You want some more progress screenshots of DayZ Standalone?
BelMarduk replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Rockets comment about not having the feels for the 'industry' gave me the feeling that BI basically put the SA coming out on hold to have the sale, and get just a little more money out of Arma II. SA will be out a couple days, maybe a week or so after the Arma II sale ends. Just my take on the matter... -
Consolidated Weapons/Equipment suggestions
BelMarduk replied to rocket's topic in Mod Announcements & Info
Throwing my two cents in.. I don't like the idea of a skill tree per se. I think an 'invisible' skill tree that resets on death, and completely unknown to the player. How many people do you know that think they are really good at something, but arnt. All in all everyone is a jack of all trades but some people over time can develop their skill sets better. Say like randomly a 5% speed increase in bandaging skills, maybe. Might take 100 times bandaging someone (or fixing a wheel, or reloading a gun, or whatever) before a 'skill' would increase. Practice doesn't make perfect perfect practice makes perfect, so farming the skills wouldn't really be an option, if you guys take my meaning. Would also give a player more of a reason to try and stay alive. -

Survivor camps/bases/houses + ingame money!
BelMarduk replied to trexeth's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
First off, IRL money = an amount of production or labor a person has 'put into' the economy, allowing him to take a like amount of production of his fellow man 'out'. A dancer entertains a group of people, maybe not the baker, but by getting paid dollars is able to trade those dollars received for entertaining the electricians and hair dressers to buy bread from the baker, indirect trade (barter) of goods and services... (social welfare programs etc have bastardized this concept, and that is another issue and NOT the focus of this post). Put another way, currency (money) allows for the specialization of labor and thats its ONLY function EVER. As there are not going to be 'character classes' etc, how could there be any but rudimentary 'specialization of labor'? With nothing really beyond a clan, or group that runs together (one guy is a sniper, one guy is a medic, a couple gunners and maybe a grenadier)? I personally do not feel that any 'in game currency' should be established by the devs. I Like what Rocket proposed to give us players as many tools as he can, and if we build an economy of sorts, then great. That all being said, I like the ability to extract (and save/collect) zombie teeth. When the SHTF bills and notes will loose all meaning (as virtually all forms of production break down). -
Arguing with someone on the internet is like running in the special Olympics.... even if you win, you're still a retard.

Why you should not enter Object A2, Namalsk

I am going to make a claim for the justification of loot farming. First I must say, I have never had the need for farming for weapons, the Winchester is my fav weapon (love its sexy pop, and I am not really a PvP player so I dont need long range sniping). I have farmed for car parts. I look at it like this. If it were real life, a regular run through of an area will only give a cursory look for items, whats obvious and in the open. Farming is like a real thorough search. akin to opening every drawer, box, closet, corner, rummaging through piles of crap etc. A thorough search of a building would take far more time than a run though glance. IRL many of the industrial buildings would have alot more stuff in them, benches, piles of stuff etc, that just arnt in the game proper. A tire isnt setting out in the open, but there is one under that pile of scrap... Taking the time to loot farm an area is taking the time to rummage through all the stuff in the building. After all, the warehouses at the NWAF would be chock full of stuff that may take some time to find the 'useable' items, not huge empty buildings. Just my thoughts... -
I still think encumbrance is the way to go... forget slots, stacking etc (at least for 'storage'). Have every item have a weight and a size attached to it. A backpack has its dimensions, if all the items you wanna put in it will fit, then so be it. e.g. you could put some 50+ 1911 mags into a large ALICE pack, however you could never put a fully assembled AS50 into one. Not sure how to 'balance' vehicle parts into the mix... a windscreen is pretty big after all (if not all that heavy), and its imposable to actually run with an engine block (let alone even pick it up)... but then again, a car tire to fix an old bike wheel? lol.

Survivor camps/bases/houses + ingame money!

I play on a white listed server. Pl@net dayz. Wonderful group of players. There is a small area of the map that is a no-fire zone. A refugee camp. This is as far as it should go. No NPC's. thats just a bad idea. No "game directed currency". I like what Rocket has always said, WE, the players decide what to do with any of the tools he puts into the game. If Beans become the unit of barter, then so be it, tin cans if every one decides they have 'value' more power to it, but no game set currency. I like the idea of mini games, I know if this were real life, I would love for a little respite with the fam while holed up in an abandoned house and play a game of chess, or cards, or whatever (not making any suggestions, but if we are talking r/l...) -
Wow... wow... When you can not do something, you can not do something. That is not just a matter of 'competence'. Competence and ability are two different things you know. If this were like the mod when he first released it, things would be much different (30-50 players?). As it stands, when the SA is finally released, there will be some million people plus clamoring to get a copy now, no not now, RIGHT NOW. Admitting that he does not in any way shape or form have the logistics to do that, but has brokered a plan to where that can be done speaks volumes about 'him and his project". Wow...

Rocket, there are three of us in my house that play DayZ. I am concerned with the gamma control, and color control being server set. The problem is, My oldest boys monitor, which is a 22" flat panel, needs to be hardware jacked, along with most apps software side also (gamma, color and brightness) to get a decent picture. I am all for not going out of your way to make the game 'accessible' , but limiting what can be done to make the best picture you can seems a bit over the top. e.g. This 'feature' is going out of your way to make the game inaccessible. Ill be dropping whatever the cost is to get three copies of the standalone when it comes out, but cant afford to get new monitors any time soon. As with holding true to what the apocalypse is, adapt and survive, thats what we will do in any case...

