What kind of traps can you think of?

Alright time to add a few odd ball ones that for some reason have popped into my mind. . . Items needed: 1 lawn mower blade, 1 electric motor (or starter), 1 car battery, some kind of base, + string or pressure pad for makeshift switch! = for zombie or foolish survivor chopping fun! ( I thought of a few ways this could be built / deployed. On the ground in a minor depression for example or just on the surface. Activation would start the motor of course making the zed yell as it was chopped up, maybe pulling others into it. The motor would run until it burnt out or the battery died leaving zed parts scattered about.) Items needed: time to chop and make a rollable large log or fill a barrel with something, hill / stairwell, hold in place block, + string = flaten or knock zeds outta the way like bowling pins! Items needed: 1 bottle with cork, 1 blood bag, O scent ole human! aka sweat maybe a bit of blood! (not sure how to collect lulz), + hungry zombie! = just toss O scent ole human bottle at zed thus breaking. Zed screams and moves about thinking there's something to eat, but his buddies confused come due to the noise and tear him to pieces looking for their meal! Items needed; 1 rock; 1 can; string, + string tied in a snare that stays stuck to leg! = early warning device / temporary zed confusion / unless stuck to zed in first place! (Basically was thinking for mob control if hung on a zed, aka the group hears the rattle and wanders towards it until loosing interest or Zed after a bit, gets angry at the rattling can and tears it off.) Items needed: a bit of gas, 1 bullet, 1 ole bean can, matches = a variation of a lure away for zeds / survivors (fill ole bean can up with gas, put bullet in the bottom, light gas and walk away. After heating up a bit the bullet would go off and draw zeds to the noise.) Items needed: 1 engine block or something heavy, pulley, chain, rope for snare / trip = for different types of dead fall devices or drags. Or to flaten the unsuspecting zed or survivor by dropping it on them. Items needed; gate or door, something heavy, pulley, chain or rope, + pressure pad = rigged in such a way to fling or launch that unsuspecting guest away! Items needed; 1 working generator; jumper cables or wire, string or pressure switch, + metalic objects to hook to! = ah yea theres nothing like freshly zapped zed in the morning is there? Ops sorry unsuspecting survivors! (would run until fuse is blown or generator blows up from short) Items needed: 1 hatchet, method to make hole in handle, string, doorway = attach hatchet to ceiling above doorway and use string to trip! For solving those splitting headaches the zeds or survivors give! Items needed: 1 fresh spool of razor wire, 1 electric motor, 1 battery, string / pressure switch = wire is stretched out on the ground and tied with the break away string on one end other to the motor. When tripped the wire is pulled loose by the motor and due to the springy ness of the razor wire wrap around the victim and dragging them a bit towards the motor before it runs out of power. Humm had at least one more, but I can't remember it right now. With everything of course you would need a toolbox probabily and something to cut the string with!

    Death needs penalties. Suggestions welcome

I dunno starting with near nothing seems like a decent punishment as it is. . . Trouble is some servers don't spawn stuff quite right. Some have a ton of stuff spawning in all the time while others just don't. I don't know if someone is just trying to manipulate the spawning of goods or not. . . With the flagrant hacking going on in game too, for me it's kinda pointless to even find rare loot items. I think my last 3 characters have died from some sort of hack, despite surviving 5+ days. US114 for example has a lot of guys running different hacks on it . . . US52 has a few too and some guy spawned some sort of rocket pod and was using it to destroy buildings one time. So lets see here so far the hacks I've ran into have been the following. . . A wall / terrain removal so they had a flat landscape to shoot from. . . A warp in trap type hack. . . Oh s. . where did all these bear traps come from or 20 zombies *sighs*!?!? And the disappearance of the whole landscape which was fired more than once to ensure the whole server was wiped. Others were if I tried to pick up anything I'd get warped here or there for no dam reason leaving me with this where am I now? Course if I laid anything down it went poof. And one of my characters has been shot by a mini-gun. . . On some servers where the free for all or KOS is going on it can get quite challenging to actually just find a simple can of food and a pop and get the hell out of town. Especially if the server is already having loot issues. . There's been a number of times where I had to wander inland and dam near starved just trying to find something since I was just unlucky enough to be maybe 5 - 10 minutes behind the last guy that went though. The hording of gear is crazy though, there were times where I've ran into 10 or so tents on US114 and there just seems to be tents every where on that server. Including some weapons that I don't even think are ingame. And yea feel free to try to raid there if ya want. . . All I can say is good luck since I hear someone has been running thunderdome there. So where dose a legit player go? To play these days? I really no longer give a crap about loot. Talking to others ingame isn't there anymore (through sidechat.) And it gets kinda pointless for me to actually try to repair a car or drop a tent. I carried one for a long time on one character then thought, what for? So the whole interesting aspect has been experimenting or prodding the AI changes the dev team has done to the zeds or just finding enough starter gear to survive. After that I trend towards screwing with the zeds after patches. Sry had my fill of PVP along time ago, so there is very little interest there. Anyway I do agree with many of you there needs to be a bit more content added. The whole radio idea thing might be a fun / risky thing for scavenger hunting. . . building things would be interesting too. Writing messages on walls or on something might be interesting too. I always thought building up a rolling wreck of a car that maybe allowed you to hold one spare jerry can and a tire might be interesting. Maybe allow someone to reinforce it with corrugated metal or something. But a lot of these ideas have already been mentioned and then some. As far as the bounty hunting goes, if they just implemented a 'who killed who' type thing. . Others could form groups and go hunting. Course then again I'm sure someone would find ways to abuse that too.

