"Mutation, as per the common idea that things can randomly grow new parts, is not a thing. At all." That part of my post applies to what you are suggesting.

What about Frank & Beans? Do they count?

Well, first I'm going to start by saying, the guy below has the most important point. The only reason I didn't mention it is because I thought it was common knowledge. Obviously I was wrong. Now, as for both of you making the point that "realistic" doesn't work here, then fine. Be pricks about it, but both you know damn well what I meant. I will do what the other guys said and use the word "authentic" from now on. There are different types of zombie invasion, and, in this type, there are no special infected. End of story. This is a commonly accepted theory that there are different types of zombie invasions. The walker-esque, shambling, creatures that have very basic motor functions and the need to feed, are commonly accepted as the most "authentic". As for this idea that zombie can magically mutate in like a day, no. Yes, viruses and stuff have been known to mutate extremely fast, but that is because they are just simple things. Single celled organisms do everything extra fast. Large, multicellular creatures take a VERY long time to evolve or even mutate. Evolution on this scale takes million of years, so don't give me that crap. Mutation, as per the common idea that things can randomly grow new parts, is not a thing. At all. Extreme mutations on this scale happen in humans sometimes, sure, but they happen while the baby is still in the womb, growing, and because, for some reason, the DNA got f'd up. Nature does this to see if different mutations work. If, for some one in a million reason, the mutation is actually better, it will thrive and start to take over, but slowly. On a large scale, this is evolution. So now that I've explained to you what evolution is, do understand why what you said about them "evolving" sounds ridiculously stupid.

The only tent I've ever found was at a helicopter crash site.

Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
Congrats on not dying though. I'm sure with blood that low, your characters were prone to passing out, which, we all know, is very annoying. -
Starting your post out with an insult? Classy. Getting past that, "trying to help noob and shit" is not really looking at other approaches. It sounds like you thought "hey, someone must enjoy this, why I try it", and then decided "fuck it". "Trolling people with mics" is also not another approach to fun. That, as you said yourself, just trolling. Trolling does not a game make. Also, I never said anyone who thinks the game needs improvement should leave. I said that YOU, and you alone, should leave. You obviously hate the game. You said yourself "It's gotten pretty dull." Why play a game that's dull. I'm not telling you that you must leave, but trying to help you by advising you go find a game that you actually enjoy. Instead, you come on the forum and bitch about how the game is dull and not enjoyable. You could be spending your time doing something better.
-
Then don't play, if you're just going to be a burden on everyone else. If you find it dull, go play something that's not dull. Don't stay around here and complain that it's dull. Sounds to me like you just don't have the imagination to come up with fun ways to play. Like, I have limited myself to using only an axe and pistol. The game is quite fun playing this way. Sure, I have to watch out for other players, since I would stand no chance in PvP, but I have the satisfaction of knowing that, if they kill me, they won't get anything from it. Just a wasted bullet.

Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
Well, Chero isn't that dangerous without other players. Just prone through the street, and watch the flanks, and you should be fine. I would advise taking some blood bags and morphine with you when you leave Cherno. -
Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
I don't know what to tell you man. You could try heading back to Vybor and hope the loot reset, I guess. Sorry it hasn't been working out for you. -
I'd just like to point out that I fucked my last comment up. I meant to say "I think you know what I meant", and not "I think I know what I meant". Also, I do think things like zombies that spawn and move in hordes would be cool to see, and I do think some zombies should spawn in the wilderness, but zombies that puke infection and zombies that are amalgamations ruin the immersion for me.
-
Hey, man. No need to get so defensive. The game is meant to be as realistic as a zombie apocalypse can be. I think you knew what I meant, and you are just being combative at this point, so there's no point in arguing about it.

Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
They are, literally, all the way across the map from Berezino. Why would they go there? Maybe after they have found some food to regain some health, but most definitely not in the state they are in. -
Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
Look around the houses in the area. I don't know how far from your original starting place you're willing to go, but if you head south-east to Pustoshka(you can just follow the road to get here), it also has a supermarket. -
No. No offense, but special infected are stupid for this mod. It is meant to be realistic, and not some weird mutated special monster zombies.

Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
If you can't get there, I could, in theory, come help you. I'm about four and half klicks away. It sounds far, but it's not too far if you run. -
I have only found two, ever. The second one was, actually, like ten minutes ago. It had a tent(my first tent) and an M249 with a couple magazines. I grabbed the tent, but do to my play style, and not having room for the ammo, I left to M249 for the next lucky person.

Spawn points for boxes of matches? Help!
Sandwichx replied to MaskedBaboon's topic in New Player Discussion
I believe, matches have a chance to spawn in an house, but your best bet is to look in a supermarket. Not every city has one, but they have things like compasses, watches, knives, matches, food, drinks, basic guns/handguns, and other essentials to survival. The closest supermarkets to Grishino are in Vybor, which is south-west, and Stary Sobor, which is south. I'm sure you know this already, but Stary Sobor is a high risk area, so I would advise going to Vybor. However, to get to Vybor, you either have to go pretty close the NW Airfield, or take a long route around the south tip of it. I hope this helps you. Edit: There is also a high yield building just across the road from the supermarket in Vybor, so there is more incentive to go there. -
A definitive end-game discussion. Experiences & Opinions.
Sandwichx replied to Goldstein (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The term "end-game" should never apply to something like DayZ. That in my opinion, and that is my only opinion on the subject. -
This. This 100%. Either take out military stuff, or make it so rare, when you see someone with it, you will worship them like a god. I also think even civilian weapons should be harder to find and get ammo for. But that's just my opinion.

If you can find some matches, I've found that the best place to find animals is in open fields. I have run into a couple boars in the woods, but almost all of the goats/rabbits/cows I have eaten have been found in fields. Maybe this is just me, but I've also noticed that animals seem to spawn in groups. I sometimes find one random animal, but I will often find groups of three or so animals just roaming around a field.

I had a similar issue a few day ago. I had just spawned, and I had a Lee Enfield. There was a zombie outside the barn I was in, so I wanted to kill it silently. I found a crossbow in the barn. I grabbed it and shot the zombies. When I went back to get my Lee Enfield, I decided to put the crossbow in my pack, because why not. When I tried to put it in my pack, it just disappeared into nothing.

I try my best to avoid other players. That doesn't mean I hide if I see one, or I try to stay away from towns or whatever. It means that, if I see a player, I will announce myself, but then watch them for any signs of danger. I have only ever had two interactions with other players that didn't result in my death. Now, I know this is totally my fault, and I accept that, but I do think other players could be a little nicer sometimes. I love this game for what it is, and I love that it is so hard. In fact, I think it should be harder. But I also think that the community should try to encourage each other to trust and work together sometimes. I'm not talking about, you must work with people to survive. I'm talking about, if you need to raid a town, but maybe you don't have the resources, then find someone to help. I would love to trade with other players for stuff, and I always keep items I can trade with, but I've never found someone willing to trade before, which makes me sad. As for my theory on kill on sight, look at my signature.

Atlanta, Chicago, and Seattle servers gone?
Sandwichx replied to spankimus's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I regularly play on Chicago and Seattle servers. I have not noticed this. Maybe I'm just oblivious though. -
I also play similar to this. I pass up on primary weapons and stick with my hatchet. I also carry a revolver(or whatever pistol I can find at the time). I would pick up an ALICE pack if I saw one, but I've never actually found one. This may be do to the fact that I stay away from high rick areas where they are likely to spawn. I keep my inventory stocked with food, water, medical supplies and ammo for my pistol/revolver. Whatever free room I have in my inventory, I keep stocked with random thing I can trade with. I have yet to run into someone who actually wants to trade, and not just kill me, but it's always worth a shot.

As has been pointed out, hospitals. They are the best place to find medical supplies. The only other place I've been able to find stuff like blood bags and morphine was randomly on zombies or at medical tents, but those are usually in high risk areas, so there is no advantage to going there.
