If your "truth, fact, and logic" is just a post full of personal attacks towards my person, then sure. You've provided plenty of that. Honestly, all you've been doing is trying to attack me. You haven't provided any facts or logic. You say I'm on a high horse, but it appears you're the one who thinks you're some kind of god. As for not being able to show where he's said anything about rules, please just take 30 seconds to do a search. It's really not that hard. For evidence that Rocket does not approve of loot-cycling, when asked in a interview about it, he said, "you can't encourage player ownership of the world in some ways, and then get angry at them for doing other things." However, he then goes on to say, "this is a call to arms for me and the other guys to find those exploits and tidy them up." This shows that he knows it's an exploit and he doesn't agree with it. However, he is willing to understand that he can't be angry at players for trying to use them. Here is a link to the article and video that is from. In that interview, he also gives his opinion on several others exploits. As for saying that respawning is an exploit, that is just silly. That mechanic was designed, literally, for that purpose. An exploit is when you use a mechanic for a difference purpose than the one it was designed for. And you keep bringing up this idea that private HIVE servers are involved in this conversation in any way. I've said many times already that private HIVE's are not part of this. You can do whatever you want there. I am only talking about the public HIVE. Honestly, I could pretty much sum up your whole post as "you're stupid and I don't like you". If all you're going to do it attack my words and myself, and not actually retort my arguments, then please don't come back.

