  1. I personally have three bows. I have a Bear II compound set for 65lbs. I have two recurve bows (those were my dads). The compound bow is pretty much all I shoot, occasionally I take the recurves out, but the older I get, the wider the time frame between uses. I hunt, and subsequently practice with the compound. This style of shooting (the video) is more attuned to a recurve bow verses a compound bow, but if you apply the style of shooting to all those ancient stories about Hun horseback archers, or Egyptian chariot archers, I think this video can show how a bow 'in the right hands' can be quite affective. For all intents and purposes any compound bow you would find, will be silent enough beyond 5-10 meters. Bow strings get mounted with 'silencers', those little pom pom looking things attached to the bow string. Those suppress a huge amount of the sound the bow makes. Sound travels faster than an arrow, unlike a bullet, so if you have a bow that makes allot of noise (stepping on a twig will spook a dear at 30-40 meters, for reference of 'loud')... If the sound of the bow reaches the dear before the arrow does, the dear is going to spook and you're not going to be cooking venison that evening.
  2. wrong. If someone owns a bow (and hunts, this only applies to someone that hunts with a bow... the vast majority of bow owners) I guarantee they are going to have a pile of broad heads. No one (modern times, modern equipment) is going to hunt with blunts or practice tips (because they don't impart massive immediate trauma). If you have been around bow hunters, but don't hunt yourself, then no, you probably have had little to no exp with broad heads, as no one would go out and practice with them (obvious reasons, Ill explain if you don't immediately get the why). Any bow hunter is going to have at least an equal amount of arrows with broadheads as he does with blunts/practice tips. When I go out practicing, I keep my quiver full (mounts on bow), so I am practicing with the same weight/setup as I will be out in the tree and the quiver is full of broadheads. EDIT: clarification. I (an average bow hunter/owner of a bow I think) always have 36 arrows on hand. 12 have Steel Venom 100gr broad heads. 24 100gr practice heads... I don't think I have ever brought my broad head arrows out for anything other than showing them off, or heading into the woods to hunt...

    BattlEye Bans?

If you have your bike stolen off your back porch, and the cops come and say 'yup, you're gates open, looks like someone stole your bike and used it in a crime'. The cops are not going to give you a new bike. Neither is Schwinn going to give you a new bike, and in either case, you shouldn't be given a new bike. Some how, some way you left the the key to the gate for someone to use, weather you meant to or not. *see my post above about a computer doing ONLY what you tell it to do*. BE offers YOU no security, and never made the claim to. BI offers YOU no security, never claimed to. BE offers security to servers. You failed in the security of YOUR computer, which is YOUR responsibility. That all said, I believe BE has done a great job in securing the servers (understand just what they are asked to do via catching *bad* scripting (among other things)in a game (MOD) who's entire existence is scripts. The SA is 'similar' to the MOD in as much as most of the 'scripting' that generates everything outside the map (loot etc) is scripts hard written into code. BE is a solid company, doing a great job.
  4. ummm, a broad head arrow from a 65lb draw bow will put a man down very quickly (without any medical attention) as fast if not faster than a 9mm hollowpoint round (hollow point rounds are the only rounds designed to cause massive trauma) at the same impact point. Arrows will go places a bullet will never reach. an arrow will go through a sand bag, travel way farther through water (retaining 'deadly' force), etc. Movies are not the place to get anecdotal data on topics such as this. as a bow hunter and rifle hunter, there is far more 'trauma' damage from my bow than from my gun. hell google 'broad head damage' images and you will see what I am talking about.

    BattlEye Bans?

Fact of a computer: It will ONLY do what you tell it to do. Period. Any argument against this fact will be laughed at for days and days. Fact of a car: it will need maintenance (if used/driven at all) *same note on argument above* To follow your analogy out... If you have a 'trusted' mechanic all is well. If you don't have a trusted mechanic you are going to *pay* far more than what you otherwise should. I can understand that not everyone has 'uber' skills on either fixing a car or a computer (I am actually ASE certified, GM certified mechanic (7 years working as a mechanic at a GM dealership), AND MCSE and A+ certified (9 years working as a field service tech office equipment B) )). However in BOTH (or any) instances due diligence is required. If you don't know what you are doing, you find someone 'trusted' to help you. If you can not be bothered to at least research what affects the money leaving your wallet (or cause money to leave your wallet), then its kind of silly to get butthurt when that money goes where you didn't want it to go... Or more to the point, protecting the money still in your wallet.

