What MineZ is Doing Right, and What DayZ Could Learn From It.
Time Glitch replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I didn't miss your point. I nailed it on the head. Everyone's argument to this is "Start playing X way and you won't have a sniper problem anymore" So again, I ask, now who's punishing a playstyle? The fact of the matter is that currently a solo, non-sniper friendly player is getting punished. THAT is who's getting punished in this game, and yet nobody's crying foul about that. However, whenever those of us who do play like that say "Hey, we're kinda tired of getting sniped whenever we decide to loot a building", everyone starts shitting their pants over a possible reduction of high-tier weapons. They aren't GONE, they're just more rare. You can still snipe me with a CZ or Lee Enfield, you know. My suggestions simply help out us solo friendlies a bit. ADAPT is not an argument. -

And what if I'm not interested in sniping? Who's punishing a playstyle now? -

Now who's punishing a playstyle? The only way to counter snipers is to join a group? Then what about those who prefer solo play? But snipers ARE punishing solo play...So... There is no way you're not going to punish someone, and if it has to be someone it might as well be the pricks who are sniping you for your beans. And NOTHING I am proposing is a damn restriction. Go read it again. Go read it 5 times. NOTHING is restricting. I am not PUNISHING anyone. If you think that reducing the number of high-tier rifles is somehow PUNISHING A PLAYSTYLE then you ARE deluded. -

And you as well. The only problem is that there is NO WAY to counter hidden snipers. You can't form a group and punish these people. -

I refuse to believe that Rocket's vision for this game was for it to boil down to a hidden snipe-fest. And YOU are a very irritating individual. Tell me what you would do differently, hmm? You are solo. You happen across a town. You scout it and the surrounding area for 10 minutes. You decide it is safe. You go into town. You loot a building, you come out the way you came in (safe), you look both ways, you get sniped. Why? Because someone, without you knowing while you were inside, has logged in or come across town, and decided they wanted to set up sniper camp, they saw you, and killed you. How is that "me being bad?" -

Player tags are something gamey, but the represent something in our heads, called names. Friendly people tell each other their names. Unfriendly people are still identified in our heads as "That dick at work" or "That asshole who always parks too close to me". Nametags are there IRL, they're just invisible. Perhaps you're right. If there was advanced player customization already in place (Different clothes/face/build) then maybe that would be enough to identify people on alone, and we can make up our own names for our enemies. Then the game needs to fix server hopping and duping as well. Whatever the cause, reduction is NEEDED, and one way I can think of doing that is rebalancing the damn loot tables. Personally, I have never server hopped, or duped, and I still find a zillion military weapons. So that's where I'm coming from. The reason I get killed from an unseen sniper is because I scout out an area, and proceed to go in. Then, while I'm down in the town or whatnot, someone happens to come along, and without any way for me to know, lines up a shot and kills me. There's no way to protect yourself in that kind of a situation. I DO scout areas. I have stayed alive for DAYS. I know what I'm doing, but that doesn't stop the random sniping when there is no possible way to know where the enemy is. -

How about you stop ignoring what I'm saying in my posts and actually listen. If the game had started with very little military loot, nobody would be complaining that there isn't enough military loot. The only reason you're complaining about a possible lack of it is because you're used the abundance, and like I said in my post, you can survive just as well against Zombies with a Winchester as you can with an M4 or even the insane thermal/nv guns. Hell, you can probably PvP with them just as well too. What you're telling me is that everyone having a DMR or M24 or whatnot is all "part of the design", and it's all "part of the design" that almost every death in the game is attributed to some unseen sniper 500m away killing you for shits and giggles. If that were the case, this game would just be called "Sniper deathmatch with loot". But it's not. It's DayZ, and it's supposed to be a zombie apocalypse survival sim. In a harsh world where resources are limited, and simply FINDING a gun would be a godsend...Everyone running around with ghillie suits and sniper rifles is NOT something that would be happening. -

How are my suggestions "horrible"? How does it change the game AT ALL from its current state? - Add a "wave" animation with no delay. - Make Zeds harder to take down solo. - REDUCE, not REMOVE high-powered weapon counts. CZ 550 will still be there for all your sniping needs. This is as simple as removing military loot from Deerstands. - Adding further player customization to allow for unique identification. - Player nametags at close range for further identification. I ask you again, how is this breaking DayZ? It's adding some personality to the characters, upping Zed difficulty, and rebalancing the weapon loot tables. How is this ruining the game? I never said remove high-power weapons. I said reduce their numbers. No, but I wouldn't shoot them either. EDIT: And for the record, removing some high-powered weapons IS NOT PUNISHING BANDITRY. It's adding some fucking realism. You think everyone in a real Zed apocalypse will be toting military gear? Think again. -

