How do you deal with rubberbanding? (Exp)

Both of my characters (hardcore, and regular) in the experimental have been rubberbanded into the room in the police station that is borded up.... So they are stuck there until they starve.... yaaaay testing!

    Should combat logging be ban-able?

Wow. Flaming everyone who doesn't agree with you. That's classy. I've never combat logged, but I do think it's better to fix a problem rather than making it a crime. I think most people can see the problem with banning the low percent of people who unintentionally disconnect from the game during combat. Ignoring that a few people might get banned for no reason seems "stupid" to me. I can't count how many times I've been playing a really intense game when my power goes out (this can happen even when you are in a winning position), and if on top of that I got banned from the game entirely... You don't see that as being an issue?

Zombies as a cure for KOS

I'm sure people will be less bored once all the features (vehicles etc) are implemented into the standalone. For now, as loyal alpher testers, we are just testing out the fundamentals. To be perfectly honest though, I've logged ~29 hours of dayZ SA already, and I havn't seen "KoS" as being a real problem (and before any assumptions are made, I don't kill unarmed players). I think you sort of missed my point here. I'm not saying you would go into a city looking for hostages, I'm saying you might come across a survivor in a city, and if you can't hold them up and ask them some questions, then you might just shoot them in the face.

Zombies as a cure for KOS

I can't help but thinking making zombies rediculously hard (as some have been suggesting) is extremely counter-productive to the mechanics that have already been added to the game to curb "KoS" mentality. The mechanics I'm referring to are the hostage taking mechanics. Now imagine how willing someone might be to take the time to hold someone up when there is a hord of 20 tough zombies chasing right behind them. It would be much easier to just shoot that potential hostage in the face, and keep running from the zombies. If you make zombies too hard, then you might make player interaction too hard as well, which the developers obviously don't want, and will take into careful consideration before making any drastic changes to the environmental dangers. For those who wan't a "punishing" mechanic to "KoS" players, they have already added a mechanic that does that extremely well. When you shoot someone, chances are you destroy all (most) of their loot. This helps prevent players from shooting directly on sight. What happens after that is up to the players. You can't force people to be friendly with everyone, and letting people's true colours come out is (in my opinion) one of the great aspects of day Z.

People over exaggerate KOS so much.

Doesn't this make you the fool complaining about the fool complaining about the fool? xD... And now im the fool complaining about.... etc... xD On a serious note though, I'm not sure if this topic deserve another thread entirely, but I kind of agree with the OP's point in that I've experienced a diverse amount of player interaction so far (not just KoS). Let's be honest too, if there was no threat of KoS, then that would make this game a whole lot more dull. The reason that player interaction gets your adrenaline pumping so hard is because of the very real threat that they might "kill you on sight".

I killed 2 bandits robbing a guy of his blood!

I love that this stuff is happening in standalone. Both the hostage taking, and hostage rescuing makes for a real dynamic game!

How the alpha could be MUCH BETTER

I don't think I'm being paranoid, just sensible. The truth is no one has ever played in a server with the amount of players that will eventually be allowed (over 100, close to 200 I believe). So we really don't know how viable a 60 second log off timer would be. I agree that people shouldn't be able to log off in a firefight, so maybe a shorter timer along with a reset if shots are fired near the player could be implemented. I just don't see how a whole 60 second timer is necessary when a 15 second timer that will reset if action happens near the player would do the job just as well, and let players answer the door if someone knocks without having to fear a random stray zombie coming along and eating their AFK character.

How the alpha could be MUCH BETTER

It is completely possible, especially since the server sizes are gradually going to increase to 100+ people There is no such thing as a "safe area"; no matter where you are on the map someone can kill you if they see you. The problem that I assume you are ignoring, that Gwraspe is clearly making, is that in order to log out, you have to put yourself at a severe disadvantage for 60 seconds while you have the esc tabbed open, and therefor unable to control your character, look around for incoming threats, or react accordingly to any threats that make themselves present during that 60 seconds. Why don't you try constructively criticizing Gwraspe's issue like Wili has done? For me atleast, 60 seconds is way too long to wait to log out. I will simply force quit the game (not that I ever combat log). I think a 15-20 second timer is much more reasonable, as sometimes more pressing matters arise in life that are more important than waiting for a game, but that's just my opinion.

    the melee system is crap

I actually find the melee system to be quite good already. I never hit zombies stationary, and find it quite easy to hit them while in third person and running diagonally. It of course isn't perfect yet, but "perfect" isn't to be expected in an alpha. As this guy has admitted to not having bought the game in a post already, and doesn't plan on buying it, I'm not sure if we should take anything he has to say about the mechanics of this game seriously, as he certainly lacks any qualifications to comment (hasn't played the game...).
  10. -DayzCelle - (1.7.4.4/99153)[REGULAR][GMT+2] Private Hive - hosted by leb and aussie | dayz.st -about 1:00AM PST (GMT-8) -donniedarko started following me (marcel) and my friend (atomicnips) around, seemed friendly enough, had a car. Things got kind of strange, after a long conversation i accused him of probably being a hacker. He then stripped me of all my gear which was really lame cause i had just looted some awesome stuff.... he spawned some crates to replace my weapons... i told him i just wanted my gear back... he then spawned gear into my character somehow.. nightvision... m4a3 cco... the works... thats basically it... ruined a hard night of honest scavenging.. I disconnected but i assume my character will still have all these hacked goods when i relog... that servers like wrecked now. I think theres like 500 helicopters spawned on that server PICTURE PROOF