    BattlEye Bans?

Reading your post made me chuckle. Not really at you, just the implications behind the post. A new computer costs however many hundreds of dollars/euros whatever. The mantra "I don't know anything about computers to be able to optimize my rig', followed up with "I can't afford a new computer, or even single parts'... Well lazy Lindas, I am here to tell you ALL the information you would get in a Masters level computer technology course is available FOR FREE all over the interwebs. "I don't know what I am doing", "I don't know how to...." simply are NOT valid excuses. They are simply cop-outs to LAZINESS. Giving OP's cousin's friends neighbors uncle the benefit of the doubt, he should still be punished simply for this LAZINESS.

    BattlEye Bans?

As I have not decompiled the BE client (and I would imagine neither have you), exactly what and how BE does its thing, is pure speculation. I would however (making an informed speculation) make the assumption that ONE of the ways BE works is both examining running processes (which in and of itself is one thing) along with monitoring threads to key memory addresses. simply (or only) examining running process would be a very silly in and of itself. You get this cheat/hack called leetgamehack.exe. BE looks for that process. Change name of leetgamehack.exe to skype.exe and you would foil BE. So NO, its not a simple matter of scanning for running processes. There are a number of things BE does as an 'anti cheat'. Scanning processes? YES. Scanning memory? YES, Scanning client/server communications? YES. Other things I am not listing here? Absolutely. Are there thigs BE will flag and ban for that are NOT cheats? you betcha. Will the fine folks at BE review a BE bad and over turn if it is false? Im living proof they will. TL;DR? If you get banned and were cheating, you will stay banned. If you are banned from a false flag, you will get your account back. If you were an idiot and allowed someone to cheat you, well you're screwed... and screwed you should be. Don't be an idiot.

    BattlEye Bans?

Last year I fired up DayZ MOD and was greeted with a global ban. Took about 4 days of emailing BE, but had my game back. I was flagged with a false positive or whatever. They wouldn't go into specifics, but if I remember right, (or more to the point, the only thing I could think, it was something from me crashing a heli, and the code it sent, it was very odd the game crash after the heli crash, anyhow...) I have much faith in Battle Eye after that experience. Yah it sucked while I was in the 'holding cell' for them 4 days, but really if you're not actually partaking in shenanigans, they will exonerate you.

A new way to use books in DayZ :D

    that was great  :beans:
  10. Almost everyone (well at least me and a few others) have been 'glitched' into buildings... closed rooms with 'no way out'. Someone might have been glitched into a 'room' you couldn't see into/get to and had some 'fun'.. brilliant fun if you ask me. B) Not saying this is actually what you experienced, but it is a very plausible explanation.
  11. BelMarduk

    Stuck in an invisible room

^^^ what he said. Its easy to glitch back out, although it might take some persistence. logging out very close to the wall usually helps, "vaulting' at corners usually works for me... it does happen quite a bit more than you would think should.
  12. I was going to make this post, but you sir got to it first. I only agree as far as game mechanics are concerned. I (in my youth) boxed, and many years practicing kung fu and jeet kwon do. Being that you character (in game) does not have years of hand to hand combat training AND what a helmet is actually designed to do... The sole purpose (pragmatically usefulness) of the motorcycle helmet is to provide protection against going unconscious from a blow to the head. There are three 'major' 'good night buttons' (as I like to call them) above a persons shoulders, ALL are protected with a full face helmet (save for a 'perfect' uppercut...and I mean perfect...). That all said, this is a game. As a bullet is considered the 'great equalizer' AND we finally have the ability to melee without weapons AND this being a game, fists should be one of the most OP weapons in the game... Another way of looking at it is this. Equipment (not talking guns and attachments) should protect you from all organic environmental threats, except from other players fists... EDIT I remember as a lad, two fights 'on the field' on playing (American) football, the other hockey. Both times, the respective idiots took their helmets off (and playing hockey, that dude dropped his gloves. Foolish actions by both of them... I took a number of blows to the helmets and laughed and laughed while I bloodied the noses and lips of my would be assailants... IRL helmets will indeed offer massive protection from a pugilistic attack, however as implied above, I agree with the mechanic in game of easily KO'd while wearing one.

