Will hackers really be subdued in SA? Not likely.

You haven't heard of a lot of aimbots then Some even consider your ping -

Those games have no permadeath. Any hacking in DayZ is amplified by the fact that death basically is game over. It really doesn't matter if you get killed by a nuke or by somebody using a radar and an aimbot, your day is ruined either way -

A sniper in an area where a lot of players will come by (thnk airfield or cherno) using an aimbot / esp is all you need to ruin the game -
I don't see how changing the name of the store page implies a release any second now

Half the posts on these forums are annoying memes and (anime) reaction images. You should've been able to figure out the mental age of most people in here by that alone.

Gamescom - August 2013 - Interviews/Gameplay

Lost all hype after seeing the E3 demo Now I'm hyped again -
If you assume that there is going to be some kind of occlusion culling for sent information, that's a no You'd have to do a HUGE amount of additional work per servertick. that's just not doable with affordable technology, especially since server capacity is to be increased Besides that a Sniper with esp and aimbot in cherno is still deadly, even if he only receives information about players he can shoot. Actually it wouldn't affect him at all
-
I don't want to be "that" guy, but limited information hardly stops ESPs and the like The guy will still know the exact position of everybody within X kilometres, which kinda is the purpose of an ESP. A cheating sniper in cherno who knows the position of everything within 2km or so is still deadly
-
You'll still have to deal with more "passive" hacks such as radars / esps, aimbots and whateverthefuck they come up with
-
Sorry to burst your bubble (tehehe), but there'll still be hacks I know that people explained that already, but I just HAD to do the bubble pun

Do you remember the first time you played Dayz?
Elo replied to Agent36's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Guess I'm one of those lucky bastards who got to play DayZ "as intended" on their first day Started my first day with a Bro, it was nighttime ingame and IRL We spawned and got to know the controls for 10 minutes, then tried to find each other using the moon and landmarks as reference points. We knew how dangerous DayZ was, shit was scary at night. At some point I saw some other dude's flashlight, almost shot him when I realized that it was my bro At this point I should add that it was one of those super fukken dark nights, you could only see anything using the flashlight, so the effective POV was like 20°. We also had the lights in our rooms turned off and were using headsets. Combined with large screens that was super immersive and we really felt like we were *in* that game fighting for survival. Man that was tense We followed a street and headed towards the north. At some point we found a small village with a barn and we saw (or, rather, heard) our first zombies. First we panicked, then slowly crawled towards the barn as we were getting thirsty. Found something to drink and a crossbow. Then for some reason a zombie decides to wander into the barn. We totally lost out shit and didn't dare move for 10 minutes (we were on the upper floors). We didn't know if light attracts zombies, so we turned our flashlights off. It was completely dark inside that barn *Is he still there? *Fuck I think so *Shit, yes, I just heard him The damn zombie then decides to slowly wander upstairs, so we are forced to use the crossbow. I illuminate the zombie with my flashlight, bro manages a headshot with the crowssbow and we get the fuck out of there We heard distant shots. Decided to go into that general direction, suddenly bullets hit the ground nearby us. Fled into the woods for cover and lost our pursuers there. Next we noticed one of those huge radio towers on a hill against the skyline. Went up there, sneaking past the zombies (panicking, again, while doing that), to get a good view of the surroundings so we had a general Idea where we should go next. We finally got up on that tower and had an _awesome_ view of our surrounding environment, even though it was still pretty dark. We saw a rather large town and decided to go there next since both of us were starving by now, then logged off as it was getting late -

It's not like the devs themselves stay civil all the time either, so what do you expect -

Meh. I just don't get why zombies seem to have such a low priority. Shouldn't zombies in a zombie game be one of the first things that properly work? -

Yeah, I kinda loled when I saw the inventory. People have been raving about how functional it is and how you have to experience it to see how much better it makes the game Then, when we finally get to see a showcase of the newest build, even the dev can't use it properly because interfacing with it is so awkward Seriously, "managing expectations" And what's with that font? It would literally take less than 15 minutes to replace it, I don't know why rocket is so intent on keeping a completely unprofessional looking font. Alpha doesn't mean "it has to look ugly" Then you have those animations (I'm only looking at the animations, detached from any gameplay). I mean they're not super terrible, but not exactly good either Are they going to redo the whole mocap process again? If yes, why not do it properly the first time? They really, really shouldn't release the game in this state. Especially not on steam. I mean, what the hell, don't put it on steam (early access) where millions of players see it if you don't actually want to have that many players at the beginning as you keep saying First impressions can make or break something. Especially in DayZ's case. People usually don't know much about other alpha games when they first release, so only fans and / or hardcore gamers buy them. But EVERYBODY knows DayZ. A lot of more casual-oriented players know about it and wait for it And I have to agree that the whole "It's an alpha" thing doesn't really work that well. There are a lot of games that look and play awesome even in alpha. Think early versions of ksp, zomboid, minecraft, prison architect and all those games. People have played these alpha-games and have certain expectations of quality for other indev games -

Wow, they should not release in this / a slightly more polished state Yes, yes, alpha and such, but here's the thing - most gamers simply don't care They'll buy the game on release, experience all the bugs, missing content and general unpolished features of this game and they'll complain, leading to a lot of negative publicity -
3rd Party Interaction, and why it ruins the game
Elo replied to applejaxc's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Maybe it's because I have played so much SS13 lately, but once you take away any form of metagaming (by moderating the server and watching out for obvious meta stuff) the game (even though it's a fugly, pixelated game) became so much more immersive. Being careful with what you say because somebody *might* listen in on your radio channel, or being able to listen in on other people's plans, just adds so much to the game Anyway, I'm pretty sure there will be hardcore / RP communities, with custom tools watching for any 3rd party voip program for the SA And since this is pretty relevant: Rocket stated that the WANTS more eve-like metagamy elements for the SA, so yeah. -
the gaming clan OneTick earn money with Dayz and that is not korreckt

his german is as bad as his english, reads like he's a spoiled angry kid Just let it go dude, play on another server -
Is it confirmed that the server will only send information about an object to the client if it is within a certain distance? Any information about that? From reading through this (merged) thread I got the impression that people are just assuming that this will be the case in Standalone
-
Do you have any empirical data to support that claim?
-
I think that once the "LOLOLOL I SPAWN CAR AND GUN AND MASSKILL EVERYONE" (hey, it rhymes) type of hacks are gone people might lose interest in the smaller, more passive hacks, much like in other MP games

F1 menu has been activated... little help here
Elo replied to arkaeldren's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Hackers are able to remote-execute code on other player's machines, I've had this happen a few times myself (though my hacking menu also included advertisement to buy the full version of the hack) -
Can't wait for tonight's stream
-
Just want to bring this back to attention - I also think it's gonna backfire massively if the basics don't work properly, most players don't actually read these forums and expect the foundation of the game to work (though I don't agree with different zombie types being necessary)
