Just less ammo available in the game will be a great deal. 1-2 clips per players would be a fair amount. It will make sniper rifles only valuable for bandit, the number of bullets are not worth the pain to carry the rifle and the trouble to find ammo. But if we make guns rarer, we'll need more close combat common weapon, crossbow, bow are common weapons. Bows is fairly easy to make as its arrows. Make players more depenent of what they see that what the game give them for free. At the moment, it's like a broken bending machine that never stop to give you things... -

I thought about my last 2 characters. I got AKM, a gun with plenty of ammo... Not worried about food nor drink. Exploring the land with a map... Trying to get better gears. And there's one thing. Why is there anything more to do ? I mean... I know it's just alpha, but... it seems it lacks content and even I is reflecting on going in Elektro to fight other players just to break this emptiness feeling in the game after some gear level aquired. Infecteds are no threat, i run everywhere to get what i want, without reflecting on how to do it, just run with your hatchet/gun to get what you want. It will probably attract some players that are looking for a murder. So yes : 1) To easy to get middle/highi gears 2) Infected are no threat at all 3) We lack of things to do... So we just go "naturaly" to PvP since it's the only way to enjoy the "middle-end game". With a friend or two, it's a bit different because you need more stuff to get but the problem is the same at the end. The hard part will be to wait better content, in-game event added in the future, harder Infected or what ever has rocket in his mind. -
Do we have any weapon against flying choppers ? Or any vehicle ? Rocket launcher ? mortar ? Bazooka ? Mines ? Then i think AS50 and the other very long range sniper rifle were introduced as weapons to shoot down flying choppers and other vehicules. That's just a side effect as in real life that this sniper rifle is used against smaller target... Even if i hate snipers in this game :D

Smell has no need and will put a burden unnecessary as ear and eyes have a realistic range longer than our smell. You'll need a new thing to trigger the smell sense of infected and this thing, you'll want it to appear on the GUI. You'll need some way to influence this things. The last but not the least, infected are rotting gradualy, so their smell will have no use because they will stink harder than you'll do.

No one here want so set FF=off. What we want here, is to give more social life into the game without any system involving nerf or restriction or what ever you call it... So the way we try to do it, is by incentive with harsher world. You want to kill everyone on sight ? Good to you :) With the actual game mechanics it's possible without worrying about ammo or weapons. So, imagine you'll travel the wasteland mainly with hatchet, crowbar, a marakov and 1 perhaps 2 clips if very lucky. Starving to death, a guy show up with only a crowbar. Do you still will kill him on sight without knowing if he has food on him ? With the threat of infected nearby harder to fool around ? That's the questions we would like that pop up on every guy playing the game and dealing with other guys. -

I assume... You looked a website with an uploaded map of the game. With loot location. Videos on how to trick zombies. Join a party after 3 death by bandits. You just want to win :) Well, i dont want to win, because there's no way to win in this mod. You may survive infected, players, but you win nothing at all at any time. That's where there's something wrong... If you cant win, any way you play the game, then why you keep killing players ? Perhaps you think you win with the best gears ? The most murders ? The most infected kills ? You're bored ? No, that's just goal you put on your game style. When i ear or see a player, i hide, observe and wait. I run away if the guy seems dangerous, ignore him if no threat. If i see intent to kill in his behaviour and I can't avoid a fight, i'll try to kill him first ( not handy when you're facing snipers ). But if you're bored, there's other games with dedicated PvP systems. Yes, it needs a lot more skill than in DayZ to enjoy the game. Quake, UT need you to aim very fast. Counter strike need a hell of accuracy. You need to learn the most effective and quickest way to kill on each map and every key location ( at least ) of the map and memorise how every weapon works in every combat style. DayZ has nothing with that and that make frags easier. I'm looking the stats at the main page... It's strange that what... 100k bandits alive are annoying 400-500k other alive players. I see 15m survival attemps and 2m murders. We'll round it at 15% of survival attemps.. So Even if it looks like nothing, if we remove respawns made by players to spawn where they want, miss click, update mess... These 15% will grow of effective survival attemps... Perhaps to 20-25% and even more wont be surprising. So i have one game on five ended by a players with no reason than boredom ? That's where there's something wrong... I know not all "bandits" are this way, but i have no way to think otherwise... I dont have been killed with warnings yet or given the opportunity to surrender. -
You're new to this world and when you'll figure out how it works, where to go, you wont have any trouble to have the minimal long time surviving gears. Next problem will be other players. I suggest you dont look videos or websites for learning things ( some points are not easy to get like tent pitching, so i looked a video how to do it ), it feels great to discover things himself. You'll see after some times that guns and basic rifles are way too easy to get regarding the background story. There's some suggestion/debat about this fact. Other things are already on dev hands and they work on it.