You found ground zero! Thats where the infection starts. Someone farted in a mud bath, which mutated an, until then, benign virus... Send the CDC to investigate! lol No really, thats great!

The minecraft model. In its 'alpha' release state it will be very cheap (both less content but very low price). As the game gets more content and better functionality, all the 'updates' will be free to those that have already bought the game, but as those updates (e.g. the game gets better) the price to 'jump in' will increase. When I first got minecraft for my boy, It cost 15 bucks I think. When I finally decided to get a copy myself so we could play together I had to pay like 25 bucks for my copy (a year or so later, maybe two...). The content that I got was far more than the content he got (when first bought) BUT we both end up with the same content.. This year the game might cost 20 bucks at release, next year however it might be 25-30 bucks to buy. That's the 'minecraft' model. So yes, there will be (ad infinitim?) rolling updates to the stand alone. -

One of my still favorite games ever of all time was elite (DayZ is a close second if not actually tied). I have a pile of floppies for my commodore64 (and a few cassettes) and the only one I miss playing is elite (and the bards tale's which I still play now and again, my boys love getting retro too) sadly though, the little plastic anti-play-a-copy device broke a few years back (well, maybe about 7 or so), and I havent been able to play it since:( Rocket, you ROCK! (with a very good taste in games!!!). -
Normally I dont flame but... You sir are dense as a block of granite, did you read this thread? No, no you didnt. How do I know you didn't and that you are a lazy lazy person? Because, I think at least three times in just this thread itself has the line item that needs to be changed on the server side to fix the problem has been well, posted. Wow, ... wow. I dont really kow Razor, but from just this post of yours, he is at least just a bit holier than tho... now go away and read just a little bit peasant!

huge performance increases. Map selection is a personal taste. Ive tried em' all and really like good old Charnarus. same with number of people... its easier to find a group of people (regulars not so much like clan members, though they are there too) on private hive servers. as they are usually whitelisted or passworded and not persistant across other servers. e.g. all the time you put into a survivor is only on that server so you'll keep going back to that same server. white list = if you're not on the list, you dont play on the server and password usually requires you signing up on the sites forum and get to know the servers community.

The only time I get that message was when my pings were through the roof (e.g. my side network issues). If you use DayZ Commander, and everything us up to date, and your network is all correctly setup (no firewall or bandwidth issues) Then I dont have a clue.

I was playing earlier today and played fine. Just now went to play for a few hours tonight and got this same error...

The Symbiotic relationship between "Carebears" and "Bandits"
BelMarduk replied to dekartz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Surviving is the heart of the game. PvP and Banditry may be the heart of your game, but not the heart of the game. PvP and banditry are indeed part of surviving... -
can you connect to BE enabled OA servers?
-
Ummm, You do know that there are many private hive servers out there. That being anything you do on one private hive, does not cross over from hive to hive, and they also do not cross over to the public hives? If you were playing on the same server, and that server lost all your stuff, it goes back to, well it is alpha...

Suggestions for the DayZ standalone - thinking outside of the limitations of an Arma 2 mod.
BelMarduk replied to ruarz's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is not so much about weapons, but an Idea that I think would rock. Add all the maps in the standalone, all connected. Such as to the far south east in the ocean, have the island of Lingor, to the far west Fallujah, etc. When you first connect you get to choose the map you wish to connect to, but not the random spawn point. Travel would take a long time by foot (almost imposable to swim to the islands). "Loading" screens would most definitely need to be accepted, as it would most likely require a synching to another server. I do not know the feasibility of this, but I think it would be awesome to be able to travel from map to map. I also posted this on the reddit EDIT:(not on reddit) I read through a bunch of GUI and Backpack ideas. I want to go back to encumbrance. If you can carry it, you can carry it. a 'slot' based pack is a bad idea, e.g. a small person could carry 50 empty 1911 mags with no problem, and they all would fit in a coyote pack (but not when 'slot' based inventory system in used). Could every 'useable' item have two variables attached to them, weight, and size? A car tire could never fit in a backpack, but could be carried (as long as primary weapon were slung on your back). Which would bring up this point, a car tire that will fix a bus, will also fix an old bike? (I know, thats a throw to arma's limitations but just giving notice to the idea). Have like the old Diablo inventory screen, but you dont have to fenaggle items to fit (it could grow in optical size on screen?). If you do take the time to arrange the items in your inventory it will make for finding things easier, but just throwing them in makes for a jumbled mess? if the total square cm of items will fit, then the items will fit in the bag. (Ever looked into your girlfriends purse?) If the total weight of the items in the bag were below the players max encumbrance the player could carry the bag (ever picked up your girl friends purse?). -
Sweet, a while ago we (a couple of friends) tried to organize a Tour d'Cherno an old bike race from NW air field to Krustoy Cap, no equipment (no map, no compass, no gps). Sadly, it never happened:(

Private Server - Player kicked off by Battleye: Client Not Responding
BelMarduk replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
One thing that I noticed (from the BE not responding kicks) is, when connecting to the server, I always wait a good 10-15 seconds AFTER I see the BE up to date message (in the lobby) before I actually attempt to join the game. That eliminated all BE client not responding kicks. -
Its not hero skin per-se. Any time you change clothes (skins) all empty mags will (re)fill up. When you first log in, you have regular civ clothes on, but if you have attained hero status you are then 're-skinned' to the hero skin, there by causing all your mags to refill. Changing skins any time will refill your mags e.g. change into camo clothes, all mags are full, empty all mags to one, change back into civ clothes and all mags are full again. This was supposed to be fixed with the 'ammo tracking correctly now' but I guess it wasnt.
