Yup happened to me too. Ran into a building at the military base to pick up ammo, second time I was in it actually. And random black death screen as soon as I was about to stop.

It could be made very realistic so you have to find the correct powder(there are hundreds if not thousands), primers, shells, bullet type/weight, and tools. Look at a reloading manual next time you are in a gun/outdoor shop, it's not exactly like baking cookies. Reloading can be very dangerous, and if it were added there should also be a chance for the rounds to explode while loading and seriously injure or kill the player. And sorry but as of right now I see no way that it would be realistic. Sitting in the woods in the middle of a zombie apocalypse while jittery, hungry, thirsty, and what not and trying to carefully prep the round add the powder, and seat the bullet would be unlikely. And as far as using spent brass that way fired, that's all fine and dandy if you're playing fallout, but how are you going to clean it? You can't use dirty brass, it can jam, or just plain not seat the bullet or primer when you try to reload. Plus would you really want to carry around a can of gunpowder in your backpack during a survival situation? I wouldn't, if that pack gets a little too close to the fire... or if a bandit decides to have a little fun with you and lights it on fire/forces you to eat it...

Well even if it is a minute or two so what? You could always look away if it's really a problem, or go to desktop. Or they could make it simply so that if you hit esc it takes you out of it.

I like it. And being able to break bino's in half and give half to a friend.
-
They could always make different types of bikes... maybe even trikes. Road, mountain, cruiser... And you could have a rare chance of finding a bike with a rack on the back which would allow the attachment of a backpack, or even two as it can be done, giving it storage space. This way when you leave it somewhere you are risking losing more than just your slightly better than walking transport.
-
That would probably require getting either BI to leave battleye or getting them to work with steam, I don't see either one really happening. Though if we could find a real way to permaban them it would really help the mod because they would most likely buy a new copy and further fund the development :)

I like the idea, but I think the larger packs should definitely take up more slots, or even replace the backpack. If you look up the large military medical kits they are often a full backpack, which would also put a big decision on a player, and help those who decided to play as a medic. Plus I could be wrong on this one, but isn't the distinction between the protector and the medkit the fact that the protector will actually protect it's contents? Such as if you fall and have it in your pants, it will be ruined but the contents won't. With the medkit everything inside gets ruined if it does.

Optionally modifying DayZ's game to promote teamwork / civility through common purpose.

If I recall correctly I think Rocket has already said no way to safe zones. And I definately remember back during the mod a few groups/clans that did make safe zones on their servers and trading areas. They would organize it on the forums so that there would be a specific location and time, usually a small city. They would then clear it out, and their members were the only ones allowed to be armed. If someone spawned in and didn't drop their weapons and comply they'd be shot. And yes some sort of group play is fun, but the apocalypse is lonely. You can always try connecting with players when you find them and risk your life, that is to some extent the point of this game, you can play it safe and hide, or risk everything and do the wiggle. -
I agree, but I think the way to fix it is by increasing the timers. If people know that they will get say 5 minutes added everytime they log out and in within say a 5 minute window they will be less likely to do it. They log out of your server, log into another and wait 5 minutes to move, then log out of that and log back to the first and have to wait 10. Who is going to want to wait 15 minutes to get the drop? Plus sometimes that fails on people, especially if you move. I ran into a guy at bolota, told him to surrender and he was sitting where I found him, so I ran up to cuff him and he logged out before I could. I moved away to watch the spot, looted a barracks moved again and saw him start running across the airfield from a different location. A few sks shots later and he wasn't going to log out on me again.

You could even have the possibility of adding in generators and or batteries, or even rigging up car batteries to some form of sound system, either car alarm or fire station, that way you could set it off, run off and loot while all the zombies and players are running to the car.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE ME.....and every survivor

