(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
osirish replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Only a tiny fraction of the player base are registered on the forums. Only a tiny fraction of the players registered on the forums are posting in threads complaining about the issue. People usually post when they have problems, the majority never post because they are happy, or accept the change. This issue only seems to be affecting people who jump from server to server, for whatever reason, and are asking for it to be fixed. Players who usually play on one server are not affected. Making claims like 95% of the player base are against this, or everyone is against this, is ignorant. Don't get attached to your gear. Saying you won't play because you might lose your gear is beyond my comprehension. Players get sniped on the coast all the time, the difference if you have gear is that you are able to fight back for once. Login problems and stuck on loading screen are due to the fact that "you" or the server do not have the most up to date versions. If you use six launcher, you will have this problem. Six launcher does not update to 1.7.2.5. Use DayZ commander to check your versions (top right corner). Play on server(s) with the same version as you. Period. The sky is not falling. We don't know if this is a feature or a bug. If it is a feature, then rather than discarding it, improve it. Increase the number of coastal spawns all the way up to Berezino. It's on the coast and it is just as probable that you could get washed ashore there as anywhere else. More potential spawns and the less likely to get killed on the coast. At least until we know if this is intended or not. -
easiest way i found was doing it through dayz commander.

(Rocket) Why are we logging in on the coast
osirish replied to Siggy (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Where I can certainly see the frustration of a lot of posters here ... there are some positives. Connection issues 1. Everyone started on the coast ... updating to 1.7.2.5 and joining a server running the same version did that. 2. Everyone not updated to 1.7.2.5 is going to have login problems to servers running that version. 3. Six launcher does not update to 1.7.2.5, DayZ Commander does. Make sure you have to the right version as the server you are trying to join. Negatives to the feature (if it is a feature) Almost everything written above in the thread. Positives to the feature 1. No more players server hopping for loot. 2. (A by-product of number 1) ... less buildings barbed wire barricaded by those same loot hoppers. 3. No more players server hopping from building to building and mountain to mountain just to snipe people and grow their murder count. 4. No more ALT+F4gs leaving the server if they are shot at to join another server with complete immunity. 5. No more players ALT+F4ing to bandage and heal on another server before rejoining the fight. 6. No more ghosting in a firefight for unfair advantage. 7. Encourages people to find nice, well managed servers, to join and stick with and therefore less admin abuse problems. 8. Encourages people to become regulars on a server and maybe actually get to know the community(s) there. Less pew pew when you know some of the players on the server from regular interaction with them, as opposed to shooting everyone just because you don't know or trust them. On the other hand, you can still pew pew if you want. 9. It stops players from ghosting in from other servers on raids and bypassing barriers and defences. (When the standalone comes, and players are able to build bases and underground bunkers etc. What is the point if other players can just materialise inside your santuary from another server?) 10. It helps to stop stream sniping for those that live stream. All of these things have numerous threads, day, after day, after day, complaining about them. Now they have been largely resolved. Maybe they will be replaced with other types of complaint threads, who knows? Yes ... there are going to be problems with dicks sniping new spawns on the coast, but they do this in the towns anyway. It won't be an issue if you are able to find and stick to a server that you like. If the mod had had this "feature" from the start, there wouldn't have been any complaints, but the way the change was introduced, (again, if it is a feature and not a bug), it feels like something was taken away. It is a change, and people hate change, especially if it impacts how they play the mod. I get the negatives, but few are mentioning the positives. I'm interested to see if player numbers drop because of the change, or if they remain static/increase once all the servers have updated. -
Sick of hackers? Then stop whining and help fight back.
osirish replied to dontgetmadgeteven's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
If a cheat site is charging for their hacks ... they aren't paying taxes. To pay taxes, they would have to be a registered company, and being a registered company would leave them open to legal action. If you want to hurt cheat sites, report them to the tax and revenue services of whatever country they are being hosted in. -
Killed while stalking my first player. Got to about 20m behind him, rolled under a pine tree, crawled one space forward on the unsuspecting victim, then crack, broken leg, shock and the "you are dead" screen. I've always wanted to know what that player's reaction was when he heard me die just behind him.

4. Your server must not be password protected or locked. BEC connection flood #lock is allowed but must be set to no more then five minutes. Servers may also be locked briefly before scheduled restarts, again, this may not exceed five minutes.

OP ED: Picking Female Skin Pros and Cons
osirish replied to NukeLord's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I'm kinda interested in a comment I heard in a live stream ..... Do female characters run 5% slower than male characters? -
no Berezino?

You don't simply "obtain" Mountain Dew, Mountain Dew lets itself be found when the time is right. If you see a can of this stuff, let one of your friends pick it up.

When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!

