What kind of landscape would you like to see in a DayZ stand alone game?
osirish replied to scouski's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The current map .... Expanded to include the off-map areas, and populated with new towns, maybe a river or two, bridges etc. which would basically double the current playable area. As optimisation is getting better, server slots are increasing, we are out-growing the current play area. Being dumped in a map where you don't speak the language increased the immersion, the sense of loneliness, and the feeling of something completely new. Seasonal effects added. Cold and snow in winter, and yes, the sun can shine in winter too. Snow storms where visibility is reduced to a few meters. Torrential rain where the same happens. Both which would tie in to the body temperature mechanic. -

TheMachine's Daily hacking Brief
osirish replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Posted this on our forums earlier .... It is bloody disheartening when you type in a search word in Google and it comes up with the most frequent searches in the auto-complete section. Just "DayZ hacki" will autocomplete the most popular searches .... forum, guide, scripts. :( -
Thanks, I did try to qualify some of the statements to ensure there wasn't a misunderstanding. If anyone were to take these seriously, I'd be disappointed. I might have to add a disclaimer at the top! I could have done the same for other countries I've lived in, but people wouldn't relate as well to Chernarus vs Korea for example. Sorry again if I offended, it wasn't the intent.

Thank you .... it is meant to be. One of the qualities of being Irish is the ability to make fun of yourself. Wasn't expecting so many quick responses from those without a sense of humor, or heaven forbid, offend anyone.

Biggest/best camp you've found so far?
osirish replied to mind_grenade's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been involved in building big camps. I've been involved in raiding camps too. If you think that's a big haul, there are ones out there a lot lot bigger. I've had three large camps I was involved in building raided simultaneously, and all our vehicles found/stolen/destroyed, by just 2 players in the space of 2 hours. With the current state of the alpha, camps are just like your personal equipment. Don't get attached. Fun to build and stock, but in the long run, they'll be discovered, destroyed, or bugged to death. Same with vehicles. Yesterday, I did a little exploring and discovered 3 small camps in just a few hours. Obviously the personal stashes of small groups of players, maybe no more than 2 or 3 strong. Rather than raiding or destroying, I used them to restock, taking nothing that would indicate that they had been found. I'll be using them for restocking when fresh respawning on the coast from now on ... or at least until I am discovered, or someone else finds and destroys them. I prefer being a ninja to being a bulldozer. -
The two files that are validated are probably the Battleye files. They are older Battleye files in the steam client, and so you may have problems connecting until Battleye self-updates or you manually update.
-
The guys do manual restarts when they are on and see it needs it. They don't do automatic ones as it can annoy players. They also usually wait until the server population is fairly low. The problem occurs when none of them have been on for a couple of days, or assume someone else has done one.

US330 Hacker teleporting all players/killing them
osirish replied to theboat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Thanks, had a look. Unfortunately, I didn't recognise most of the names, which is unfortunate as the server is usually 50% full with people I know, so it is possible there may have been one or more. I did find the name "Daniel" interesting as I've read a lot of other posts today about a "Daniel" teleport cheating on other servers. Maybe the same guy. The admin has viewed this post but the current TOS won't allow him to ban players. -
US330 Hacker teleporting all players/killing them

That would be helpful, thx. We have a large number of TS players and know most of the regs. It would help to narrow down the suspects. -
US330 Hacker teleporting all players/killing them
osirish replied to theboat's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Sorry to hear that chaps. Glad I wasn't on. Was wondering when one of these losers was going to hit the server. It was only a matter of time and we had a good run. :( All I can do is let the admins know. Thx for the report. -
I have nothing to contribute to this thread, so I'll just stay quiet.

US750 Kicking Players without cause
osirish replied to dark6-6's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Yep, last vid posted kind of makes the rest of this topic invalid. No defending the indefensible. Or as Bronn puts it in Game of Thrones .... "There's no cure for being a c^^t." -
Good job with the vid. Absolute 100% proof of admin abuse. Racism. Admin abuse. Being a douchbag. Please don't stop at server blacklist, please ban player account too.

.... where in the cheat report guidelines does it say that a video is mandatory evidence being being allowed to report a cheater? If you had nothing constructive to add, why did you even post?

US750 Kicking Players without cause
osirish replied to dark6-6's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
There are so many posts about abusive admins playing the game for their own benefit, but this is one of the first times that I actually feel the admin has a point. If a clan are paying for a server and are swamped by a larger clan moving in to dominate and take advantage, like it seems here, I can actually agree that this can be justified. Not the chain kicking or carebear crap, but if a clan has over 20 people, I'm asking myself, why the hell don't they just get their own server? Have you tried opening up a discussion with them and asking them to leave for a more populated server with more slots? Before anyone else jumps in and starts qouting server terms of service, look at this objectively and as if you were renting a 40 slot server where another clan moved in and used up more than 50% of the available slots every day. -
100% of people I've engaged D/C

and when people try to log out fast to save their characters when a hacker is reported on the server .... will they die regardless, due to the alt+f4 timeout measure? -
And sharing it with everyone on the forum will help?

