  1. Is anybody able to get this working? I'm stuck on the 'You are dead' screen, with the respawn button apparently still broken.

    Blood Type & Testing

IRL, I have no idea what mine is, and I know a lot of things.

    If your going to KOS....

This. Given how well the sound engine currently seems to work, I wouldn't put much faith in a 'proximity gunshot detector'. (edit: I don't mean to suggest that such a system would be based on sound, only that it would almost certainly be buggy and unreliable) Any unsafe logout should cause you to persist in the world for *at least* 5 minutes, to give the people you're engaged with a good chance to cautiously approach your last known position. A safe logout would circumvent that, and require something like a 1 minute setup of a sleeping bag. This is something that should not be possible indoors. Additionally, I'd add that if someone logged out indoors, taking a chance on the 5 minute timer, they should be teleported a half a km or more away upon logging back in. This *should* solve combat logging, ghosting, and do a great deal to help with server hopping, unless I'm missing something.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

I should probably clarify my position on this... mostly I play lone wolf, and in such instances, yeah, I'd keep my mic on and I'd talk to people in-game, as I do now. But when I *am* playing with my squad/friends? Communication with them would be a much higher priority than communication with randoms. Come to think of it, the only times I've used the in-game comms at the same time as playing with a group of friends are when I've said "hi" to random other fresh spawns as I run past them on my way to rejoining my pals. Which I guess is pretty friendly, but yeah, I'd give that up for proper squad communication. When I'm grouped up with my friends and we collectively come across other survivors? We don't talk to them. We either stay unseen and let them be on their way, if they don't look threatening, or we try to send them back to the coast. So yeah, unfriendly. Or indifferent at best. My point, however, is that you can't actually force it. TS *will* be used. There is no technology on this planet that can 'solve' the TS 'problem'.

How Not To Surrender - Short Video

In that situation, the proper thing to do is double tap 'w' and sprint away in a somewhat random serpentine pattern. You'd have probably survived. If I were your attacker, I wouldn't have considered your going prone as an act of submission. I'd have thought you were trying to reduce your profile and line me up for a shot.

DayZ Combat Loggers (Caught) - Discussion On Combat Logging

Meant to quote you but I gave you beans. So have some beans! Also, don't forget ghosting. Ghosting is getting to be far too prevalent, and while it hasn't happened to me, it's annoying to watch it happen in streams and youtube vids. The solution will have to be a log out timer of some sort, but it's going to need to be longer than 15 seconds. If you're playing at all smart, it'll take longer than that to flank or approach the position of the suspected combat logger. The timer should be more like 5 minutes, to allow for a safe and careful approach of the targets last known position. Admittedly, 5 minutes is quite long, and so should perhaps be accompanied by a safe logout method of some sort, the campfire/sleeping bag type thing that's often suggested. And if you log out in a building, you should be randomly teleported 300-2500 meters upon logging back in.

The most common 'cheat' used in DayZ...

Still won't work. I'd just unplug my mic from my tower, and plug it into my laptop. Or use my phone. There is no way at all to prevent people from using TS, even if that did for some reason seem like a good idea. (it doesn't.)

We NEED some way to identify heros and bandits.

I don't KOS, I've played for 40+ hours on the SA and several hundred of the mod. Never been a bandit, never been a bullet sponge. I've got a total of 2 or 3 kills to my name, and been murdered by other players a similar number of times. More than 90% of my deaths have been self-inflicted or caused by bugs. Generally I survive weeks at a time, and I've met (and not even been shot by!) many new friends in game. You know why? I'll tell you why. It's because I play smart. If you were smart, you wouldn't be championing a system that dumbs down the game and takes away the one difficult decision that DayZ ever presents to you. You should try Counterstrike. The terr'ists are all nicely labelled for you there, I think you'd like it. Then you can leave us alone.

    Reaction On Dying

Last time I died, I said "i'm dead" with the same sort of chipper, upward inflection that a waitress would use to wish you a good day. There may have been a bit of surprise in my voice too. I'm about 90% sure I desync'd and shot myself that time. It's hard to get mad when you don't even know what happened, I guess. I was more annoyed watching my friend die the day before, someone ran up, shot him with a magnum, and ran off before I knew what'd happened. I was feet away, with an M4, and if I'd been on the ball that hit and run wouldn't have happened. So that stings, but more than losing any of my own characters ever has.
  10. This is correct, but does not answer the question even slightly. Did you read the post? I don't know what's going on with this, but I've noticed it too. No idea. When it happens, I just leave and look for another server. I've also noticed one or two that seem to load fresh spawns every time, as though they aren't even connected to the hive.