(Okay, so I decided to write a story about a guy in the world of DayZ. What I did was hit respawn and start a new character. I then played through my life as if I was a real person experiencing all of this for the first time. I am going to keep playing the character, adding to the story every time I play. This is not made up. All of this actually happened to me in-game. I just wanted to show how playing DayZ really can tell a great story. Now, there is a very strong possibility that I could die. When that happens, I will try to play off my death in the story as a near-death. I will then continue writing by making up the rest of the story. That or I might do something else. I don’t know. If I get enough people who want to read this and they have any idea, feel free to tell them to me. Also, feel free to leave comments on my writing and things you think I could improve upon. My additions will be made as new posts so the first post won’t become a giant book. I don’t want suggestions like “you should find an AS50” or “you’re not very good at playing”. That’s not the point. The point is the play as if I was that character. Also, I’m sorry of this first part is too long. I actually didn’t expect it to be this long, and I think I’ll try to make subsequent entries shorter. It also took longer to write than I expected, so I’m sorry about any grammar and spelling errors. I don’t really have time to proof-read and go over them right now. Thank you for reading, and please enjoy.) Entry One, Day Zero: It begins. Entry Two, Day One: Well, I guess I should start by explaining everything. Honestly, I’m really not quite sure about anything myself, but I will give you all of the information that I have. I don’t know where I am or why I’m here. I don’t even know who I am. The only reason I am writing this is to pass the time. I am extremely bored, and this was all I could think to do. Well, I woke up today on an unknown beach. I was beyond confused. I didn’t know my own name and I had no idea where I was. I did, however, have this feeling that something was horribly wrong. I noticed that not too far away there was a small group of houses. I decided to walk over and see if any local people could tell me anything. As I stood up, I noticed a pack strapped to my back. I didn’t think much of it and walked towards the houses. As I approached, I noticed a several men out on the streets and in the their yards. The one nearest me seemed to be hopping along on the ground, like some kind of animal. I wasn’t sure what he was doing, but I walked up to him none the less. As I got closer to him, I noticed he was covered in blood and seemed to be confused like myself. I called out to him. No response. I walked closer, cautiously. Once I was within ten to fifteen feet of him, I could smell something like rotten meat, and I could see blood and flesh all over him. I slowly backed away and headed towards the next nearest man. However, as I got near this one, he turned to me. I could see he was in the same condition as the last man, and I feared for myself. My fear grew and he started to make his way towards. All of a sudden he was in a full sprint, right at me. I panicked and ran for the tree line, just past the road I was on. There was a large hill just into the trees. I ran up it. As I was making my way up the hill, I looked behind me and noticed the men chasing me seemed to be having trouble walking up the hill. I got out of sight of them while I headed up the hill farther. I kept the road in sight, and as I crested the top of the hill, I made my way back to the road. I decided to follow the road for a bit and see if I could find a town that wasn’t full of psychotic killers. It wasn’t long before I spotted a small farming village in the distance. I walked into town, hoping to find someone to talk to. I noticed a similarity to the last set of houses. Everyone was wondering around outside. Still a little suspicious, I walked closer to one of the men. However, before I was within 100 feet of him, he started running at me like the last guy. I ran away, only to attract the attention of even more people. I ran to a barn, hoping to hide there. Once in the barn, I was able to find an axe. I grabbed the axe and clutched onto as if it was my child. I watched as only one of the men came through the door. I hid in the corner, but he seemed to know where I was. As he got closer, I told him I would kill him if he came closer. He continued to approach me. I did the only thing I could do. I swung the axe. I swung it as hard as I could. Right down onto his head. He died in an instant. I gulped and dropped the axe. My hands were covered in blood. I had never killed a man before. Or, at least, I didn’t remember killing a man before. I felt terrible. I sat down for a minute and almost cried about what I had done. But then I remember who was outside. I had to do. It was me or him. I picked up the axe once again and peaked outside. Most of them had moved on by now, but a few still lingered around. I went out the back door that was facing the woods. There didn’t appear to be any back there. I ran out, trying to take the long way around the village and make my way back towards the road. One of the people saw me and started chasing me. I ran as fast as I could over several small hills, but he kept chasing me. I turned around and bore my axe at him. I told him, like I told the last guy, that I would kill him if he came any closer. He just kept coming at me, so I did what I had to. My axe came right down on his head. It cracked open, and his brains splattered all over me. I almost threw up just then. I decided to look on his body to see if I could maybe find kind of clue as to why all of these people would act like this. All I found was a can of coke in his pocket. It was surprisingly clean. At this point, I realized how thirsty I was, so I opened it and drank it. As I finished it, I noticed another person had spotted me and was running at me. This time I stood my ground, axe in hand. As soon as he got within my reach, I brought my axe down on him. It landed right on his shoulder. His collar bone snapped under my hands, and I could feel every crack and snap as the blade tore through him. There was blood everywhere. I quickly removed the axe from his body and, as he hit the ground, I brought up my axe and swung it down on his head to make sure he wouldn’t chase me ever again. With tears in my eye, and blood on my everything, I headed away from the town. I wasn’t too far from the road, and I saw a small pond near by. I stopped at the pond and washed myself as best as I could. I tried my best not to think about the things I had done to those people. But they had forced me to do it, right? There was nothing else I could do. I followed to road again for a while. It took me several hours before I found anything. Along the way, I had noticed how much trash and broken down cars filled the street. Something must