    Radio, Beam Radio, Amateur radio

I suppose doing some RDF or Radio Direction Finding might be interesting for treasure hunting, passing coded messages, radio shows, or for bandits who might want to make a trap. Yea you can get directional signals from some radios if you have the right antenna setup. Also there are a ton of radio towers about the island so as long as the radios were set up with a few channels or frequency tuner of some type. I think it wouldn't hurt allow for those interested in maybe taking a fixed antenna site over, maybe filling up a generator there with gas and allowing them to do their own radio show if they wanted to. Or use the site for a 'global' repeater if you like. I never had a problem with people asking this or that over the global side chat, infact it's more or less a dual edged sword. Some folks try to lay traps for others to fall into, while others help each other out. *shrugs* My only other issue is I would like the option to turn the thing off if it gets annoying and I'm trying to do something with out being distracted. Actually I got to thinking about this a bit more and I suppose someone could carry about a handheld radio maybe keep the range to a couple km or a tad more. And if your using it to talk to others maybe it gets hashy as you get close to the max range or something. Hills are where these radios would hit max range, unless you set up a repeater for example. . . But to be honest I don't know how complicated one would want to get with this type of setup. I suppose they could do a recorder type set up to so you can make your own prerecorded messages too. Still it might make things a bit more interesting for those looking to make contacts or friends in game. . . Similar to what amateur radio operators do in real life.
  4. Eh they must be Baz. *shrugs* But after seeing someone who had a OCD with cleaning just about kill themselves with the stuff. . (Sorry it was with a prior profession / job I had.) I thought it might be wise to at least say something. Should someone get the 'bright' idea that this might work in real life.
  5. I often times kinda laugh at this whole server hopping BS. . . It reminds me a lot of the whole argument over Bandits having some simple ID tagged to them rather it be a bandana or something else. Some things that seem to be forgotten about with players may be going to another server because of. . . 1.) performance issues with the first server they picked aka lag. Rather that be because someone just logged in and is using kite string and cans for a f'ing modem. Or the server is having other latency / interface issues. In otherwords maybe the admid bumped it up and it just can not process that many players with out issues. 2.) it's night and they CAN'T SEE 3.) their regular server hasn't been updated or is down for some reason. 4.) the server they like to be on is full. 5.) hackers have invaded the server 6.) their friends have gone to a different server and they want to be with them. 7.) others I might have missed? These questions I feel need to be asked. . . For all the challenge the skript kiddies seem to think that makes DayZ . . . And all the bawling about how unchallenging it is . . Well which is it going to be? Use hacks to make the game super easy mode? Or actually try to survive DAYZ as it stands? If some of you feel that strongly about server hopping then hunt the player with in the mechanics DAYZ has! Sorry folks but sometimes I just don't understand why someone who runs scripts think their justified in doing so in any fashion and for any reason PERIOD. I think the OP is just expressing their frustration with those running hacks. I don't agree attacking the mod's designers or the mod is the way to go though. But over all the general rule is NEVER BECOME ATTACHED TO YOUR LOOT. And time and time again many here that frequent this forum ARE WAY TO ATTACHED TO 'THEIR' LOOT even if the loot in on some other F'ing server and hasn't been looted yet?!??!
  6. TanX for the most part I don't have a problem with what your suggesting, however there needs to be somewhat easy or 'teaser' level for non hardcore players. The game as it stands right now takes sometime for one to get anywhere, not that I'm saying that's bad mind you. Still I think some less than hardcore players need a chance to be able to start somewhere and figure out, ok how does this all work, and rather they like this pace or that. The biggest advantage any players have right now is they can just about go anywhere and find suggestions and where EVERYTHING spawns. Which to me has taken alot of the challenge of DayZ away. . (Well and to be honest so has the hacker infestation too. Who for some reason just are not up to the challenge DayZ represents as it stands right now. Which still tells me there are tons of folks out there that are way too attached to loot. Sure some are looking to do things out of spite, pettyness, vengence, laughs, eh the list of reasons here can go on forever. .) I have read some of the other suggestions as far as stuff spawning out in the woods and have often times wondered why not a pack of wild dogs or other animals. It would seem like dogs / a current and common domesticated animal would go back to it's instinctive ways once all their owners have turned. They wouldn't just hunt humans but probabily the local game too. Plus rabies might be a issue? And no rabies isn't surviviable unless you know how to make the vaccine. Some of the things in DayZ rather those realize it or not are really not that common in your every common day store. These Iodine tablets ya speak of, light sticks, and even flares; sure you 'might' find them in a local camping store. But in the average supermarket? Eh. . . I don't have a issue with the pots / pans idea either, boiling water is about the only way an average joe someone will get it for the most part clean. But if they impliment a 'weight' mechanic into the inventory system, there might be the answer to just having a 'pot' on hand. (They might have to still worry about heavy metals but that is another matter.) And chlorine wouldn't work at all, I'm sorry guys but while it is a good germ killer, it also dosen't know the difference between germs and humans either. (Water processing plants use different methods to pull the chlorine back out of the water or neutralize it.) On the other hand if matches will light a fire, why can't a flare? Both burn rather hot! And yea there are a few different methods to light wood without matches if you know how. I'm not saying any of the ideas you have are bad, it's just I've seen too many hardcore players ruin games in the past and later on end up leaving because no one wants to play anymore. All I'm saying is there needs to be a easy to hard scale in it. And since everyone is a tad different some are going to need some kind of harder version to play to stay interested. After all isn't being challenged why most of us keep playing? Take for example the Rainbow Six series that turn into a drag because the hardcore types thought it was too easy to do, well what was UBI Soft's answer to this? Instead of making the AI more realistic or tossing in a hook here or there. They simply reduced the AI's reactions to something way faster than any human could even react to. With there instant kill 'laser' like rifles. So as soon as the AI saw you, you were dead before you even heard the shot go off. And the AI wasn't afraid of anything either, in other words it had no desire to really survive and behaved more like a robot than something worried about survival. Arma is a bit like this too with the AI solders and what not, they can see though a lot of stuff and still instantly kill you. In some ways it's alot worse since if you shot one person in the squad the whole group and other squads instantly knew exactly where you were with out really scanning any area and could 'dispite the travel delay, with laser precision shoot and put a bullet in your bean'. The development team as far as I know do scan though the various suggestions too so don't think anything you've written isn't at least looked over once. If their being quiet, it's probabily because their busy programming or hashing out issues with the software and ideas their using to bring the game to life.

