to developers in any way shape or form. Rocket has said he is not against the thought of porting to consoles, but from the developers point of view it is not going to happen any time soon (if at all). Sorry man, its winter, so you could go shovel walks and earn some cheddar...