    Getting kicked?

yes, and report those servers that kick. Make those low-life degens that refuse to operate their servers by the rules they agreed to BEFORE sending their money in loose their servers.

Need some kind of self healing...

Squad play and lone wolf play are so diametrically opposed in this game (and thats one of the appeals of the game, no doggin' it here). I ain't going to lie, I almost agree with you, then I remember, I hate the concept of 'med kit, full heal'. The zombies are really not a threat, unless you have no weapon (that will change when collision is fixed, and numbers increase). No health regen should be slow and arduous as it is now. Sure some tweaking can happen, but all in all, not even squads should be able to heal completely in 5 minutes, gear or not.

    Why aren't PvE servers allowed?

Did you have to get gubbament permission to have those kids? Was there a 'contract' between gubbament and you signed before your kids arrived? NO, there's the huge flaw in that analogy. Question, IF this game has AI, that you could not turn off. AND it became a single player/LAN game (no MMO general internets?). Would you and your friends be playing a PvE game? What I am getting at is no matter what, other players, or AI IS PART OF YOUR ENVIRONMENT! THERE FOR OTHER PLAYERS ARE YOU VERSES THE ENVIRONMENT... Thats why it is ok to advert and promote PvP servers BUT NOT PvE only... All servers are by definition PvE servers with PvP (possible) action... oh you want SUPER EASY environment... NO thats NOT DayZ.

Base Buidlind and How it Works?

in "vanilla DayZ, there was only the lowly tent. Origins had a garage and house that you could build (hero and bandit, very static). Epoch had a more robust mechanic walls (concrete block or wood), ceiling/roof, steps, ladder... Best thing to fully see whats out there (in MODS) visit youtube. EDIT, and any instance of building will have to be server specific, it has to be (two people build something on the same area... that would be bad)
  19. BelMarduk

The importance of first focal plane optics.

In the MOD, all the scopes were easy to range targets with. The only 'tricky' scope was on the DMR. If you know how to use a scope, then (as long as even ArmaII's style of scope mechanics) ranging is very simple, and quick... and if you in a second looking through a scope on any gun in the MOD couldn't determine with absolute acceptable accuracy, then you really dont know how to use a scope.

    Custom faces?

I doubt if custom faces will ever be in (aside from maybe private hives). Rocket has termed his reasoning behind NOT allowing custom faces to a period of time called "Time to Penis" T2P is the time between release of the ability to customize your characters face, to the time people are running around with penis heads... Although I find this prospect to be very entertaining, I remember Dean being against that.

    Dayz and SteamOS when?

for far too much of the masses "windows' means PC :( :( EDIT take this quote of Weparo... Yah, no shit bro, I read the specs too. And btw, Xbox and PS are PC's too... because on what else are you going to play it? A mechanical "computer" maybe? But that wasn't what this was about, I said that I wan't BIS games to stay PC exclusives. Now what part of that didn't you understand? ...as in first stating the 'accurate' PC as being personal Computer (and emphasizing the 'computer') but then making instance that the term PC is meaning 'windows' by implication... and he doesn't even realize that.

TV says 'unsupported' when I play.

set your video card to use the video card to force resolution. being that you failed to mention what your video card is, I will fail to mention exactly how to do that...
  24. the zombies in the SA are really just 'place holders', they are not really a threat (yet). The zombies in the MOD are... There are huge differences in the dynamics of zombies between SA and MOD, besides what you see. Thats said, for now stealth from the first minute spawned (in the MOD) is paramount. 'New' spawn is random... http://etoan.com/random-number-generation/dilbert2001182781025.gif