have happened here. I reached an intersection that lead off to the right and to the left. I noticed a street sign, but it appeared to be in Russian or some similar language. It was obviously pointing the right to a town, but had nothing pointing left. Wanting to avoid another incident, I took the left route. It wasn’t long before I noticed it was simply taking me back the way I had come. I also noticed not far ahead was a small dirt path leading back towards the town I was trying to avoid. Since I didn’t want to go back to where I was before, I stepped onto the dirt path and followed it for a bit. It headed up a hill and into some trees for a ways. As I was making my way up the hill, I started to smell a nasty, foul stink. I kept walking, however. Soon I started to hear thousands of swarming flies. I thought that maybe it was a garbage dump or something, so I kept going up the hill. As soon as I hit the top, I saw the worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life. There was a pile of decayed, rotten corpses, with a dozen others in bodies bags near by. I ran over the other side of the hill and threw up on a tree. I wiped my mouth and got further away from the bodies. Once far enough away that I couldn’t smell the bodies, I stopped to collect myself. I remember the pack I had, so I took it off and opened it. Inside, I found a box with a few painkillers, a bandage, a can opener, this journal and a pen. I put back the painkiller and the bandage. I looked at the can opener and thanked God that I at least had something to open food if I found it. I knew I was quite hungry after everything that had happened. I put back the can opener and looked at the journal with the pen attached to the side. The covered said “Scientific Journal” in big letters, and right underneath that it was “Markus” in smaller letters. I figured this must be mine and that must be my name. I said the name out loud a few times and tossed it about in my mouth for a bit, trying to get a feel for the name. I liked it. It sounded kind of manly to me. I opened the journal to the first page and found only one thing written in it. The entry above this simply stating “It begins.” This was actually kind of concerning, because this meant I might actually have something to do with this problem. I put the thought aside and decided it wasn’t worth thinking about right now. I looked around and noticed I could see some docks in the distance. There must be a city attached to it. I headed down the rest of the hill and out of the trees. As I exited the tree line, I could see the city. It definitely didn’t look very populated, but I had to hope. I walked towards the city, but there was some sort of construction site on this end of the city. I took the long way around it, because, if this was a real city, I’m sure the workers wouldn’t appreciate me walking around on their site. I found the nearest street and started to follow it into the city proper. As soon as I got to the first intersection and could see around a building, I noticed the streets were full of those sick, murderous people. I was noticed quickly, so I ran for my life. I wasn’t far from a warehouse, so I hopped through the door, hoping to hide there. I ran to the far corner, and the followed me in. They must not have very good eye sight, because they didn’t see on the far side of the warehouse. I went out the other door, only to be spotted again by more of those people. I noticed there was a hospital right next door, so I ran there. On my way over, I lost the men around a corner. I figured if anyone could help me, it would be the hospital staff. I was disappointed to see they had all gone. However, I figured while I was there, why not grab some medical supplies, since I had no idea how long I would be out in the wilderness on my own. I found some more painkillers, a couple morphine injectors and quite a few bandages. I headed out the door only to be spotted once more. I saw an open house not too far away, so I ran there. This time they followed me in and didn’t lose sight of me. There were about six of them, and they trapped me in a corner. I used my axe to fend them off, however one of them managed to scratch me pretty bad. I was bleed quite a lot, so I used one of the bandages I had on me to stop the bleeding. Right as I was leaving the house, I noticed a camping tent in the corner. I looked outside and noticed it was getting pretty late, so it would be dark soon. I figured that if I was going to be sleeping outside, why not do so in a tent. I stuff the tent as best I could into my pack and snuck outside. I decided to try and be silent thing time. I walked slowly and silently down the road, looking for somewhere else to hide for a bit. I saw a café at a street corner with its doors open, so I jumped in there. They didn’t seem to have seen where I went, because they all dispersed about. I went to the counter and, behind it, I found a water canteen, a map and a box of matches. I figured these things would be extremely helpful. I couldn’t read the map, because it was in a language I didn’t know, but it could still be very useful. I looked around more and found a large amount of food and drink in the café. I decided that these people didn’t need it, and since I didn’t have a place to stay, I could use it more. I stuffed it all in my pack. I decided now as good a time as any to leave the city, so I ran out the back door and towards the woods not too far away. I was surprised that I was able to make it out without alerting and more of those people. Once a way into the forest, I stopped and set up my tent. I was extremely hungry by this point, so I used to the matches and some sticks I found around to make a small fire. I cooked one of the cans of food I can found over the fire and ate it. It felt good to have something warm in my stomach. I also drank a can of the soda I had found. Soda probably wasn’t the best thing for me out here, but I had no other choice. It was dark getting dark outside, and I was kind of tired, but not quite ready to go to bed yet. I felt fidgety after the event of the day, and I needed something to relieve my stress. For some reason I felt like writing, so I took our the journal with the pen. I figured I’d just keep following the format of the first entry. I’ve been thinking, and this has to be some kind of outbreak. There was military vehicles and military tents all over the place. This must be some kind of virus that makes me uncontrollably angry and hostile. I just wonder why the only bodies I’ve seen are the ones stacked up in piles. I guess it’s possible the were, well, eaten. Maybe that’s another effect of the virus. It makes you have an insatiable craving for meat. That would explain why all of them are covered in blood and flesh. Anyway, it’s getting dark and I’m pretty tired now. I’m sure no one will ever get the chance to read this, but I needed to write down what I experienced somewhere.

