Why Punish People for a Certain Playstyle?
osirish replied to bazbake's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I have nothing to contribute to this thread, so I won't say anything. -
I know this is the wrong place, but can anyone help me?
osirish replied to Chewbacca Jesus's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Read this thread .... http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/73460-dayz-anti-hax-a-very-simple-server-side-console-application-for-automatically-banning-hackers-in-dayz/ Also, there is a section for bans .... http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/18-ban-appeals/ Sounds like you need to either buy a new game, appeal, or not play on servers that are using the application. -
So much I could comment on here .... especially the "Oh, I guess everyone should just simply commit banditary or scavenger endlessly to get their hands on high-end gears then simply get killed." part ..... but I don't have the energy. Thanks for the smile though.

I don't find trade posts annoying ... but I do find them ironic. Survival sim where you can get whatever equipment you want or need by posting in a forum and then a quick server hop to pick it up. Then you bring the equipment back into another server where you now have an advantage over other survivors who are looking for gear in various loot spawns and, well, trying to survive. I find it ironic that a few minutes work can net you the same results as having to spend hours, if not days or weeks, to find the items you want. I don't consider that surviving, or even playing the mod in the spirit it was designed. I am not complaining about those who do, however, it is player behaviour that dictates the level of success the mod achieves, but I just have to smile to myself.

Make the AS50 the new starter gun + remove other sniper rifles
osirish replied to TheMachine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Introducing "The Swiss Army AS50" Model 40323 (patent pending) Equiped for all your survival needs. Built in hatchet, hunting knife, toolbox, matches, entrenching tool, watch, compass, GPS, fishing line and tackle. The stock also contains a custom built water bottle that refills itself by pointing at the sky and shooting clouds. (It can also be refilled with victim's tears on cloudless days!) It's incendiary rounds are not only capable of destroying animals, but it cooks the meat as it does! No more annoying woodpiles to gather. This amazing weapon can be rechambered for any ammunition, and if the worst comes to the worst, a miniature smelting tool is included, free of charge, to allow you to create your own. Don't have room in your backpack for an L85 AWS? The model 40323b comes with a side mounting rail that can easily allow even an inexperienced user to attach any spare assault rifle so that both weapons can be wielded at once! Tired of being axed from behind while sitting in a bush? The Swiss Army AS50 even comes with a sight mounted reverse angled mirror! Never again will anyone be free to "axe" you a question! The weapon also comes with a built in flotation device for those more aquatic minded players. Shooting the weapon while submersed has been tested to generate speeds of up to 16km an hour. The Swiss Army AS50, Model 40323, accept no substitutes. -
55 day old character. Killed by hacker.
osirish replied to Xianyu's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
feel your pain, after avoiding deaths from teleports and cheaters for 45 days, (bless Alt+F4), died a couple of days ago to a server hopper who logged in behind me as I had the front covered. Time to restart and reset the counter. -
Can admins see the location of vehicles?
osirish replied to BlksnshN's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Can admins see vehicle locations - no Can admins see player/tent locations - no Do bugs remove vehicles on server restarts - yes Can cheaters see vehicles - yes Can cheaters remove/teleport vehicles - yes Can admins remove/teleport vehicles - no Can admins download programs that will let them see vehicle locations - yes Do these tools work at the moment - no Do most admins use this tool - no Do server providers allow for these tools/files to be installed/edited on their servers - most don't, to my knowledge. -
I'm not playing regularly anymore. I haven't lost any love for the mod. I still watch youtube vids, livestreams, and visit the forums everyday, and log in on occasion, but there are a few things that have gotten to me. I died a few times to script kiddies. Then I changed and started alt+f4ing whenever there was a cheater spotted on the server, the moment I was teleported or thunderdomed, the moment a hacked vehicle was found on the server. My character got to over 45 days old with only one murder which was in self defence. I was eventually killed a few days ago, to a server hopper who logged in directly behind/on top of me while I was in a corner with only one approach, trying to guard a vehicle, while a friend was out looking for parts. Server hopping broke the game as much as the script kiddies did. I also witnessed a group of players, the same night, log in around vehicle spawns from another server, check what the vehicles needed, log back off to server hop, and reappear a few minutes later with the parts needed to repair them, they then took most of the vehicles and stored them off-map, this also broke the immersion for me. I'll be back. But definitely not as often as I was playing before. The experiment has already been a success as far as I'm concerned, and I'm looking forward to the standalone.

