Aside from hacking and other exploits like combat logging, do whatever you please. It's hell out there and other players will give you no quarter. -
Between the retail and Steam version, I'd definitely go with Steam. It's a great client/software/thingie that is very user friendly for buying PC games and is currently having a HUGE summer sale. Getting DayZ to run properly may take some time. Be sure to check out the thread with indexed helpful links at the top of this board.

I'm near the barn south of the airfield. I've heard many horror stories of sniper teams wiping out hours of work as they camp the barracks. But, I really want to take a shot at looting the place. I have a CZ and M1911. Any advice on how to approach, which places to avoid, etc? I want to avoid contact if at all possible, but I can kill if need be. Thanks!

Zordon, heli sites are random. However, I did find one there, so it's worth checking out. And thanks for the tips everyone! Darkness fell and I was able to sneak up to northern barracks and trade out my CZ for my first ever M4A1 CCO! Very happy :) Was considering checking the south side again when a grenade went off in the fire station, so I think I'm high tailing it outta here.

Well, two guys on the comm tower, and I don't feel confident enough with my CZ to hit them from the southern barracks. Going to try to get closer if I can. Took a shot at one earlier and made him bleed, but I couldn't finish him off. Wish me luck!

Yeah, so far the southern buildings have been completely empty. Really hope the rest of the place isn't that way.

Maybe give them a despawn timer that activates upon player death? Could be for several days, even: the bases wouldn't be easy to establish and the map is pretty darn big. -

Every second you wait to fire is another that the other player can use to line up a headshot. The risk is part of what makes the game interesting. And knowing what you take away from other players is what brings the emotional guilt.

Has to do with sighting the rifle. That is, zeroing in on your target. Though I haven't done it yet in this game and am not sure if we actually mark and adjust for distance.

Quick question. I'm a newer player and am not sure which gun is better. I have a Winchester with about 45 slugs. I've found an Enfield with maybe 3-4 clips. I'm making my way steadily north for better loot but, in the meantime, which should I choose? Thanks. Edited for typos.

Welp, I've now come across a CZ and picked that up instead. If I'm going to take a shot at raiding NWAF, I figure I ought to be prepared for my first sniper battle. I'm scared :(

I try to avoid it, but every now and then I'll aggro a zed out in the middle of nowhere with no indoor cover. It's easier to whirl around and take a potshot with a shotty than to spray an entire clip of my sidearm.I guess my main concern is that as I head towards Stary, it's more likely that I'll find players. And with my less than stellar laptop and its accompanying lag, PvP can be tricky for me.

Wrong forum, and I wouldn't expect much help unless you have good loot. If you do, there's a thread in the Survivor HQ for medic requests. Asking for help here will only invite the chance of you being betrayed by some random guy. -
