Do you consider the mod playable any more?
osirish replied to oshi7's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Private servers are the only safe haven anymore. Passworded and requiring registration on the owner's website to get access even better. Even so, I've seen script kiddies on private servers too. They go so far as to register, wait a couple of days to get access, and then cheat there too. I believe that private servers can do a rollback, if they are quick enough, so everyone's progress and experience isn't completely lost. It is sad that players have had to resort to breaking Rocket's server rules in order to play his game the way he meant for it to be played. -
Today I have been legitimally global banned for cheating
osirish replied to Thadeum's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I don't think you are the one who read the post. "he started because of the the lack of content in the game" after 4 days ..... 4 DAYS! .... he didn't even bother trying to play the game and just started cheating as soon as he began. He gave up before even getting off the shoreline. Defending him is idiotic. He obviously started cheating because he wanted to, not for any other reason he claims in order to make himself look and feel better. I'm also surprised by the number of beans that the OP has received. "I started cheating after 4 days ... ahm ... because of lack of content." ... "Here, have my beans." My main fear is that as the standalone is going to be using the VR2 engine with elements of the VR3 engine, we'll still be infested by script kiddies until the Devs manage to lock it down more. -

The fact that you suck at games and feel the need to cheat is not a revelation. I believe that most script kiddies lack the skill or the patience to actually become good at something and require instant gratification, as that's the way a lot of spoiled little kids are brought up like these days. Constant positive reinforcement and "participation awards" for losers have led kids to believe that the world owes them something. I've witnessed these kids cheat in every game I've ever played, because if they aren't the best, everyone else must be cheating. I was a private tutor to a kid once. A nice little 11 year old. He studied hard, had to be the best in his class, was doted on by his parents. He was fascinated that his "teacher" was into CS and played competitively. He started playing CS to impress me I believe. Within a week, I walked in on one of his gaming sessions and he was cheating, wallhack, aimbot, the works. He couldn't understand what he was doing was wrong. Everyone else was better than him, so they "must" have been cheating. He just couldn't understand that there was something he sucked at. Every cheater that I encounter always brings me back to that little kid. Normal people don't cheat. If they get bored with a game, or don't like a game, they stop playing it. Cheating, regardless of your age, shows a high level of immaturity. Go find another hobby, because if you suck at video games and/or don't want to put in the time to get good at them, you are no better than a little 11 year old who believes the world revolves around him. -
You play to much dayZ when... (REAL stories please!)
osirish replied to ToasterDiagramm's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Playing BF3 and automatically hit "z" whenever I hear "enemy vehicle spotted" over the comms. Also constantly hitting ALT to look behind me when I'm running in multiple games. -
Is this admin abuse, and can anything be done about it?
osirish replied to Sanctorious's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Rocket's plans on server hopping - "The main server logs when you login and logout. If it detects you doing this too many times in a short space, it will warn you when you login. If it continues to detect this, then it will punish you by killing your character." Rocket's views on alt+f4ing/disconnecting to avoid death - "I don't know why, but people are assuming that I think this is part of the game. It's not. I posted in a thread that was talking about that, that META-GAMING is explicitly allowed. I.e. infiltrating teamspeak servers and groups etc..." Rockets views on server hoppers - "I have a well designed and tested mechanic for preventing server hopping. It's quite simple and very effective. However, it is disabled currently as it places slight strain on master server and we're currently removing that as much as possible." Why Rocket hasn't fixed server hopping yet - "Tartantyco raised the valid issues around server-hopping. They're accepted issues. They're not super high priority because the priority at the moment is things like people not getting into the server and direct chat and other very serious bugs. Once these are fixed, this kind of thing will be explored." You might want to read the "Rocket Said ...." sticky before pretending to know what the mod's creator has decided as "ok" and "being a douche." -
Satchel charges require 2 slots. Tents have 50 slots. Something fishy here.

US330 (Hosted by Rebel Regiment - originally NY22) will be closing down at the end of the month. Rather than the server just disappearing, we are giving advance notice so that if you call the server home, you will be able to relocate to a new one. Apologies for any disruption. We enjoyed our time and most of the experiences on the server and thanks go out to most involved. Thanks for your participation. We have not abandoned the mod, and have been involved in the creation of two new servers since the decision to shut down US330, but the constant script kiddie attacks after false accusations of admin abuse on Reddit, and here on the DayZ forums, by players who have since been proven to be cheating and/or confused admin powers with cheaters, have meant that the time it takes to manage and admin the US330 server is not worth the financial outlay. I am not the server owner or the head admin. Our thanks go out to [RR] Sp4ceman for originally providing the server and your efforts to make it a great place to play. Thanks also go out to the Regs who made our adventures in Chernarus more enjoyable. See you at the NWA.