Entry One, Day Zero: It Begins
Sandwichx replied to Sandwichx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If anyone was looking forward to the next part, I apologize it's not out yet. My mother had to go the hospital, so I've been looking after her. -
I actually agree with you that it's a mechanic and there's nothing stopping players from doing it, but that is why I am so up in arms about it. The only way to stop people from doing it is to inform them that it is considered an exploit. And I do play on both private HIVE and public HIVE servers.

After read this, I am convinced you have not read any of the rest of the conversation before you jumped in. In fact, after reading this, I am convinced you didn't even read your own argument. "Being as you enjoy the eye rolling comparison to real life..." This quote right here tells me a lot. You brought up the comparison to real life in your last post by saying, "It also creates a realistic atmosphere..." I was simply retorting what you said. I'd also ask you to read the definition of semantics before you go tossing it around. Most of what you wrote I can dismiss as you not reading any of what I wrote, so a lot of it I won't even address, because I'd rather not repeat myself. I'll start by address your first point. I will have to repeat myself here, but since I feel like this is the core of the issue, I will do it anyway. Just because it's a game mechanic doesn't mean it was meant to be exploited. There are many games, with many mechanics, that have side effects or other uses than what they were intended for. I said that the game mechanic was not intended to be used that way, and not that it wasn't a game mechanic. I actually know this for a fact, because Rocket has said it himself. As for having to roll around after breaking your leg, I can attribute that user error. You should always carry at least one morphine on you at a time. Preferably two. If you are just spawned and haven't had time to get some yet, then you don't have much to lose, so just kill yourself and respawn. And if, for some reason, you do break your legs, and you want to live, but you have no morphine, then that's too bad. But I don't see how that applies anyway. All you did there was say something about the game that might be a retort to what I said if you only skimmed my words. But if you actually read what I said, which I'm still not sure you did, you would see that what you said has no context. Most of what you wrote next I can attribute to you not reading my previous posts. I will ask though, how do you know that there would be lots of stuff under rubble. In fact, if the apocalypse we're talking about is zombies, why is there even all this rubble you mentioned in the first place? Zombies don't break down walls and destroy cars. And even if there is all this rubble, why would there be stuff under it? The only thing I can see that would make what you said sensible, would be if you're talking about like a whole building falling apart on top of itself or something. Again, I would ask why. And if so, most, if not all, of this great loot would be crushed or destroyed. And, lastly, the final paragraph. All of this, I chalk up to you not actually reading what I have said.

So, this new zombie game got released in alpha yesterday..
Sandwichx replied to skuggan's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Wrong. It's not ArmA's engine that is the problem. It is Battleye. Battleye is the anti-hacking system that they use. It is very trusting of users not to hack, and that is why it is so easy. It was designed for the original ArmA community, who are big on modding and whatnot. They never expected it to get so popular among the average people. -
I was going to let this thread die, but since you people insist on necroing it, I will humor you for a while. You say I am out of my mind to call exploiting the game cheating. But I would turn that around and say you are out of your mind to think exploiting the game is not cheating. To say that loot cycling was an intended feature of the game is outrageous. And assuming I have hours and hours of free time on my hands each day is just ignorant. I play for a few hours every few days, if even that. Yet I still seem to do just fine. It takes me a couple of hours of play, by myself, to get enough to survive properly. So either you are exaggerating how much it takes you to gear up, or you don't know what you're doing. I'd also like to ask how looting cycling creates realism in any way? You can't walk into a store, in real life, take all of the stuff out of it and magically it restocks itself. Just like in a zombie apocalypse, when you walk into a store, there probably won't be much to find, so you have to live with what you get. Please tell me where I said anything about a "right way to play". I do not play on some roleplaying white list server. I play on either random public servers or a certain private server with some friends. I know all about bandits and hackers. I don't complain when I get killed by them. I don't enjoy, but I don't complain about it. I accept it and move on with my life. Resorting to exploits just because you don't want to play the game and spend the time to actually find the gear legit just makes you look bad. And after telling me about how my "right way to play" was wrong, you have to gall to try to tell me how the game was designed? Tisk tisk, sir. And i have no problem with people creating their own private servers where they can play and do whatever cheaty tactics they want. The problem is that you people do it on public servers, where it effects all of us. As for the idea of how it's "just a game mechanic". I've gone over this way too many times, and not just dealing with this topic. If you don't get it by now, you're just obviously just not prepared to actually listen to what I'm saying.
-
You will keep all of your stuff so long as the servers are running on the same HIVE. All public servers are run on the main HIVE, so you can switch between any of them. Private servers run their own HIVE, but they can also host multiple server on the private HIVE.