Lee enfield Vs. Fn Fal & M14

Yea if memory serves me right I believe the M-14 is a long stroke piston gas operated action. Not that it matters really. Still I left out a lot of stuff while trying to explain some things. I believe my posting specifically states the FN-FAL is a short stroke piston gas operated action even in the 'Para' version in where they took the bolt carrier's springs out of the stock and made them shorter in the receiver. Colt M1911's are recoil operated and I think Beretta M9's are lever / lock delayed blowback if my memory is right. Don't remember what the Maky is. . . probabily some variation of a blowback. Alrighty as I've said enough and some of this is going outside the OP original intended posting.
  8. Who cares?

Lee enfield Vs. Fn Fal & M14

Jeesh guys. . . Barrel length usually effects velocity more than anything when it comes to guns. Powder charge has some effect too and rather it burns fast or slow upon detonation and rather that charge provides somewhat even pressure as the bullet travels the barrel or drops off rapidly before the bullet actually left the barrel. (Granted I admit there is a spike in pressure as the bullet is being pushed out the cartridge!) Another big big factor is how well the bullet seats in the barrel as it is being shot out thus keeping that pressure behind it for as long as possible while traveling the barrel. The action it self has little to do with it when it comes to velocity in fact I think the energy transferance there is less than 1 percent. Now here is the rub. . . in a blowback type action (aka most semi auto 22lr are blowback actions) it's the weight of the bolt / spring pressure / hammer spring pressure that keeps that action closed for as long as possible until that little bullet reaches close to the end of the barrel as possible. But not all automatic reloaders have blowback type actions. . . most centerfire rifles are gas operated, some are recoil operated. M-16's for example are gas operated or more specificially direct impengement gas operated. The FN-FAL is also gas operated but its a short stroke gas piston gas operated design. AK 47's are long stroke gas piston operated. Still most 22LR's in the semi-auto form have shorter barrels while their bolt action versions have longer barrels which is why the one poster might be noticing such a difference in stopping power. I hate to be grusome here but. . . Bullet type and the various mechanics behind it effect killing or stopping power. . . FMJ's for the most part are piss poor stoppers unless the rifle / bullet was designed to allow for end over end turning once it struck the denser medium of flesh. . . SP's tend to be better since they have some controlled expansion, HP's are usually better yet (again some controlled expansion). . . but it really matters how well the bullet was made and how much velocity was left when it strikes the target and really rather or not it just punches right though or stays in. (aka is has alot to do with energy transferance as well bullet placement.) Course all that doesn't mean squat if you can't hit your what your aiming at too. There are other things that factor in. . . But I'm reluctant to actually talk about them here. Still the .303 - vs - .308 or 7.7mm / 7.62mm have very similar ballistics wise and there wouldn't be much noticable difference between the two even if you pulled out the old Vickers .303 MG and pitted against the FN MAG (M240 Bravo). Yea yea I know the old Vickers has a longer barrel and such while the MAG has a shorter one. . . Also I know the the Vickers has a lower velocity at the muzzle - vs- the higher of the MAG. But the reason why the Vickers has a longer effective range is because it is because it is heavy and fires each round much slowly and thus more stable for aiming. Which makes a huge difference when talking about 'effective range'. The other factor while it was mentioned, boils down to the quality of the gun made. You over charge a .303 round and put it in a old well used and not well maintained Enfield it might just blow up in your face dispite the caseing being able to hold a bit more powder. And while more modern .308 rifles are designed to handle a bit more pressure, the same thing could happen if the breach was compromised in some way. Or the head spacing wasn't quite right. Same thing can be said about the older Winchester in the game which shoots shotgun rounds (back then they shot I believe a 2.5 inch length 12 gauge (I can't remember if it was pure blackpowder or not) -vs- the more modern 2.75 or 3 or even 3.5 inch length 12 gauge smokeless powder round!) Ok I've said way too much. . . It's time to run. Me and my stupid hobbies anyway ;p

    Your unluckiest/luckiest moments in DayZ?