Wow. I can't believe this shit.

Why are you even playing this mod when you have missed the entire point of the game? -
Free Gear. At least 3 Vehicles, Enjoy.
osirish replied to Harette's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
"Most" Admins DO NOT use their positions for self benefit. Compared to the number of servers in circulation and the number of admin abuse threads, very few do. A lot of admin abuse threads are also incorrect and falsely accuse admins of abuse when the problem is a known bug, they have no idea what they are talking about, they have been kicked/banned with evidence and are butthurt, they are noobs but don't know it and confuse script kiddies with admins. How many times has your "gameplay" been ruined by a script kiddie, alt+f4ggot, and/or ghoster compared to admins? If you come across an abusive admin, report them, and then find another server to play on. Sucks, but that is life. -
Thanks OP, if I had known that this was an acceptable and community supported method of game play, I wouldn't have lost my 45 day old character in a 2v3 gunfight when I stumbled across their ural in the forest. If only I'd logged out when the first shots were fired and my mate was killed ..... wow ... I feel so dumb now. :(

Bandit skin = kos See another survivor, watch them to determine if they are a threat or not. Defending gear, camp, vehicles = kos Kill because they have better gear .... never (unless they are bandit)
-
Nope ... you are looking at it wrong and seperating gameworld from reality. All these negative posts are just forum KOS on a bandit .... just like in the game. What does annoy me though ... is that when I shoot a bandit, it still gives me negative humanity, I would have thought killing bandits was a positive thing. The other thing that annoys me about a bandit skin, is that I don't know if the bandit I'm shooting has -5000 humanity or -75000 humanity. It is pretty easy to get to -5000 if you have been in a firefight defending a vehicle or something.

Ban under 18s and third party programs from the standalone
osirish replied to RiggsUK's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
As an older lemon myself, I think the OP raises some decent points, even though he/she/it is an obvious troll. The standalone could have built in VOIP that autokicks anyone with a voice in the high decibels. The standalone could be designed around a complete operating system that removes the need to have Windows etc. installed. DayZ could then be shipped with all new pcs and other programs would have to pay Rocket and BIS royalties in order to be used. The standalone should only be puchasable with cans of beans, 25 bucks worth of canned beans is a lot of beans. Supermarkets could be instructed not to sell cans of beans to under 18s. The standalone should include colorblind options and autoassist aiming for us old codgers that need it. (ironic that only cheaters and the kiddies on consoles get aim assist and/or texture hacks when it should be used to help us old folks) No one should be allowed to purchase DayZ without providing Rocket with proof of their personal identification, age, and drivers licence. Kids and youngsters should not be allowed to play DayZ because there are no kiddie/teen models. The reason there are no kids in DayZ is that all of us old codgers, (the ones who could afford medication, guns, vehicles etc.) fed them all to the zombies in the early days in order to provide us with a greater chance of gathering the dwindling supplies. Now that they are disappearing, we are starting to turn on each other. -
One or two people have a vehicle ... that's ok? but a clan of 10+ people have 4 or 5 vehicles ... that's hoarding? I don't see your logic. Finding vehicles isn't hard. Keeping them, is. The more vehicles you have, the harder it is to hide them and the easier it is to find them. I believe there are 22 vehicles on every official server. It's not that hard to find at least one, assuming that the people who have them aren't storing them off map.

Rents from Host Altitude http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/55333-host-altitude-anyone-elses-cpanel-access-down/ Most of his posts are complaints or rants. (Ilinks too many to bother listing.) Is a hypocrite .... definitely not a troll. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/49646-banned-for-combat-logging/page__st__80
-
Normally, I'd congratulate the OP on his trolling for a post like this, but not 100% certain the OP is a troll on this one. Regardless of whether or not you are a troll, congratulations are in order for giving abusive admins another tool in their arsenal and making life harder for decent admins.

