Loving 1.7.2.5, awesome additions/fixes, I am most impressed.
spazfokel replied to Cpt.Carramack's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
the artifact issue is certainly not fixed, green mountain, stary sobor camp and airfield are one massive acid trip. zombies seem much better tho, indeed. less rng in their detection, and indeed seemingly better pathfinding. still fell in a invisible whole on a rock when raiding a camp, and when trying to step out of it I simply died instantly. seeya in a few patches again I guess. maybe. If I can be arsed to pay another bill for my server. -
there are some issues some time, the other day ACP was down, yep. Maintenance or update or w/e, dont care. I can do whatever I need to via RCON anyway. I had zero actual serverdowntimes caused by vilayer, the times my server was down was due to hacking reports, which will cause me to just take it down and check the logs respectively once I have the time for it. I personally appreciate the service vilayer supply, emails on updates/patches, ready to go patch packs with additional content (BE Script files), early access to updates (as they are just the biggest hoster) and so on and so on. The support is not excessive, but in TS you usually find help, and if after some waiting. Nobody ever claimed that you´ll be serviced within a minute, get real. This business doesnt exactly offer massive margins, especially as the racks youre offered here are top notch and not overloaded to sell a slot twice. Support is expensive, and you´re being services here by those that actually are working on the servers as well, qualified technicians. I found a new employee the other day, so they are staffing up, although, as f4ll3n said, they are taking a massive risk jumping into a alpha game mod in such a massive scale right there.

calling all dayz Members Admins wanted
spazfokel replied to matt6950's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
i´m picturing dozens of idiot kiddies with a great application that punch that restart button about as frequently as they scratch their balls, because that gives them a mighty feel. your hoster will exile you for burning down the box and them kiddies dont give a crap about whether it´s not allowed to ban without the (utterly ridiculous) dayz procedure of mastered birocracy. it´s your server that is being blacklisted eventually, they dont loose anything. -
Looking to buy a server for our clan
spazfokel replied to c4r1b0u's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
scratch "for our clan". that term is evil in dayz eyes. you could abuse the whole system just to gain a bit of advantage for the bucks, as in use the slots you pay for. evil stuff! other than that, I can recommend vilayer (see link below), good performace, very good prices and you are being helped if needed. plus the tools available are top notch. -
see, and how you presumably did that would have been the sole interesting part in this discussion. plus, what´s the exact use of seeing inventory contents if that is rather the lesser evil nowadays?

Have some beans OP. I shut my server down now waiting for some proper tools developed by the community that enables me to keep my server clean without actually staring at rcon or a streamed log all day (hence, I´m working full time AND doing a degree in my late 20s. I don´t have time to download otherwise ridiculously massive logs every day and look through them for possible commands that dont tell me shit anyway) Since the last weekend, my server get´s properly attacked by people teleporting players to one spot and killing them. I get a steam message on my phone while at work and shut the server down. later that night I download my logs and start the server again while I`m looking through them. BANG 10 minutes later, a message from a player that has been on my server for quite a while, reporting the same happening again. OK, take it down, redownload the logs to have the current state, fair enough. Eventually all this takes so much time, I just go play something else. I would still enjoy playing DayZ very much, but it is kind of frustrating running for hours to find half decent gear just to get shot at a helo spawn by a group of players with EXACTLY the same gear. who hasnt seen the infamous silenced M4, M9SD ghillie, GPS, NV, RF combo with a certain amount of ammo in a corpse of idiots. We had a whole bunch of them, sadly one survived and actually shot me down (not to mention the combat logging to move half their squad behind us, advantage of surprise wasnt enough I guess). So I did some research, and 10 minutes googling later, I know why this combination of gear is so common. There´s ready to go scripts available, so easy to use, it is ridiculous. And there is nil and nothing I can do about it, unless these items are actually spawned on my very server. BE is extremely easy to bypass, and the rules disable me to take any action myself. Long story short, I´m waiting for said tools that stream and check logs on the go and give it a try. If that doesnt work or the functionality needed for these gets removed, I got some more money to spend on other things.

I personally have it in the MotD on my server saying that inappropriate and offensive names earn a kick, recurrence will be banned. Occasionally I have to hand out a kick when I´m online and see something, but so far nobody actually came back with the same name. If anybody wants to complain, I´ll post the respective log showing the login with the name and sorted.

logging in and out smells like duping. :X -

you are aware that the instance ID is not provided by the hoster, but rather they have to request it from dayZ directly? If not, there you go. at all the hijackers, still a long way to get to a level with vilayer. they do what they can, and that very good, including thoughtful updating or supplying multiple update packages to auto-install with one button click for you to choose. something important happened with dayZ (like enforced beta version)? email in your inbox notifying you and giving you all the info you need. plus the interface is beautifully useful. 4 hours wait for a server to be set up, 24 hours should be your benchmark, this is not a take-away business, especially when 3rd parties (dayZ team) are involved and can cause potential delays.

If you dont have a actual interface you can find the logfiles in your cfgdayz folder. -
@DayZ Server rules - Necessary review
spazfokel replied to Yshido's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
heavily agree with OP, the log situation aside, as long as this mod requires externals to supply the space for people to play, those should be granted the right to decide to a certain point. standards are a good thing, but denying any right for what one pays for is a bit too much, plus those rules are simply not applicable as it is at the moment, to a extent where they threat to become counterproductive. I used to work for a big games company, and am very familiar with a certain code of conduct when it comes to what to tolerate from players, and what not. as it is at the moment, I can´t apply that on my server at all, actually making the situation worse than it would need to be. hence I´m seriously considering saving on these expenses for now and removing those slots I supply to the community with my private income. -
I walked through a door and died of it. not getting hit by it, walking through.... :P Besides, I approve of that whole forcing a certain update, way to go guys.