Oh gawd ok I'll tell a few of my lucky ones and a few of my unlucky ones. My lucky moments. . . In a house in Chenro and for some reason it things deminished into a free for all outside. Ton of players just killing each other and litterally I think 5 died off right away. I'm guessing though one of the spawn hoppers was trying to get back into Chenro and ran into the house I was in with a horde of zombies behind her. All I had at the time was a enfield but for some reason she decided to toss a smoke grenade into the room I was in, still running about like a idiot and pissing off even more zombies. . . I started laughing a bit at this when I realized she tossed something else into the room and just as I hit the ground the whole fracken house exploded! I was like WTF?!? a grenade really? and needless to say when I crawled out (I took zero damage and no I have no idea how!) there she was about 15 meters away and well was zombie food. . . *rubs chin* Humm another one. . . which one. . ah ok. Ah what the hell I talk about the incident right before this one. .Yea maybe a day or two before. I spawned right on the coast near the south airport and had made my way into the small base there and found a huge backpack in a stand up there. I didn't have any firearms with me when i entered the base and it seemed oddly deserted (aka no zeds). While I had checked the other stands, they had been looted already and thus all I had was a hatchet. But this last stand had the backpack, so I figure ah what the hell. I started tranferring my stuff over to it when suddenly I got shot. Someone had slipped in while I was filling this pack. So I laid down and he fired a few more rounds. I was like oh well I guess I'm screwd since I was bleeding from the first hit. So I though ah hell with it i'll try to bandage myself, he fired a few more times into the deerstand but the bullets didn't hit me. The funny thing was as soon as I layed back down a AK spawned and I thought OH GREAT WHAT LUCK!!! So I quickly put the hatchet away and picked it up and fired a small burst back his way for the hell of it. He fired back just as the zombies started respawning and had to run about like a dam idiot to keep them from killing him! I was laughing so hard by this time I nearly fell out of my chair. And yea they killed him as he was running along the runway of that airport! I never had to fire another shot! Lets see here my lucky - unlucky moment. . . (I think I posted this somewhere before.) Eh got hit by a wily zombie up near the NW airfield, no I did nothing to provoke the attack the SOB just ran streight at me and broke my leg right as I shot him. I crawled whole distance back to a hospital without a compass and got turned around a few times in the process the periods of darkness didn't help. I even had to scrounge for food and drink in a couple of towns along the way since the first one didn't have any food. This took a variety of login sessions and was over a period of a few days to get to that hospital. Something like 4 or 5 hours maybe even slightly more I just don't remember for certain. Anyway after stashing my gear in the woods, I crawled into town only to find the hospital empty. So I crawled back to my gear and logged out. The next day I figured ah I'll try it again for the heck of it. So I crawled back into town and for some reason the zombies were spawing like mad! I swear there must have been 40 or so! (I didn't bother to count, I was way too busy trying to avoid them.) Some where bugged for some reason and were walking inside one another! I happened to have a few cans so I tossed a few to get some of them distracted and managed to get the dam morphien I needed for my leg. But somehow this guy must have saw me and decided to kill me. All I had on me was a axe and a pistol with 1 clip and a extra morphien I looted. Still he took a shot and suddenly the whole group of zeds went after him and killed him! I just shook my head and thought what a fool! All because I had a axe? My pack and everything else of any value I had stashed! Anyway I crawled back to my stuff and logged out soon after. The very next day I logged in. In the woods near this same town and I got hosed down by some hacker with a minigun who sprayed the area I was in. I have no clue as to how he saw me so fast from so far away, he was near the outskirts of the town, I was in the WOODS nor how in the hell he had a such a rapid firing weapon but well . . . NEVER AGAIN will I crawl that gawd forsaken 8 km or more. My other unlucky moment was when I went up to a house stoop to loot something (you know one of those houses you can't enter but stuff spawns on the door step?) and suddenly with out warning 5 zeds start pouring out the door! I shoot one with my pistol and the next thing I know the whole dam town is after me! The next one breaks my leg and the third knocks me out. . . So I was Zed food. .