Why are so many 'Bronies' into DayZ?
osirish replied to Jony_RocketInMyPocket's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Rocket has said that he wants to add horses to DayZ ..... "horses" but no mention of "ponies" .... shit is gonna hit the fan. -
Wonders if OP is the same "Dinmetal" registered on a dodgy russian cheat site ...... or just an unfortunate coincidence?

The thing that makes me enjoy watching DayZ on livestream, or youtube, is the thought process that is going on at the time. Recorded afterwards isn't as compelling for me as a viewer, but chat while you are playing and thinking aloud is much more interesting. It is what differenciates you from other vids and lets the audience get to know you a little. Should I move position, do I take the risk, A+B happened, so should I do C or maybe even D? Do I kill them, do I let them live, do I stalk them to see what they are up to or where they might lead me, do I initiate contact and help them? Learning from mistakes, learning what works and what doesn't work, is much more interesting than "I was walking along and this happened." Also, kill montages and sniper montages are for the CoD crowd. Not interested unless it is a season wrapper. Showing off the DayZ as DayZ and not just another generic fps or shooter is where it's at. The OP asked for ideas .... here are some I haven't seen yet ... explore the myths of whether or not Green Mountain is bad luck at night, or drinking a mountain dew will usually get you killed soon after. :) Visit and explore the nine most dangerous places in Chernarus with one life and see if you survive to the end! Balota -> Cherno -> Elektro -> Green Mountain -> Berezino -> NE Airfield -> Devil's Castle -> Stary -> NW airfield. Set a goal at the start of a video and let the audience witness you succeed or fail. Surprise us!

Totally fed up with DayZ two days after buying
osirish replied to RobertBob's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
And now, RobertBob, judging from most of the replies you have received, you can see the huge immaturity factor that the mod's success has dragged in. CoD kiddies and keyboard warriors mainly. To answer you, yes, it sucks. The maturity level of the people posting negative comments is the same as the maturity level of the cheaters who are ruining your experience. My advice to a new player. You bought Arma 2 (A good game in it's own right), not DayZ. There are problems, and there are bugs, and there are cheaters, so many cheaters. There are glitchers, and item dupers, and players who will try anything underhanded to try and kill you. They will claim to be friendly, they will log off if you shoot back, they will switch servers to move behind you and then log back on. Don't take it personally. Don't get attached to your gear. Don't get upset at the time you have "wasted." Live the experiences that can happen, enjoy the potential of the alpha, and look forward to the stand-alone version that will be out later this year. Edit. Ah, just spotted your new post. I apologise for not recognising another little script kiddie. Not get enough attention at home, or do you just cheat in video games because your life sucks that much? -
Players unhappy with cheaters, but are happy to use hacked in weapons, even when they know they are hacked in = part of the problem, not the solution. If a noob loots you and finds that weapon, they are more inclined to cheat because "everyone else is cheating."

Hackers, seriously, whats the fucking point?
osirish replied to darklynx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
You are extremely lucky, or rarely play on servers with more than 10 people on them. Join a full server and start your stopwatch. -
If barbed wire had a function beyond griefing players, it would be fine, but as it stands now, it is an anti-player device, not an anti-zombie device. Like others are saying, a better solution would be reduce players to a slow walk moving through it. Maybe even take a couple of hundred blood damage with the chance of causing bleeding condition.

Hackers, seriously, whats the fucking point?
osirish replied to darklynx's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
anonymity = douchebags, no matter how you look at it. anonymity just gives more power to the script kiddies. "XXX was killed by XXX" messages, despite removing realism and immersion, really need to be re-added. They were removed for these reasons, and yes, as far as realism and immersion, it was a success, but the current state of the mod is alpha, it won't hurt to put it back. Remove it in the stand-alone, put it back into the mod until the game is released please. -
Killed by a Server Hopper =/ How can rocket fix this?
osirish replied to Jackftw's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Preventing people from leaving a server quickly is removing the only defence players have against script kiddies. In the stand-alone version, maybe something could be implemented if the skiddies aren't as common. Preventing people from joining another server in the same position as they left is really the only way to tackle the problem as the mod currently stands. It is not perfect but if it had been like this from the start, people wouldn't be complaining. Create more spawn points along the coast, all the way up to Berezino, and the chances of being sniped on the coast would fall.
