Hatchet doesnt work as a weapon?
[email protected] replied to tufting's topic in New Player Discussion
The hatchet can be buggy at times. There was a time where i couldn't swing it after i swam but a simple relog fixed the issue. It's also funny that you need to reload your hatchet before using it. -

[HOW TO] Not Get Shot By A Player
[email protected] replied to dzuari's topic in New Player Discussion
I was in the supermarket not long ago and a player just go by his business. Didn't pull a gun on me except on the zombies outside the building. Everyone has different experience, still it's best to be cautious. Most of the time, I'll hide if there's another player walking by. Not a killer and yet to be shot at. :) -

Yeah, i've met a few passer-by who just happened to go on with their business looting the supermarket I'm in or walking past me in the opposite direction. Not everyone is hostile. :) -
I actually went far enough to break LOS at times but the infected still seem to find me all the time or keep on chasing me. I still think there should be a limit of how far/fast they should chase you. At the looney toons speed they're currently at, it's near impossible to loose them and the safest bet is to head for the ocean thus risking your supplies being dropped into the sea. Hopefully this will change when it goes into beta.

94700 is currently the latest beta patch. Is this compatible with DayZ or should i only use 94444?

Worst day in History to Start?
[email protected] replied to semipr0's topic in New Player Discussion
Sounds just like my experience but i eventually learn the map( through google search) and tips in the forum for best supply looting spots. It's not the kind of game you will enjoy if you don't have the time or patience plus don't get too attached to your character or it will emotionally drain you when your character dies and you WILL die a lot! Even learn a new lesson last night: don't be too greedy and play safe, an infected might just surprise you from behind and kick you unconcious and munch on you even when you're fully armed and equipped. Shit happens. If you have all the supply you need for the next few days, get away from the cities! Only down side, I still have to hold down the W key for a long time to reach a city after each fresh start. With over 200km and no transport, it can be a real drag. :P -

- Get to the nearest city(Chernogorsk or Elektro) and find the church and supermarket to stock up on supply and head to the nearest forest for cover. Always crawl and hold the alt button to look around when you're in the city. - if you seriously want to survive in the woods, just look for deer stands to stock up your supply. - be on the lookout for other players and hide if you hear distant gunshots. - If an infected manage to spot you, just run to the coast line and swim for a while( there is a possibility some stuff from your inventory including weapons will drop) and you will loose them easily. - check out Lets Play DayZ videos on youtube :D - if you want to kill the infected chasing you, just run inside any building, they tend to slow down on the door step so you'll have enough time to turn around shoot them. -
I actually learn the controls of DayZ through IGN's Anthony and Destin's noob video walkthrough(just hear their commentary) Next i proceed to play the ArmA 2 campaign to get used to the controls and camera before playing DayZ. First impression of this game wasn't too great, it has a very steep learning curve and incredibly difficult, nearly impossible at times. I had to learn hunting and healing broken bone from the wiki, experimenting with the infected's behavior and how to outrun them, locating the best places for good supplies through multiple deaths. You'll be a veteran after a day or two although mastering the art of long-term survival is another subject altogether. Strangely i haven't been shot by other players... luck maybe? I have players passing by the same place i was looting but never shot me and go by their business. There was a time where there was a large firefight going on and i just stay hidden for some time. Sorry if it's a little off-topic, got carried away there haha. ^^; Thing is the game gets better with each playthrough. It truly sucks at first but awesome when you get used to it.

Who else bought ArmA 2 + OP Arrowhead just for DayZ ?
[email protected] replied to Bitey's topic in New Player Discussion
Yep, i bought the game just for the mod but I'm actually trying out the ArmA 2 main campaign more for the moment. -
From my solo experience so far, I find the easiest place to loot for good supply is the church and supermarket at Chernogorsk, lightly guarded and close to the coast line. Just beware of other players looting the area, hide if you have to. In the apartment building north of the supermarket, you'll likely to find some weapons and ammo.

I dont like being alone.
[email protected] replied to DeTaiLz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Nobody likes being alone. Send me a pm or if you're on in the game, chances are you'll probably see me swimming away from zombies along the coast lines. :p -
I'm actually playing the ArmA campaign at the moment and its multiplayer but still not as hardcore as DayZ. :)

Hey, guys. Newbie here. Just wanna add something here: I too find DayZ quite unplayable a times too, there was a time i had a crossbow, revolver, a can of pasta and two pepsi only to be killed off minutes after when an infected jump me from the back near the roads, i keep firing my revolver close range and doesn't seem to have any effects on him(bad collision detection or lag?) and finally after few blows from the infected, he broke my bone and munch on me. And in other times, i couldn't even find any food and drinks even with the places where they normally spawn(thanks to the forum for the supply location tips) so I died of either starvation or dehydration. Also i find the best way to outrun an infected is to swim along the coast. I haven't found any other way since they will be chasing me with inhuman speed miles across the map( infected should be a little slower in my opinion) This game would probably play better with a friend and i did pass by some friendly/neutral players. It's pretty unforgiving and might i add even harder than Dark Souls, as most of my survival time in the game depends on luck more than skill due to the lack of crucial loot. Still I kept me playing giving hope that it will eventually get better like you guys here kept saying since it's still in alpha stage haha. :) ps. Got interested in this game when i watched several vids from IGN and kotaku so i bought ArmA 2: CO just to play this mod. Hope i don't regret it!