    More incentives for non-hostile play

Say whut? 8p Um sorry but playing solo gets incredibly boreing after awhile. And I don't know about you but it takes some time to build up just a car if it's damaged and your on foot. It's already way way way benefiicial to have even 1 partner just to help carry the parts! Just having that extra person is extremely advantagous for any encounter with other survivors! Besides that your already at a disadvantage most of the time running alone out there. If you can't fit a bandage, painkillers, heatpack, anti bodies, food, drink, ammo, and some run with a extra weapon (pistol or rifle + ammo for it,) or try to shoehorn a tent into their pack. . . There are times where you might get cut and bleed, or break a leg, in a 'encounter' or glitch and guess what if you don't have at least one of those items your screwd! And most of the time if your running alone you have to have at least two of some of those items so you can search for a spare without dieing! Even scavaging and searching for crap is easier because you can cover more area! And with the zombie spawns, 2 or more can handle them a lot better! Humm after thinking about this, I think I forgot to say. . . Yea there probabily are times where you might be worse off with a partner, especially if their giving away your position a lot. Or their just plain more annoying than helpful. In those cases yea you might just be better off putting a bullet in their bean and moving on. The game does need a bit more content though, what that amounts to is beyond me.
  11. Who cares?

    Spawn with a hatchet?

Sadly that has happened to me, it seems like when I spawn near the dock East of Elektro with at least 1 or 3 of the patches in the past I haven't even taken one step and a zombie saw, yelled made a run right at me. The last time it happened (since they took the Mak's away,) I didn't have crap for defence. But running up the stupid hill seemed to help get rid of em. Still there are other spawn spots where there isn't hardly a dam thing useful that's around and if you accidently agro a zed you dam near have to run a klick to find something to get the SOB hung up on. Still another time I got cornered in a dam house on another server with a f'd up spawn rate (I have no idea why it was that way, all I know is there wasn't nothing spawning even the cans / whiskey bottles were sparce!). And no you can't run though a zed. So I'm fine with any ideas. Hell I wouldn't mind if they just took the hunting knife and made it so you could put it in your pistol slot. If it was dark out then you've got a difficult decision to make use the flashlight or the knife! Just make it so you can cut somebody - results in a slow bleeding wound, maybe more stabs speeds it up, but a stab to the head kills. . . or something. *shrugs* While slightly off topic here the only other thing is I wish I could put my pistol in my dam toolbelt so I can use my flashlight sometimes and then exchange them back when I don't need a spot of light anymore.
  12. Who cares?

Which map would you like to see for dayz?

