  1. This is my first post here guys, have been playing dayz for a week or so, probably clocked up around 40 hours and the main gripe i have about the mod, aside from some bug issues etc is there is no leveling system. Hear me out for a second, i hate COD, bf series were slightly better, i never played wow, any mmo for that matter as the content never interested me. However i believe dayz has great potential to hit that perfect balance between an mmo style game with fresh content that isnt just 'collect x wolves teeth to gain 50xp' The perma death idea in my opinion is flawed, you already lose all your gear that you worked so hard to find so the idea of a perma death ads nothing to the punishment of losing. Adding a subtle leveling system that leveled up from time played + zombies/bandits killed etc would be a small reward for the time and effort you put in, you still sttart out with a torch, bandages etc, so you still lose all your gear when you die, but you are not left feeling your entire time was wasted. The leveling system might just be a number, or perhaps a new ranking system akin to army rankings, corporal, major etc. Much like in bf1943 which i played abit of, you ranked up to level 50, there were no perks, stats etc, just a number and a badge, but somehow it made you feel like you were getting somewhere. I believe the implementation of something like this would have a positive impact on player numbers and those players who lose interest, i dont think it would ruin the immersion to any great extent, as long as there were too many 'perks' and stats, a simple number or rank to show how long you have played and how good you are is simple enough. But it shouldnt be reset on death, you already lose your entire load of gear, so keeping hold of your rank/level that has no bearing on the game will have no effect on your new start up character as you still start with the same thing as a level 1 person would start with. Thanks for reading, i know many on here despise the idea of a leveling system, but if well implemented, such as a region specific ranking system or russian army ranking etc i think it could work.

    The hypocrisy regarding hackers

Of course, because 'hacking' and teleporting every player on the server to a field, then dropping them to their deaths is totally the same as stumbling across a gun which may be hacked... zzzz
  3. I think this would be an interesting change, make up some backstory that all the animals/livestock became infected and died, thus making them inedible. It would make players from all 'levels' have to venture into towns to retrieve supplies on a regular basis, which would stop alot of the griefing/camping. Would be a nice change to see :) your opinions?
  4. But what if animals also carried the infection/became infected during the 'event'? i guess we will never know as the lore is minimal at best, most likely until the standalone. But it would be fun to see the changes implemented, if they did make the changes they could add a little story to it also to make it more believable, such as alot of/most of the animals became infected, and eating them would increase your chances of infection of becoming sick etc. The more changes they make while its an alpha, the better in my opinion, as long as they are well thought out and dont unbalance the game too much, but in some cases you wont know this till you try :)
  5. Yea, its the only viable way when playing solo to recoup blood loss, however is it all bad if its removed? maybe people would be more cautious about situations where they may lose blood, or maybe they could make beans more rare but have them recover more blood than other canned food. Just seems abit silly when carrying around 12 pieces of cooked meat in your backpack for days on end, diarrhea here i come! lol
  6. Its rather comical to think of a bus loaded with baked beans lol, however it seems more realistic than carrying arround raw/cooked meat without refridgeration. In a zombie apocalypse, if animals were infected too, canned and long-life food would be the only other viable alternative. It would also make trips more fun in that you would have to plan your route, this is already in place somewhat due to the placement of adequate water supplies, and having to follow these in some cases to refil when needed.
  7. In what way? food items spawn mostly anywhere, so there would be no specific place to camp to kill people looking for food, and would make people who do camp elektro/cherno etc have to come down into close quarters situations to restock. Would be good to see never the less, seeing as its an alpha, it would be cool to gague how the community reacts and responds to the change.

    Take out .50 cals

I agree to a downgrade on weaponry/equipment too, it does detract from the realism somewhat, i think camo should be in, but take guilles out, this is all opinion of course, however its in an alpha, so i think if your going to try it, do it now before the standalone. Ive had the most fun running around with a cz or enfield, an alice pack n civ or camo clothes, living off the land etc. But when you start getting high end military equipment it just ruins the immersion for me. Do russian/eastern europeans even use barretts? what is their equivalent? even the enfield probably doesnt belong in eastern europe but im not sure, replace them with ussr equivalents, and make them more rare, and increase farm/residential weapons. In saying that though, it is designed with the arma2 engine hence the use of american guns etc, hopefully though, they look into this, and at least remove some of the high end stuff, thermal scopes and night vision scopes being a bit over kill imo.

    Dayz on ArmA3?