I think that limiting the amount of high powered weapons would certainly lower the immediate threat level. The amount of snipers, for instance. I'm trying to suggest some changes that might lead to more player cooperation rather than "Lets play sniper" on a hill, with everyone killing everyone either on-sight or from 500m away with a 50 cal...In a "realistic" zombie apocalypse. -
Basic network knowledge goes a long way in these situations.

This'll just get buried, but vehicles and tents may reappear once the Hive stops getting fried by server requests. Wait a day, and ask your admins to restart the server. By then, this should have all died down and you may get your shit back. Happened to me every update.

Here's to burning out yet another server! Cheers! My public service for the day will be to seed 1.7.2 as long as my computer is on. I've got a great upload speed, so suck it up people! Hopefully this will give those of you using the torrent a bit of stability.

This is hilarious. I really, really hope you feel like you wasted $30. I hope that you continue to waste your money on games, expecting instant gratification from each and every one of them. You know what, I'll be kind. There's this wonderful franchise called Call of Duty. The second you do ANYTHING in the game, it gives you points and makes you feel special. You get to blow things up and shoot stuff, sometimes even zombies! It's great! You should really give it a try.

Fucking YES GODDAMN PLEASE.

Suggestions: Rare Items, Customisation and an Immersive HUD.
Time Glitch replied to adamtheheretic's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
A big thing to take away from most of these "make the game harder" suggestions is decrease in military loot. I mean for f***s sake, everyone and their mother seems to have a DMR or at least a good assault weapon. MAYBE I could believe that a lot of people have Klashnikovs (This is ex-Soviet after all), but there should NOT be NATO weapons lying all over the place. Furthermore, there should not be enough where you have entire squads of people rolling around with Military snipers and M4s with ACOG sights. Tone it the f*** down. Take them away from Deer Stands. Stary Sobor should have Klasnikovs and maybe a sniper or two. The ONLY area to get high-grade military loot should be the Barracks at the NWAF. And even then, it should be pretty damn hard to get ahold of something like a 50-cal sniper rifle. I also support the removal of GPS, and cutting down on NVGs even further. -
The ONLY Realistic Way to Prevent Deathmatching: Make DayZ a Living Hell
Time Glitch replied to Time Glitch's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
This is assuming that the new Zed AI is actually working and you can break LoS easier than you can currently, and they're unable to see/walk through walls. -
I've thought this is pretty ridiculous since looking at the actual loot tables. You're insinuating that all households and urban areas may potentially have tents, but farms wouldn't? I'm not angry or anything about this, I just think that having ZERO chance of finding a tent in a barn is a bit inaccurate =).

Game is the most fun at the very beginning?
Time Glitch replied to Torothin's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I agree completely, and this feeling can be carried on much further with a few tweaks to water, food, and ammo spawns. Simply have less of them! Less ammo means more conservation. Less food and water means more scavenging. Going beyond this, maybe decreasing ALICE pack spawns and increasing the spawns of those 10 slot Assault bags instead. Make getting on your feet and ready to go live as a hermit a little harder. It's way too easy atm. -
So great to have Rocket back!
-
There is one reason, and one reason only, that I do not use the Crossbow. No, it's not because the sights suck (They do). Ammo. This thing takes up an absolutely ridiculous and unrealistic amount of space for its ammo. Yes, you can retrieve your arrows, but come on. I shouldn't need 6 slots free for 6 shots. I don't know how you can implement it exactly, as I'm ignorant to the modding ways, but if you can PLEASE condense the amount of space the Crossbow ammo takes up. Thanks!

Just like the backpacks...Please give us some indication of when our tents and vehicles are nearing capacity. Thanks!

Give Tents/Vehicles Inventory Space Counters

Nobody wants to use a calculator to figure out how much space they've got left in their tents... -

Cool' date=' well done, but that's still not in the suggestions thread. Thanks for bumping the topic though ;) [/quote'] It also has nothing to do with giving us an easy visual indicator of how much space we have left in our tents and vehicles =P