I'm fine with Lingor Island, or some other map someone created out there. . . Granted it would be nice to have a few more open buildings and such too. Zargabad? Is way too small and the open desert dosen't seem like that much fun to me, but to each their own I guess. All I know is IceBreakr has really put alot of work into his islands and they are something to see and actually create missions on (for those who 'roll' their own with Arma 2's mission editor). Isla Duala isn't too bad but it's a mix of jungle and desert. Panthera is really hilly and alot of the terrain is taken up by the steep mountian like hills / passes. The only thing with Lingor is that it is a jungle and hard on resources for graphics. . . So if many don't have a upper ended machine out there well. . . On the other hand I'm also fine with some other crafted landscape, island, or cityscape as long as it is fairly large so people can get 'lost' in them. Even though I'm not sure how well a city would work? Because right now there are only so many buildings in ARMA and some tend to be a bit buggy or get buggy when plopped down on even slighly uneven terrain or stacked on top of one another. I'd be interested in a map that would have some wide river running in the middle of it with some forest, farmland, and partly damaged cities / roads / and even bridges. Or something that made the boats a bit more useful. . Something with a natural divide with choke points if you catch my drift?
  13. I tried one time killing a bunch of zeds by agroing a few and funneling them up on a upper floor of some construction site. . . I think I used up all of my rifle and pistol ammo and ended up swingin the old axe for a while when a pause finally came. I don't remember how many I killed at the time, but there was one hell of a pile of bodies in front of me. And the pause didn't last a long time 100 or more maybe? On the other hand (but this has been a few patches ago,) I did have 3 spawn right in front of me (less than 2 meters) while I was nearing a house and while one right away broke a bone another knocked my character out and I was instant zombie food. But oddly enough (again a few patches ago,) the funniest thing that happened to me is when I went to a doorstep of one of those houses a player can't enter at some town (I don't remember which one anymore,) and instantly 5+ zeds started pouring out the door of the house. Oh joy. . Yup zombie food yet again. Never mind I was lying flat when it happened. More recently though I was hunting zeds for the hell of it at the doorway of a barn. 2 were milling about, but once I killed them the server seemed to have some studdering lag spaz and suddenly 3 spawned in one spot in front of me while 2 other groups of 2 or 3 spawned in other areas near that barn all within sight and oddly close. The other thing was one spawned in the building I was in too on top of a loot spawn. So yea I agree with the posters . . there seems to be problem with the oddball zed spawns. And while I did survive that time it was a bit insane for a bit and I ended up sneaking out of the area. I think by the time I decided to leave there was a pile of 20 - 30 bodies for that one.
  14. Who cares?

Morhpine Emergency - How about a BRANCH!!! ?

That was a part of the Arma 2 but I think it's in script / module form. (While this isn't that important, I sometimes dink around making my own missions and such with Arma 2.) I don't know what kind of effort it would take to put it in the mod but those modules did allow you to drag injured, pick up and carry injuried, or even provide first aid if you synchronized the module to the player and (I think?) members of your AI team. Sadly I don't remember if there are any nuances with the way the servers interface.
  15. Who cares?

    Currency System & Safe Zones

I don't have a problem with what the OP wants, but currency might be just better handled though the trade of lootable items. Still that said in order to get anywhere near this there is probabily going to have to be alot more content / loot and other mechanics added before it could be fully used and thus useful. Maybe bullets gets you a item from this vendor, but other vendors might want food, water or pop, or even military gear for their wares. Or maybe players could just put up extra crap they have for sale in exchange for some lootable? As far as 'safe zones'? Reguardless anyone's feelings on the matter players are still going to have to find ways to 'enter' and 'exit' the area and I think bandits would probabily just be hovering about the boarders. Also I don't have any issues with players building a sort of shanty town or fort out of junk they loot. Or even one crappy wreck of a vehicle.

    NVG's - after fixes

Actually I don't necessarily mind removing NVGs, but then put some accessible search lights on the rooftops of the larger towns. . . Maybe tie them to a generator a survivor has to do make some minor repairs and supply gas to get them to work? It could add some odd shadows to the game and make running about some of the cities a bit more interesting with the zeds about. *shrugs* Otherthings I wouldn't mind seeing some of those searchlights mounted on the helos too or in the back of pickups, infact why aren't there a few technicals anyway? The Sundat seems to be a fine carrier of tripod stuff and it looks a bit worn too. Or hell maybe even supply a roll of tape so a survivor can attach that flashlight to their rifle. But to me flashlights are just about useless, since I'm normally carrying enough gear to fill all the slots in my pack. So dropping my pistol for it just doesn't seem logical. But then again either way it dosen't matter to me. All I know is any lights you try to carry make you sniper bait rather fast. Also I think I got my first set of NVGs off of a helo. . .

Morhpine Emergency - How about a BRANCH!!! ?