Official Request: Server Admin (ONLY) Forum.
spazfokel replied to TR1GGA187's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
+1 for this. had a nice chat with a bunch of other admins earlier on the vilayer ts, that was A) really really nice to have and B) really really helpful. I´m sure a place to exchange experience and knowledge, and maybe get a oppinion on certain things or even share guides on how to logsearch properly can only help to increase the quality of dayZ servers. -
Connection Log? Kicked from server.
spazfokel replied to chrismgtis's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
And in fairness, I reserve the right to remove people from my server. Yes, kicking to make room for friends/clan/little sister is considered uncool. Yet I damn sure don´t have to keep anybody on my server I don´t want to be there. As mentioned above, that might be due to your ping being overly high (it is a serverside setting that automatically gives your client the GTFO if your connection to the server is substandard). If you randomly clicked quick match in your six launcher, you might have ended up on a AU server being from central europe. Hence that ping really wasn´t great. Stop mocking about and make proper use of the server browser. -
So I figured I could spare some of my income and got myself a server for that neat mod of yours. Unfortunately, that isn´t exactly as easy as entering some credit card details. One of the biggest issues I see at the moment is that DayZ want to make sure that nobody destroys the experience people have with the game. So far, a completely legit thing to aim for, and totally understandable to apply this particularly to server admins. Problems start where this currently leads unfortunately to something that literally leaves us with being people paying for capacity for the masses the hype drags towards DayZ. Which is fine. I don´t want any fancy spawn console, superpowers, uber privileges or appearance in the credits when the game goes standalone. All I want is some system in what happens, especially around updates. - why not enforce the signup for your support portal, so nobody is being signed up by their provider for a instance ID, thus not having access to this portal. - why not supply patchfiles to providers beforehand? I reckon you don´t randomly decide to push a major update. - why not even go as far as having the update pushed during a general scheduled downtime? Imagine, all major providers (and yes, I´m sure you know of each and single one out there that is to be considered serious) getting the necessary files 24h before official release. They prepare the push, and either enforce their servers to shut down, update, and restart - or they unlock the update pack in the respective admin panel at given release time, giving the admins the choice to push the update through right away, or wait how it works out. the latter takes some load of the hive, the former ensures that you have everybody on the same version at any given time. the latter alternative above can be supported through a newsletter formatted notification sent to all server admins with a reasonable notice, giving them the information they need. This is btw where that enforced signup for your support portal thing comes into play again. All part of a big plan. :> Yes I know being that open with information does support leaks, but what´s the worst to happen, people being excited? As long as you rely on amateurs to host your game, you can´t really expect a secrecy standard of AAA releases. I see where you are coming from being all cocky and "nobody asked you to pay for a server, now play by our rules". Rules are fine, but make lives a tad bit easier, or at least give some involvement. I´d like to give my server community the chance to play the new patch right away. Most people using Six Launcher as encouraged to didn´t exactly have the choice to update or not. If I wanted to, I´d even like to hold back a update until it runs stable. Of course that doesn´t exactly help with people testing the new update. But you sounded pretty proud on rezzed about those peak numbers, and how many unique player there are. Damn you so can be, but I´m sure we are at a point here where the actual mass of players doesn´t give much more than statistical data that you likely make use of for your work on the balancing. Keep in mind who pays for exactly that success your mod is having, if you measure your success in numbers, remember who gives them the place to play. If there are about 1000 servers, that cost an (low estimate) average of 50€ (convert as you like), 50 grand are spent a month right there. I might have been carried away a bit, but hell... Not that I have exactly a lot to do with my time but waiting for my serverupdate to be pushed. :> Try to find a way that doesn´t feel as bad, and is maybe even a bit more practical. Then I´m a happy camper... with a raided tent.

**Awesome Server Host**New Timchanging feature & Pre-whitelisted | VILAYER
spazfokel replied to johndstill@gmail.com's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
certainly there is support on weekends, just have to find out where to look for it. ;) although I find johnny should get some frontline support ppl to take care of those tickets that likely make up the majority of contacts (like: "Q_Q it´s lagging" - "it´s the hive, we can´t do anything about it"), which as a result would take load off the guys actually taking care of the servers. although taking care of everything at the same time, kudos for ian and lee for a) being there at sunday midnight and past looking at things, and b) while doing that even having the nerv for a nice chat. so some consideration and common sense ppl, you´re getting the good stuff here, and have a very personal care (as opposed to generic emails from a generic mailbox giving you generic information you didn´t ask for). -
if searching for weapons again is a turn off for you, i wish you good luck for doing exactly that in approx. 1 hour, or so.

Has anybody else found that the AKS-74U is a bit better than the standard AKs?
spazfokel replied to Captain Q's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i agree, and would take the aks74u always over a normal aks74... as long as I don´t find a aks74 cobra that is :> -
People aren't as coldblooded as you think.
spazfokel replied to Benlandia's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You do realize tho that you need to be somewhat close to hear said verbal warning, right? :P I try to keep my encounters on a certain distance, and have my mate cover my back. why? the bare looks of a coyote bp makes you look like that giant walking sandwich to a half starved wanderer in the desert. -
interesting question, 3 zombies killed and that gear? sneaky a lot, eh?

Luckiest loot you've discovered?
spazfokel replied to Mays (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
while me and my mate were looting a church, suddenly random player logged in right there. I was like, nice coyote backpack, and shot him. Found like any single thing that one could want except for weapons, the backpack full of med supplies and rare ammo, gps, compass, map, NV, RF, 2 canteens, knife... everything. some food and sodas as well. the interesting part started where he logged in a few meters further again, same name, exact same gear again. hence we shot him again, neat gear for both of us. he actually came once again before we called it, but hey... we had what we needed. :P except for a proper weapon... : /
