I'm on my 4th time reinstalling ArmA 2: CO because no matter what I seem to do I cannot get DayZ to work. I've followed guides, tried SixUpdater/Launcher and done it manually. No matter what I do, I ALWAYS get the exact same error: "Connecting failed." All the servers have the yellow question mark icon and no matter which one I join, they all tell me this. I'm absolutely sick of reinstalling this game over and over because it takes 3-4 hours to complete the install just to start over from square one. SO... I've decided that I'm going to leave the installation to the professionals. I'm currently in the middle of a clean reinstall of both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead. Once they have finished installing, I will not do a SINGLE DAMN THING unless otherwise instructed by either a member of the DayZ Dev Team or the DayZ Forum Team. I realize that they are probably busy people and resorting to this method will most likely take a long time but at this point, I don't even care. I've tried my absolute best, but I simply cannot get it to work and if I have to do one more reinstall of Arma, I am going to chew up my computer and swallow it whole. My copy of Arma 2: CO is a Steam copy and I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium, if that means anything. I will post here again once both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead have finished installing to inquire as to what the FIRST STEP to installing DayZ should be. I intend to take this BIT by BIT to prevent any and all screw-ups this time around. Alrighty, we're halfway there. Arma 2 just finished installing via Steam but I'm not even gonna TOUCH it yet. Now I'm onto installing Operation Arrowhead...

The Last Straw! - "Connecting failed"

Oh shit, my bad, fellas. I'm gonna necro this thread just to let you guys know that the problem was with my router. I needed to open my ports. After that, it worked fine. -

I like how you made it look like someone just confused an elephant with an iguana. Be reasonable. [sAS] looks almost exactly the fucking same as {SAS} and can easily be mistaken at a glance. -
Completely unnecessary mudslinging.

Stupidest fucking thing I've seen today. Please enlighten me as to how the addition of a taser would turn DayZ into APB: Reloaded. Go ahead, humor me. Is there a food/water system in APB? How about sickness and broken bones? The ability to put up tents and store items? What about the most basic element of DayZ: a world full of zombies? No? Then fuck off with your "THIS SUGGESTION HAS SOMETHING THAT I'VE SEEN IN ANOTHER GAME AND THAT MAKES IT BAD".

I just made a thread like this about an hour ago. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/43575-player-xxx-died-of-a-heart-attack/

My apologies if this idea has been stated already or if this isn't even possible to do, but I see no harm in sharing it regardless. You don't have to be an avid DayZ player to know that people disconnecting at the slightest hint of danger (most likely when they realize you've got your sights on them) is a problem that's becoming frustratingly common. But way back when I tried out "World of Warcraft", I can remember that there used to be a brief countdown before you were logged out. I was too nervous to ever exit the game without letting the countdown complete, fearing my account would somehow corrupt or something. With this in mind, what if a sort of "timer" was implemented for safe logout in DayZ? Now I know what you're thinking: Hitting Alt+F4 can instantly close the window, bypassing any timer and allowing the logger to safely exit, right? But what if (and here's the part I was iffy about if it were possible) that users who abruptly disconnect without using the Timer and then relog on, suddenly die of a "Heart Attack"? It might even discourage server hopping by slowing down the speed at which they can disconnect/reconnect, albeit for only a few moments, but I digress. Anyway, what do you all think? [EDIT]: Alternately, as Ohelig brought up: "the character shouldn't disappear until that timer (now taken over by the server) hits zero" to give the other player/zed a chance to finish off the logger.

What's stopping CQF from doing the same to that server as well? You mean "become part of the problem". Whatever you say, Sam Fisher. I fixed that one for you. -

Fix'd that for ya. Also: Have fun getting your server blacklisted over and over for illegal banning. -

Except that, thanks to CQF's actions, you wouldn't be able to do that because most (if not all) of the helpful equipment is now hoarded off the map. -

You may want to actually say what's on your mind instead of being vague, cause it makes it seem like you have no idea what you're talking about. If you want a legitimate response, plainly state whats on your mind. Now try again. -

Oh boy, a MEME! That'll show me! Boy howdy, nothing says "Look how mature I am" like throwing an internet meme with some WORDS on it at the end of your post. You sure hammered in your point! Which was what, by the way? That the anti-CQF couldn't stop the CQF? When did I imply that they did? If you could actually read, you'd see I was quoting Landshark, who explained that the anti-CQF was designed to stop the CQF. Then again, if you could actually read, you'd have noticed that post where I said to actually think before you post. But then we wouldn't be having this discussion, now would we? And since you seem to value your little "memes" so much: -

Did you notice at all that this doesn't solve a fucking thing? If the CQF were created to stop bandits and the anti-CQF were created to stop the CQF, then something else is just gonna have to be created to stop the anti-CQF and so on. This changes absolutely nothing. Its just an endless cycle that leaves the other players left out of all the hoarded items. Please actually think before you post the first fucking thing that pops into your head. -

There's a fine line between "offering up a challenge" and "a clan hoarding everything on a server". If you honestly think that what they're doing is a normal thing that should happen on all servers, then I'm wasting my time explaining this. -
Sounds like another case of an admin getting butthurt about other users finding his stuff. You can "request to have this thread locked" all you like, but this isn't something you can just shovel under the carpet.

Meepo (DayZ) replied to dark6-6's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Except that that's exactly what they're doing. Did you not see RedFaction and Hashisx's posts? They intend to degrade the experience for others. In fact, most of the people in this very thread are from CQF trying to defend themselves by making the admin look bad so that they can continue to hoard and server hop. -

Meepo (DayZ) replied to dark6-6's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I actually agree with what the admin did and believe he was justified in doing so, even if he did it rather ungracefully. After all, what is an admin to do when some lousy clan is ruining his server for everyone else? RedFaction and Hashisx just drove the nail into the ground with that little "HUEHUE WE'RE GONNA MAKE IT EVEN WORSE FOR EVERYONE" comment up there. If you're paying for the server, I think we can have a little lenience with the rules concerning situations like this. -
B-B-B-BUT IT WOULD RUIN THE REAAAALISM. I WANT REALISM IN MY GAME ABOUT FICTIONAL ZOMBIES. Holy shit, you guys are terrible. Go ahead and keep saying things like "It would take more than just a defib to bring someone back to life" but in REALITY, a simple bandage won't save you from a bullet wound either, due to possible infections or internal damage. But no, I guess its fine that a bandage can heal ALL horribly-bleeding gunshot wounds. Realism at its finest. And anyone who says "This isn't [insert game name here]" is 12 and afraid of change.

What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
Meepo (DayZ) replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I like how you put "discourage" in quotes to imply that I'm trying to shut down PvP completely just to reinforce your point. Clever. And are you familiar with the word "hyperbole"? Here, I'll get the definition it for you: "Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally".I think you're taking things slightly too seriously to make yourself look better. Just slightly. It's cool, though. If it makes you feel better to pretend you're a big, bad bandit up on your hilltop then you can go right on. Eventually, Rocket will do find something that will discourage banditry and you'll get bored and leave.