I didnt read everything, but ( and some guys will probably be surprised ) i'm not interested in a purely PvE system. Infected are too easy to fool, and PvE servers without a separate network, DB, will screw up the current PvP system which is already a nightmare when 95% ( based on my experience so perhaps a bit more or a bit less ) of encounter is kill or be killed. Perhaps giving admin tools like i saw with counter-strike ( other FPS i played were UT2004 and UT3 where camping is sure death) to limit freekill camping, loot farming or other action that abuse the game rules... That way, you'll have pure servers, server with camping limitation, loot farming autokick... This kind of admin tools. Dont know if it exists ( i dont read about managing or owning a server ) so perhaps this is just something that admin can turn on without knowing it...

Solution to all of your DayZ problems? MAKE FRIENDS
Gunnm replied to MalleusX's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Read carefully what i wrote, i dont want to turn off friendly fire. But making the decision of killing an other player have more weigth as it has now. PvP has not been added in the game because players became bored at some point, it's part of rocket's game in his mind. I'd like more friendly encounter than being shot down without warning. Even a ratio of 20/80 would be good. Curently, i just wait that servers i play often got less people to avoid any frustrating encounter... -
Solution to all of your DayZ problems? MAKE FRIENDS
Gunnm replied to MalleusX's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
The problem is, how to make in-game friend as all the guys i croos shoot at sight... No warning, and even if you run with your hatchet, they just pursue and kill you in the back. The problem is players mentality who prefere to shoot at players ( CoD multiplayer like game with some "living" environement ) instead of infected. Lot of players are working on ideas how to face this issue without hurting too much PvP. I'm just sick of guy camping loot location just to kill other players, in other word, increase frags counter. That's not how the game should be. Yesterday, i went NE saw a military control tower, i took a look and then what ? 6-8 guys with sniper rifles shooting everything without warning shot. Today, a guy in a facility tower covered buy an other sniper. And i had just my hatchet, some tools and food-drink. Not worth killing for the stuff. The other problem, is how a new player will stay in the game if he cant find in-game friend and is being shot down as he has juste found his hatchet if he's lucky ? Do you think that asking his friends to join him is gonna work for every player ? I'm not playing alone by choice. And for your information, not interested in guild or anything like this. I'd prefere teaming up with any random guy, shoot infected at my heart content with the friend of the day. And it is not possible the way players actualy play the game. -

If i summarise ideas so far that are good in my opinions. 1) Food and drink harder to get 2) Ammo scarcer, military weapons very rare weapons 3) No more score ( but i like to see how much infected i killed ^^ since i dont kill players most of my time ) 4) Less slots 5) Harder infected For 1) i'll add this : easier to refill a bottle, but 50-75% death by dehydratation if not purified with pills who are available by pack of 8 pills in military medic supply. Point 4: For secondary weapon. 1 bandage + 4 clips For the main bag 3 drink +1 food + 3 rifle clips For tool, 4 slots seems good and realistic i have 4 pockets on py regular pants. For 5) Infected currently ( 1.7.2.3 ) are way too fast, a bit too deaf . I'd like to see them with better earing and lower speed ( about -20% seems good ) the eyesight seems good actualy. Some exhaustion penalty for running too long. Actualy it just shakes a little the aim and you dont stop running. Penalties : Cant run, Lower speed in prone and crouch, less shake but poorer aim going up and down widely. -
Crowbar = Hatchet? (double item in 1 slot)
Gunnm replied to sephyrroth's topic in DayZ Mod Troubleshooting
1)I picked a crowbar, when i saw the bug that it overlap in inventory, tried to drop it. 2)Hatchet first droped. 3)Then tried to drop the crowbar and take back the hatchet. 4) The crowbar droped in mid-air. -
Who else bought ArmA 2 + OP Arrowhead just for DayZ ?
Gunnm replied to Bitey's topic in New Player Discussion
I bought the game just for Dayz and is not interested at all by ArmA 2 at the moment... For the one that said something about the commands, i played conflict:Freespace ( in other countries, know as Descent: Freespace ), and Arma2 has perhaps only half maybe a third of the command list of Freespace ! Not something that will scare me or anything :) Just looking through it is enough to see what you'll need at the start, when i'll need more advanced commands, i'll look more carefully.