Even if he has full creative control, I honestly don't know. It's probably an issue more with the game engine than the game itself.... Same arma engine, same arma movement. -
I wouldn't say that carrying two rifles is normal, and I'm sorry if that's how it sounded. I was trying to show that it is possible and can be practicle. Really it's a way to help the lonewolf playstyle. Groups can have dedicated snipers, looters, medics, and mules. But Lonewolves need to play all roles themselves. So being able to carry say a mosin and m4 can be a balancing point. And yes it could/should balance out to less gear somehow but that's why I was thinking a dragbag would work. But honestly there are back packs that are large enough to store an m4. This could also mean not carrying a sidearm. Really as the game is now, you can easily survive without carrying food or even water if you stay in areas that have loot, which means that you need to only really keep guns/ammo and med supplies. And with a possible ~70 storage slots in total you could carry a lot, and the only thing that is size based in the system is weapons. A can of beans takes up the same amount of space as a speedloader, pistol mag, drug injector, etc. A fnx takes the same as an ammo can, 2 canteens, medkit, 2 sticks, etc. This doesn't make sense. I know I could fit a 1911 and over 300 rounds into an ammo can easily with room to spare. (not an fnx I know but the 1911 is thinner and longer so it's close) So why can't I stuff an m4 in a backpack? It actually looks almost the same length as the giant rediculously stuffed mountain pack. Heck for that matter why not be able to take the m4 apart and store it? Then you'd even have to open inventory put half in your hands and then attach the second half. wow i did not mean to hijack this thread... i need to get off the forums.

How would that be fixable? Require different emails? Solution, new email. Require different ip? Solution, change it. Require different credit card? Solution, Prepaid card... plus steam takes the payment not bi Besides I don't imagine any business is going to lose money to prevent multiple accounts. The only games I have seen that really care are free to play. and thats becasue they make money as soon as people buy things in game with real currency and then there are no refunds.

Moral and Morale are two different things. Morals are a set of values, Morale is more of a state of mind. Now you could make it about a karma system, or possibly make it more intellegent if possible with this programming. I mean that instead of it being based on a single set of parameters, it learns what you like to do, so the more often you do the same thing the more you get a boost. So you keep killing zombies you get a boost. You keep killing players you get a bost. You keep helping people you get a boost. You keep looting you get a boost. Etc. And no boost =no penalty. Boost = something only slightly helpful such as a little more stamina, a little more time before starvation, or being able to yell slightly farther away.
-
Or you could be able to use sticks and rope/rags to craft a makeshift bipod. Or put a server reset countdown into the game. But with your plan what happens if you don't pick it up? If you walk away is it still linked? That would be a great way for people to stash stuff. OOO and shooting could ruin things in your bag, the rifle smacked against your damaged waterbottle and broke it now your bag is soaked and that powedered milk and rice are ruined, and the can opener is now rusty and damaged, and the ammo is all ruined because the gun power in the cheap russian surplus ammo got drenched because the cases weren't roll crimped at the original factory.
-
Yes stamina will help alot. And the inventory size system boggles my mind I have no clue how you would fit 6 ammo cans in a backpack, and especially be able to walk if they are fully packed... OOO Or an ammo can in your pants or vest... And no the weight plus the "dayz running style" makes no sense, but it doesn't make sense anyways. I think you can travel waay to fast. Perhaps the heart attacks will help that too though. Plus it may not be comfortable, but then you also have to consider that you are not focused on comfort, you are focused on survival. Plus if we look at that what about sleep? Wow I am getting off topic. Ok, I'm done. Two guns I agree with. Look at snipers who carry a scoped rifle and an m4, I know not all do, largely because you can swap out between a sniper and a spotter. But I know people that if there were a zombie appocolypse would take a sniper, a carbine/smg, and handgun for patrols and loot trips. Scoped rifles are not ideal in a building, and carbines are not ideal to watch that building before entry.

I have tended to notice that most doors open in a realistic direction. I know its different in some areas in europe, but here in the US is is actually building code that dictates doors. And all doors to the outside must open out, that way in an emergency people don't get trapped by pushing against the door, interior doors usually open inward only due to space constraints. If it doesn't make a difference with space it will tend to open towards the buildings exit.

hmmm. Yesterday I did that exact sort of thing... saw one newer guy being chased by zombie... I follow to try and help, guy meets friend, they kill zombie. I yell hi, they turn and aim. I go prone and say friendly, hi, please lower your gun. guy lowers gun, zombie hits me from behind and one of them tell me there is a zombie behind me, stand and shoot it turn to kill another and get shot in the back of the head... Earlier the same day I helped a guy try to save his brother. It all depends on the person you run into and/or what they need.

Out of curiosity, how would you holster a weapon in the front? I can't picture that, unless you are talking about a 3point sling which would be out of place on anything but millitary rifles, and even then usually is only seen on special ops because it can be a pain to deal with. As for being on the back pack it does seem strange to me that you don't need rope to attach it, not all guns come with or are capable of using slings... and how the heck do you just stick a fire axe or bat on your back? Sorry I really was curious about holstering on the front.

Please fix the problem with the buildings, etc.

