New Maps/The Army of the Czech Republic and DayZ...
Time Glitch replied to wasrad's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think the DayZ mod will move from Chernarus until the community does something about it. Rocket's got enough on his hands without converting another one of Arma 2's maps to DayZ. I imagine, however, that if someone put the work into it and made, say, Fallujah compatible with DayZ, it might get Rocket's attention. If we want more maps, we'll have to do it ourselves =P -

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Time Glitch replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Keep saying that word...Tribe. Right now, it's so easy to survive...Nearly everyone is on their own. This shouldn't be possible. One man vs the zombie apocalypse should be torn to shreds unless they are INCREDIBLY careful and good at survival. Right now, anyone can do it. That's why the difficulty should go up. So people form small groups...Tribes if you will...And take care of their own. Isn't that more exciting than everyone for themselves, like a damn FFA Deathmatch game? -
Anyone Else Having Trouble Staying Friendly?
Time Glitch posted a topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To be clear about butthurtness/whining, I haven't died in 11 days. I'm just about at the end of my rope. I'm still managing to keep my Murders at 0, but it's getting harder. With all of the deathmatching, and all the times I've been shot on sight for no reason in the past...I'm beginning to wonder just how worth it being friendly is. Currently, the game doesn't reward me whatsoever for being friendly, and only gives me benefits for being a dick and killing everyone I see. I've played the game for almost a month, and not once have I gotten anything better than an M4 as far as advanced equipment goes. Why? Because I don't kill people. I didn't kill the ghillie-suited badass that didn't see me. I haven't sat by the NWAF and hunted raiders. Basically, I've played by all the "good guy" rules, and I have not been rewarded. Rather, I have been punished. Rocket, I know you want to keep this a sandbox, and I want it to stay a sandbox as well. But there HAS to be some benefit to teaming up and/or not killing on sight. There HAS to be some incentive, because right now I am actively being punished for being a good guy. Friends of mine who JUST started playing do not share my optimism, and after being randomly killed once, they've started shooting on sight. Why do such innocent and newly-spawned souls resort to this? Because there is NO reason not to, other than your own morals...And that has to change. I don't have the answer, but it has to change if this mod/future game is EVER going to be more than PermaDeathmatch with Zombies. That's all. -

Let me try to address 2 arguments I'm seeing a lot. 1. More scarcity = More Bandits. I think everyone's forgetting the increased lethality of Zeds in this proposal. The snipers might still sit atop their perches, picking off the rest of the population. But when they went to collect their corpse, they'd find a sea of zeds beneath them, as well as quite a few on the corpse itself. If they shoot even one sniper round off, they're looking at dealing with at least 30 Zeds. Do they have that much ammo? Ah...Probably not. Scarcity of ammo makes it that much more risky to shoot, knowing you'll attract some zombie attention in the process. But beyond the snipers...Just two survivors find each other in the wilderness. No zed threat, really. What do they do? Well...That all depends on the person. But what my proposal does is give them more to think about; More options on the table other than "He's got items, let me kill him so I have those items now." 2. This will kill solo play. No, it'll make solo play a lot harder, but it won't be impossible. You might even have to adapt a bit; team up with someone just long enough to heal an injury or get some emergency help. But this does not KILL solo play...Something I enjoy very much. I agree with the sentiment that going it solo should be a monumental task; Something only the most cautious and smart players are capable of. Right now, solo players have 2 choices: 1. Play on "Normal" mode, which is to scavenge some items, hit up a military camp, get your toolkit, and survive. Or 2. Play on "Easy" and just kill everyone you see to get all that stuff faster. That's not surviving. Both of those options are just a process. Add some extra difficulty and scarcity in there...Now we have survival! And the closer we make this game to TRUE survival, the more people will work together. Because in real life, your chances of survival ALWAYS go up when you have someone to work with. -