Random animals are there, yes. But there is nothing else, no trees, buildings, or features, just hills and valleys. -

osirish replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
sync, you are obviously trolling now. 2 attacks and not a single constructive point. Who am I? I am a player and my thoughts, suggestions, and opinions are as "valid" as anyone else's. I disagreed with the OP, and I said why. You disagree with me and, well that's about it, bar the hostility. What makes me think you know what the mod is supposed to be all about? I haven't said I did. My statements are based on the interviews that Rocket has given, and the opinions that Dev's have posted in the past. The use of the off-map area for vehicle movement and tactical advantage was actually a Dev's comment in the patch notes that discussed the off-map tent wipe and the 6 hour vehicle respawn timer. Read the "What Rocket said" thread and maybe you'll actually learn where I am coming from regarding the difficulty level, balance, and fairness of the mod. Regardless, no doubt you'll decide to attack again, so I'll just leave this here .... you have 219 posts and 21 tins of beans. Not a lot of love there. -
Can you get a wood pile from a tree.

I did not know that ... I always walked up to a tree like a dog wanting to mark it's territory. -

osirish replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
+1 for exaggeration. I do not have a vehicle at the moment. I am saying that the offmap area has become a valid place. I am saying that if players want to find vehicles, it is possible to find them there. Difficult, yes, impossible, no. I am saying that this mod is supposed to be unfair, and it is supposed to be hard. I am saying that a 6 hour wipe was supposed to be in place and isn't working at the moment. I am saying that if I wanted a vehicle, I could find one, I would just have to work a little harder. Perhaps what I didn't say, was that 1st world problems like these probably won't be an issue in the stand alone game. But whatever, ... worst post you've ever seen? Good luck with that. -
Packs of Wolves? Just throwin this out there...
osirish replied to Theplanbpill's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Packs of wild dogs ... but very rare .... I can get with that. Bears ..... equally rare ..... I can get with that. Wild boars .... already in game .... being hostile .... I can get with that. However, bugged out animals ... where the boars, sheep, cows, goats, chickens, and bunny rabbits attack ..... not cool. -
When are you really gonna to stop OFF-MAP vehicle hoarders!!
osirish replied to BossFi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The fix was supposed to be, vehicles in the offmap area get removed if not used for 6 hours, which I originally agreed with. Having said that, having gained some experience, I don't understand why there's a problem with using the off-map area. The in-map area has gotten too small and too predicable. We used to have a few vehicles, we actually managed to hang on to them for a few weeks, and we used them, lost them, crashed them, and then we went to repair and get them back. The early days were bliss. For the last month however, with the influx of skiddies, and since that plant/tree thingy went public, we are lucky to have a vehicle for a day, maybe even hours. The time it takes to find and repair one is usually longer than the time we manage to keep it, regardless of how well hidden it is. Since I've become more experienced at the game and learned the map, I've come to the opinion that the off-map area is a valid area. In the early days, I considered it cheap to use it, and would have made comments like the OP. Now, "in-game" map area can be grid searched in a day or two. I do it regularly. I view it as a wasteland. It is not as if it is secret, or that no one else can go there. All people need to do is gear up for it. This game is supposed to be as realistic as possible. It is supposed to be hard. It is supposed to be unfair and unforgiving. Should people be penalised just because care-bears want an easier time of things? The off-map area is only "off"-map area because the original designer didn't populate it, but it is still part of the map. The in-game map shows the off-map area if you want to scroll a bit. It doesn't have proper coord's for it, so I give that point to the care-bears. I don't like hoarders, but honestly, what is a hoarder? If you belong to a large 30+ group, them having 4-5 vehicles is not hoarding. A hoarder would be a small group of 3-4, keeping 5+ vehicles ... but it is still NOT hoarding if the vehicles are being used regularly and if players are using vehicles, they can be stolen, destroyed, and most importantly, found. Using the offmap area also opens up tactical possibilities. Using it to move from one location to another to avoid being seen, and preparing a raid on the border before heading inland to hit someone's camp, is also fair. If players go looking for vehicles, they CAN be found. I don't think people should cry because other players are making it harder for you. We get enough posts about nerfing and removing things. -
First trip to Green Mountain. Found and drank a can of Mountain Dew on the way. I didn't know it at the time, but I was damned twice. Made it in, witnessed what needed to be witnessed, and was leaving through the gate, across the road and into the trees ..... when I died. Never heard a shot. Second trip to Green Mountain. 3 of us found and were repairing the jeep. There were only 5 people on the server. Encountered my first invisible, teleporting, script kiddie. All 3 of us died. Another friend was near Green Mountain ... spotted a chopper flying around the radio tower, it lost control for no visible reason and flew straight into the tower. 2 players died. Not a nice place.

Drink up friends! plenty of tears for everyone!
osirish replied to redfield-77's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
If people cheat and get VAC banned in the source engine, they are banned from any game/mod that uses that engine, and has VAC enabled. If people cheat and get BE banned in the Arma2 engine, they are banned from any game/mod that uses that engine, and has BE enabled. The best analogy I read, can't remember the thread, is that if you go into a restaurant and poop on a table, you get banned from the restaurant. There's no argument or debate that you should just be banned from using that particular table any more. -
