How to stop people from playing Day Z
DaPessimist replied to dirtystinkinninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I actually tend to live for hours and days at a time... but I recognize that death is inevitable, and I don't get attached to my items. Understand that dying is part of the game, and you won't get frustrated and quit when it happens. -
How to stop people from playing Day Z
DaPessimist replied to dirtystinkinninja's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The point of the game is to die. Welcome to Day Z, life expectancy; 27 minutes. -
My Rant: Why I am Done with the Game.
DaPessimist replied to BusterFrisco's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If you want to play BF3, then go play BF3. -
During the US daytime, the US servers are always overloaded, because the majority of Europe/Russia players prefer to playing during the daytime. During the Europe/Russia daytime, the Europe/Russia servers are always overloaded, because the majority of US players prefer playing during the daytime. I'm no different. I personally can't stand playing in the pitch black, and during US nights, I play on Europe/Russia servers. The point? As long as day/night cycles are left as "realistic", and there are little or no regional constraints, all daytime servers will always be under heavy load. I understand the game is meant to be a simulation, but lately, it's more a "waiting for server response" simulator than an actual game. Have the devs considered changing the day/night cycle? Perhaps making it a 12 hour day/night cycle, as opposed to a 24 hour day/night cycle?

Why I play a female character even though I am a dude
DaPessimist replied to gogozombie's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I will play a female because I feel other players will be less likely to shoot on sight. -
Played about 80 hours so far, and have only killed one other player (in self-defense).

WTF is happening to the server community.
DaPessimist replied to Koot (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
90% of gamers these days are "carrot-on-a-stick" gamers. They play games to be rewarded. In this game, there are only rewards for Bandits, and no rewards for Survivors. The idea that "survival" is the reward won't resonate with modern gamers. This is why you will eventually end up with nothing but Bandits playing your game. Which is fine, but don't expect to be able to change the mentality of the modern gamer. I personally feel like you need to offer some type of reward to encourage surviving. Even if it is something basic like a title for people who live a long time, or help other players, or kill bandit players. People will only try to "play nice" for so long without any type of reward... then they will either quit, or become shoot-on-sight bandits themselves. I'm all for what you're trying to do Rocket, but the average gamer these days doesn't even understand the concept of a sandbox game. They want to be led by the nose, and rewarded for every step they take. To be fair, in a sandbox game, you need to give the players lots of toys and tools to create their own experiences. DayZ has a great foundation, but when endgame consists of fixing cars and helicopters, it's not surprising that people will grow tired of the experience. I've read lots of great ideas that involve establishing player bases, player housing, and perhaps fixing/controlling power plants. If the game/mod is to have any type of longevity, players will have to be given more tools to play with. My favorite game/MMO of all-time is still Star Wars Galaxies. The game allowed to feel as if you were actually living in the World. DayZ offers that same feeling, to an extent. The problem is that the tools afforded are limited. This isn't your fault, nor did you ask for this responsibility. But the people who initially fell in love with your game/mod, are the same people who have desired a sandbox world to call their own for years. Mainstream developers are afraid to create a true sandbox game, because it's easier to just target the "carrot-on-a-stick", and there are a lot more of them ($$$). I guess what I'm trying to say is that the "carrot-on-a-stick" crowd will never be happy with your game/mod, and the sandbox crowd will always demand more tools. You're in a lose - lose situation, and I hope that you don't let it drive you crazy. Relax, enjoy what you're doing, and stick to your vision. -
Daytime servers are always overloaded.
DaPessimist replied to DaPessimist's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Understand this thread was created when 99% of servers were on REAL TIME. Now, there are tons of servers that are running inverse time, or just shifted time schedules. The issue of overloaded daytime servers is a lot less problematic now. -
Am I the only on who loves dying?
DaPessimist replied to fix_'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't mind dying. I certainly try to live as long as possible, but I don't take it too seriously when I die. -
Why we need MANY more zombies... and in the wilderness too
DaPessimist replied to LondonHyena's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'd like to see Wolves, Mountain Lions, and Bears in the woods. -
He doesn't like us. I don't like us. Hopefully he has the will to stick to his vision. Most developers end up caving to the pressure.