I'm adding this to the OP, if you don't mind. By a bandit, for bandits =) -

It's a concept that requires more than a few seconds of thought, and that's all most people give a forum post. That's all I give most forum posts =P. But yes, when you think it through, there are elements in my proposal that actually make the game easier in some respects, provided you team up with other people. There are still parts that make it harder, period...But I think there has to be some of that to deter PvP. See, I think everyone thinks I want to get rid of PvP. No, I don't. Being afraid of bandits and having the suspense of meeting a new player is one of the best parts of the game. However, right now PvP is the easiest AND best option. If you shoot another player, you have chosen what is both the most efficient AND the option with the least risk. I want to provide some balance in that decision making process. I would want to put some thought back into the decision of "Should I shoot this guy or team up with him?". Because right now the answer is always "Shoot him". Example: Current DayZ: You see another person in Cherno. There's a few zeds around. You see they have better gear than you do, and you have a weapon. They might shoot you. So you shoot them, get their stuff, and move on. Proposed DayZ: You see another person in Cherno. There's a few zeds around, but you know there's a massive group around that you saw a few minutes ago. They'd hear your gunshots. You yourself only have a mag or two, and you're low on food. You know you couldn't survive a zombie horde investigating your position. The other guy has a better gun than you do, but if you teamed up, you'd have your gun AND his gun fighting with you. You've got some medicine...Maybe a trade! But a decision must be made... You could kill him, but you'd have to quickly pick up that weapon and deal with the incoming horde. You're hoping he has a lot of mags. You'd get his beans too, but only if you made it. Or, you could approach him. It's quieter that way, and maybe he can share some beans with you... So you open a conversation... And that's where I'll leave it, because the goal has already been reached...The player was willing to engage in conversation rather than shoot on sight because there was more at stake. The old banditry is still an option, but now there's a consequence to it. Just like there's currently a consequence for engaging in conversation in Current DayZ. And that's what so many people don't understand: THERE IS NO CONSEQUENCE FOR KILL-ON-SIGHT. There IS consequence for attempting to be friendly. THAT is why everyone shoots everyone on sight. We must expand the system to allow for more REASONABLE player choice.- 766 replies

The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Time Glitch replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
this is already the case. wild exaggerations or using your own personal playstyle/experiences as the basis for an entire community with hundreds of thousands of players is not going to further any suggestions you want to present. Tell me...When was the last time you were approached with friendly intentions? 90% of encounters in DayZ boil down to either shooting or total avoidance. Bandits engage, and survivors hide. That's not interaction. That's rampant paranoia because there's no benefit to being friendly. Here's to hoping that changes. -

And when Rocket introduces more fortification-building mechanics, settling an area will drastically increase survival chances in this new, harsher DayZ. Forming bigger groups will benefit you on supply runs. Having more people to contribute to the food and medical supplies pool will help your group survive longer. Chances of finding a vehicle go up with more people looking. It's a natural progression.- 766 replies

Obviously some tweaks would need to be made to the current food/water system, as well as some others. This is not something to just be tacked on...This is a complete overhaul of what we know so far. -

Thanks, man. I would look forward to the challenge, though most will probably say "Then everyone will be even MORE desperate!" The trick though, is that in this scenario, asking for help will be more beneficial than taking their items. The idea here is to give players more power than their items. I think that if this kind of change were to be made, it should all be unleashed in one big update...And everyone and everything gets wiped. Force everyone to live in fear and hopelessness again. -

I think the OP is also the guy who wants to set up Freeside Trading Co. So, I'm betting his idea has moved on from this. Still, this does sound like an interesting idea. Would require quite a few people to pull off though. -
Anyone Else Having Trouble Staying Friendly?
Time Glitch replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the psychological effects that have been brought up around the community would be a great deterrent to the senseless killing. I imagine if you just killed everyone you see, you'd probably start getting more jumpy. Maybe you get more "twitchy" and have a small chance to fire your weapon randomly if you see a zombie or other player at a certain range. Like, if you round a corner and see a zombie, you have a chance of just firing off a shot. The heartbeat is a great start, but maybe we add some twitchy idle animations as well, to identify a low-humanity player from a distance. Head constantly on a swivel? Bouncing up and down a little while crouched? Re-gripping the weapon? These are all features that might subtly punish those with super-low humanity. -