Average Life Expectancy board should also have an Average ALT+F4s per Life counter.

fun and frolics in Chernarus?
-
Ah ok ... sorry for the misunderstanding. You would probably get a stronger response, and less confusion, if you changed the topic title ... from "I am a Manhunter" to .... "Young/Older male/female seeking male, for fun and frolics in Chernarus."
-
I find the topic of this thread, "I am the manhunter", extremely sexist to the ladies (and men) out there, who are using female characters?

If I see an unarmed player, I don't let them know I'm there. If an unarmed player sees and approaches me, I give them a 10 second countdown over direct chat to turn around and go back the way they came. Admittedly the second scenario has only happened twice because I don't hang around areas where there are unarmed players. If an unarmed player ignores my warning and continues to approach me, I shoot them. Unarmed does not mean helpless. Unarmed players are dangerous. Unarmed players may have an axe on their toolbelt.* Unarmed players may have a gun in their backpack. Unarmed players have tried to get behind me to loot my backpack for a weapon or supplies.* Unarmed players may be carrying a grenade. Unarmed players may be distracting you while a mate slips around behind you.* Unarmed players may find a weapon near your location and use it on you.* Unarmed players that are given a weapon, just to be nice, may use it against you. * has happened to me. Every unarmed player can be as nice and as helpless as Bambi, but most will turn on you in a second if the opportunity arises. At least the bandit skin reintroduction makes things a little easier. If I see an unarmed player with a bandit skin, there is no warning, I'll kill on sight, unarmed or not. If you have friends and play as a group, there is always someone that needs bandaging or bloodbags to give you back your humanity.

Shame you didn't "study body" to get the name and then let the server admin know.
-
You forgot to mention the hours upon hours of not playing and scrolling through logs trying to find the little turds teleporting and thunderdoming players. You also forgot to mention the butthurt teenagers that lose a vehicle and then blame the admins, and who then post that the server admins are cheating on 4chan and Reddit, causing the server to receive ddos attacks and floods of cheaters "looking for revenge." Then there are the players who do receive bans posting locations of all the camps and vehicles on the server, regardless of who owned them or not, just to get revenge against the admins. Bloody difficult to admin a server and a thankless task at that. Looking forward to the standalone.

How do so many ppl have snipers and top guns?
osirish replied to TheMove's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Kill a guy, who is carrying an AS50, with an axe, and you don't leave the AS50 behind. Someone kills you, they take the AS50 too. The better weapons will be looted and kept, and so on. Even without duping and without cheaters scripting them in, the better weapons will be looted from bodies and the numbers will grow. A better standard of judging the amount of duping that is going on is ghillie suits. They can't be looted from bodies like the weapons can, yet there seems to be almost as many of them as there are AS50s. I believe that another indication of the inflated weapon economy is the fact that I am far more likely to find/loot and AS50 or an M4 SD, than I am to find/loot antibiotics, mountain dew etc. I believe the drop rates are fine, it is the duping that needs to be fixed, and then you will see the number of high level weapons fall. -
A possible fix for the vehicle problem?
osirish replied to Xeva's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
7 day despawn is fine .... people keeping vehicles 20km out in the offmap area (fixed), hackers teleporting all vehicles into the ocean (fixed) ... after 7 days. Anything less than that is rubbish. 6hr, 24hr despawns ... silly idea. If I don't log on every six hours, or at least once a day, you want my atv to disappear so someone else can use it? If you want it, find the tree it is hidden in. Same goes for every other vehicle. Forcing vehicles to despawn so others can use them instead of getting up off their arses and going to find them is just plain dumb. Vehicles belong to the people who found them, repaired them, and hid them. They are just as much that persons property as their weapons, their food, and their med supplies, and like any other personal equipment, can be looted, lost, destroyed, or bugged out. Should your AS50 disappear just because you haven't logged in or used it in the last 6-24 hours? Vehicles are even more at risk than your own personal gear because they stay in-game even when you don't. Other suggestions such as making vehicle parts rare or jerry cans very rare, I can see the point, but these things would not be rare in a post-apocalyptic world, so I prefer rarity of fuel .... there are too many fuel points on the map and a lot of the aren't marked on the loot maps either. Reducing these and/or maybe randomising which ones have fuel would be a good start. Also, reducing the supply so that the amount of fuel at each of the tanks is limited. Maybe 10 jerrycans from one, 5 from another, 30 from another, would be a way of forcing people to use/risk the vehicles in their possession.
