(this isn't a complaint or request to be unbanned, just a story and a warning to the good people of dayz) My GUID was stolen and I was globally banned... despite not playing arma II for the last 3 days. :huh: So not only did I lose a 2+ month old survivor to a hacker earlier in the week, I've also become a victim of the crossfire between BE and the hackers, with both sides flipping me the proverbial bird. " WARNING: Massive cd-key theft going on [ 29.08.2012 • 17:00 ] As already mentioned in the previous news post, there is currently a massive ongoing effort by certain entities to steal people's cd-keys to then sell them for a profit. Private hack forums are full of posts of these fraudsters trying to sell heaps of cd-keys for a cheap price. We are talking about hundreds of cd-keys here, so this is not a small issue at all. The game developers confirmed that this is a huge problem right now. Their process of stealing cd-keys is quite simple: They advertise a supposedly undetected hack on sites like YouTube and the moment you download and run it (it will probably report that the hack failed to load) your cd-key is already stolen. In many cases your actual cd-key in registry is overwritten with a banned one, so you will automatically receive a global ban message on join (see below). This is done to prevent you from using your cd-key again, so the fraudsters can sell them claiming that they are valid and not in use. Note that this can be fixed (temporarily) by deleting the cd-key from the registry and reinstalling your game. While your original cd-key is not banned due to this, it might very well end up being soon when your cd-key is being used by a cheater that purchased it. This causes many players to think they were innocently banned when in fact their cd-key was stolen and used for cheating. At the very least you will often receive a "CD key in use" message when trying to connect to servers. And then there's this part which makes me suspicious (I mean... over selling it?): If you think this is false propaganda to cover up supposed false global bans I advise you to do some research on this yourself. You can easily verify this by searching for "free ***" on YouTube. You will see lots of results and almost all of them are scams. Most of them are actually quite popular and have thousands of views. When downloading them and opening the .exe file in e.g. Notepad (warning: do not actually run the .exe!), you can find cd-key related strings such as "SOFTWARE\Bohemia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA" (the registry location of the cd-key) inside. I can't see the massive amount of people with this problem just randomly downloading shit and hoping it works. it's the server. Some are all but forgotten and hardly restarted. So you have dayz (tehehe) of dead bodies and items.

QFTW any time you see a as50 tws, get close and behind the person before they know you're there. chances are the first thing Mr. Noob will do if he hears something is bring the scope up and scan the area. Meaning if you're close, this is your chance to strike as thermal sight & zoom makes scanning a close proximity very slow and disorienting. If you engage at a distance, you're screwed. That simple.

true but... that's being really nit-picky. After all you can rationalize there is a "clip" in the magazine... it's a stretch ik, but better than cringing when someone says it I don't expect it to change unless you want to teach each and every person 'clip' comes from stripper clips used in older rifles like the Mauser 98's, spring-fields, enfields, Sks's, nagants, garands and what not... hard to un-teach from the years and years of WWII movies, games, shows...

The best is when I got teleported to the middle of barbwire cage littered with dead bodies, and bushwookies all around pointing guns and laughing saying "dance little piggie, dance". Logged, server hopped, proned in the tree line facing their camp, logged back to the same server. Mk. 48 mag dump on their death pit. at least 6 kills before they realized what was happening and started firing back. They got so fustrated the hacker killed the entire server.

4 out of the last 5 armed people I had killed had AS50 TWS's. out of them one had pdw sd and another a silenced makarov. *smfh* in case your wondering the fith guy had an m4 holo SD <_< True story.

Standalone. The only sketchy thing I've done with arma is join a few sketchy no-cdkey dayz and city life servers through the arma browser without really noticing. The point of the thread was not to complain, just to reiterate one should be careful.

You just made two logical fallacies, the first being that there is anything resembling a consensus in this game beyond shooting first and asking questions later, and secondly that 75% this forum wouldn't hack bambi to bits for the piece of mind & lolz... you just have to do it with some style... like breaking their legs with an axe, then popping a smoke on their location after ... Shot a guy on an ATV with a crossbow today. Thought I missed till I heard the voice chat explode with "wtf oh shit wtf I just got shot with something... Something big i think!" <<rofl<< His whole group started shitting bricks. Four of them holed up in one of the big warehouses for 20+ minutes. Tossed a couple nades and wasted a satchel. Then we all got killed by a hacker. poopoo. I don't get why use lame insta kill cheats. If i had that power, I would scare the shit out of people.

Go play the war inc. now silence. As buggy as dayz is, it's still more fun than a knock-off CoD clone of the lowest, arcadey, sub-par quality. Seeing how the war inc was released the way it was I have little faith in any of its flaws being fixed for warz. Poor graphics, zombies are just as buggy as dayz from the alpha footage, instant weapons switches via hotkey, poor sound design. We havn't seen more than 4-5 zombies on screen at one time. the list goes on and on.

If the server really did reset right after placing the tent the slight roll back that happens on server restart may have sent it to void. Tough luck but not an unknown occurrence.

I think he just meant your English F***ing sucks... in addition to being a condescending know it all on this forum... just from what i've gathered.

pretty sure the last three updates broke gillies, broke tents, broke vehicles, caused artifacting, caused stuttering, broke and re-fixed zombies two or three times... these are pretty good indications it isn't exactly practical to even move seriously forward with the mod at this point when the standalone is in production. It's like patching a ship and having another hole pop up next to it. Be thankful he's spending any time on it at all.