This sounds really interesting...Pretty much exactly what I wanted to start up when my little group got some vehicles and tents. I'd like to at least help out in some capacity, but I do have a group I still play with on the side. How are things going? Are you guys set up? Are you getting any traders? Just wanting to know if it's worth committing some time to or if it's failing =) In case you ARE still up and running: Steam Name: mixedpizza22 TS3 Name: (Don't Have One Yet) In-Game Name: Kellan Forum Name: Time Glitch Timezone (UTC): UTC -8 Roles you would like to fill: Gatherer, Organization, or Guard. I'm always a fan of scavenging, I'm decent with organizational skills (Not so much experience at, say, setting up a strategic location though), and I can definitely work guard duty if the payoff is good enough.

"Accidental" Current Vehicle Location map US 29 Atlanta 5
Time Glitch replied to Svetovid's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I know that US90 just got plagued by a group of hackers who somehow knew where all the vehicles were, and took them all and put 'em off the map. I think the same thing may have happened on US91 as well. This could be a new hack. -
Player Request: US91 Needs Dev or Experienced Admin Attention
Time Glitch posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I have a large group of players that has chosen US91 as our home server, and we play on there almost every day. We have a camp set up that we worked very hard for, and we don't want to hop servers again. Why would we want to? Because as more time goes on, the server just seems to be a little broken here and there. I'm hoping that by posting this, it can get some Dev attention, or at least an experienced server admin to help the current admins out. I have talked to LVG extensively about the server and he basically says "We need to wait on a Dev, we don't know what the problem is." So here's what my group and I have noticed about US91: - Direct Communication does not work. Neither VON or Chat. The current server admin is aware of this issue. - Time of Day is very wonky. I don't know what the time zone for the server is, but we can log in very late at night and it still be light out. We can also log out when it's getting dark, and when we log back in, it's magically light out for another half hour or so. - Zed spawning/Loot spawning was VERY off last night. I had done the re-log trick a few times to get some more visibility, and something was very off about Zed and Loot spawns. I hit up the NE Airfield, and there was NOTHING of value whatsoever, but then the Krasnostav general store had 2 pairs of Binocs and THREE Maps? Something's wrong here. - Vehicles don't seem to be spawning. We ran around half the continent last night, checking everywhere from Gorka to Elektro to Tulga to Berezino...NOTHING. We had TWO teams at one time checking separate locations, and not a vehicle to be found. We haven't checked the western part of the world yet, but I'm not expecting anything. I think something has to be wrong with the vehicle spawns. I've spent considerable time on the server, and I also have never seen another player vehicle. That's just about it, but those are some pretty big bugs. I really hope that our server can get some help, because we don't want to have to server hop yet again in hopes of finding a stable server =/ -

Currently in DayZ, zombies are something to only be worried about in towns and cities. Even then, they're a bit of an afterthought. They're something you can prepare for and avoid with relative ease. I think this needs to change. I don't know how possible it would be, but I would love to start seeing wandering zombies around the wilderness and backroads. There wouldn't have to be many, maybe 3-5 in a small pack, but enough to keep you on your toes. But there needs to be more. I would like to see (very rarely) a huge pack of zombies. 30-40 zeds who are just shambling aimlessly in one direction. Maybe they start in a place like Cherno, and just keep going. Maybe they gain more members as they move through towns. My point is, I want to see herds of zombies. I want to freeze in my tracks as I realize that there's a huge horde right in front of me in the woods, or see them from afar on the plains. This would put zombies back in the minds of the hermits and wilderness survivors out there, as well as present a huge, ever-roaming threat that could be encountered by anyone. What's your thoughts?