Aw dude I did that once. . never again. . All the way from that near that dam NW airfield. What happened to break my leg? A dam wild zed started running at me and hit me just as I shot him. As far as I know I did nothing to provoke the attack but oh well those things happen. The bad was I didn't have a compass at the time so I got turned around a few times and the oncomming darkness didn't help. What really sucked is I still had to scavange for food / water at least twice on that trip since the first town I went to didn't have any beans lying about. (Keep in mind this took something like 4+ hours or more and various login sessions to do!) So after finding a shady spot to stash my gear I crawled in. Only to find there was nothing there *sighs* so I crawled back out and back to my gear and logged out. The next day I figured ah screw it I'm close I'll just try again (I had seriously thought ah screw it I'll just respawn.) So after stashing my gear again I crawled into town and the f'ing zeds were spawning like mad. I have no idea why but there were a ton of them I think I crawled past maybe as high as 40 of them no I didn't bother to count. All I know is there were double spawns (some seemed to be walking inside each other for some screwd up reason.) I made it to the hospital and grabbed a couple morphines. But of course some body was there shooting folks. All I had was a pistol with 1 clip and a dam axe, no pack to speak of and nothing else. Still this guy must have saw me or heard me tossing a few cans to distract the zeds and decided to try to kill me. Funny thing is. . . Right as he fired that first shot all of the dam zeds in that area went right after him! I just sat back and shook my head. And yea they killed the fool. I just turned around a crawled back out. . . I think it was the very next day that character died due to dam hacker who some how had a minigun in the game and somehow saw me from way off and then sprayed the area I was in with a stream of bullets. Thinking about it that was awhile ago now. But NEVER AGAIN will I do that 8+ km crawl to a hospital.

Hello??? Hello??? I do get your point, your problem is I disagree with it and so do others. Your arguement seems to jump about a bit because you don't want these things. I 'did' at one time respectfully understand. But after reading a few more of your replies if ya can't handle it well tough. If you can't be a adult about it well. . . *shrugs* The one thing I don't like about this mod is it is going to cause alot of 'jaded' players who for some reason seem to be thinking this is the way it's going to be in real life if a apocalypse actually happens. After all just how many out there are rather young players? My point in the 'italicized' seems to have been completely overlooked. What I was trying to get though to some thick skulls out there that it IS A GAME and if you did this stuff again in real life you better be prepaired to maintain / make / protect everything you need and have that knowledge onhand. After all just how many of you can make your own clothing? Gas for a car? Ha that stuff decays and goes bad rather fast! Do you know how to take apart injectors or how about a simple carburetor? Where are you going to find parts for the items your trying to get working again? What about bread? Have you ever grinded your own flour by hand? Soap? Anyone know how to make it? Water? So after some chemical or powerplant up the river has gone belly up from the lack of maintenance and flooded that stream with crap can you tell me your going to drink it? Do you think that old farm pond is going to sustain you with all of the chemicals farmers spray on their fields and not get sick? Do you know how to doctor yourself? How to make medicines if you get sick? Your going to be extremely lucky if you even survive 1 year alone depending on your health, supplies, where you are, and probably not much more even in a small group. And it's highly likely your going to starve if you try to wall your self up somewhere. So going out there and the willy nilly killing unsick folk for no reason isn't that realistic either nor smart in the long run. And I can completely understand if people in the game started forming hunter groups that went after the bandits. All of the pure arguement to get rid of the cammo clothing was because some thought it gave incentive for others to kill each other for a nifty outfit. And really if you read some of the other suggestions out there it seems a lot more feel that PKing is a problem and are looking for answers to it. Rather it be take more guns away in this posting or create wholly different spawn areas or going the crafting route. I've been on servers where it's a free for all and it's not that much fun. Hell's bells I can't even count how many times I've came across some hacker who has some huge weapon off of a gunship or plane. Or are spawning their own weapons because their butt hurt over getting raped and can't handle it. And many are out there rage / vengence killing. Or even the server owner / clan is pulling some crap because their hurt over loosing their horde of 10 cars and the like. How realistic is that? But 'realistic'? By that pure term I then have to ask who do you know dosen't have or know someone who has a bicycle? What about motorbikes? Why are there so many destoryed humvees about? Why aren't there more tractors in the field? Even if 'damaged' wouldn't there be a few different things laying about? Hells bells all of those electronic gadgets need BATTERIES to keep working where in the hell are you going to get some of them? Batteries don't last forever either even if left on a shelf somewhere! Maybe some of the solutions lie in crafting up stuff or having to maintain your ALL of your gear including yourself. By that I mean patching your worn clothing, do you really think all that sneaking about isn't going to wear a hole in those pants and might make you more likely to getting cut or get some other infection? Even failing to clean that clothing is going to cause some issues! Cleaning that rifle (any automatics laying in the dirt / weather are going to start having issues and will be prone to jam rather fast or may not even fire at all.) yet alone who knows what that prior owner may have had to do with it to keep the zombies away. They might have used it as a club until they got too tired to keep away the horde. Who knows. Again I have to say since the in game characters don't display mannerisms very well I don't see a problem with a scarf, arm band(s), name tag, or some other identifyer. There is a lot more to mannerisms than just some smirk on someones face, there body language says alot more than you think and so do their reactions to things. After all how in the hell are they going to render sweat, the stink of the unkept, or the sweaty paleness of the sick? What about fear, happyness, sorrow, or even excitement? You might not realize it but you already display these mannerisms in daily life when you see things and they tend to be obvious to those who train themselves to look for them. Another thing is how in the hell can anyone tell who anyone is? By that I mean there are only so many faces in the game and a limited amount of clothing! Not everyone is tall, skinny, strong, or even weak! All of those things SPEAK a lot as to who you are and what you value. And these things do define you no matter how much folks want to bury their head in the sand and claim something else. Keep in mind I never said nor insisted the killer types wouldn't go away nor did I say anything was a magical fix it all solution. But I tend to think there are quite a few out there looking for solutions and even reasons to actually make a few friends while actually playing the game -vs- just running in and killing anything they come across or finding a group of people out side the game and pulling them into it. Right now there dosen't seem to be much reason to make any friends or raiding groups in game it's just kill on sight.