The state the game is currently in is obviously not perfect and thus is an alpha. The game was much more fun to play before everyone decided to shoot on site, and people just started camping cherno/elektro for fun. There was a unease when meeting someone, they might shoot you, BUT they might talk to you and end up doing stuff together. Now there is none of this, its simply who ever sees who first gets shot in the back etc, or people just camp with military grade equip in cherno/elektro and snipe people running around with a flashlight and bandages. Its all opinion of course, but the game was infinetly more enjoyable before everyone decided to just start shooting each other on site, no questions asked, and as such, i think there can be many improvements in this area, hence its an alpha. Why not try stuff? thats what the alpha is for
  10. It really is a bitter-sweet feeling, one part of me says, 'screw this game!' and vow to never return, yet another side of me reacts like a junkie craving the next fix. Have just been shot after days of surviving, had decent gear and was probably making too much noise, thus i got shot lol. The feeling though is unlike anything else, because of perma death it heightens the feeling of 'game over' that other games just cant come close to. Anyone else feel like this? lol
  11. I started just after they removed the makarov on spawn lol, although i think the newer system is great as it is, its also not too hard to find a shotty or enfield within the first 10-15 minutes. Thats what i did before, i logged into a populated server and just ran around devils castle for a while, didnt get into a firefight :( so then just ran off into a random forest n got sniped lol.
  12. so true, i have had much more fun with an enfield and a few cans of beans than a nvfal and enough steak and water to last a life time lol. I mean im sure many people enjoy getting this high end equipment, but for me it seems out of place in a zombie survival game, would be much more realistic if weapons reflected what would generally be around, rifles and shotguns in farms etc, maybe some pistols in town. It would also create a much 'closer' game whilst also maintaining a large maps size.
  13. have not had that yet thankfully, though it sounds horrible, although i have to expect to happen eventually with the amount of hackers out there.
  14. Which is just how rocket intended it to be :) player created and player orientated gameplay, which is awesome as it means everyone does something different, and reacts differently rather than having to follow a set style of gameplay/style.
  15. lol, pretty sure the guy who got me would have gained a few steaks and a water bottle, sounded like a 50cal, so much better than my akm lol
  16. lol, i guarantee at least 50% of people have rage-uninstalled this game then reinstalled it a day later... its like crack!
  17. They need to implement safe zones where weapons must be checked in before entry, could be a camp of sorts, or mini town/city where people can chat/trade and share stories of their survival, there could be a bar where you can purchase beans or vodka or something lol.
  18. Indeed, i would welcome a nerf of much of the gear, get rid of advanced optics, thermals etc. Having a military grade rifle+equipment would most likely never fall into the hands of general civilians, give the ability to put basic scopes onto hunting rifles etc and i belive it would make combat and interaction in the game much more personal and up close, having to get closer before you take the shot will increase your chance of being spotted too so its a win win, rather than having people in guilles running around with fals and nightvision/thermal optics camping everything.
  19. i ran for about 1 second before i fell down like a sack of potatoes lol

    Dear Rocket, Reset please.

i agree to a complete reset, and bring into question the use of tents and their place in the game. For me, having everyone start out on the same level after you die would bring much needed balance to the game, instead of people spawning then rushing to their tent chock full of supplies, the game would benefit more from people starting out again trying to survive with a makarov and bandages lol. After all, the idea of a perma death is for a new character to be born into the world, not the same one who still knows where all his loot is after he is dead lol.

    Headshots Required To Kill Zeds

No! fix the zeds first then worry about that, it would be ok to require headshots if they didnt zig zag, moved at a slower speed and didnt glitch through every wall/door/ceiling lol

How to deal with 1.7.2 zombies

prone worked now and then, but they still picked me up, crouch walking was bearable to get around, theres no way im going to go prone all around elektro/cherno just to avoid zombies when sprinting then going into a building works just as well. Hopefully this is balanced out in the hotfix, i enjoyed sneaking around when you were actually able to sneak without it becoming too tedious, now its just not worth the time/effort when you can get the same results from exploiting the fact they cant run in buildings.

How to deal with 1.7.2 zombies

What i do is simply sprint around cherno/elektro looking for a gun/supplies, and run in to buildings now and then to get rid of some of them, hurr durr so realism. Theyve stuffed up with the zombie sensitivity, hearing/sight far too good, i was literally 100-200 metres away from a zed and he just started sprinting towards me, i was crouched in grass, so since then theres just no point in going prone/crouching, just run past them all and exploit the fact they cant run indoors. Its kind of ruined the whole sneak aspect of the game now since this seems to be the only viable way to get through the first parts of a new character.
  24. I agree im not experienced, but putting in 20+ hours should be ample enough. Some gear spawns just dont work, you can quietly sneak into a barn and there might not be anything, yet in another you get 3 guns and a crossbow, not only that but zeds often just stand inside buildings you need to get into, making it impossible unless your geared. I think its great to have a game that is hard, but there still needs to be balance, make it too hard and you will only be left with a small section of hardcore players, and thus will have very little funding due to low numbers. However if you get the balance between hard and friggen hard right, you will get a much larger player base, thus increasing funding and enabling rocket and others to make the game better.
  25. I already stopped playing a few days before this new patch, it was bullshit enough then, theres only so many times you can die from OP bugs before you get sick of it. The sad thing is, i thought the new patch would at least begin to address these problems, not make them worse. I wont be playing until these problems are addressed, its just too hard when starting out, sometimes you will get lucky and get some good loot, but now that seems even less likely when trying to get into a building. If they had added a starting melee weapon, toned down zombie speed it would have been great and i might have gone back to playing. But for now, i will stay away until i see some real changes. Its sad as i had some great fun at times with this mod, but others were just downright bullshit, would love to see this mod get taken over by someone competent, even another dev who could takeover the idea and run it on another engine that would be more suitable than arma 2.
