Harvesting scrap metal and tires from debris and wrecks.
Meckon (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I suggest the incorporation of the ability to harvest/forage/scavenge scrap metal and possibly tires from the debris piles and vehicle wrecks that obstruct roadways and towns in Day Z. This would remove the pile or wreck and make the town more accessible to vehicles and provide materials. I realize the number of objects to harvest are finite and vehicle repairs are not so, while I would recommend decreasing the scrap metal spawn to encourage this activity I would not recommend its elimination. Improving the environment would also hint at a route any endgame or future of the game could take by providing the means to establish a base for a group, faction, or even some RP ideas of societal recovery. My preference would be to see this function necessitate a tool, preferably a Power Cutter. The idea being that whatever metal is there is not useful or transportable in its current state. This would force the player to use this tool in a primary weapon spot and make them more vulnerable to attack. Their vulnerability would in turn encourage teamwork with a buddy needing to cover. The tool would be extremely loud and likely aggro zombies and possibly players as well as shoot sparks up in the air. Would the tool require fuel? They do IRL but I don't know if that would be making it more annoying than fun. -Inspired by Arcoolka's "Real Time Settler" from Fallout 3. -
The ability to fasten chemlights to players backpacks.

Alright, my mistake. I did use search and I went through a couple threads but I don't want to go through 10 when 8 of them are about something unrelated. -

I would like the ability to fasten a chemlight to buddies backpack for night ops. Why the back when you can hold them with your pistol out? 1) It makes it harder to see beyond it due to the glare. 2) It can be seen from the front which is presumably the direction of the enemy (if you're lucky). I've seen some videos of guys using flares and flashlights like it's cool but that shit will get you murdered double-quick time on the servers I've played on. We can already interact with buddies backpack to exchange items so I imagine this shouldn't be too difficult. The problem I foresee is that since we have a variety of packs of different sizes it would have to be fixed in different places on the character dependent on the pack. My solution to this problem is to lay it laterally across the back just above the top of the pack. This way it would appear to be sitting on the pack and be at a common location on the character model. WHY? Because it gets dark as hell, nvg's are rare, flares are way to bright, and holding it front is unacceptable to me as mentioned. Those with Military experience will they are sometimes put on helmets under the helmet band when non-tactical (ranges etc), but putting in the baseball cap would look dumb so this is my compromise. -
People will assault the town for the AI soldiers weapons.

Dam.. thought of it the other day but just joined the forums today. Good idea, HighGuy420! This would be a good way to make it harder for your vehicle to be stolen while offline.

I would like to see boots as a pickup as well actually but only two quiet your foot steps to other players. Currently it sounds like my character is wearing clogs when he's walking on concrete. Don't they have rubber in Chernerous? Perhaps we could get a 'ghost walk' (as slow as crawling but walking upright) mode out of BIS in another patch? Edited for typos.

Starting with a Czech Vest Pouch?

I would like to see people spawn without any backpacks and the chance of the pack to spawn inversely correlated to its size. Alternately, if its size were edited to 8 slots people might exchange it for the camouflage improvement over the brown Coyote and improve its usefulness.