Exactly, characters / toons in this game give off ZERO mannerisms which is no way like real life. I also don't think it wouldn't be a bad idea to have handheld radios or something for chatting with others if one wanted to for a sort of pseduo global chat option. Give it the option to have a few channels or turn it off if ya want or toss the looted radio in a stream, er whatever if you don't want to hear it. As a survivor I don't see a problem with someone spawing with such a item. After all wouldn't someone try to get some information from somewhere? Kill on sight is the norm for most players right now and thus I avoid everyone these days. . . So I don't find indicators to be that much of a issue. And I don't have a issue with it being a arm band, headgear, nametag er something. I think a total uniform tranformation might be a bit over the top. But on the other hand I would like to see a bit more clothing options too, but I don't think they should be a priority. Anyway when I get bored I go back to what I call this current state of affairs with DayZ or what I derogatory call BEAN WARS in Electro. But I have survived for long periods in the woods days - weeks. . . *sighs* it just gets stupidly boreing after awhile. And while you might laugh at this; oddly enough getting pissed at rabbits and chaseing them with a axe er hatchet is quite challenging and time consuming. Yes yes, I can hear myself already yelling at the computer "Come back here you little bastard!" Still the only thing that has gotten me killed was when I change my routine - but most times I do that because I'm bored outta my mind. BTW those of you who like those GPSs? Those wouldn't work in a apocalypse either. . . Yea yea I know satellites. . but those satellites require at least one operational ground station to stay accurate threw periodical updates. Yea you can forget the internet too, since your computer messages will need boosters to over come the resistance in wire and interfaces for any fiber optics routing. . . Cell phones ha those will be gone too they have at best a 3 mile range. . . <<< All these things need power so once the powerstations go down and the backup batteries go dead that's it for those items and many many more. All thats left is basic radio communication (shortwave for long distance communication) and the only reason why is because they generally require the least amount of resources to operate - at least until a major part goes poof or the operator is unable to maintain it! So to those of you who say 'real' this or 'real' that better start getting it though your heads there is very little ONE person or even a SMALL group of people can do.
  20. Who cares?

    Too many Guns.

While I understand what your saying. . There is so many destoryed humvees there (isn't there at least 2 in every town? I have to ask how common are those in the EU?) With in reason, they are a mainstay of the military and with the amount found I would almost think there was more than a division of solders within chernarus. So to me it wouldn't be too shocking to see a ton of more likely empty firearms just laying about on the ground. Maybe ammo would be a bit rarer in some areas, but more likely a clip or two found on a zombie solder or cop would be the norm. Maybe even on occausion one zombie solder / cop 'might' have a pistol in a holster. It also wouldn't be too far fetched to say that as the plague spread and despriation grew the government might issue a few older guns to the citizenery and ad hoc them in to defense roles against the undead. And I highly doubt the gov't wouldn't issue guns to their troops or officers as things became more despirate, so those safes would probabily be totally empty. And the citizenry very well could have rebelled a bit and raided a few of those armories as well. While wandering about Chernarus too, the way everthing is set it appeared there was no apparent fleeing but more like a 'bunker' in and attempt to shelter mentality. I say this because the road out of towns don't seem to show much broken down traffic, nor are their pileups at the gas stations. So again I would venture to say that it wouldn't be too far fetched to see at least a few firearms lying about most towns. Chernarus dose seem to lack police stations or even some kind of jail so I can more or less understand why some of the guns would spawn at a firestation. And I don't recall Arma 2 having firetrucks unless someone modded one. So yea while there are things that are off, there are things that are not too. Too me I guess if they were to reduce the amount of firearms then there would have to be other melee type weapons available for use. This brings up another point, wouldn't there be even more bicycles, motorcycles, even tractors in the fields? Wouldn't they be common even in a destroyed form? Wouldn't there be a sort of areas even with in parts of the larger cities where the dwindling population would try to fortress themselves in? The cities seemed awfully open and I suspect a unarmed populace would even be more disparate to do so and finding ways of keeping outsiders out.
