How to survive without major towns?
FrankFisher replied to Solomon36's topic in New Player Discussion
Get a DayZ map, go inland and look for a small town that has good loot spawns. Barns, residential, stores, deer stands and military. Only go for military loot either if you want good weapons or you simply want to get killed. -
Such a friendly guy, those survivors we're probably pretty happy.

General Survivor/Bandit Tips for Beginners
FrankFisher replied to prominentalex's topic in New Player Discussion
Agreed. -
That happened to me once, depends if the server is syncing with the HIVE database (the place where DayZ grabs your character) just join other servers until you load your 'actual' character.

@ Beginners..no gun start is not impossible
FrankFisher replied to Hetstaine's topic in New Player Discussion
It's easy peeeeessy to get guns in this game, noob or experienced player -
You can't trust 80% of random people, there a few out there who actually are, it sucks you have no friends who play PC, its up to you, trial and error with adding people or joining a group/clan head to the Survivor HQ: http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/14-survivor-hq/

Tips on Not Getting Shot on Sight
FrankFisher replied to Taggert1313's topic in New Player Discussion
It all really depends on the person, some will shoot some won't, tips won't really help. -
Does Day/Night not read correctly on servers?
FrankFisher replied to spoonfoy's topic in New Player Discussion
I have also noticed that when playing, I guess the admins can decide the time they want it ? -
Nah, only a moderator can delete.
-
Yep I'm sorry to say that you won't be able to get your gear back, just going to need a fresh start, hackers piss everyone off don't worry

Point of topic: I love this mod because of these moments One day I had 934 blood and kept passing out, some guy approached me and asked 'friendly?' I replied friendly, I'm thinking wow someone that actually doesn't shoot on site. I asked him for a blood bag but he friendly replied no sorry and ran off. Another time I walked into a fire station some guy was in there and shot me, he then said 'sorry you came out of nowhere' and then he kindly bandaged me. Ahhhh.... I love DayZ

It's ok if your willing to spend $29.99 on steam, get it, that way you can get updated patches for both games and enjoy the game legit.

got my first taste of the L85A2 thermal scope today...
FrankFisher replied to WisdomSnork's topic in New Player Discussion
Holy crap, thats a nice find, I'm guessing you found it in a heli crash site -
I can't give you any sites, but how close another player can hear you really depends on what sound device their using. If its a headset or headphones of some kind, they will have a advantage over speakers, my guess while crouching 10-20 metres and running anywhere above 20. Crawling in grass or on tarmac would only be a couple of metres.
-
Yeah it really does take luck to find them, keep searching residential houses and grocery stores, you will be bound to find one.
-
Check out those maps and for extra tips, check out barns for Winchesters, shotguns and snipers, grocery stores for food, drinks and other misc equipment. Military loot has all the high-class weapons but be careful there is alot of activity there.

Winchester or AKM --- Preferred weapon
FrankFisher replied to Blackbook's topic in New Player Discussion
<3 Winchester, I love it, best weapon for killing zombies but not so good for taking out bandits/survivors, but its possible if you have the wits about you. The AKM is more for PVP so you can spray the target in full auto but I would go with winchester.