Oh so that's why I kept randomly dying in elektro yesterday! And I thought it was a hacker. Anyways it may be an alpha... but we still had to pay for it. Most developers don't charge until the final release. ;) SO if we paid for it is the "it's an alpha" excuse really valid, even though we knew it was an alpha? -
No, that would be in place of a backpack. Plus sorry but I can't help but point out the overexageration, 200 cans? The largest backpack has 35 slots? Plus beans are usually in 16oz packages, which means one pound... 35 means only 35lbs, most excersize weight vests are 15-35... volume is more the issue, because I would guess most people would have no problem hauling 50lbs in a decent pack. 200lbs though? For any length of time it would be an issue.

You can have as many characters as you want, and it's really simple! Just log into your first character and run to the closest zombie/player and let them kill you, and wait to respawn, repeat as desired for more and more characters! Though going back to taking this as a serious suggestion, the only way i could see it working to prevent hoarding/muling/item stashing is that one character is non saving. If you die you can restart with a new one like normal, but whenever you log off your charecter simply vanishes from existence, or drops dead on the spot. And in order to log in with an existing character you must wait at least 30min. As for 2 people using the same account, well sorry, that's how companies make money. You need multiple steam accounts, same as stats on any other game. Plus legally the agreements that you check off on are usually stating (correct me if i'm wrong) that they are licensing the software to you. Aka, one person, not multiple, which means that if they really wanted to (which is too much of a problem/cost to do) sharing an account is a breach of that contract and could result in whatever penalties are outlined.

Have you ever tried carrying a heavy scoped rifle in a dragbag on your back? I have, along with ammo, target stand, bipod, targets, and a shotgun with ammo for that as well. You pick it up by hand and think "There is no way i'm hiking 5 feet with this let alone a few hundred and then up a steep hill that requires 4wd trucks to drive on." Then you sling it on your back and start thinking, "Wow I wonder if I can stuff anything else in it before I go, because I can barely feel it."

I just want to point out that most hunters I know would rather have that pocket knife for gutting than the "hunting knife" you posted. The reasing being that it can actually be more difficult to gut with a large blade because it's harder to control, and you are more likely to cut organs open which could spoil the meat. I'm trying not to go into too much detail, but the smaller one would be faster, easier, and safer. Which is why most "gutting" knives that makers sell with that gimmick are no more than 3" sometimes more but usually your bigger brands such as gerber, sog, coldsteel, and others keep them smaller. And largely blade materials, sharpness, full/partial tang, etc., and training have more to do with damage than the knife itself. Someone highly training with a 2" karambit could quickly and safely dispatch a zombie better than a housewith with a kabar. Plus why not add in the possibility of cutting oneself? Even the best trained fighters can hurt themselves on knives, especially if there is no hilt, like most kitchen or pocket knives. My last note is that most real "survival knives" such as the bear grylls gerber that was shown is just a combat or pocket knive rebranded and put at a higher price point to make people think they are special. And the hollow ones are usually cheap junk that would break if you tried to use it to cut a branch let alone a bone.

If you want to look at the story (which i have seen and even recall being noted in a interview with rocket from somewhere) where the zombies are all regular people that are infected you have problems already. First off the freaky jumping attack animation that seems to be only in the female zombies is entirely unnatural and shouldn't happen. Secondly different people have different tolerances so while one zombie may be a 1hit kill another may take 10, and it should be random. There have been plenty of real life stories with occurances like this, for instance I do know of one with a law enforcement officer who was shot 5 times during a traffic stop, got back in his car chasing the suspect, followed on foot after he bailed, and still tackled him and waited for backup/medics... what about a zombie like that? Thirdly some zombies should be randomly dropping dead of the virus, there has been research done, (sorry i don't remember where/who) that a "zombie virus" is possible, but due to human needs the entire event would only last a few days due to starvation and dehydration... note how much your charecter complains about food/water. And with any sort of zombie virus you would be safe to assume that it would be coupled with an immense fever, which is what has altered the brain by heating it soo much that it kills off cells, which also means that dehydration will come that much faster because the bodie would be attempting to cool itself by sweating, or it would die even faster. (this could also be coupled with the sleeper zombie idea, being that a zombie could drop unconscious and later awaken.) And lastly different hits to different places should definitely matter, as well as your charectors health. If you hit an already damaged body (ie. zombie virus) with a wrench in the head it should die, but an axe to the arm/leg should not kill immediately.