    Should DayZ have music? (Poll)

Well, music wouldn't be free, so why should they spend money/dev time on something most of us will turn off anyway?

    Imposed difficulty

Props for that, and for making it so any bandits who take you down aren't going to get much from you. As for me, I play first person only no matter what server I'm on. Lately I've decided not to wear military clothing, as that's the uniform of a bandit and screams 'shoot me' even to the friendlies. I won't wear the chest holster for the same reason. Also only drink from water pumps for the moment, trying to form good habits for when the infection stuff does get implemented.

    Invincible Server Admins

I have not experienced this at all, but if it is indeed happening, then that is just an inexcusably shitty thing to do. Why do such people even bother playing games? I thought us gamers liked to challenge ourselves, if they just want nonstop gratification, then why don't they just spend all their free time wanking it instead? Very perplexing.

    Post Patch thoughts - i work 9 / 5 shifts.

Well, if you do ever decide to join the men, you can turn your FOV way down during the pitch black night, and the circle of light made by your torch will take up far more of your screen.

    New Dayz themed PC case

I thought this topic was about the case, and the art upon it, not it's internals? At least, that's what I got out of it. But feel free to shit on everything you see if it makes you feel better. That is a sick case, btw.

Weirdest player loot you have found

I haven't found any weird loot on anyone yet, but I have carried some... Back in the mod days, there were a few times where I'd collect empty cans and bottles. I had another character whose backpack I managed to fill with morphine. Realistically, that's probably not a bad idea in an end-of-the-world situation.

    Weird Death?

Who knows man, I had a weird one the other day too. In the middle of some deep woods quite far north, crouched in a pine tree and in my inventory sorting things, in the pitch black moonless night, on a first person hardcore server with only 2 other players on it, and suddenly I hear what sounds like an axe hit to the chest, and I'm bleeding. There was no sound of a zombie anywhere, and there's almost zero chance another player would've happened across me, let alone seen me inside a pine tree in pitch black in first person. edited to add: I definitely took damage from something, as my chest rig and jacket went from pristine to either badly damaged or ruined. (I don't remember specifically what they're final state was, I just noted that I'd needed to replace them)

Speaking for myself, less vaseline and bread crumbs.

    ULTIMATE hero hunting squad

I think you should call this the "ultimate bandit hunting squad hunting squad".
  21. I recall hearing somewhere that they intend to eventually add some sort of rifle bags that you can use to carry a second long gun around in. Given that, I'd say that carrying a hatchet instead of a full sized axe should still free up your melee slot, if you want it to, but shouldn't allow you to carry another gun. Ideally, the hatchet would merely serve as a more inventory-friendly way to collect wood, for those that currently keep their axe in their bag for camo reasons. It should also be a particularly weeny weapon, like the hammer, but maybe a tiny bit more damage. 3 or 4 hits to kill a zed with a hatchet seems pretty reasonable.
  22. That man is wasting his Harvard education. On topic, soldier shouldn't really be listed above farmer, either, unless we plan to feed mainly on our fallen enemies. Not sure why everyone thinks the world will be so violent after civilization collapses. I'm just going to live in my backyard. I'll drink rainwater, I'll find a bow and arrow and use that to collect deer if I decide I can't live without meat. Pacific northwest and it's abundant, untapped natural resources for the win.

I like story time, have some beans. (and since I'm the pedantic sort, it's "scenic") :P

"Once upon a night in Pavlovo..."

These incredibly tense moments are what make nighttime (with the correct gamma settings) so fantastic for me. Zombies aren't scary on sunny afternoons, this is how the game should be played.

Lost everything after getting scared off heavy breathing

It's got to be at least a *slightly* more embarrassing thing to admit to, though. 7 double mags for his pristine M4, and a 'full layout' that presumably includes some TTsKo and a helmet, and he's scared of some breathing? Bambiest of bambis found himself some nice duds, and is now scared to play the game. He should feel manly.