Entry One, Day Zero: It Begins
Sandwichx replied to Sandwichx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I was going to wait until the stand alone came out, because I figured it would probably be better for the story, but yesterday I had an hour or two of free time, so I decided to do it. Also, the second entry should be up by the end of tomorrow. -

Entry One, Day Zero: It Begins
Sandwichx replied to Sandwichx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As I said at the beginning, I didn't expect it the be this long. I played for maybe fifteen minutes to half an hour. I was expecting to have about a page of content. Instead I ended up with three pages worth. I will try to make the entries shorter in the future. The problem becomes that I won't have enough content to actually have my character go anywhere. Edit: I'd also like to know if you're saying that because you think it's so long you won't read it or if you're just making a comment. Because if it's too long to read, I can separate it into parts. I really would like people to read this. I spent quite a bit of time writing it. -
Dayz - ATV vs Bridge montage (flips everywhere)
Sandwichx replied to Kangaroo (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod Gallery
Yeah, ATV are always gun to drive. My best ATV on bridge action was once when I was crossing the really long bridge on Lingor Island. My ATV did a complete back flip and landed flat on its wheels And since I was in first-person, it was awesome. The trick I know of to get an ATV unflipped is that you, first, can't get off of it. Then you point the tires towards the sky and try to go backwards. The ATV should very slowly unflip itself. -
I believe what he is saying is that he misread part of the post about how you can have 500 private message. He misread it as saying that one would need to have 500 posts to qualify.

Play on private hive servers. A decent private server with decent admins has very few to no hackers. -

Standalone Server Difficulty Levels
Sandwichx replied to Heiduk's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been thinking about different type of servers myself, but less in a difficulty kind of way but more in a game-play type of way. What I mean by this is sort of like how MMO's have different server types. PvP, RP, RP-PVP, PVE. I was thinking that servers should have a select type they use, and, as long as the servers are on the same hive, players can only switch between server of the same type with the same character. So a player with a character on one type can only use that character on that type of server. Some of the types I've thought of are: PvP, survival, beginner, and hardcore. PvP is pretty obvious. That's where you would go if you want to play to have some awesome PvP. Survival is where you would go if you want to play with less bandits and more people trying to just survive as long as possible. Beginner is pretty much the "easy" type. I think I would describe is more as normal than easy though. It would be pretty much what the server are currently. A place for people to go just to play or learn how to play. Hardcore would be a beginner server with all of the settings turned to hardcore mode. -
I had no idea most of the DayZ players came from the CoD community.
-
I'm glad people like Dr Wasteland are being honored for their heroic contributions. They are the kind of people that keep the community alive. Anyone who gains the title should bear it proudly but with humility. We now have something to strive for, and it makes me happy to see that people like that exist in this world of death and undeath.
-
The only way I know of to fix this issue is to drive a car or something up to the person stuck in the sitting position and have them get in the car. They should get in normally and then be free.
-
You gotta go for orange if you want AJ. That yellow is totally more Flutters-yellow.
-
It happens all the time. Just the other day I was on a private server where a guy with his ghillie and AS50 was camping along the coast looking for people who just spawned to kill. After getting killed several times, I moved to a different private server only to find two hackers doing the same thing. There's really nothing that can be done if people want to play that way, as it is "part of the game". I just wish people had some decency and honor.

Was he standing still more? Your body temperature drops much faster if you don't move around. -
The best heli crash I've run upon was probably the one that had a M249 + mags, 2 FN FAL + mags, and a full medical box. Nothing super special, but in my months of playing, I have come across a total of six heli crashes, and most of the time they are already looted.

Looks pretty cool, but I have a few questions. What's with the Jurassic Park music? Are there dinosaur zombies? Are are there really jets and attack helicopters? And did I see a 747?
