  2. Only to a very small degree do you ever 'learn from your mistakes' unless you have a guru 'teaching' you, pointing out your mistakes. Without knowing you're doing something 'wrong', you will tend to keep doing whatever action incorrectly, especially if it 'seems' to be correct. For example, take putting a wheel on a car with disk brakes (IRL). If you do not tighten the lug nuts correctly, in the proper order then you WILL warp the rotors. The vehicle will still run just fine, save for a shimmie every time you apply the brakes, and further will wear out the brakes faster, cause the wheels to become miss-aligned prematurely wearing out the tires, among other potential suspension problems. Point being, without the 'improper tightning of the lug nuts' being pointed out, you'll never know thats the reason your brakes need replaces to often, and tires wear out too fast. And just think, you have changed 100 tires, and can do it in like 45 seconds flat... EDIT: fixed typos
  3. I like the idea of a skill system but if and ONLY IF it is completely 'hidden'. What I mean is this... Practice does NOT make perfect. perfect practice makes perfect. So yah, the more you repair a vehicle the better you get at repair. A 'failed' repair attempt should destroy the parts involved. but a failed repair attempt will not increase your skill to have a better attempt next time. Maybe the first 20 'repairs' (noob lvl) will increase your skill, but after that only successful attempts raise level. All the areas mentioned and maybe a few more could/should have skill points/levels in game (ala Origins). but I stress NEVER should this ever be known/quantified/controlled by any player ever. No spending points! No lvl up que/choice etc. Why? (rhetorical question here)How many people know someone that just thinks they are the cats ass at something, legends in their own minds as it were, but just suck really bad?

    It doesnt happen often, but yah its possible. I got ping kicked once in the very fire station you were in on a very populated server. I logged into a lower pop server so as not to be 'caught' spawning in... My luck? chose a server where someone was looting the floor I was on... logged in and *pop* I was dead...

    Blood Mechanic- Rethink

    I get what he was going for... though the numbers weren't well thought out. IRL in the setting of the game, a grazing shot from a .22 that just opened flesh and not even hit muscle would have a very very high chance of being fatal (from infection not blood loss). A penetrating gun shot wound takes week(s) to recover from in hospital conditions. e.g. you have to keep the mechanics of health simple and fast to accommodate it being a game of survival not a game of recuperation.

    Alot I think has to do with ARMA mechanics. Ive suggested a revamped blood system many times, and parts of it were added. I dont think getting too frisky with the health is really needed. I do think however bring back infection will only take you down to 2000 blood, but NOT kill you. I also think food and blood bags should never give instant blood (health) back. Blood bag should give 20% the dif between current blood and max blood with a set regen at say 4-5 blood per second for say 5 min. Food will give the paltry 200-400 blood instantly but only regen more blood at say 3/sec if and only if drink, temp and food meters are at or above 80%. Whatever the regen for health when food, drink and temp is full should be 1 less than infection decrease. Another way of putting that is infection will very very slowly drop blood(health) if your well fed, but faster if you're hungry and or thursty. I do like the idea of chicken + water + tin can + fire = chicken soup and will cure infection.

    Can't Update to Correct Version

    I dont think you read the whole thread here. You need to copy the aoe2OE.exe file from the 'beta' folder the the root game folder (over writing the 'old' .exe file. When you 'manually' update, the updater doesnt copy the 'new' file over so when you launch the game it launches the 'most recent working' .exe. Follow the instructions for manual update (posted previously) and let us know how it works out.

    exactly what could server admins do with this info that would be nefarious? I mean really. Anyone and everyone could make very good assumptions of what that info is anyhow. After a few days of game play everyone is going to know what spawns where anyhow. I think you really need to take a xanax and relax. Your paranoia is quite unfounded.

    ok, here's the thing. ALL the rampant 'cheating' and 'scripting' in the MOD 'technically' isn't cheating (hear me out before the flames shoot out your fingertips). ARMA II is all about the scripts. The MOD could not exist without ARMA II's ability to be scripted. Most if not all scripts (in the mod) are executed client side. Another way of putting it, DayZ MOD IS a script... That all being said, there will be ZERO scripting in the SA. That means ALL the 'hacking' in the MOD will be non existent. PERIOD. Second, MAIN HIVE will control entire economy. That means individual server owners/'hackers' will not be able to spawn in their own equipment PERIOD (and if the do, the main hive will act accordingly). That leaves us with maybe some meta gaming, server admins getting vehicle locations, player locations etc. There are countless way to mitigate this issue. As the saying goes 'A lock is there only to keep the honest thief honest'

  12. This is the most unwieldy, front heavy, inaccurate, dirt fouling gun ever made. Yes I own one. Its the last gun on my bug-out list, actually its not even on my list. Its a horrible gun. Just sayin'

    I dont think beyond the map (in as much as its Chernarus with many changes), and the premise of the infection, will the SA and MOD be even close. relatively speaking, only a very small part of the MOD will be SA... SA will kinda look like the MOD but it will be a totally different game. Issues with the MOD will be mostly, dare I say be virtually non-existent in the SA (or at least be available for almost immediate fix if/when they become apparent).