Personal Achievement List. (Check as appropriate) Have you .... Scared someone into logging off, using only direct communication. Committed an axe or crowbar murder. Stalked a fully equiped player. Stolen a weapon out of their backpack, and killed them with it. Bandaged or given a blood transfusion to a complete stranger. Donated one of your weapons to an unarmed survivor. Found a vehicle and repaired it. Played at night. Found a boat and visited the islands. Explored the map and visited every marked location or point of interest. Raided a camp. Set up your own camp. Died from a bug. Stolen a vehicle. Watched a DayZ live stream. Found and looted a crashed helicopter. Spotted survivors running in the woods, and instead of killing them, stalk them all the way back to their camp. Lost a weapon by placing it on the ground or into your backpack. Joined a community or played in a squad. Robbed someone at gun point and only taken their flashlight. Lost your gear in a swimming accident. Found a can of Mountain Dew. Killed an unarmed survivor for their beans. Learned to use waypoints. Broken your legs by crawling under a tree, in a doorway, or from a supermarket shelf. Fired a Lee Enfield in the center of Cherno (ground level) and survived. Been killed by a survivor you tried to help. Helped a stranger by killing the Zeds chasing them. Hunted bandit snipers in the hills above Cherno and Electro. Caught a cold. Passed that cold to a team mate. Subscribed to a DayZ vid creater on Youtube. Given someone your beans on the DayZ forums.

Let your body temperature drop to 30 degrees and it starts to flash .... very easy to do at night or on a boat. You'll start to cough. Heat pack or light a fire and sit near it to increase your temp again. If you let it drop even further, or don't take immediate action when you first start coughing, you'll start coughing continously (you have a cold). Only cure is anti-biotics from a rare hospital drop. Hang around friends while you are coughing and they can catch it too. :) I've never tried agroing zombies with it, but it puts an end to camping a spot or stalking other players.

No, not talking about implementing this in-game. This is a personal achievement list .... basically forum fodder. Just interested in how many of these people have managed to do.

Please excuse the wall of text. We all know how frustrating Alt+F4 is. We only have to look around the forums to see how it is a hot topic in almost every area. Only yesterday, I was wandering through the woods on a regular scouting mission and was near one of my tents that I no longer needed. It had some mid-tier weapons and supplies and as I'm rarely in this area any more, I don't use it. I made my way down to the coast and spotted an unarmed survivor making his way from the coast up to treeline. I stood up in an open area and saluted. My intention was to lead him to the tent and give it to him for his own regular use. He spotted me and immediately Alt+F4'd. Your loss buddy. That Alt+F4 is a problem is not in debate. Cheaters seem to be the other hot topic at the moment. It has become rife. I'm not going to give them the honor of calling them hackers, they aren't, they are cheaters. Every day, more and more cheat reports are being generated. More and more cheats are being discovered, and more and more admins are coming under pressure from both the cheaters and their regular player base to do something about it. I know it is an Alpha. I know there are bugs, some gamebreaking. I knew that cheaters would be a problem, especially as the mod became more popular. (over 700,000 unique players now! woot!) I was thinking about how many times I've Alt+F4'd in the game since it started. At the beginning, I died, .... a lot, until I discovered that Alt+F4 despawned Zeds. I died less. Then I discovered how not to agro and pretty much stopped ALT+F4ing altogether. I discovered other players. Some good, some not so good. I haven't killed another player in a month. I don't go out of my way to find pvp. I have access to sniper rifles (all of them!) but have never used them. I carry an assault rifle. I have taken shots at players who were stealing from me, wounded a few, and have been in a few firefights where I had no choice or have felt threatened. I've wounded many. I've been prone for countless hours when I have spotted a movement, or waiting for another player to make a wrong move, but usually, in the end, they have ALT+F4'd. I've died to cheaters a few times. (Certainly less than I've died to bugs.) But more and more servers are being hit and crippled by them. I sense the frustration of the admins on the server I play on, where they are following the guidelines to the letter. They haven't banned a single player yet, even when we know they are cheating or have been killed by their godmode, teleporting, esp, vehicle spawning, downloaded skills. They can only ban due to racism or malicious comments. As only direct chat is enabled on veteran servers, even these powers are pretty useless. There are good admins and there are bad admins, and thankfully, it is not my responsibility to resolve these issues. Only a couple of days ago, every one of our stashes and every one of our vehicles was raided, stolen, or destroyed, by a two man team in less than 2 hours. One of them was killed and the other Alt+F4'd during one of the raids, and yet they were both raiding another camp in another part of the map within minutes.Detective work showed they have prior bans from other games in their history, but they weren't banned from DayZ. An admin was in-game at the time, but his hands were tied and he couldn't do anything. The only saving grace with these two, is that they didn't nuke the server, or attempt to use their powers for killing other players. TL:DR The last time I ALT+F4'd was when a cheater was on the server killing people. If Alt+F4 is "fixed" and can prevent fast logouts with no consequences, as much as I hate saying it, no legitimate player is safe. It will lead to more and more griefing by cheaters, and more and more discontent amongst every one else. Either admin powers need to be expanded, or whatever Alt+F4 solution is being developed needs to take into account that there is a growing reason why players need a way to fast exit a game.

If dogs become in game pets and need to be fed and given water or they would die (despawn). If dogs could be used as npc's to protect or provide early warning to camps. If dogs can cause zombie agro if you are not careful. If dogs can be given the "Stay" command. If dogs can be given friend recognisability options. If dogs can locate and direct to nearby food sources/animals I'm with it. If dogs can track (scent trails) enemy players. If dogs can be used to immobilise enemy players. If dogs can be used to draw zombie agro away from an area so the player can enter. If dogs can be used to locate enemy players prone or hiding. .... not so sure about. a little over powered.

what exactly is end game in dayz?
osirish replied to Justin619's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
No end game? DayZ bucket list. Have you found a vehicle and repaired it .... then gone joy riding? Have you tried playing at night? Have you found a boat, then popped out to the islands to see what's there? Have you explored the map and visited all the points of interest? Have you discovered and raided a camp in the middle of nowhere? Have you set up your own camp? Have you stolen a vehicle? Have you found and looted a crashed helicopter? Have you spotted survivors running in the woods, and instead of killing them, stalked them all the way back to their camp? Have you tried joining a community and playing in a squad? Have you robbed someone at gun point and only taken their flashlight? Have you died and lost your "amazing" gear and started again?