I'm all for DayZ's success, and there is definitely a market out there for this type of game... but let's not act like CoD didn't sell MILLIONS of copies. I'm personally in love with this game, but a large development studio or publisher wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. Thank god we have indie developers who still aren't afraid to take some risks.

If you don't like 3rd person view, or think it's "cheesing", then just play on servers that force 1st person view...

Why should killing other players be a punishable act?
DaPessimist replied to Pat_the_Bunny's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
There is no counter to Bandits, outside of avoiding every other person in the game. Every time you make contact with another player, as a Survivor, you are playing Russian roulette. The Bandit holds all the cards, and has all the advantages. Survivor - Friendly? Bandit - Yes, I'm friendly! *bullet to the back of the head* So if you want to play as a Survivor, your options are to play Solo, or team up with RL friends and guildies, period. The risk vs. reward of trusting anyone else simply isn't worth it. Also, it doesn't help that Survivors are forced to talk in global chat to communicate, giving any Bandit all the info they need to scout and kill any Survivor. It's like shooting fish in a barrel. -
Fridge Logic; There is no Bandit - Thoughts on the 'Anti-Game'
DaPessimist replied to Swi1ch's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
What's the benefit of not being a bandit? Answer? There is none. Welcome to CoD with Zombies. -
Why should killing other players be a punishable act?
DaPessimist replied to Pat_the_Bunny's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think the better question is, why should PKers be heavily rewarded, while people who choose not to PK get nothing but a bullet in the back. -
Keep Spawning with Red Hunger and Red Thirst
DaPessimist replied to Nincro's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
This is working as intended. However, I haven noticed a bug that after you die, you spawn a new life already hungry and thirsty. I don't think that is working as intended. -
I think the biggest problem is people logging out / Alt + F4ing to avoid conflict. There needs to be a 60-90 second timer for logging out. If someone wants to Alt + F4 out of the game, then there character should persist for 60-90 seconds.

Argument for incentivising cooperative group gameplay without nerfing banditry
DaPessimist replied to Brontez TW's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The risk of grouping for outweighs the rewards. I can live just fine, stacked with everything my heart desires running solo. Grouping up with anyone but RL friends or Guildies offers no rewards, but plenty of risks. Unless you play with RL friends or guildies, this is a solo game, period. -
THE Night is TOO DAMN DARK Thread. Others will be deleted etc.
DaPessimist replied to Slamz's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Go out in a forest on a moonless night' date=' you can't see anything which is exactly how this game functions.[/quote'] I've lived in the Country, and after a few minutes, your eyes adjust. Is that represented in the game? Or should I adjust my brightness and gamma every few minutes to simulate reality? Also, actual humans are able to use other senses to find our way. We can feel the ground with our feet, and detect objects and motion through sound and feel. This is not accurately depicted in the game either. So please, let's not act like walking through a black screen in a video game is the same as moving through a dark night in real life. -

My only issue is that it isn't realistic dark. -
Your Definition of Self Defence?
DaPessimist replied to Latros's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've played maybe 80 hours and never killed another player. -
I know it can be frustrating, but understand it is alpha, and dying is part of this game. I actually like to kill myself after gathering too much stuff because the game becomes too serious for me. It feels refreshing to shed the gear and just start over. Approach the game as if dying is inevitable, and I've found it is much more fun. I'm sure Rocket and crew will eventually iron out some of the annoying bugs. Here is me shedding some weight; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7WZYecPIQQ

Flying off a building should kill you. Are you using the Q and E while prone? Sounds like it. And the door bug is pretty bad, but funny also. Just be careful when you open and close doors. I've played maybe 80 hours combined, and only died from one bug... glitching off a ladder. Obviously there are bugs, but it hasn't effected me all that much to be honest.
