Which T-Shirt design would you buy?

This is the only one that'll get my vote, or my wallet out. Do it!

What do we call our undead friends?

I use 'Zeds' when in a hurry, if I'm spotting them for my crew and have enough time, I'll go into detail and call them shamblers, hoppers, or crawlers. On the rare occasion I'll call them zmobies or zombles.

    Build 1.5.8.2 Hotfix

I've had the fps drop too, but for me it was perfectly fine until I respawned, then dropped from 50+ down to about 5. Closing Arma and restarting brought it back to normal, until the next respawn.

    Build 1.5.8.2 Hotfix

I agree, I think this has to change eventually. (but whenever you get time, Rocket, you've done an incredible job so far, get some sleep man) I can't think of an argument for why you should be getting hungry and thirsty while offline that doesn't also then support the idea that zeds should be able to eat you while you're offline. Why not demand a bandage the moment you log in, every time you log in? If you're in a state where you're digestive system is active, the zed's digestive systems should also be active, and they should be nibbling on your ankles.

    Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

I completely disagree. Any penalty should be brought on by survivors on the server who are displeased with the actions of some of the players. The point of 'emergent gameplay' is to see what happens when you don't guide players to behave in a certain fashion. What you're advocating will make the game significantly less interesting, imo.

    Bandit/Survivor Morphing to be removed

I think this change will be for the better. To those complaining about not being able to tell friend from foe on sight anymore, well, to you I say that you never could. What Rocket is doing by removing the bandit skins is replacing misinformation with ambiguity, which is better for the suspenseful feel of the game, imo. I've never had a bandit skin, but may your god help you if you ever stumble across me, my crew, and my M16 in game, as I don't need you around... Similarly, I've met plenty of nice folks cursed with bandit skins they didn't really earn.

    Humanity Information?

Does your humanity max out at a certain level from just moving around, or can you eventually get 50k just for going on a really long walK? This bandit skin madness has to go, it makes no sense. Tracking humanity in a way that's visible only to yourself would be fine, but the bandit skins do nothing useful, as made apparent by the contrast between your character and mine. I don't play nice at all, I run with a crew that often hunts and preys on other players, but because I'm lucky enough to have all the bandit kills, and a few others in self defence, I've got more humanity than I began with. Personally, I'd like to see bandit skins gone, and have everyone be able to choose exactly what their character wears. Evil just shouldn't be so readily apparent.

    First Impressions of DayZ

I must be the only person that likes playing at night... all my friends hate it too, consider it unplayable, but it's not, really. Just requires some adjusting. Travelling at night is difficult when you log in back in the deep dark woods and all you see in any direction are trees, but if you can make out anything distinct on the horizon, navigation is at least possible.
  9. tl;dr indeed... I don't see what you did there, etc. btw, the 'merkin war on drugs began somewhere around 1930 with Harry Anslinger's crusade against marijuana, though it had been illegal in many states for many years before that. edit: wait a sec, now I see what you did there... You're NPR! I've been tricked into effectively listening to NPR! I'm disgusted...

Food and water being used offline

So why then can't the zombies eat you while you're offline? Zombies should be able to find your apparently resting body and devour it. If you log back in and have no leg, tough titty toenails, I say (sarcastically). edit: Having to immediately apply a bandage and inject morphine on login is as valid as having to immediately eat and drink. Might as well just completely reset each character whenever you log off at that point.

Food and water being used offline

Count me as part of the camp that believes nothing at all should happen to your character while offline. As it is, I try to make sure I have some food and water on me before logging off, but I've been bitten despite that, and lost an 8+ hour streak to this issue combined with lack of server stability and weird saving glitches. (I logged in, ate, drank, then got dc'd, and immediately relogged to find myself starving and dehydrated again, but without any food on me and none in the town I was next to. I spent my last 5-10 minutes desperately scavenging, finding nothing.)

IF this was an actual game...

Game purchase only!! (Guild Wars stylez, but if you include microtransactions, they'd better damn well be for purely aesthetic things, different clothes and such) - Community developed or studio developed? I dunno, keep EA and Activision the hell away from it at least. They tend to ruin things. - Community or studio servers? or both? Probably both, I like the persistence that I assume you can only get by controlling servers, but allowing community servers that are isolated from the central server could be advantageous. - Kickstarter? or not? Probably no point... open it up to crowdsourcing I guess, since it wouldn't hurt, but I don't think it'd be able to drive the whole project.

    Darwin List: Banned Users

I have a question about hacked weapons, or rather a situation that came up and neither I nor my comrades were sure if it was a hack or just a glitch. One of my team mates found an AK on the ground, but when he examined the item, it said it was an MP5. What's up with that? I advised him to leave it, just in case. What was the deal with that? Hack or bug?
  14. That only works on scrub difficulty... if you plan to utilize any sort of stealthy tactics while you play, you gotta go veteran, which I *always* do. Bandit skin is a completely useless idea, too, but as long as everyone realizes that, then it at least shouldn't cause problems. I don't have a bandit skin. I should, I RP as a very cold, ruthlessly efficient, calculating monster in game, yet my humanity is through the roof. If you meet me, I'm likely to kill you, but if I do, I'll likely be able to justify it mathematically.
  15. Is Kirvin your IGN? If not, let us know what it is, I'll help look out for ya, or at least not shoot you, if I ever see you around.

Flashlights and why you should start with them

I found a remington with a torch on it tonight, but no ammo. I swapped my enfield for it, hoping I'd eventually find some slugs. Never did, but I appreciated having to carefully weigh my options and make that difficult choice.

Flashlights and why you should start with them

I feel like I'm the only person that likes playing in the dark. I play on veteran, preferably in the evenings, and I'm damn near invisible.

    character data not saving

I had an issue today that is likely related to this server syncing bug or whatever you wanna call it. I logged in for the first time in a day and a half, so naturally I was starving and dehydrated. I was also in the sea, not where I left myself at Sosnovka. I ate, I drank, then, without moving for fear of losing my precious M16 w/ 7 mags, my alice pack, my hunting knife, matches, etc, I logged out and attempted to log back in with the hope that it would randomly throw me into a spawn point on land. It didn't, I was back in the sea, only I was desperately starving and dehydrated again, but without the food and drink in my inventory that I'd used to remedy that situation previously. So it saved my inventory loss, but not my fixing my hunger/thirst. As a result of this, I died within minutes and lost all my prized gear, and a 6+ hour streak. This was all on RU1, I believe, and I was still using 1.5.6 (so was that server, allegedly).

    Official disconnect thread

I think this dc'ing issue is too uncontrollable for all parties involved to be something that should be punished... What if you're on your way out of the game anyway and hear gunshots, but don't know if the shooter knows you're there or is even aiming at you, and you use that as an excuse to log out 30 seconds earlier than you otherwise would? I ask, because that happened to me the other day. The bullet sounded a fair ways off, but for all I know it could've been someone scoped on me with a sniper rifle. Was I in the wrong? My IRL ass was getting too sweaty to keep going, and my comrades had logged out 2 minutes previous, I wasn't sticking around anyway. Should I have stayed to see if someone was looking for a fight? I don't think so... It's almost like the ol' "when does life start" argument, only it's "when does life end". Is it when the shooter engages his target, when the first bullet leaves the barrel, when the last bullet hits the target, or when the victim finally bleeds out? It's all too ambiguous, and I think needs an eloquent and simple solution that's reasonably fair to all parties. I don't know what that solution is. I suppose roskelld's 20 second dc timer suggestion is probably the most reasonable option put forth so far, but it'll still allow some dc'ers to slip through, and some innocents to wind up getting smacked by the door on their way out.
