How do you survive as a lone wolf?

I think common sense is really something to keep in mind while playing lone wolf. Keep your head on a swivel, don't shoot unless its an emergency, keep a low profile, etc. Personally, if you have either a chemlight or flashlight, then exploring at night can be very rewarding due to other players and zombies not being able to see you as well.

Flashlights and why you should start with them

Maybe it's just because I've been avoiding big loot towns, but I haven't run across a flashlight yet =C. That said, I can see just fine if there's a moon, and if there's not, it's gamma/brightness adjustment time.

    too dark at night

Let's go ahead and assume you only have very basic supplies, such as flares and chemlights, no maps or binoculars or fancy stuff. Navigating in the total dark without turning up brightness and gamma is almost impossible. You have to have some kind of light! Chemlights don't have a huge radius, so you might not get spotted depending on the situation. Much better than carrying a flare around though.

    too dark at night

If you're out on your own (Not in a town or popular survivor area!), throwing a flare as far as you can, then dashing quickly away from the point you threw it from is a fairly safe way to get some light. The reason you move is so if anyone's watching, they won't find you easy by estimating the trajectory. I don't know what the community verdict is on Chemlights, as they DO light you up like a christmas tree, but I've used them for navigating in the wilderness and tiny villages. I walk upright, and make a decent pace while staying cautious.

    The PvP Discussion Thread

Well this is getting heated. I think it's a two sided issue, but overall the people getting spawn killed are actually the benefactors: - Spawn killers are wasting ammo. - If you're really "spawn killed", you're respawning with the same stuff anyway. The real tragedy is getting killed once you have rare stuff. - If you keep dying going to one area, you can simply run to a different one. You have that choice. I'd like to expand on this last point: If you were in a real zombie apocalypse, would you REALLY run head-on into a city? That's where all the food is, but you know it'll be high risk with both zombie count and survivors looking for the same stuff you are. You might have to enter a big city as a last resort, such as a blood transfusion, but at that point you don't have much to lose anyway. Really, as a survivor, you have a lot of options when dealing with campers and bandits.
  6. Okay, thanks everyone! I thought it might require timber or wood of some kind.
  7. I think we can all agree that the number of zombies right now borders on crazy, and I think this a good thing overall. It helps prevent Deathmatching and rampant bandits ruling cities. However, there is one glaring issue right now that definitely needs to be addressed: I think a lot of people think there are more zombies than there actually are because currently, zeds can respawn in your area even if you've cleared all of them out. I had it happen to me as I was pretty much bleeding out. I had to hope for the best and mad-dash it out of an area because the zombies just kept respawning and I didn't have enough ammo or life to take them all out. I would love to see the number of zombies stay as they are, as they provide tons of benefits to gameplay. However, the algorithm needs tweaking on WHERE they can spawn, specifically have them not spawn right next to the player, or right where another zombie was just shot dead.

[VIDEO] The Zed could be like this.

Nerfing zombie speed would completely negate the point of not alerting them. If you can just run, there's no challenge anymore. That video looked like L4D or a similar game. Shooty shooty bang bang. That's not Day Z.

    Sneaking Techniques

If you're crouching, not prone in grass, they can spot you pretty easy. Wait for their back to be turned, and don't take chances. Great pointer for if you alert a zombie in a city: DO NOT SHOOT. Run. Run like your life depended on it (it does). Even if you pick up a few zeds on the way out, it won't be nearly as much as alerting an entire city block by shooting. In an emergency, such as blood loss, then yes, shoot. Otherwise, just run away as far and as fast as you can, and engage the zeds in the wilderness.

    Sneaking Techniques

I managed to survive for 3 hours by simply being patient, staying in crouch-walk, and waiting for zombie migration to provide an opening. This is in cities anyway. In the countryside, I try to stick to the trees.

    for SHAME!

People don't like change no matter what change it is. Yeah, the Zeds are a little ridiculous atm. Suck it up, it's an alpha! Plus, we might end up with increased Zed counts (not these levels, but certainly more) as a result of this.
  12. I have never played this game, but I can already tell you that branding anyone as anything other than a player is a bad idea. Why? The sense of mystery and urgency is lost. If you know someone's a bandit, you shoot. If you know they're a protector, you'll ask for help. With no player designations, it becomes much more organic and trust must be built. It provides very tense situations, and subsequently the bonds you do foster will be stronger, and the memories better. Example: New system: You run across another player. They're a "cop", as you put it. You run over and ask them for help. They probably give it to you, maybe you join them, and done is done. No designations system: You run across another player. You see them, they don't see you. You're wary to engage. You watch their actions to see if they're alone, part of a pack, and if they kill other players. You shadow them until you're more confident that they aren't a killer. You decide you want to approach them. You get closer to them, still hoping to not alert them. You put in chat or your mic: "I have my sights on you. Do not move if you want to live. Do not turn around. I'm willing to work together but I need to know if I can trust you. If you want to be friendly, lower your weapon. If you just have a pistol, salute." You wait for a response. They lower their weapon or salute. "Okay, turn around and lets talk. I will also lower my weapon. Do not raise yours or point it at me, otherwise I will fire. Do you understand?" You have a conversation with this person. They tell you their story. Ask them what they've done in the past few minutes. They aren't lying, that's one level of trust. After a while, you maybe trade supplies or even decide to travel together. Do you see how much more intense and real that was? It wasn't "This color good, this color bad."

IF this was an actual game...

I made an account just to post in this thread. Rocket, please, for the love of all that is Zombie...Make this an indie game. I want to play this game very badly, but I don't want to drop $30 on a mod. It doesn't feel worth it, with you having no financial incentive to keep developing it. You also don't have total developmental freedom over the game itself. So please, PLEASE consider trying to make a stand-alone game. - Single Purchase. I'd pay $50 (Standard asking price for PC games) for this. - Studio Developed. Players rarely know what they want, and your vision for this game is clearly what players actually want, or they wouldn't be here. Take the community's feedback, but don't prioritize it. - Studio and Community servers. Give us a standard set of servers, and let people run wild with custom servers. - Kickstarter. I would donate $50 for the game upon release. I think a lot of others would as well. Thank you, and I'll be sure to keep tabs on this, even if I don't buy Arma II.
