    i believe you do need to download it through steam but i may be wrong but thats the only way i know how to run the game sorry

    You have to run the game through steam and then right click Arma 2 OA and go to properties and add -name=PROFILE to the -mod@DayZ in launch options and where PROFILE is add your steam profile name. Try adding the games to Steam to be able to do this all too Hope this helped!
