OP is getting a lot of hate for being very reasonable. Not really sure why.

DayZ UI / HUD Photoshoped *UPDATED*
Shock4ndAwe replied to Madscripter's topic in General Discussion
Good work, dude. Only one I didn't like was the first one where the icons covered up the character. I don't think we will be seeing health, food and drink bars, though. I believe rocket said it was impossible. -
Security Vulnerabilities fixed by Patch #2 and Character wipe
Shock4ndAwe replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Were there any other patch notes or was this the only thing that was done? And no, I didn't meant it to sound like this was trivial and didn't need attention. I'm just curious. -
No, rocket himself said it was temporary but in the spirit of how it's going to be. The only person who truly knows what that means is him.

There's much more about the SA that I like than dislike: Likes: Stable. I've never crashed Never been disconnected Inventory = awesome. Weapon mods Can enter most buildings Customization WRT clothing/gear Level of complexity(breaking down clothing into bandages, drinking straight from pumps) Dislikes: Unconsciousness Having to eat/drink every ten minutes Loot system Level of complexity(medical stuff is supremely annoying, can opening requiring a tool, text indication system) All in all, I'm pleased with my purchase. It can only get better from here.

QFT Plenty of gear, not enough food. And no can openers.
-
Drinking is now doable without a container
Shock4ndAwe replied to Sterling (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It always had the option, it just didn't work until this patch came out. -
To be fair, it is VERY hard to see certain pieces of loot on the ground. I'm not asking for a Baldur's Gate type system where you just hold a button and all of the loot is highlighted, but perhaps make them a little easier to see on the ground. Oh, and putting stuff under beds in those military buildings sucks. What would be nice is if you could get right up on the bed, hit tab and actually be able to take the things that are under/above it.

I killed a man for a can opener... Ate all of his food and mine. Went unconscious five minutes later. :(

Keep night cycles, just fix night time
Shock4ndAwe replied to lazy2guns's topic in General Discussion
God if night time actually looked something like that I wouldn't be miserable playing at night. -
Really my only issues so far is the unconsciousness thing. Still have no idea how it happens. I actually managed to get a can opener and food/drink and it STILL happened. And the fact that loot only spawns on server restart. It makes it damn near impossible for new characters to spawn and actually make it in the world.

Charging people money to help you "make" a game....
Shock4ndAwe replied to jBrick's topic in General Discussion
You don't HAVE to give them money. Some of us, however, want to help make this game great. -
Perfect. Will makes things a little bit easier.

Things you want to see in SA updates first.
Shock4ndAwe replied to ZlobaRUS54's topic in General Discussion
First and foremost the unconsciousness thing needs to be addressed. There is no reason your character should become unconscious if you can't find food within a few hours. -
My problem is I can find decent enough loot. I know a spot where no one ever checks because it's brand new in the game and always has military stuff. But when I get that stuff and start trying to find food, or drink, I always lose consciousness. The few times that I do find food I can't find a damn can opener to use it. It's really frustrating.

You got lucky. Why rub it in?

Solution to perma knock out problem. (SPOILERS)
Shock4ndAwe replied to a.baranello@yahoo.com's topic in General Discussion
This really only works if you have a group running with you. Some of us play solo or only have friends when they can play. I have a feeling it's more of a bug than anything else. This just may be the trick that fixes it. -
My first player encounter resulted in me being shot. And then trolled over the voice comms until I could respawn. The only other times I've died are because of starvation because I couldn't find anything to open up a can. -_-

Regarding the people complaining.
Shock4ndAwe replied to ProfessorShanks (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Of course you are free to disagree with me but for the most part everything that you've done is try and insinuate that myself, and others, are simply complaining. So please don't try and take the high ground when you're hopelessly mired in the sewer. Until there's confirmation that this is working as intended, and there's no such confirmation, it's still considered a bug. Especially when it deviates so enormously from what the mod did. But really, the issue is that you like playing a certain way and I like playing a certain way. I like every person having an equal shot at success, you like people being handicapped. Whatever floats your boat, right? Wrong. While we're forced to play on the same server there is going to need to be a compromise. I'm pretty sure the devs are going to recognize that. Until then, though, I'm sure we'll be disagreeing a whole lot more. I look forward to it. -
No, it wasn't. It was certainly cruel and you may have thought it was unfair, but it actually gave every new player the same chance to survive as every other. The standalone doesn't do that.
-
Again, bull shit. What the mod did was throw you into a game where you had a reasonable chance of finding things if you could determine where you were on the map. It made no distinction on when you joined the server. The standalone does make that distinction. Finding loot is based on the amount of time since the last server restart and the carelessness of players. Supremely realistic but not conducive to fairness in a game. Perhaps this will get better once this whole hunger, thirst, sickness, etc nonsense is figured out. I don't know. But right now the system is indeed broken. What you don't seem to understand is people don't want things handed to them. The only thing we want is to have that same level of opportunity. I don't think that's unreasonable. And no, that doesn't make the game any less hardcore. It simply makes things slightly more fair. Of course those who put in vast amounts of time scavenging will be better off, but that's only fair. What isn't fair is someone having a leg up because they were able to wait for a server restart and take advantage of it.

Regarding the people complaining.
Shock4ndAwe replied to ProfessorShanks (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Pointing out what we think of as problems in a game isn't complaining. The loot system is broken. It's only going to get worse. Ideally it'd best to keep this type of loot system but it simply isn't fair to those who join a server that's been up for awhile. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not, but as is it isn't working. Second, it's only going to encourage people to server hop once they find a nice secluded spot that has loot. People are ALREADY doing it. I'm not saying that in the future this won't be a good idea, but for right now it isn't. -
Same boat, bro. I've died twice because I haven't been able to find anything to open a can.
-
Have to agree. I've only been knocked out twice and in both cases I woke up within minutes. The real issue here is that food and drink doesn't seem to do jack.
-
Easiest solution: Bring back the HUD. I understand we're going for immersion here but you can only go so far before you start to impair gameplay. In real life I know when I'm hungry because I can feel it. No such thing in DayZ. The text is unhelpful. I would rather see a colored icon: Bright green, green, bright yellow, orange, red. Perfect. Also another problem with the visual cue thing: At night you won't be able to tell. Simulators are meant to give you information so you can decide what to do. Can you imagine if MS Flight Sim made me GUESS what altitude I was at just by looking out the cockpit? That would be absurd.