    What? I think he is upset that this (1.7.5.1) update fubared tents again (although I believe that the sever admin can fix these problems, such as the tents duping again), making him not want to play as *we all know the problems with the duping of stuff*... Think you read that post wayyyy wrong.
  15. I disagree. Personally the only reason I use 3rd person is the view I get to see is more natural as it were. You can see a ledge you're walking on, or the edge of a ladder etc. currently if we are on opposite sides of a wall, 3rd person (as it is now) would allow us to see each other. My idea keeps the view of 3rd person for the entire map as it is now. I could see the junk pile you're standing next to (even though I could NOT see it in first person), but I could not see you. It is absolutely possible. I think it would add to the immersion, doesn't require any new control sets (game controls). Third person (for me at least and I would imagine many others) is used for easier navigation. A person is far more aware of his surroundings IRL than be conveyed in a video game. when I get into combat situations I jump into first person as its much easier to fight in first. That said, if I cant see someone in 1st person then I shouldn't be able to see them in 3rd. Yet keep the 'physical awareness' of surroundings that third affords.

    Do a search for RAM drives. There are a few of them free out there (Its software that allows you to designate an area of RAM as a 'virtual' hard drive). There are also youtube tutes for setting one for up for dayz. I went from 25-30FPS (which isnt real bad) to 40+FPS. Your specs are kind of dated as it were (slow ram, slow vid card). If the ram drive doesn't help you out enough, you could use a system upgrade;) *EDIT clarity on what a RAM drive is.
  17. Its far more simple than that. Keep choice of first/third person as it is, with one change. Ray cast third person view to first person view for zeds and players. So you would see all landscape/map features in third person (walls/trees/objects, the edge of the deer stand, or dock, the junk car etc...) You would not however see any zeds, or players if you could not see them in first person.

    DayZ Mod 1.7.5.1 Update

    @R4Z0R49 I suggested this before regarding bloodbags/food restoring health. Could a system be implemented where: Infection, forget blood bags giving a chance of infection, but regarding infection if I remember right infection causes blood loss of 3/second? Use that 'model' for blood bags/food, as explained here. Blood bag gives immediate 20% of the difference between 'patients' current blood and max blood and an increase of 6 blood/second for say 20 minutes. Caned food does not give any blood, only restores hunger meter to full. Keep blood gain from various meats the same, with the following caveat. When hunger is above 75% and body temp is above 80% then blood regens at 3/second. You have to be well fed and warm to regen health. Maybe the 'sleep' at a tent boost this? Example of blood bag usage. Patient has 2000 blood, blood bag is administered for an immediate 2000 blood (12000 - 2000) * .20 then over the next 20 minutes will gain an additional 7200 blood (6blood/sec * 1200 seconds). I am not sure on the 'balance' of the numbers I chose, they seem fitting to me. *EDIT If hunger is above 75% there is no buff to blood from eating meat (this would end spamming meat for blood?) Blood bag regen buff and meat/hunger buff ARE stackable e.g. blood bag gives +6 blood/second and well fed/warm gives +3/second would give the player +9blood/second (for 20 minutes at least)

    True that, I have nothing to say against your implied assertions. Still at its core, DayZ MOD is a survival simulator, that many also be enjoyed as an FPS game. Now however, you herp-derp CoD kiddies derp derps have to survive, as the MOD was intended. I sometimes play on a low pop server, when I want to play PvE and sometimes play on high pop servers when I want some PvP action. Thats the beauty of the community, but still at its core, the MOD was made as a survival simulator.

    You guys have to understand. The Zed issue really can not be fixed (at least to the point that everyone thinks they should be) because they run on the Arma II enemy AI. That is a core engine issue. That's why they always go to your side when they run up on you (always attempt to flank you). Arma II doesn't have 'indoor' fighting per se. All the issues are because you have to make something do what it was never designed to do (or never considered in the game engine build) and kinda 'make' it do sorta what you want it to do. At best these 'bugs' with the mod can be polished (but only to a certain extent) never fully mitigated. That's the reason for the need of a 'stand alone' to make game engine capable of indoor/outdoor ray casting, variations of AI, etc...

    A metal canteen is not meant to be heated. It is made to simply hold water. It is thin. A campfire is HOT far hotter than your stove top, and whats more the 'unburnt particulates' that 'is' the smoke from a campfire are very caustic. All that being said, a metal water canteen would NOT hold up to boiling water over a campfire very long. That being said, ww II ~ Vietnam era mill canteens did indeed have a 'cup' attachment that would indeed stand up to boiling the water, but the canteen itself never.
